Wonderful place for any occasion! petite restaurant that had excellent service. I had the pri-fix menu. My favorite was the Dayboat scallops. It included asparagus. It was well proportioned and included taro chips. I'm not the biggest fan of anchovies, but I decided to give it a try and go for it. It wasn't too "fishy" nor "salty" even though I know both are gonna happen. It was very tasty with the garlic toast it came with. The bread pudding was TO DIE FOR!!!! Very good restaurant. I had a three course prix fixer which was $55, and it included English pea soup, halibut, and strawberries with mascarpone cheese for dessert. All were excellent. The highlight of the restaurant was our waiter Gregory. Not only did he provide excellent and caring service, but he also recited a poem and caught a water bottle that I clumsily knocked over in midair before it spilled. Bravo! read more

Bouche is an intimate farm to table restaurant near Chinatown. There is a prefixed menu with two options for appetizer, entree, and dessert that is often changed. If you go with someone else, I recommend ordering different things so that everything can be sampled. The scallops were delicious and came with asparagus and parsnip chips. My husband and I went to Bouche to have an anniversary dinner and catch some entertainment at a blues club nearby. Let me start by saying this is our second visit to this restaurant. We had dinner there pre-pandemic and it was absolutely fantastic. However, our second visit this past week was an absolute disaster. Let me start with the waiter, incredibly abrasive, dressed in a way that it was hard to tell if he was a last minute stand in that had no waiter attire? He spoke to my husband and I was unprofessional in how he spoke to us. Next level casual, including asking me if " I knew what I was working with", when I was eating my food. Strange question, I think he wanted to know if I knew what I was eating since I picked the "Adventure" mystery dish. Now for the food itself, it was next level of mediocrity. My mystery dish tasted like Campbells creme of mushroom with a stale pastry puff. My salad was the only highlight of my meal and that I could have done at home at home easily. Dessert was blah, and we honestly could not get out of there faster. This is so sad because this was a very very good authentic French restaurant, but now, it does not even come to the level of a cheap cafe in France. Service was awesome we had reservations at the counter and they offered to give us a table! Seating was tight but plenty of elbow room! The food was ample in serving size and flavors were awesome! It was a price fix menu for the holidays. We both tried food gras for first time OMG awesome!!! Not sure I'd have it again but it is off my bucket list!!! My lady had the trout which had a funky flavor so they replaced without question and she had the duck which was outstanding. And the great attitude of staff was notable! I had the mushroom pasta and it was awesome!!! Perfect flavors and texture. We both enjoyed the dessert offerings and had a night cap coffee!! We will return when ready for French cuisine! Disappointed!!! My husband and I went here yesterday for the pre-fixe thanksgiving dinner and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Not a single item that we had met expectations. They started us with cornbread which came out cold and nothing to write home about. The butternut squash soup was average at best, but a little too heavy on the cream. The salad had no dressing to balance out the bitterness of the radicchio. Despite the disappointment of the first two courses, we were still excited for the main course to come out. After all, this is a well rated French restaurant. This turned out to be the greatest disappointment of all. The turkey was unevenly cooked, the gravy was flavorless and the mashed potatoes were pureed into some sort of unimaginatively sweetened baby food yuck. The only item that was decent in the entire meal was the broccolini. But any restaurant who can't steam vegetables should just shut their doors. We also selected a bottle of Muscadet to go with our dinner that was only so so. We were not impressed with the service either, but I'll give them a bit of a pass as it was a holiday and they were busy. However, when the server came to clear our table and we asked for our mostly untouched meals to not be boxed, she expressed surprise, but did not venture to ask if there was a problem with the meal. read more

