Probably my favorite seafood restaurant during my 4-day visit to hear the Boston Symphony. The batter is light, the seafood fresh, the views great, the staff very friendly and chill. Get a table near the windows so you can see the boats on the wharf I love that they have a long list of daily specials (something for everyone) with great prices. $39 single lobster (1.5 lbs) with mussels is a good deal, but $70 twin is an awesome steal. Next time, will go to Tanglewood in the summer and come here for fish and seafood pasta! read more

We arrived in Boston and wanted to get seafood and the reviews for Boston Sail Loft were very good so we stopped in to try it out. They have a good selection of local craft beer on draft and a full bar menu with all of your typical options. I started off with the New England clam chowder. This is one of the best clam chowders that I've had before. The chowder is very thick and creamy with a generous portion of clams and potatoes in the chowder. For my entree, I ordered the New England lobster roll. There are large pieces of lobster in the sandwich and the lobster tasted very fresh. The restaurant is very casual and the service is very quick and friendly. The restaurant overlooks the water and the outside of the restaurant reminds you of a seafood shack. This restaurant and bar has their regular menu and also daily specials. The clam chowder was pretty good with pieces of clam and potatoes. I wanted to try their lobster bisque, but unfortunately it is only available on certain days as part of the daily special menu and not available when I visited. The calamari was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce was good and paired well with the relish in the sauce. They also have cocktail sauce if you ask. For the lobster roll, you can either choose to have it warm with butter or cold with mayonnaise. I appreciated the generous amount of lobster. The fries were plump and delicious. The Cesar salad was ok, but nothing to make it stand out. The seafood pasta (sautéed seafood portofino) had a good amount of seafood containing scallop, lobster, and 2 big shrimps. It came with red peppers and artichoke. The sauce was a bit on the sour end, so if you don't like sour stuff, the pasta might not be for you. The pasta itself was cooked to my liking where it was not too hard. The Daly peach drink was good if you don't like strong drinks and only had a hint of alcohol and felt a bit diluted. They don't have coke and only had Pepsi. However it was flat and we asked for a replacement which was better and had more bubbles, but still not as bubbly as the canned version. I was amazed by this place so much I was showing all my family the photos. It's waterfront which is picturesque but it's narrow so there aren't a lot of tables to accommodate the demand. The tables are close together, the foot traffic is one way (you have to pull over between tables to let servers pass) and the bathrooms are tiny. But it is packed for a reason and that's the great seafood. So we started off with clam chowder which is poured to overflow from the mugs. The soup was full of clams, potatoes, dill, and so good and creamy that every spoonful was bliss. A cup is a bit expensive but it is filled to the brim. In a city full of chowdas, this has to be near the top of the pack. The lobster mac n cheese is the real star. It usually comes with salad, but I substituted a vegetable medley which was okay, but the mac n cheese was a thing of beauty. Massive chunks of lobster, like an entire claw's worth adorned the top of a gooey cheese mountain with more hefty lobster chunks underneath. It's got in abundance of all the elements you crave in a decadent bowl of heaven. They don't do reservations, so some on an off time if possible. Thank you to friends plus strangers that recommended this place. It was literally my fav meal on our entire trip to NE that I went on with friends. Parking- we did a paid lot, couple blocks down. There was not any street parking that I saw right next to the restaurant since it's on the water. Try your luck with street parking. The restaurant looks like a boat house turned restaurant, tiny and charming, nice views of the water/harbor. If it were a nice day I would have enjoyed a table by the window, but it was cold. We were seated right next to the front door. Which normally would have annoyed me with the door blowing cold air in and out. However I was so distracted by the food, I did not notice, lol. I didn't see any tables for outside, but perhaps they have some, unclear. Service- We arrived and had to put our name on the wait list due to no resy. We waited maybe an hour? We had a drink at Joe's Waterfront up the street while we waited, so it worked out. When we came back to be seated, we were greeted warmly by staff, and had positive