We stayed at the Boston Harbor Hotel for the two nights surrounding our wedding (which took place there, as well). Our room - a 9th floor Deluxe Harbor View - was spacious, lovely and clean. Its separate sitting area, dressing space/closet and large bathroom made the room feel like a suite and very comfortable for two people preparing for a wedding. The view of the water/court house/airport was quite nice, especially at night with all the lights. The doors were a little thin, and we could sometimes hear people walking down the hall or using the elevator, but it wasn't a disruption for us. The bed and linens were comfortable and the bathroom amenities were nice. All of the staff at the hotel were extremely professional, and check-in and check-out were both a breeze. Room service was delivered promptly, and was some of the best I've ever experienced in a hotel. The food was hot and well-prepared, and it's brought on an actual table which you can roll to the window and eat at. Everything for the meal was thought-of and provided without needing to ask. The only gripe I had (and I'm not sure if this was the hotel's fault or American Express's fault) was that they appeared to put a couple of holds on our card for room charges that took an inordinate amount of time (a week and a half) to clear off. It was a little annoying to have a large amount of our credit held during our honeymoon. Hopefully we'll be returning soon, as it is a nice place to relax and a prime spot in Boston. Horrible hotel! Just shameful that this hotel claims to be 5 stars!!! Makes you wander what standards are used to evaluate how hotels earn their stars! I have always in the past stayed at 5 star hotels, and each hotel has had a standing shower. According, to this specific hotel rooms with double beds are not provided a standing shower but the room is provided with a tub shower. The tub shower is the most disgusting shower ever with a collection of water and a cheap plastic cover. Why this hotel discriminates which hotel rooms are granted the standing showers is mysterious. I kindly asked the manager to accommodate us but he came up with no real solution. We paid Extra for 2 beds but he wanted us to take a room with 1 king bed. Asked for him to grant us 2 rooms he said that's not an option and didn't care if we were going to post a complaint. Called Expedia and he still didn't rectify the situation!!!! This hotel should not be stayed at. For a 5 star better one stays at the ritz of four seasons but this hotel Should be avoided at all costs!!!!!!! read more

We booked a room here for 3 nights through the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts program. I have to say, our room (Junior suite) was the absolute smallest suite I've ever stayed in, especially for the price. However, the harbor view could not be beat, and the room itself was clean and very well-appointed. My biggest complaint was the noise level, and not just from other guests. By 7 am each morning, staff was banging doors, running vacuums, and speaking loudly to each other in the hallway. We were near the elevators so the volume of traffic past our room was considerable, especially through the weekend. I'm used to much better sound-proofing in other hotels of this caliber. The staff was always very friendly and helpful, except for when we returned late from Fenway one night. There is security stationed in the lobby and guest elevator areas, I'm guessing because the harbor area is open to the public and they don't want just anyone wandering around the hotel. Understandable, but we felt like criminals when the guard rudely demanded to see our room cards - both of them - which took a few minutes of searching on my part because our BoSox souvenirs were at the top of my bag. I'm grateful for added security but think it could have been handled in a much more friendly manner. I guess we didn't look like their typical guests?? The hotel is located in a perfect area, along the water-front, near the aquarium, ferry, tour boat and water taxi docks, and some of the best restaurants around. There is a harbor walkway (some of it is still under construction) that is a great way to work off some of the rich foods and get around without a car. Fanueil Hall, Paul Revere's home, Tea Party museum, and parts of the Freedom Trail are easily accessible via walking. That was an added bonus to our trip and would recommend this hotel merely based on that. All in all, a good experience and we'd certainly consider staying here again. read more