The husband and me were looking for a brunch option on a Saturday morning after one of "our pretend to be a tourist" walks through the city. (We chose Union Square as the neighborhood on this particular sunny Saturday morning in SF.) I was excited to see Bouche open, so decided to go there. We had never tried breakfast there. We were seated outside in the parklet. The space felt a little congested but loved being outdoor on a sunny morning taking in neighborhood vibes of Nob Hill/Union Square. The brunch menu is pretty limited - I think 5 items but they do make their lunch menu available to you. We ordered coffees, some Fougasse bread, the Chicken BLT sandwich for me and my husband opted for the Omelette (it came with Mushrooms and goat cheese both of which he hates ) - so he asked "can i have a different Omelette". The server was like- "Yes! Of course!". I must say they were gracious and very accommodating. Our food came out fairly quickly. The chef made a most amazing Omelette with asparagus and artichokes. It was delicious (I snuck a bite from his plate). At first glance, I was a little disappointed looking at my chicken BLT sandwich because it came with no "L"ettuce or "T"omato. It was chicken & bacon. There was salad on the side. I thoroughly enjoyed the simple fresh spring mix salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The veggies were so fresh. Then I took at bite of the BLT. It was yummy, a little dry but still good. I had to get over the no tomatoes (i love tomatoes). Overall- service was great, we would have like to sit inside but the outside was good, food was hit & miss (mainly because i had a preconceived expectation). A recent business trip to the city, my colleagues and I picked Bouche, due to the proximity to our hotel, as we had less than 2 hours before we needed to be at SFO. What a wonderful choice! The food was fantastic! The place is small and rustic, we were seated upstairs. After reviewing the prix fixe menu, we made dinner selections - at which time I advised Haena, our server of our predicament. She was taken aback but quickly advised the kitchen and the dinner plates arrived at our table. The bread plate arrived - yummy. I had the zucchini soup and as main dish the pork chop - a thick cut cooked to perfection, on a bed of vegetables. For dessert, I had the almond cake which was fabulous. However, the moment that impressed us the most was the wine or rather what happened with the wine. When Haena uncorked the bottle, she realized the wine was not at its best quality. She quickly apologized and fetch another bottle of wine. I think, a place of lesser standards would have duped us especially since we were pressed for time. I was impressed by Bouche and very appreciative of Haena's attentive service - I plan to return to enjoy a leisurely epicurean experience at Bouche. It's great to return to fine dining! read more

Very small dining space, we ate at the small counter by the door and it was nice. The bartender was also the host and our server. He was so nice and friendly! Hubs and I shared the salad, Brussels Sprouts, and foie gras as starters and also shared the hearty risotto. The server chilled our wine in this cute ice "bag" instead of a traditional bucket, it made us smile. Very cute! The space is warm and inviting. I would definitely dine here again. I had such a nice meal here and loved the ambience of the place, I felt like I was back in Paris. There is not a lot of space in the restaurant so keep that in mind when booking a reservation. I sat upstairs where you have a nice view of the string lights and French flag; a nice French bistro vibe. There is a pre-set menu where you choose the appetizer, entree and dessert for a set price. I started off with the little gem salad which was so fresh with the honeydew, watermelon and spring mix. Nice and light appetizer! My entree was the salmon cooked medium rare with a fennel confit and tasty sauce. I enjoyed the unique flavors of this dish. For dessert I tried the chocolate pot de creme which wasn't anything special. The wine menu has extensive wines from France to pair nicely with the meal. Based on the other reviews, the rotating menu may be a hit or miss but I will definitely return for another try for the fresh and delicious food! Came here on a Thursday night (last reservation of the night!) back in November. There was about a 15 minute wait, but you'd be afforded with the same relaxed dining pace. You order from a Prix Fixe Menu here; each person selects their Appetizer, Entree and Dessert. I got the Butternut Squash Soup for the appetizer and Country Style Pork Chop for the entree. The soup was very creamy and lightly salted; perfect for a cold evening. The pork chop was tender and the lard sauce made it even juicier. My friend and I tried both desserts together -- the Floating Island (soft meringue) and the Rhum Spiced Sponge Cake. Personally I liked the sponge cake a lot more; it wasn't too sweet or heavy. Also got the Cheese Board and a bottle of red wine to share. The environment was very relaxing and intimate with romantic, dim lighting--lots of date nights happening around us! We were seated on the second floor which had French windows opening up to the evening bustle of Bush Street. There is a relaxed pace with the service; even though we were part of the last group of diners, there wasn't a rush and each course came out slowly. Wow, what a hidden gem. First, I want to talk about the incredible and friendly service we had there. From the point where we were greeted on the sidewalk, the service was incredible. There is this weird disconnect between the appearance of this hole in the wall and the quality of their food. Our waiter was very casual, so I was astonished at how well he knew the food and wine. It is so great to be able to enjoy a meal like this without worrying about whether you use the right fork. The ambiance was rustic but very comfortable. A romantic little get away. Now, there is the food. The food just kept getting better, from the "Adventurer" appetizer (chef's choice, and you get to guess what you are eating). My first course, the Potato-leek soup, was incredible. A soup like this just begs to be bland at a lesser restaurant, but not so here. I savored every ounce. I had the Chicken for the second course, and it was delicious and moist (so easy for other restaurants to make it dry) and the brussels sprouts were cooked to perfection... cooked through but without being soggy. I finished with the Rosemary Crème Brûlée, and I had to restrain myself from not using my finger to get every last bit. It was thinner than I had experienced before, but the effect was to make the crunch of the crust more predominant. Wonderful choice. I highly recommend this place, it is a hidden wonder. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. The menu was based on local farmers market finds in celebration of Bastille Day. OMG. This is the best dining experience I have ever had. This is such a cute authentic French bistro. Very cozy and love the second floor view outside. The waiters speak French and a lot of the people eating around us spoke french too. That added such a quality to the meal, such a fun and unique experience. I take some french classes and love French cuisine and was able to practice my French here which is great. Get the bread with bacon! The best bread, so fluffy and buttery and tasted like it was baked with love. All the ingredients are super fresh and delicious. Had the scallop crudo. Raw scallops were very good, first time I had a dish like that. Couldn't eat all of it, too much raw fish for me. They give a good portion. Luckily I had someome to share it with :) The salmon entree was also delicious and cooked perfectly and paired well with the lentils. First time I had a cheese platter for dessert too and I am so glad we got it. They really know thier bread and cheese of course! Tastes just like if I was in Paris. I dont know what type of cheese it was but it was perfectly stiff and creamy at the same time and the honey and apples with it really completed the flavor profile especially with the bread they give you as well. Ordered takeout during the covid quarantine. The person on the phone, and the people working at the restaurant seemed really nice and friendly. I ordered their SOS menu that comes with bread, appetizers, entree and dessert. The bread was a brioche bun with some kinf of spiced butter on the side. Nothing exceptional, but it was good. For the appetizers, I had the duck croquette. This was hands down the best dish of the order. It was really juicy and and had a nice crisp texture. I chose the half roasted cornish hen for the entree. It tasted pretty bland to me, and the insides didn't have much flavor, and was kind of dry. The dessert was a pear tart. Again, it was a good tart, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the food was decent, but slightly overpriced for the quality. read more

