HORRIBLE! JUST HORRIBLE. I caution everyone to stay away from this restaurant based off of the terrible experience i had here! My boyfriend and I were super excited to try this place because of its high ratings and seemingly classy ambiance, but now we wish we had never went. First, this "restaurant" is more like a pub more than anything and the polished photos on yelp & google don't accurately display the dingy environment very well. We ended up sitting at the bar because the other tables surrounding the bar area were either high top tables or small corner tables that didn't look too welcoming. The bartender took a while to acknowledge our presence and when he did, he just dropped menus and walked away. That's exactly what you should NOT do as a server or bartender to greet your guests. My boyfriend ordered a gin and tonic to which the bartender asked "do you want tonic with that?". Interesting question to ask someone who ordered a GIN and TONIC. Yet, even after he asked for tonic water, he gave him soda water that had a tap-water-like bitter aftertaste. Also, the bartender did such a heavy pour on the gin that we had to ask for some limes to try to balance out the drink. He obviously didn't care about the quality of the drink at all. When we finally got his attention again we ordered the brussel sprouts and fried oysters...regrettably. After about 10 minutes our apps came out and we hungrily dug in. The brussels were so over cooked that they had turned to mush. They were just sad and lacked seasoning. Still, the oysters managed to make the brussels taste like a five star dish. These fried oysters were such an abomination. Rather than a crispy exterior as promised, the breadcrumb coating was bland and bitter with a sandlike texture. When biting into it, the gritty coating crumbles off and the burst of salty ocean juice hits your tongue followed by a slime ball of oyster meat. It was so disgusting both in taste and texture that i almost threw up. We had put in our entree order but after eating those condemned oysters we called the bartender over to cancel it. He didn't ask why nor did he seem to care about us cancelling our meal. He didn't even ask about the apps or address the fact that we had both turned green after eating. We asked for the bill. He dropped it in front of us and walked away. A whopping $40 for a drink and two ghastly appetizers. Not to mention the ambiance is so depressing. Don't go here. read more

Made a reservation same day on a weekday for 3 and was able to get a resy. The staff was so helpful and were able to switch our table right away b/c my aunt had knee surgery and needed a booth. Our waiter Ray was the best! Make sure to check out their whiskey room and they have an awesome bar in the back as well. We had the cornbread medallions for an appetizer and they are to die for and I was able to switch my burger patty for a vegetarian patty (beyond patty but they have a mushroom quinoa option as well). Drinks 10/10, the bosslady cocktail is delicious and sweet. food was 9/10 - their entrees dont come with a side but their sides on the menu look delicious ambiance/staff is 10/10. Good ole Bosscat! I frequented Bosscat all the time pre-Covid and also during Covid. Bosscat has an awesome extensive selection of whiskey, cocktails, beer, and food! Their brunch is awesome (totally IG worthy) and they also have bottomless mimosas! They have always been accommodating when I call to reserve a table for large parties. Their servers are all friendly, make great recommendations, and the ambiance is spot on! They have expanded their outdoor seating area to the parking lot and all the tables are socially distanced. They have a large parking lot in front - but definitely Uber/Lyft if you plan on having a whiskey or two. read more

I really wanted to like this place after seeing all the great reviews but to be honest I was disappointed. I'll start with the positives. The food was good and the ambience was great. This place has great vibes with its indoor/outdoor feel. The decor is awesome and make me feel very country chic. The hush puppies were great with the sauce. Easily my favorite part of the meal. The Pork Belly Poutine was drenched with gravy so the fries were soggy but everything still tasted good. Note:The chicken sandwich was pretty delicious. I would definitely order that again! What we really appreciated was all the staff seemed to work together to make sure all the guests were taken care of. We had our drinks refilled by multiple servers that seemed always happy to help. Wait time was not so good. Our waitress had to keep apologizing for the wait time. It took us an hour and a half from start to finish for 2 appetizers and one sandwich. We watched other guests come and go while we were stuck in food waiting limbo. When our chicken sandwich finally came an hour after we ordered it, it was barely even warm. My boyfriend and I also watched one of the managers bark orders angrily at one of the employees. It must have been an off night for them based on the other reviews. Overall this place had a great ambience with pretty good food. If we go back it definitely won't be on a night they are running a special. read more