Really disappointing. Would NOT recommend. I booked a facial. The person I spoke to had a hard time understanding what I wanted. (I just said 'facial'). It was for one hour. Called earlier in the day to see if I could get a deluxe facial for 90 minutes. They scheduled that, gave me a one Hour facial and charged me for 90 minutes. They forgot to tell the service provider who came to get me late because they didn't tell her about the new time or the longer facial. I arrive 45 minutes early and a friend had paid for me to have wine and food. 45 minutes was not enough time to get me a glass of wine. After my massage they were supposed to have it waiting for me but hadn't ordered it yet. Even the service provider was annoyed. Very disappointing for an expensive hyped-up facial. It was a nice room, however, if you stay in Mariner's Suite it is definitely NOT worth the price! After a nice long night on the town we planned on sleeping in, that idea came to a screaching hault when we were constantly woken up by loud boat horns. Though at this pice they could provided a little more sound proofing. Ordered breakfast and was poor quality for the price. There was no refrigerator in the room upon checkout they stated we had to request one, upon check in we were never asked and had bags of food in our hands while checking in. Took the opportunity to attend the summer soul music concert last evening. I went with a group of friends. We had a nice table but there is a $25/per person minimum at the tables. None of us are cheap and do not mind spending the money but the food is mediocre at best. I had a chicken ceasar salad. I have had better from Stop and Shop. For $17.50 the hotel cannot spare real parmesan but put in the fake stuff from those containers. My friend had the seafood dip which was mainly cream cheese and a few strands of that seafood substitute. My friend who had the burger enjoyed it but at $18.50 it should be good. The calamari was very greasy. We realize you pay for atmosphere but the food should at least be palatable. If this is any indication of the calibre of the kitchen I say go to the North End instead. The music was great but the band played 40" then took a 25" break. I suspect this is a ploy by the hotel to up their revenue. After two sets we left as we were tired of waiting for the band to come back. As the writer below stated there is barely any public seating so the city and hotel need to stop marketing this as a free event as yes it is free but only if you enjoy standing. This was my first time attending this event and may be the last as it is just not worth it for people who do not want to spend $25 to sit at a a table and eat really bad food. After experiencing the food here I would not venture back to eat inside at one of the other restaurants as I believe the little effort the kitchen puts into the food here reflects the entire kitchen operation. read more

Best service I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I came with my husband and in-laws, and because we had booked two rooms, they gave us a complementary upgrade to a corner room suite. The rooms are gorgeous and so are the views of the harbor. The staff is very nice and helpful. My mother-in-law explained that at five star hotels, tips are expected for pretty much everything and everyone, including even the concierge, should you ask him/her a simple question. Based on what I saw during my stay, I'd say she was spot on about appropriate tipping etiquette. Of course you have complete discretion over how you choose to tip, but this is something to keep in mind. Would definitely stay here again if I were ever in Boston for a special occasion. I can't say enough nice things about my stay here. When the front desk clerk heard that I was a homesick Bostonian who missed the ocean, she upgraded me to a room with a water view. The staff at the breakfast restaurant were attentive and solicitous at every turn. One evening our meeting ate in I the private room upstairs at Meritage. The service was impeccable and friendly, and the food was very tasty. Thumbs up for excellent Baked Alaska with raspberry sorbet. However, the absolute kicker was that I checked out on Friday morning but spent the day tramping around a 97-degree city and was a wet mess when I returned for my suitcase. I asked the desk clerk if I could shower at the gym and she set me up with the spa without blinking. Now I am clean and refreshed and heading home by airplane marveling at the quality of the property, its beautiful setting, the comfort of my room and the deep unquestionable hospitality of the staff. Obviously, this is a Nice Hotel. I haven't stayed anywhere this fancy since I was a kid, so I'm going to rate it based on my experience (or lack thereof). The room looked much nicer than in their website pictures, which don't really do it justice. Really nice city view (didn't want to pay $$$$$ extra for waterfront) with windows that open a surprising amount to let in fresh air, and city sounds if that's your thing. The staff obviously is very courteous and goes out of their way to be helpful, and the room was clean etc. But none of that should be a surprise for something that costs this much. What kept this from being a five-star experience was the little things. You can tell it hasn't been renovated since the 90s - there was a total of, I think, three accessible power outlets and one of them basically didn't work. Like a lot of people, I charge my phone while I sleep, leaving it plugged in so it's fresh in the morning before I head out. It was a huge hassle to accomplish this on my side of the bed, where the bum outlet was. It was obviously meant for the vanity area, but was technically reachable from my nightstand - problem was, only one of the plugs worked at all, and even that was dodgy. I had to plug/unplug multiple times to find the "sweet spot." Annoying. And then there was the complimentary fruit plate. A nice surprise, I thought, except the plum was underripe and had a huge ugly blemish on it, the orange was pale and bitter, and the pear was like a rock. Walking through the halls later, I noticed someone else had taken a single bite out of the plum and then placed the remainder of their plate out in the hall, so it obviously wasn't just mine that was so disappointing. Why even bother with something like this if you're going to half-ass it? No fruit plate at all is better than a terrible one. Luckily, the food you actually pay for is much better. We got room service dessert and snacks both nights we stayed, and it was very nice. Every dessert/entree/etc. comes with complimentary ice water, which might not seem like a big deal, but considering how hotels tend to nickel-and-dime you, it was a nice touch without having to ask. Their hot chocolate is excellent. Desserts are a bit small, but an order of chicken strips and fries was a generous helping. Speaking of nickel and diming, the wifi is free - another nice touch. It's a nice area to stay, overall. A short walk from the aquarium, and from the North End which has plenty to do. We did a City Wine Tours tasting, and the meeting place was less than a mile from the hotel. On the way home, we walked past Davide Restaurant, which was a minor thrill for me as a huge Kitchen Nightmares fan. The weekend was nice and quiet, probably a side effect of the Red Sox parade going on the other side of the city - so I'm not sure what it would be like normally. Even when some of the crowds started to filter back, though, it was still a pretty peaceful area. If you want to stay in a luxury hotel on the waterfront, just a stone's throw from the financial district and the North End, this is a fine choice. Just make sure to bring your own fruit. read more

