We split the country fried steak with scrambled eggs and the Bosscat fries. The country fried steak was a little tough at first, but our server was nice enough to bring it back and gave us a new one that was much softer. As for the Bosscat fries, it was nice and salty.....BUT it was missing the crunch and extra fry that I'm used to having from the Irvine location. Rad vibes. It was a busy Friday night so started at the bar before I got seated. I got a shot of green chartreuse and a custom cocktail with Tony (we bonded over our shared name) before getting seated. Absolutely lovely bartender and we waxed on in length about his past as a D1 athlete in the minor leagues. Already, I felt like I was at home. Skyler was my server and he was absolutely impeccable, his recommendations and sharp attention made my night phenomenal. He was classy and sassy. I got the steak with a side of mac n cheese topped with an egg and short rib and I was in heaven. Skyler also randomly gave me a cut course in economics which I found hilarious. Drank some 130 proof bourbon, a mezcal new york sour, an exquisite smoked old fashioned, and finished off with a fernet/Oktoberfest boilermaker. Paired with a fried apple pie and my goodness, I left Bosscat a happy boy. Great whiskey, amazing food, and even better people. Don't sleep on this. read more

Checked out this place during their happy hour and was very impressed by the quality of the food & service. The portions were decent for happy hour and the drinks were good. The house wine is a Cabernet which is pretty standard. The whisky sour was made well (+$3 for egg whites) on top of happy hour pricing. We dined here this past Saturday for our anniversary dinner. We picked it because they have a fun menu with Southern cuisine influences (a modern twost on it) and they also have a big outdoor seating area. We got in around 4,30 om (early dinner since we had to go back to LA) and we asked to be seated outside. The host was pretty rude, one of the rudest we ever dealt with. There were empty tables near the street, but under reservation so she told us we could stay there till certain time. No thanks! She had an attitude, ready to fight. Guess what, those people didn't show up while we were there, so great job dear host! We finally settle on a table at their outdoor patio, they do have heaters, not a fan of their TV-s. Luckily they didn't have sound on. Our server, Francisco was very nice. We got Amber Ale-s on tap, the poutine and the hush puppies. The poutine was delicious with pork belly, wedge potatoes, cheese curds, gravy and an okra on top! Shareable! My husband asked for their ketchup with chow-chow (a family memory) and got charged an extra $5o cents. Oh well, nothing from the house here. Ketchup just decent, nothing special. The hush puppies were made with pulled pork and were pretty good, I could have used more flavor. The BBQ sauce helped (Carolina style w. mustard), spicy and good. We also shared their side of Mac and Cheese, done right, cheesy and goey. Their dessert list wasn't tempting. Clean restroom, huge space inside the restaurant, they do a lot of bourbon inspired cocktails. Prices- high. Fun place and food, decent service, cool decor, terrible hostess. My wife and I came Sunday before Halloween around brunch time, about 12 pm. The place looked sparsely seated with couples and a couple of groups. I would say 25% capacity, including inside and outside seating. As we went up to the hostess, we were told it would be a 5-10 min wait (which is fine). However, as we sat it seemed like other walk-ins had been getting seated right away. My wife, perturbed, wondered what was going on. I stated she they probably had reservations, so thought nothing of it. After about 20-25 mm in of waiting and watching other walk-ins get seated I was a bit perturbed myself. My wife at this point, 7 months pregnant and VERY hungry finally went up to the front and asked when we were going to get seated because we've been watching others getting seated for the past 25 min while the restaurant was only 25% full. Long story short we got seated, immediately without explanation. I've been to the Irvine/Newport Beach location a couple of times and this has never happened. Like I've stated earlier, the place is fairly big with inside and outside dining, a full bar, and tv's galore! I'm sure it's a lively place on the weekends! The food wasn't half bad either. But the star's here are the Beignets and the drinks for me. It has enough room for strollers and lots of potential. As I entered the restaurant I was greeted by a friendly hostess who seated my party. The interior of the restaurant had a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The server was quick to greet our table and answered questions we had. Michelle was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave suggestions for our order. I recently visited Bosscat for a sunday catch-up brunch with friends. I was amazed that they could accommodate a party as big as ours for a last-minute reservation (party of 10). The food was great, and the portions definitely make it an environment where sharing is welcomed to get a taste of everything they have to offer. I ended up ordering their county fried steak and the breading did not disappoint (as it usually does when I order this at other establishments). Their short stack of pancakes were fluffy and