interactions from managers and servers through out. Food- yum in the tum. My group split lobster bisque, clam chowder, and the lobster rolls. It was more economical to do so. And everything was great. But I would have enjoyed my own lobster bisque bowl and lobster roll. While waiting for the perfect table, we had fun mingling with other customers, which added to the laid back, friendly, local vibe of the place. We were in Boston for a cruise stop on a rainy Monday in October. Fortunately our Son and DIL live there and were kind enough to take the day off work to come pick us up and bring us here for a terrific lunch. We arrived early but the place was already packed. We grabbed drinks from the bar while we waited for a table. The place is narrow and with the rain we didn't want to wait outside, so we made ourselves as small as possible for the short wait. They seated us to the immediate left of the door. Service was fast and efficient. Food came out in a timely manner and was totally delicious. All of us were very happy with our meals. I can't recommend this place enough! When in Boston make this one of your meals! We brought our adult kids and grandson. He tried lobster for the first time. Trying this clam chowder has been on my Boston bucket list for a long time now, and today was finally the day! My boyfriend and I stopped here for a quick visit to fulfill my dream. To my surprise, there was no wait for a table, but we opted to sit at the bar. I started with a glass of house sangria and my boyfriend got a shirley temple. We liked our drinks! Then we got two bowls of clam chowder. The chowder was really good and I liked the flavors a lot. It was also a good size and filled me up. I will say though....and I hate to say it...although it was really good, the photos of it I saw online, made it look better in my mind and it didn't blow me away. **November 2025: Saturday Evening Visit** My friend requested we have clam chowda while staying in the Boston area and I happily obliged. I found Boston Sail Loft in my search and saw that it was praised for their fresh seafood and creamy soup. Parking was a nightmare especially since it got dark early and there were many pedestrians jaywalking. Nevertheless, we eventually found a parking lot and paid the premium ($28 for 12 hours). The parking lot was only a 5 minute walk to Boston Sail Loft and to my surprise there was a crowd of people waiting at 5pm. We checked in and were told that it would be at least a 30 minute wait (regardless of bar or table seating). It was just very busy. The Quincy Market wasn't too far so we loitered there before returning when I received the text summon. We were seated at a table, which was a good thing since I ordered a ton of food. Since it was Saturday I decided to go for the Saturday specials including the Lobster Bisque and Lobster Roll, in addition to a clam chowder. It was way too much food, but since I was at the start of my vacation I decided to live a little lol The clam chowda and lobster bisque came out quickly and were perfect to warm up during the cold day. The first thing that my friend said when we took his first sip was "wow this is the best clam chowda I've ever had" - and I'd have to agree. It was extremely thick and creamy and the dill seasoning just gave it a nice herby kick to it. The lobster bisque was also very good. It had a deep savory taste and there was a huge lobster chunk on top. Pretty soon afterwards my friend's fish and chips and my lobster roll came. The lobster roll had a TON of very plump lobster meat and the bread was nicely toasted. Service was very friendly and quick and there were people here of all ages and backgrounds. It's definitely a no frills vibe and the seafood shines. Boston Salt Loft really is a gathering place for all and while it's kind of a nightmare to get to I wouldn't hesitate to come back again. We had extra time in Boston before the Bruins game and made it a point to go to the sale loft to try out their famous clam chowder. The chowder was terrible. They were barely any clams, it did not taste like clam chowder. And it was overly seasoned with suppose celery. The cream was absent. The trace of onion, which is important was also app absent. For not being a local, I thought it was a great idea to have a lobster roll every day of our trip. Boston sale loft did not disappoint with their warm lobster roll accompanied with crispy fries. Sidenote, the side of coleslaw was also great to balance the buttery lobster. We were hesitant to try the clam chowder due to the significant dill appearance, but it truly has a mild taste. This place is cute, especially since it's right near the water, but the wait for a table was over an hour. We asked if we could order to-go and were told yes, but only lobster rolls and clam chowder were