My husband and I came here to check out the new location. They recently opened this location In Irvine and closed the one in Costa Mesa. We unfortunately never made it to the Costa Mesa location. So I won't be comparing it. We arrived during the Happy Hour time around 3:30pm. The bar was full so we got seated at a table. It wasn't to busy yet as it was still early in the afternoon. I ordered a Moscow mule and my husband ordered a Kentucky Orange blossom. Both drinks were good. For food we ordered the pork tacos, short rib grilled cheese and some of the Bosscat potatoes fries, and I couldn't leave without trying the butter burger. We have already had the grilled cheese and potatoes before this time we were trying the butter burger and tacos for the first time. For me the tacos were good but I think they need a little kick of spice. The butter burger let me just say was amazing!!!!! So juicy and delicious and buttery . I don't think I have had a burger like that before. I will definitely be having that more often. The restaurant is beautifully done and has lots of seating options. We love how even after you leave the restaurant you can sit and lounge outside because there is are some nice chairs and a fire pit right as you walk out. There is a massive TV screen outside also. You also don't have to deal with parking as you can park in a parking structure and they validate. We had a great time. We would definitely come back again. read more

Location is nice and the wait staff were pleasant. Some of the food was a little lackluster. We started with the appetizer Ahi Wraps at the recommendation of our server. We could not taste the ahi at all as the sauce overpowered any other flavors - so that's a thumbs down for me. Our salad - Avocado Farm chop was very good. I had the Carolina Barbecue Salmon as my main course which was delicious, but the seasonal succotash that acxompanied it was 90% edamame and cut corn with a couple of zucchini slices and tiny potatoes - not a very inspired medley. My daughter had the beef short ribs which were delicious once you scraped some of the sauce off (again, overdressed considering the exceptional meat). As it was my daughter's birthday, they brought out a complimentary dessert - nothing from the menu - it was a waffle with chocolate sauce, a scoop of ice cream and sprinkles. It tasted like something from Chuck E. Cheese - qualifying it as one of the strangest desserts I've ever been served at an "upscale" restaurant. Needless to say 2 bites were all we could muster. My better half took me here to celebrate my birthday. I had a wonderful time here. We were quickly seated. I decided on trying their 12 Hour Beef Short Rib ($30) which is their braised short rib, black pepper sauce, scalloped potatoes, and their seasonal greens. It was delicious and it was like the meat melted in your mouth. Perfect flavor! My better half had the Bosscat Burger ($15) and it came with in-house ground beef patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, housemade pickles, and their comeback sauce. The burger was juicy and delicious as well. For dessert we shared Red Velvet Churros ($10) which are cooked fresh to order. They were good and tasted freshly made. I couldn't miss their amazing whiskey that I told the waiter to surprise me with. So I'm not too sure on the name of it. read more