I attended the Tuesday Night Summer Soul event last night (7/5/11)...it was alot of fun! My friend and I sat at one of the tables (where they do expect you to order something), but you can sit on the side and enjoy this FREE event. Ray Greene & the Innervisions performed. I have seen Ray perform many times and he did not disappoint last night. He was jamming! I only ordered the fries and a diet pepsi. Which came out to $9.90. Other menu items are a bit pricey. Excellent Service. The room was great. One day when we left we forgot to remove the "Do Not Disturb" sign and returned briefly at 10 pm on our way to dinner when we discovered this. Due to the late hour we asked if we could just have fresh towels brought to our room however when we returned at 11:30 pm our room had been completely made up! That was above and beyond. This is silly but silly works for me. My teenage daughter only drinks soda on rare occassions and when she does she prefers coke. The restaurant /bar has pepsi products. When she asked my daughter if that was alright she said she would rather have water. A couple of minutes later the waitress returns with a small bottle of coke. I stayed at the Boston Harbor Hotel with 2 friends who were in town for a convention. It should be noted that we are all in our mid 20's, male, and dress pretty casually. This will be important later on. Service: To say that I was disappointed with the service is an understatement. I was initially impressed with the bell hops and doormen upon check in, as they were both personable and professional. Check in was painless and quick, as is to be expected. Unfortunately about half the staff that we encountered were rude or dismissive of us. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant one morning, and were made to feel like seating us was a chore. The gentleman doing the seating seemed like he was actively trying to dissuade us from eating there, despite there being plenty of open tables. Once we had our seats, the servers themselves were excellent. The bar staff was also excellent, and a negative experience was never had with them. The biggest problem we encountered was with the gentleman standing by the elevator. Whenever we would go to the elevators to return to our rooms, we were asked for our room cards. I'm fine with this practice, but we were always asked very rudely, and felt singled out, as some of the older or better dressed guests were not asked for their cards at all. Overall the service left a bad taste in our mouths, and made us feel like second class citizens. Rooms: Nothing to write home about here. The rooms themselves were average for the area. Clean, beds were comfortable, average size. Bathroom was average, showers had nice pressure, though temperature selection was... finicky. The only thing that stood out to me were the views, which were fantastic. Food: We ate breakfast here once, and visited the bar 3 times. The breakfast was world class, hands down. The poached eggs were simply perfect, and when paired with the hash makes for a lovely breakfast experience. The waiters were second to none. Attentive without being annoying, and incredibly professional. The bar has an extensive collection of single malt scotch, and a respectable wine list. The bar itself is comfortable and relaxing. The barstaff was polite and engaging, and made for a great evening experience. Final thoughts: If the hotel staff could meet the friendliness of the restaurant and bar staff, this would be a great hotel. Unfortunately when you pair substandard service with simply average ammenities, you end up with a hotel that I would have trouble recommending. read more

