Spoiled. That's how I felt while staying here. Came to Boston for a weekend getaway and goodness, it was worth shelling out the extra cash for this hotel. After checking in we left our bags at the room and walked around in an attempt to finish the freedom trail. By the time we got back, we noticed that someone from room service left slippers conveniently by the bed, and had put our bags in convenient places for us to unpack and what not. The hotel itself is conveniently located for tourists, because it's a short (say, 10 minutes) walk to South Station, and it's centrally located, by the heart of Boston. North End isn't very far, and if you walk to the other side, Yankee Lobster and Flour (one of the locations at least) will be waiting to greet you. The bathroom is big, and spacious, and clean, and the soaps were a delight. Check in and check out was easy enough, and the staff was very friendly. Very accommodating, too, since they extended our late checkout to 2:30pm. The overall experience was well worth it. read more

As for fancy hotels, BH is right up there. I've been in nicer, but this place, with its historic context and location is quite unique. The rooms are cozy as you might expect in downtown Boston, but really, if you're visiting a large city, you are only doing one thing in your hotel room -- sleeping of course. ;) The hotel was one of my first introductions to Boston. What a great way to begin the adventure of exploring downtown Boston. My tour guide was great, yet geographically challenged. Great fun nonetheless. The room views are amazing; either the city or the harbor. Not bad either way. The valet was great. We were offered (and accepted) a FREE ride to our restaurant in the North end, complete with return service. AND, if you stay here, make time for working out (or just visiting) their gym facility. I seriously got lost in the men's locker room. Could just be me though.... read more

We just attended a lovely pre-wedding reception this evening at the Boston harbor hotel. Staff was amazing and great service. Wonderful bartenders and service! BHH Summer in the City Series feature concerts, dancing and movies. For free. It seems to me that BHH probably doesn't have to put on these summer series events in order to draw in people. What with the great location, amazing views, awesome patio dining and romantic architecture. I have been wanting to check out the Movies by Moonlight event for years. I finally had the opportunity; and I think I'll be back as much as possible this summer. The location lends itself nicely to the BHH's film choices that include mostly older films, with a mix of romance and intrigue. I recommend getting there early, if you plan to grab one of the free seating spots on the stairs facing the harbor. For an 8:30 sunset we got there at 7:30 and got some of the very last open spots. The BHH provides little foam pads to sit on, making the prospect of sitting on a granite step for a few hours much more bearable. Also, if you're not going to sit at a table and order from the BHH menu, there's a little table set up selling popcorn and movie candy. I think this would be a fun thing to do with a romantic interest, the setting is perfect for that. But not having one of those isn't going to hold me back from gathering up a few lady friends and heading on down. Maybe we'll hit up Tia's afterwards, it's right around the corner and we're guaranteed to find a date, as long as we don't hold our standards too high. On second thought, maybe not... Any evening that starts out this way needs to stay classy. read more

Stayed on a weekend and this was unpleasant experience. Greetings at front was well than checking in ok. However I was woken up by loud door slamming across my room that the bang was so loud I had fallen out of bed and fell onto night stand and bruised my shoulder. Shockingly the slamming kept continuing as if there was a very disgruntled employee. I finally called front desk to have the person stop slamming the door at 2 am. When I checked out I said something and the clerk did even seem to care. I will never stay here again. Will go down the street to Marriott on my next trip to Boston. read more

This review is in regards to the movie night: This past Friday night my girlfriend and I attended the movie night at the Boston Harbor Hotel and we were extremely disappointed with how we were treated and how the event was marketed by the hotel. This movie night is marketed as a family friendly event (similar to movie nights at the Hatch Shell and Christopher Columbus park) whereas in actuality it is an event that is intended to boost food and drink sales at the restaurant while providing little to no public seating for families or individuals looking to attend the event. My girlfriend and I, along with at least 60 other individuals including young children and families, were allowed to sit on the periphery of the restaurant for an hour before the show began. However five minutes before the show started, the hotel staff began telling families and all of the individuals present that if they were not seated at the restaurant or in the public seating section (which amounted to maybe 75 seats for the hundreds of people who showed up to see the movie) they were not allowed to sit in this "public throughway" that was on "private property". A number of parents expressed their displeasure, informing the hotel staff that there is no way that their children could stand for the entire film but all we kept hearing was "I'm just doing my job" and "You need to leave". I guess the reason for my post is just to make sure that this event is marketed appropriately from this point forward. This movie night keeps popping up on websites for "best free things to do" list but in fact there are only about 75 open seats for the public. It is strictly a money making endeavor for the Boston Harbor Hotel and it is not at all a "family friendly" event. read more