not overwhelming in its structure, the butter and syrup were soaked up appropriately. Down in LA for a short work trip. Searched for places with reservations that could accommodate just 3 people within a short period of time. Came across this restaurant and I 100% judged a book by its cover. The food photos looked absolutely amazing (not even knowing what some of them were). Our waitress Megan was the best, and gave us great recommendations. Had the nachos and added short ribs...OMG The happy hour short rib grilled cheese was delicious (add the fried pickles to the grilled cheese ) The Brussels Sprouts and the Sweet Papas Braves hit the spot too! Nothing like a boozy Sunday brunch after a long weekend of partying at Dreamstate to get you up-and-running again, right? My wife, sister, and I decided to hit up Bosscat since it was closer, so I wasn't really expecting a whole lot. Turns out Bosscat may just be my new go-to brunch spot. I ordered their Franzy's Breakfast Burrito (modified), my wife got an Avocado Farm Chop Salad, and my sister ordered the Flap Jacked (protein) Pancakes. All 3 of us got Bloody Mary's to wash it all down with. Firstly, all of our food was delicious. Secondly, they were so accommodating to my diet, which I know how much BOH hates, so I really try not to do it often. I just omitted a couple of things, so I hope it wasn't asking for too much. And lastly, our waitress was super nice and attentive! Oh, and they make excellent Bloody Mary's too. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place, especially dining outside in the Orange Circle. It really makes for the ultimate typical brunch experience. Sorry, but sometimes you really just gotta embrace the basic in you, y'know? My husband and I ate here before a concert in Anaheim. We'd never been to Orange before and the downtown area was really cute and safe. I had the bbq salmon with succotash and he had the shrimp and grits. I tried his dish which was delicious, but very rich. Mine was good, but I would probably try something else next time. The service was really good though, we were greeted and sat in the bar quickly, probably by the manager. The bartender with blonde hair waited on us, I wish I had gotten her name, she was great. They have some mocktails which we liked, which is nice if you are looking for something fancy without the booze. Although it seems as though they have good cocktails, especially whiskey. read more

Bosscat Kitchen and Libations is a fantastic restaurant and bourbon bar that took over the classic Rods Liquor site near the Orange Circle. I have not yet been to their other location in Irvine but the Orange location is in a great spot with loads of foot traffic and is always quite busy near the hub of this bustling area. I have been here 4 times to this point and the food is always amazing, the drinks are strong and the service is exceptionally good (special shout out to Christian who was by far our favorite server to this point). During each of my first three visits I went with the Pork Tenderloin as my dish and it truly was amazing. I was looking forward to having this again but saw they recently changed this slightly to a center cut pork chop and changed up the sauce which was not what I was looking for at the time. I don't often deviate from my favorites but my wife and other friends have all raved about the 12 hour short rib and I opted to give it a try and I am glad I did. The dish was amazing and comes resting atop scalloped potatoes, some onion strings and seasonal green veggies. For my my most recent visit I went with the Kentucky Orange Blossom to drink and it was strong and excellently made. I have also had the BC Sweet Tea amongst others and each cocktail is fantastic and made with top notch ingredients. Drinks range from $12-17 and the options are great with plenty of options. The desserts here are also very good and do change often. We have had a strawberry butter cake, the banana pudding and most recently the fried apple topped with vanilla iced cream. All have been excellent and make the perfect compliment to end a great evening. They can be a bit pricey but this makes a great choice for that special night out. I haven't been to a Bosscat in a while but I had a request from family to meet for brunch and it was a perfect opportunity to go to this newer location in the middle of downtown Orange. Ya know that impossible roundabout which is so annoying here in the States because there are so few and we are not used to driving them. Tip #1 avoid the roundabout if you can. There are plenty of free public parking lots and buildings within a short walking distance. Now on to the ambiance and the foodz... it feels like an upscale Lucille's, kinda cool western. We ordered all three of my favorite brunch meals: Loco Moco, Shrimp and Grits, and my all-time fave Country fried steak and eggs. The winner here: the Loco Moco. The gravy was delicious, the meat patties were charbroiled with white rice and the egg. Omg to die for. Second place: the shrimp and grits. Slightly spicy and full of flavor. Last place: the country fried steak. It wasn't fabulous but still good and they cooked my eggs perfectly as ordered. Medium. We ended the meal with the Fruity Pebbles French toast. That one was disappointing compared to the original. I blame it on the low quality bread. Our server was Hayley. She was on it. Periodic