This hotel pretends to be 5 stars- it is really more like 2 stars (and I am being generous). All of their employees do NOT speak English in front of their customers and it is extremely rude. I constantly see them on their cell phones. Talking in your break room in your native tongue is obviously fine! Talking on your cell phone in the break room is ALSO fine, but not in front of your clients! The 'services' they provide are also terrible. I have never had a worse massage than I had at this hotel. The ladies in the spa I will say go ABOVE AND BEYOND despite their heinous work environment. I will not name names but some are MUCH better than others. They really should see who they hire at this "fancy hotel" because the staff is beyond disgusting, lazy, and more. Oh and no POOL- FOR MONTHS! We stayed at the BHH for the weekend during the Boston Marathon. We only live an hour away and typically stay at the Intercontinental when we visit Boston. This time however we made our reservation here. We were extremely impressed with the service and hospitality from all the staff, from the valet, to housekeeping and dining everyone was wonderful. Although a bit pricer than the Intercontinental, the overall experience was by far more memorable. So here I am reviewing a hotel when I have never stepped foot in any of the rooms, nor have I explored more than half the lobby area. Then what could I possibly have to review? The summer movie series, of course! It is the perfect way to spend a summer evening in Boston. Literally any of the movies in the lineup for any summer would be a fantastic experience. I have been wanting to do this ever since I moved to Boston, and after seeing The Maltese Falcon last weekend, it was definitely worth it! It was tough for me to find some details and words of wisdom for this type of evening activity, so here are some tips for first-timers. -You do need to arrive early, but not as early as some people have said. We got there around 7:15 and were still able to score a table for two on the patio. Granted, it was all the way on the side, but we were that much closer to the water and the movie screen. For anyone who came later, they must have been in the know because the outer perimeter of the patio was lined with people kicked back in lawn chairs. -The food is overpriced and just ok. But you are there for the experience! If you don't want to spend a lot of money, but need to eat, order the guacamole. The portion is big, the chips are thick, and it will fill you up. I was so full, I didn't even get to try the popcorn that is served from a little cart in the archway, and that is actually what I was looking forward to the most. -Service is slow, but everyone is friendly and happy. It seems like the servers literally have no incentive to check in on you, refill your glass, ask if you want more of anything, or even make eye contact. They know that once you are seated, you are in for the long haul. -And speaking of the long haul, it isn't that long. The movie starts at sunset, which means showtime will vary. We were told our movie would start around 8, but it didn't get going until 8:30. All of their movies seem to wrap up under 2 hours. -If you need to use the restroom afterward, you better be quick. There are just a few stalls and the line wraps through the lobby once the movie finishes. -This is one of the best things to do in the summer in Boston! While you're in the neighborhood, walk along the water, check out the Greenway and the kids playing in the fountains, have drinks in the North End, and simply appreciate how amazing it is to see the city transform for the warm weather. read more