We enjoyed the soup, salad, bread, and chocolate pot de creme. The bottle of wine suggested by the waitress was okay. The Bordeaux wine by the glass was great. The pasta was pretty good but not incredible as it should've been for the price. The steak was oddly served with puttanesca on top, which is a briny Italian pasta sauce, which doesn't go with steak, nor is it French! Nobody at the table liked this pairing. Would be better to stick with a classic jus. Steak was served literally raw. I saw a few other reviews of similar raw entrees. I just don't comprehend how a chef can put that on a plate and how the waitress can then bring it out when it's visibly raw meat. I am not talking about rare, this was raw and the waitress essentially admitted to knowing that the dish wasn't right, but not until the meal was over. She should have compensated this entree. Especially when the kitchen only has to cook the same 3 entrees every night for 2 weeks, this error is unacceptable. I also think it's ridiculous for the owner to respond to negative reviews with eye-roll emojis, and "Pinocchio nose" emojis suggesting customers are wrong or lying about their bad experiences. How about listening to customer feedback in order to do better next time? Ultimately, a $500 dinner for 4 should be better. I would give this place another try someday because I feel like they could do better with the entrees, but the fact that this is how they respond to complaints is deterring. read more

Our waiter was insightful in pairing our wine with our entrees, and was generous in offering us samples to make our decision. The carrot soup was refreshing and well balanced, the duck breast was tender and delicious, and the mount blanc had the perfect amount of nuttiness and sweetness. The waiter informed us that the portions wouldn't be huge, but I was satisfied with the amount of food, especially after ordering some bread for the table - we were satisfyingly full without feeling stuffed. Our booking was very last minute so we weren't able to dine indoors due to limited availability, but the inside looked charming and cozy. We were comfortable sitting outside with the space heaters. We had the adventure appetizer, which was fascinating! Very complex flavor and great texture. I'm not going to spoil the ingredients, but you have to try it! The menu couse we had the salad, which was already good enough. With extra prosciutto, the combination came to another level. Main course, my friend and I got monkfish and steak. Both were good. But the desert, omg that's mine-blowing! The white chocolate custard with peach, I literally teared up a little bit. I'm never a white chocolate fan, cuz it tastes too sweet and the texture of some of them is like wax. But this one, it was soooo good, I almost wanted a second one. The peach was the sweetest part, the custard provided a great balance between dairy and chocolate, the texture was even like mochi a little bit. The best part was the plum sauce, which provided a great acidic flavor and complex smell. My friend got the raison ice cream, which was also amazing! Still scratching my head on how a $55 meal came to double that, but when you're charge $10 for sparkling water, $3 for bread, and $33 for 1.5 glasses of wine, it goes quickly. The roasted tomato soup was delicious. Ordered the steak medium, but the waiter warned that the chef didn't like to cook past medium rare. Uh, ok. Who's paying for this meal? Steak came very rare and I didn't see the waiter again until he came to swoop the plate, offering 'to pack it up for me'. Glen is a gracious, passionate, and life giving human. We ventured into Bouche for a unique and delicious meal, which we got, plus made all the better by our server Glen. The restaurant's ambiance has golden and whimsical touches which are eye catching. The chilled corn soup was unique and flavorful. The duck, spinach and seasonal nectarines were prepared to perfection. The fresh fig/toasted almonds/gelato, and the strawberry panna cotta with pistachio were a flawless balance of textures and taste.