Friday Aug 3rd, BHH was playing Princess Bride outside on their barge, and the event was free and open to the public. I called ahead of time to get a sense of the seating arrangements and I was told to get there around 7:30 to snag a seat, otherwise we'd have to sit on the stairs. I was tempted to bring some camp chairs, but my friends and I decided to just get there early and get a seat. We got to the hotel at 7:15ish and seating was already taken. Security (hotel goons) were letting people sit on half the stairs, and 22 people were allowed to sit on the Blues Barge. Everyone else had to take a seat on the patio area which is wide open space, and though it was off to the side of the screen, still allowed for viewing of the movie. We waited almost an hour sat on this brick patio, with probably 25-30 other people. Just as the screen came to life, hotel security came by and told us we couldn't sit there to watch the movie. I'm assuming they were citing fire code or something, but they didn't actually tell us why we couldn't sit there. What I'm upset about (as was everyone else) is that they let us sit there for an hour or more, have our picnics, take our shoes off without telling us we'd have to move or find something else to do on a Friday night. We ended up going to the movies at the Common Loew's, but we could have been there an hour earlier had we known we couldn't sit where we were sitting the whole time we were sitting there! It's not like security didn't see us there for a WHOLE HOUR! I understand the BHH can't accomodate every single person who decides to show up to their movie screenings, but if they can only accomodate 50 people, as security told us after telling us to stand up or leave, then that should be on the website, or they should inform people calling for details that this is the case. Security's attitude towards the people who came to watch the movie smacked of disdain. They were plain rude and they didn't have to be. When the area was at max capacity, they should have turned people away instead of letting us sit on the patio and wait for an hour. They got an earful from more than one audience member, although I'm sure they just expected us to throw ourselves off a cliff, shouting "As you wiiiiiiiish..." as we tumbled all the way down. This hotel is so boston. I love it! It was my reintroduction to Boston, i lived here as a student and moved out to NY and when i was interviewing with a firm downtown, stayed here for the weekend, and this hotel and the city totally won me over! It is so old fashioned, charming and really soo Boston. We drove from NY and parked here, the service is exceptional from the Valet, to room service. The rooms look over the city and are kinda tiny. I loved their spa area in the hotel downstairs.The gym has a pool and whirlpool. We also tried breakfast at the resturants downstairs and it was truly divine and oh so yum with all kinds of confectionaires.They helped us out in decding on our dining options in the city and suggested Lucca in the North end which we loved and send us a free towncar for pick up and drop off! Truly, i couldnt have asked for a better reintroduction to Boston! read more

I think BHH is the most beautiful out of the three hotels I usually stay when I'm in Boston (other two are the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons). It's right by the water and great location for those working in finance. What I love the most is the interior decor - it's so rich with colors and patterns. Deep reds next to different shades of blue... it's like a visual feast. Also, the rooms are typically larger than other hotels. Where BHH misses and why I don't give it 5 stars is that the walls are thin. I can definitely hear my neighbors TV and I've actually been called by the front desk to turn down my radio. read more

We stayed again at the Boston Harbor Hotel last weekend. We had a fantastic time. The view out the window of our hotel was beautiful and the location is convenient to many fun spots to hit day and night. They have a really cool indoor pool. The pool does not have that strong chlorine smell and feeling of your skin drying out when you use it. The decor in the spa and pool area was upscale and relaxing environment to be in. The food at the restaurant there was somewhat pricey but it was good. I prefer to walk to one of the many great restaurants for dinner and breakfast in the morning. The beds are comfortable and the room feels spacious. Even though we live outside of Boston it is fun to spend a night here and really get the feel off a mini vacation. Overall it was an enjoyable and relaxing weekend. read more