checks kept our coffees hot and iced water topped up. She was so attentive and so polite. It was that rainy weekend in Feb so the restaurant wasn't full and we sat and chatted for a couple of hours. So nice. We came here as a large-ish group during the international street fair, the bartenders were rude and complaining about any drinks modifications (ie switching alcohols) but we were attempting to be patient as we realized it was very busy. The man with the ponytail approached my brother in law and told him you are aware you have a large tab, which he replied yes and he said I just want to make sure you can cover it, and then proceeded to tell him he didn't think he could because he was Mexican. After we paid and were leaving and my brother in law still left a tip on our 400$ bill he apologized for his comment saying he was just overwhelmed. This was unacceptable behavior and despite the fact I have enjoyed the food and drinks in this place in the past we won't be returning. read more

Positives: perfect location for this type of restaurant in the traffic circle of orange and the decor is fantastic. Service was really good and my waitress came often to check in. The appetizer (ricotta and pretzel balls was unique, had a lot of flavor, and brought some more home with me. The mule with Tito's was also went well with my appetizer. Negative: Pork chop. They are not easy to cook. I get that. I've made dry ones before. It happens. But my chop was void of any juice. It was apparent immediately when I was cutting the meat and could see the dry meat. This place has great service and tasty food. We stopped in here at around 3pm to meet some friends for a late lunch. They were just getting ready to serve food after the break after brunch. The spicy chicken and cheese dip was very tasty. It wasn't too spicy. I feel like the potato chips didn't compliment it as well, thought it would have tasted better with tortilla chips. I visited Bosscat Kitchen & Libations for brunch this past weekend (on a Saturday at 1PM and it was such a delicious experience. I would give this restaurant 5 stars for the food, presentation, price point, and atmosphere. The Food: We ordered 3 dishes: The Monte Cristo Sandwich, Smokehouse Benedict, and a side of Uncle Nick's Potatoes. The Monte Cristo Sandwich is one of the newer items on the menu (per our waiter). The sandwich is so perfectly crispy and goes very well with the preserves that it came with. In addition, the side of tater tots was super crispy (just the way I like it). It was super interesting to try since I haven't eaten a Monte Cristo before. The Smokehouse Benedict was super good - I love that it was served on biscuits and the pulled pork was delicious. The eggs were poached to perfection. It's a good spin to a classic benedict. Uncle Nick's Potatoes are your typical home-style potatoes. I probably won't order this again due to the large amounts of food each main dish had. We had ordered it because we were afraid there wasn't going to be enough food. Our waiter wasn't kidding when he said it was a lot of food! The portions were big, and we were super full by the end of the meal. The Atmosphere: The restaurant is super ambient. It has a nice outdoor patio area which we ate in. The decorations in the restaurant are super unique. I loved how the alcohol was displayed in the bird cages. The Service: The service was impeccable! We had a reservation for 1 PM on a Saturday and were seated right away. The waiter and manager (I think?) constantly checked up on us to see how our food was. The manager had informed us that Monte Cristo was one of the newer additions to the menu and wanted our feedback on it. Parking: The only major downside was the parking. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Orange so make sure you have enough time to find parking. Most of the lots were full so we circled around the area for a while trying to find parking. Overall: Great food, atmosphere, and attentive service. I would definitely want to go again and try out their lunch/dinner menu. This place would be a great date night. read more

You have to park on the street which can be hard during busy hours. Interior is mixture of old gas station/liquor store vibe? You'll see two Mobilgas pumps in the middle by the tables, bird cages, and huge ice machine on the wall. They have good selection of beer and mixed drinks. Since we were beer drinkers we were going to pick from their rotating beers but server suggested us to try their cocktails. Cocktails came with cute flowers as decoration but it was little bit on sweet/fruity side for us. We ordered pig candy to share as appetizer and pork belly melted in our mouth and surprisingly the little raddish kimchi that came in the middle was pretty tasty. Steak was our main dish and we got a side of brussel sprouts to share as well. Brussel sprouts were not the brussel sprout I was expecting. It had very strong sweetness to it. I wouldn't expect sweetness from "Whisky Brussels" Sugar barrel steak was super soft and seasoned very well. Although we had to send out steak back once for being overcooked but they made it correctly the 2nd time. I usually don't like to complain about food but it was too overcooked when I ordered medium rare. Overall experience was good but if I had to pick between other competitors... I would definitely rethink before saying lets go here.