Lots of cheese, jalapeños, chorizo and that sunny side egg is perfection! Maui meatloaf loco loco with egg and rice is rich, juicy and delicious. Added avocado bc you know everything tastes better w/ that guac. Shrimp n grits was beautiful and tasted just like the ones we had at New Orleans! Flapjack bananas and almond protein was GLUTEN FREE but I couldn't tell it was soft and moist and had little bits of nuts and I think raisin. Chicken sausage was flavorful and it came with SUGAR FREE SYRUP which I usually don't like but here I couldn't taste the difference! Really good. This place is a whiskey bar with over 300 whiskey if I wasn't here for work I would've gotten drunk lol. I'll be back again to get them shots! Just went here last night with a party of 19 people for my friends birthday. I enjoyed it but can't easily give out those 5-star reviews to any restaurant that's decent. And that's what it was, decent. It's a nice place to have dinner or to celebrate. The service was very nice who bought out a shot with a candle on the house. The food was surprisingly very tiny. But it all looked very delicious. To my Carolina Barbecue Salmon: Barbecue and salmon is a very odd pairing. The salmon itself could've been grilled better. The outside was not crispy enough. The skin is usually very crispy when you do salmon but why did they serve my salmon upside down? The skin was on the bottom which soaked up all the sauce. It made it very soggy. Parking- theres a parking area in the parking garage specific for the restaurants. Once you park just head on down. We made reservations before coming and were seated as soon as we got there. Had the shrimp with grits, they were good, the shrimp went really well with the sauce. The sauce was delicious and not spicy in my opinion, just very flavorful. I will say, the grits with the sauce alone were not that great. With the shrimp, it was excellent. Very nice ambiance and definitely a great place to go if you're into drinking! The boss cat drink with the rosemary spring is delicious and beautiful! The appetizers were very good. But the Mac and cheese. That has to be the best Mac and cheese I have ever had in my entire life. I have Mac and cheese frequently too. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the quinoa mushroom veggie burger was a disappointment. The patty was greasy. It was also extremely mushroomy. I love a homemade veggie burger but this patty was like a blended mushroom that was fried in disc form. I couldn't taste the quinoa or anything besides the mushroom and it has a weird texture. I hope Bosscat will consider experimenting with their patty recipe. Regardless, I'll be back and just order Mac and cheese and that drink. That was so so good. read more

Twice, we went for celebrations for people, for special occasions. I didn't get photos of the numerous starters as they all got passed around and picked apart before they got to me. Still, I remember what they all were: Cornbread Madeleines: These were my favorite thing. The cornbread was sweet and had a lovely texture. The huckleberry sweet cream butter was awesome. I wish I had ordered two more of these as my main entree. Pork Belly Poutine: Pretty tasty! The pork belly was tender and flavorful. I liked the cheese curds a lot! Pulled Pork Hush Puppies: These were alright... The Carolina BBQ mustard was a bit overpowering. Gulf Shrimp and Grits: This was my main course. I asked the server a few times before I ordered it if the Creole Spices made this dish a spicy one, and made it really clear that I was very weak when it came to spicy food, and that I would order something else if it was indeed spicy. She assured me that it was flavorful and but not too spicy at all. I got it, and it was completely inedible to me. This dish was spicier than any dish I've ever tasted. It was ages before our server came back, and I had eaten around all the red bits. By the time she finally returned, I was full on the bits of appetizers I could find. As disappointed as I was with this dish, and the disappearance of our server for a good chunk of time, I really did like the appetizers, hence the extra stars. Word of warning: If you can't tolerate spicy food well, stay away from the gulf shrimp and grits!! And don't believe any server that tells you it's mild!! read more

Did it for the 'gram! While visiting Cali of course I depended on Yelp to point me in the direction of the hottest food spots and Bosscat popped up as popular and had great reviews. They definitely exceeded our expectations when it came to the favors and vibe but obviously we're greedy because the portion wasn't enough for us. I could have eaten two orders of the fruity pebbles French toast( Instagram Worthy plate) but if it came with eggs or a side maybe that would have helped. I guess you can say it's a la carte. Bae ordered an omelet that was DELICIOUS but it was just an omelet, a little disappointing no potatoes or anything came alongside it. For the price we expected a little more but hey everything in Cali is expensive. Nonetheless the food was amazing and the service was impeccable. The vibes were like no other and it's very spacious inside so even though it was a full house it wasn't cramped. Had to send our bacon back because we like it crispy but they were on top of it and it came back to the table exactly like we love it. I see why this place gets great reviews and why the wait time can build up. Nice decor with great service and delicious food. Ordered the chips and dip for an appetizer. Chips are freshly made which were amazing that went great with the dip! We also ordered the bosscat burger and ordered it chef style. Delicious !! So much flavor it was amazing, I would recommend it! The staff are very welcoming and super friendly. They have all have great attitudes which I loved. Now the food... let me tell you... OUTSTANDING! I brought my sister here for her birthday with a small group of family & we all had a taste of each other's dishes. Everything tasted amazing!! Brussel sprouts with bacon, avocado toast, and tomato soup with grilled cheese for the family and I got the pork chop sandwich. Everything was over the top amazing.