We stayed here on our wedding night in a room overlooking the water. Before I say anything else, this place has the SOFTEST bed I have ever slept in. It was pillowtop everything pillowy soft heaven. This is a really nice hotel, the main lobby not anything to write home about, just luxury standard, nice, but not very dramatic. Anyways I'd rather stay somewhere where the rooms are superior if the lobby gives, which is what this hotel is about. Anyways, when we entered the room, a tray of chocolate covered strawberries and chilled sparkling cider was awaiting our arrival. We don't drink alcohol and we loved the fact that the hotel remembered this small but important detail. I ordered room service and in 30 minutes I had a cheeseburger and fries delivered to the room. The food was great and they gave us more fries than the both of us could eat. Still an awesome view at night. In the morning we spent most of the time looking out the window at the boats in the harbor and the planes leaving and coming into Logan airport. The room was gorgeous, albiet in its colonial style, and is in excellent condition. We looked into the Four Seasons and the rooms didn't look quite as good. This is a first rate hotel, and was just perfect for our wedding night. read more

I have had the pleasure of staying at many highly rated hotels but this one is hands down one of the finest. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, perfectly clean and if you have a harbor view it is well worth the additional cost. The staff is attentive, highly trained in impeccable customer service and will refer to you by name once you have checked in. The clincher for this review was when hotel management knocked on our door to check on our level of satisfaction with the quality of the housekeeping! When asked what else could be done for us and we mentioned the need for ice it was done quickly and without attitude by this member of management. Kudos on the level of customer service training at this facility. It made all the difference to this reviewer. read more

Beautiful, elegant hotel right on the waterfront. It would be a fantastic location for a wedding or any other special event. They have a few nice dining options within the hotel (most notably Meritage The Restaurant). The bellhops are especially nice, but there is all around great service. read more

Can't comment on the rooms... but went there recently for the Movies under Moonlight series they have in the summer. These are events in the patio where people watch a movie (usually older movies from the 1950s and 1960s) outdoors. The bar, the restaurant, lobby and patio are world-class. It's too bad that so many people come for the Movies Under Moonlight... so you have to show up around 5 PM to have a real shot of getting a table, and drink alcoholic beverages outdoors while enjoying the film. All in all couldn't recommend it more. read more

Many moons ago, I stayed here with my mother and brother as a celebratory graduation trip from undergrad. This hotel was my first impression of Boston (and New England in general), and it, along with Faneuil Hall's near-replication of London's Covent Garden design, was basically the reason I decided to go to grad school here and, six years later, am a certified northerner. So, basically, staying here changed my life. I don't know if it was the pristine service (they could not have been more accommodating to a more confused group of individuals; they nearly held our hands to the whale watching boats!), the beautiful and immaculate suite we stayed in, the Aerosmith sighting, or the beautiful wedding we saw there one of the days we were there, but it is still my green light, my idea of perfection. In fact, my "perfect Boston day" consists of taking a stroll along the harbor and stopping at the outside restaurant for a glass of champagne and a salad. read more

We arrived late on a Friday afternoon, and were checking out on Tuesday evening (We had to get to New Hampshire for a meeting that began on Wednesday morning). We took a water taxi from the airport to the hotel, and the views while cruising through the harbor were magnificent. From quite a distance we could see the humongous US Flag hanging from the dome of the hotel that separates the residence side from the hotel side. Amazing view. When we got off the boat we could see a blow-up style screen on the dock, and then we found out why... they were playing "Rocky" that night! How fun! You didnt even have to buy anything to sit and watch the movie. Very fun. Check-in was smooth and friendly, as you would expect in a place like this. Bellhops were quick with the cart, and to deliver our luggage to the room. We enjoyed the Sea Grille, as well as Rowes Wharf on multiple occasions during our stay, and the In-Room Dining menu was fabulous, and delicious and the service extremely friendly from each staff member we came into contact with. We had originally planned on going out to Newfound Lake and staying there until Sunday morning when we would need to drive back to Boston for our late afternoon flight home. But we had enjoyed our stay so much the previous week that when leaving Wolfeboro, New Hampshire at the end of our meetings on Friday morning, we called to see if they had any rooms available for us until Sunday morning. They did! We were quite excited to be coming back, and our concierge even found us some great tickets to see the game that night against the Yankees. All in all, it was a very positive experience for us at this hotel and when we come back to Boston we will definitely be staying here again. read more