This is a truly fine hotel. I enjoyed my stay completely. Regrettably, after I left I discovered a serious problem that you should be aware of. WARNING: When I checked in the hotel blocked my credit card for half my anticipated charges. This is not unusual and most hotels do the same. When I checked out I put the full charge on my credit card. At that time the hotel should have released the hold. They did not. Notwithstanding the fact that I had paid the bill they now increased their hold to cover the total bill. I discovered this upon my return to home and found calls from my credit cards fraud protection department. I called the hotel and it took multiple calls and a letter to the hotel's General Manager to clear up the problem. Of course, no apology. This ineptitude and incompetence could cause you much difficulties, An example will show you how: You're on your way to Europe for two weeks with a clear credit card having a ten thousand dollar limit. The first four nights you stay at the Boston Harbor Hotel. They block four nights of a $500 a night room at $250 a night. That's $1,000. You check out and pay your bill. That's $2,000. They don't release the block and double it. That's $2,000 plus $2,000 for $4,000. You stay at a smiler charging hotel in London and the credit card is again charged $2,000 for rooms. Now you have $6,000 on your card when you thought you'd only have $4,000. Suddenly you find your card unaccepted. Why? Because the Boston Harbor's accounting dept is manned by incompetent fools. Didn't stay there but attended the outdoor concert on a Tuesday where they had a cover band playing R&B, funk, and even a little salsa. If you get the chance you can get front row seating around the wharf while the band plays on a floating barge. You have to order drinks and/or food, but if you rather not you can sit along the steps, and they provide small cushions to sit on. There was even a floating dance floor in front the barge that they allowed people to go on to during the last hour set. The view is great with the gazebo in the background, planes flying above, and boats in the harbor. All-in-all an entertaining way to spend the evening and you don't have to pay a cover or admission. read more

You will pay for the amazing location and views but if you can swing it, it is probably worth it. Upon check-in we were ringed 3 times in our room; the first, to tell us we were restricted from taking photos in the room without prior consent. They apparently noticed our wedding photographer and did not approve. We explained that these photos were for personal use and would not be published but we were ringed a second time to say we should have asked for permission, and signed a consent form before having photographs taken in the room; and the last, for your staff to say that we could indeed have photographs taken in the room. I do not recall seeing anywhere on your website, or anytime while booking the room any disclaimer mentioning this restriction on photography and In the midst of getting ready for my wedding, if was needlessly frustrating to have to deal with this situation. Then, after about 1 hour, we were ready to leave for our wedding. On the way out, our photographer mentioned taking photos outside under the arch. We were overheard and was again told we could not take photos outside. We were also watched to insure we did not take photos in front of the hotel. This makes no sense to me because there were a bunch of people taking photos outside, and I don't see why we were singled-out and harassed. As a result, we returned to our room at midnight following our wedding reception to gather our things, and on the eve of the Boston marathon, we booked another hotel for the night. What a terrible experience. May 16, 2016 This hotel stay was not what I hoped for or envisioned at all and was greatly disappointed with our experience. We understand that these errors happened due to miscommunication and/or confusion on the staffs' behalf but since reaching out and speaking to Mr. Steve J, he has gone above and beyond to hear my grievances and make it right. Mr Steve J. said he would make it right, and after speaking with him, I trusted that he would follow through on his word. At least with regards to handling this situation post-stay, the Boston Harbor Hotel provided the world-class level of service they are known for. read more

I have not stayed at this hotel, but I recently had a work lunch there and it was beautiful, Unbelievable views, comfortable dining room with vibrant colors, comfy couches and a great menu. They have a lot of outdoor performances during the summer as well. This place is run extremely well. read more

We had made a reservation for Tea on July 16 after visiting the Downton Abbey Exhibit (amazing). One of my guests was English so we thought - perfect! Not so much! The waitress had no idea what she was doing. My guest asked for the pot to be 'warmed' - the waitress was totally confused. They had the cutest timer to let you know 'normal' or 'strong' tea. It didn't matter - when the timer was done, there was no waitress to be found to bring the accompaniments for the tea. I had to hunt down the waitress and by that time.....No attention to detail and no attention to guests. So disappointing!! read more

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at and I've stayed at a lot. The grounds and common spaces are beautiful. The beds and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud. The rooms were clean, views are great. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I really can't find any negatives, 5+ star hotel. read more