available to-go, which worked fine for us since that's mostly all we wanted. On my way to the restroom, I noticed some tables were available, but perhaps no staff to cover them. idk. Quick tip: the restroom really needs some work. There are only two stalls for the ladies, and the one I used had the toilet placed so close to the door that you could barely open it. Sitting down was awkward, knees almost touching the door, and standing up required a weird, cramped motion. Honestly, it felt unsafe, more suitable for a child than an adult. We got our order to-go and found a spot at the nearby park along the Harborwalk. This was the best option I think because it's a busy area and you can people watch and enjoy the view of the harbor. The New England clam chowder was thick, flavorful, and full of dill, I loved it. One cup each was more than enough. The lobster roll was truly a full meal, and came with fries and coleslaw. When the day came to try it out, yes, I get that its busy, but I was not happy with the way the hostess greeted me and the whole interaction. HE was a tall, blonde GUY and yes, I'm a LATINA so you just know when someone is being off with you. Alright, alright. I know this is a tourist place but let me tell you as a fellow Bostonian who's born and raised here... I love this place! Try to go as early as possible to be on their patio so you can be right at the water or ask for the side tables. They actually open the window and you can feel the water breeze. It will enlighten the experience. Trust me. Especially if you're on a date or having to impress your in-laws or Asian mom or an Italian auntie who is just picky about everything. Price? It's decent enough for a seafood place. Just make sure you hide the bills from those picky moms/aunties. Anywho, parallel parking is limited but you might be able to find some. There's a small parking lot that you can pay for based on the hourly rate or there all day (like a 3 minute walk from the harbor parking lot to this sail loft). Honestly, worth it if you want to walk around to Quincy Market or go on the harbor walk. Also, limited parking space. If you really can't find any, you can always park close to Quincy Market or close to NE Aquarium. Just be cautious as some parallel parking are for residents only and at certain times... just a heads up for those who are not from the area. Or you can just take public transportation and walk around. Many nearby MBTA stops; you just won't directly be dropped off at the front. Try to leave your luggage elsewhere as this place is quite quaint. Worry not as the servers will do what they need to do if you have to bring your whole wardrobe with you. Clam chowder - a must try! As someone who grew up in Boston and Boston metro, I have had my big fair of trying almost all clam chowders. Here, it's with dill and it's such a surprising taste. The food in this establishment is very good, as well as its values for money (particularly in this part of the city). Our lobster feast is one of the best lunches on our trip. The service, on the other hand, is less than stellar. The host, who look after the waiting list, and the hostess, who seated us, were both delightful. Our waitress, on the other hand, seems indifferent to her job. Perhaps she is having an off day (or a day off). Although the food is first rate, the service is not worth the 20% gratuity that we give so we are not ostracized by the service industry. Lastly, there's a smell of ammonia inside the restaurant and my wine glass needed some good cleaning, both show that some attentions are needed from the management. If the attention to the details were improved, this would definitely be one of our favorite restaurants in the USA. read more

This place was to die for! I wish I could go back regularly (from the Midwest). My friend and I waited 40 minutes - it WAS WORTH IT! The clam chowder soup was the best I've ever had. The texture, flavor, and portion size was perfection. The stuffed shrimp was full of lobster and crab! An unbelievable meal. The service was friendly and quick. Saw this place highly rated everywhere so came to give it a try while visiting. The clam chowder was a 3.5/5, lobster roll was a 3/5. We got there 15 minutes before opening on a Thursday and were 3rd in line, sat right away. The best thing we had was the loft #84 drink - so good. Views were great, vibe 8/10. Problem was food was just really bland unfortunately, nothing was salted no real flavor anywhere. Lobster was a bit chewy, fries were just ok, coleslaw has raisins (beware if you hate them) - and clam chowder was good but still needed salt, tasted like nothing until we added some. Service was good. Prices are decent, I'd give it a try but this is the second lobster roll I've had in Boston and just can't seem to understand the hype. read more