Loved our experience here! We were two young looking females, so I was concerned that we would not be treated respectfully by the staff based on other reviews. Not the case! The front desk staff was quick and very good to us- especially during the late check out we had. We also had a cracked seal on something from the mini bar and they let us keep it. The hotel itself is beautiful and well maintained and our room was much larger than anticipated. My only complaints are the VERY thin walls (we could hear EVERYTHING happening around us) and the hours for pool. We wanted to relax after a day of walking around but it closed so early. read more

I was very disappointed with the housekeeping staff, they were very LOUD in the hallways, yelling back and forth to eachother and slamming the doors made it really hard for me to focus on the work I was trying to do in my room. The Boston Harbor Hotel goes above and beyond for not only quality hotels, but for experience, scenic view and a feeling of pure luxury. I've been staying at the hotel for a few years now, but in October I got married there. It was the most amazing, loving, FUN, stress-free occasion of my life, and having it held at the BBH was a dream come true. We reserved the small pavilion on the water for our ceremony and the on-site coordinator, Mike, was a pleasure to work with. Around the occasion, we hosted two parties for our guests at the hotel also - it was amazingly fun and so special. We stayed four nights and they upgraded us to a suite the whole time - it was such a wonderful treat! The staff is exceptional, both on the main floor, housekeeping, the spa/fitness area and beyond. Every single moment was met with a smile, accommodation and sincerity for being a guest. You would be hard-pressed to find that level of service at other hotels...anywhere. And no one believes me when I tell them our wedding did NOT break the bank at all, but it felt like a million-dollar occasion. The BBH will certainly work with budges and I think there is something for everyone; don't let money get in the way of enjoyment - there is always some way you can enjoy yourself within your means. All our guests who never visited Boston before got the BEST of our awesome city, I'm so glad Boston Harbor Hotel was the backdrop. BHH is part of my family now! : ) read more

Best experience I've had at a hotel in Boston, and I've stayed at more than my fair share. In fact, it competes with some of the top hotels I've stayed at in Europe. The service is amazing, housekeeping and turn-down service is amazing, rooms are amazing, beds are amazing, towels are amazing, and views are amazing. They send up fresh fruit and bottled water daily and do everything they can to make you incredibly comfortable. This hotel is worth every penny extra you invest on it based on the experience they provide. Highly recommended. Be aware, though, I would not recommend the restaurant or the bar in this hotel...we had negative experiences with the service in both of them during our stay. Still, this can't possibly overcome the great experience the hotel and their staff provide so don't let it sway you...just take a stroll along the beautiful Boston harbor-front and find someplace else to spend your food/drink money. read more

What a great hotel. One of the best I've ever stayed at. Beautiful from top to bottom. Super friendly and helpful people. I couldn't have asked for a better hotel experience. I just can't say enough about this place. I will stay at no other hotel when I go back to Boston. And I can't wait go go back. What a great city and great people and great food. They also have a beautiful bar with a large and unique whisky selection and the bartenders know how to pour a good sized whisky. No arthritis in the wrist like I say when I get a good pour. I noticed that in Boston that I never actually ever got a bad pour the whole time I was here. Hmm maybe that's why I loved Boston so much!! Unlike Miami where everybody has arthritis and you get drinks that barely get the ice in the glass wet. I hate that. It's not like they're not charging outrageous prices for the drink so at least give me a little something more than a sip of whatever I ordered. read more

Called and got connected with Nathan, the concierge to help me with an up-coming birthday weekend for my husband. It was obvious to my husband that someone told everyone in the hotel that it was his birthday, because there were Happy Birthday acknowledgements all around. Nathan saw to it that we could have a couples massage in our suite and made the arrangements. I called again and he made reservations for us for a nice dinner, again a bright "Happy Birthday" for my husband and a complimentary drink. Boston Harbor Hotel has given me simply the best experience I could have asked for! I enjoyed my 3-nights stay in a luxurious junior suite facing the beautiful city of Boston. During my stay, I can honestly say that this experience had me feel like I was on cloud nine. Excellent and professional service by bhh and their staff definitely lived up to their ratings. Two thumbs up! You have to experience it to believe it. update: We were in such a rush upon check out that my boyfriend forgot his watch. Since we're back in NY, we were hoping maybe our friends living in Boston can drop by and pick it up. To our surprise, bhh went out of their way to ship it back to us. That was very thoughtful. I will give my entire experience starting with the phone call about parking. I told him who i was and what company i was with and asked where to go. He said we have valet and self parking, but your company is not validating. I found this shocking as they always do. So i asked to clarify "Are you telling me that my company is not paying for the parking to their event?" He replied "yes sir" I then asked my fiance to call to verify room, parking and event. When she called she was told parking is included and the room was booked. The valet was fine.The front desk was friendly and pleasant.. We got to our room and one of the 2 door type windows must have been defective or have a different hinge because it opened up enough for a large man to through and access the ledge of the 8 story room!!! An obvious safety issue. So I always bring my own beverage to these things, so when i to get ice i walked the whole floor to find no ice machine. Heading back to my room I ran into a guest services person and asked and she said there were none but you could just call and they will send it up. She got the ice for us. When i got back to the room my fiance says that there were no glasses larger than 4oz in the room. So we go to the desk and ask where we could go to get a drink and take it back to our room. He told us where the hotel bar was but did not tell us it wasn't opened! We go back to the room and call room service to bring us 2 adult sized glasses. Half an hour later they arrived!! So i go to put my ipod into the bose clock radio but there is no cord. I went to put some sodas and water in the mini fridge, but it's not on, and there's nothing in it!! Not that i would want anything in there but that's something most people would expect in a room you would pay $500 a night for. We went to our event and had cocktail hour. The waiters with the appetizers were scarce and when they brought out dinner they could not keep up and the courses were abnormally delayed. The meal was excellent. I can't remember having a better filet! The waiters with the wine would come over and if you were not paying attention you very easily could have had a mixed wine happen as it almost did me! And when dessert came out they brought out coffee after, and then didn't make it around the table!! My fiance finally flagged a waiter for coffee. So we had dessert and decided to return to the room only to find a housemaid in there! It was around 9:30pm there was no sign on the door that was closed, and no cart outside!! I like a turn down service just as much as the next guy but there was no notice at all!! So yeah I've had better experiences. read more

This place is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, but I feel like this place is more like a 4. The elevator and room seemed a bit old, even though there was no musky smell. I didn't think the room cleaning lady did a good job at cleaning my room either. Room service people were nice and food usually come within 30 minutes. The ladies in the business center weren't particularly friendly when I had to mail something out. One of the ladies had me come back because she had forgotten how to mail something out and she didn't know how to fill out the forms. Really...?! I've stayed at numerous 5 star hotels in the past, so that type of service definitely isn't acceptable. For the price of a 5 star hotel in SF on a good day, I was hoping their service would make up for the older rooms and interior. I was left disappointed of course. They had a security guard in front of the elevator check your key card and was not friendly. I've not had this happen at 5 star hotels. You simply scan your keycard at the elevator or entrance. Though I do want a safer environment, the security guard could've been trained to be friendlier, since he is representing this hotel. read more

Amazing experience! From the moment if check in until we checked out, amazing service and equally amazing accommodations. We came to the hotel to celebrate my husbands birthday and within 10 minutes of settling into the room, a birthday treat shows up at our door! After dinner, we returned to the hotel for tea and had a wonderful experience in the Wharf Bar. Finally, we came back to our room to find it had turn down service with fresh towels, water on the night stand, slippers by the bedside and ambient music playing. Cannot wait to come back! read more

Excellent service. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a hotel centrally located in downtown Boston. Conveniently located next to the North End, Quincy Market, Financial District, Government Center, tourist attractions, shopping, Chinatown and sports venues. Location is very convenient to all the touristy spots downtown and the T subway system. You have access to the Harbor Walk and the Kennedy Greenway, which were both completed in 2010. The water taxi service from the airport pulls right up to the dock behind the hotel. It's pricey but you get what you pay for. Did not go to the spa or pool, but there were always 5 doormen anxious to help with anything. Ate at the bar one night, interesting combination of old school feel with young people enhancements (friendly employees, HD TV viewable from most of the room, etc.). The atrium is stunning and an easy landmark. Where else are you going to see the yacht of the owner of the Red Sox parked out back? read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Boston Harbor Hotel. When I travel for business, I normally have to stay at places that are a little under this price-range. But, this trip was for pleasure and it was well worth the splurge. I was there for only a couple of nights, but the service was great and they made me feel welcome. The room was beautiful and I enjoyed the antique-style furniture which gave the place more character than a standard hotel. The views are wonderful. As good as it gets! I attended a work meeting here for 2 days and I couldn't have been happier! Our small group met in a smaller meeting room but what a view of the harbor! I had to sit with my back to the windowed wall otherwise I would have no chance of paying attention to the meeting. Every staff member I came across was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The meeting room was outfitted with everything we could ever want or need. Over our two days we had breakfast (one continental, one full), one lunch buffet, and a cocktail reception and dinner on the rotunda. Simply beautiful. The food was delicious and again, the staff stellar. There are plenty of comfy places to sit in and around the hotel. Valet parking is completely a must. If you visit, don't skip taking a break and catching a water taxi to explore. All in all, a wonderful experience! read more

So tonight is our second and last night here and so sad to go home :( They are not lying when they say "Beyond Compare". The service is AMAZING. My boyfriend and I have never stayed in such a hotel...they make you feel like royalty!!! Funny but it inspired us to always stay at hotels like this one in the future...you can't compare the experience and of course whenever we are back in Boston we will be staying here! House keeping comes by throughout the day to tidy up (I felt bad when I came back a few times :P) and then came by in the afternoon to bring complimentary fruit and water. I mean come on!! During the summer These guys show classic movies, if a party of two agrees to spend $60 dining (they have a contrat you have to fax in in advance...) on the granite harbor terrace, they can view the movies... The menu is small and decent; if a bit on the bland side. If I could give zero stars I would. Unfortunately, This hotel felt it was appropriate to place me in a room no more than 30 feet from where they were doing internal construction on the building. Therefore I was awoken before 7 AM, to the sounds of impact wrenches, hammers, metal beams banging, and work been calling out to each other. For what is supposed to be a high end, boutique, hotel, This hotel falls far short. Needless to say, I will not be staying here again and do not recommend this hotel. read more

This was our 5th time staying at the Boston Harbor Hotel, which should tell you something positive right away. The combination of high quality service, tremendous facilities and fantastic location makes this your number one pick when staying in Boston. The staff is outstanding and always there to provide whatever is needed to make your stay more enjoyable. They all work seamlessly together with the single goal of making your stay memorable for years to come. The rooms are large and have great views of either the harbor and the city. The bathroom shower area is one of the best in any hotel we have stayed in. The bedding was soft and very comfy. Turndown service is provided nightly. The amenities in the spa are just what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The workout area has all the latest cardio equipment and plenty of weightlifting machines. There is also ample room for stretching. The pool was under renovation during our stay, however the Jacuzzi was fully operational and always a great treat. Next time you go to Boston, stay at the Boston Harbor and you will be glad you did. read more
