I really love the menu selection here, and the signs that state they attempt to use organic and locally grown, sustainable sources for their produce, which I highly value. I would come frequently, just for that. I gave 3 stars because I had recently been to the same restaurant in Vacaville twice, and tried the grilled brie with apples & fig jam on parmesan-crusted bread, and truly loved it! The first time in Vacaville, the bread almost looked like apples and cinnamon were embedded into the bread, but it may have just been the look of the parmesan (I only had a bite of someone else's that time). The 2nd time in Vacaville, I could taste the parmesan, and it was so good! Either way, the bread of the sandwich in Vacaville added much to the flavor of the sandwich, and I'd drive out of my way for it. So, once home, I looked up the closest Boudin in San Jose and found this location. It is a busy parking lot here, and there was a line of customers, so it took a little while, but I was anticipating the sandwich I'd tried at the other location. The sandwich we got here was not one I'd come back for. The bread tasted plain, and the strongest flavor I had was of the fig jam. I would order other items over the brie & apple sandwich here, if I came again, and the entire reason I looked up this restaurant was to have that sandwich again that was so delicious elsewhere. They are missing the mark, or swapping out the bread, or not making the bread the same as they do in Vacaville. Because it is a busy parking lot, and a busy location, I would not go out of my way to come back here again, which I was hoping was to be a new place to have a quick meal once in a while with new options to eat. If I worked or lived a little closer, I might frequent this restaurant, as I do truly appreciate that they try to use the freshest of produce, and organic, and many menu items do sound good. But, it is not close enough for me to drive out of my way, when the sandwich was very disappointing to the one I had elsewhere. But there is definitely potential here. If I owned this location, I would try the sandwich in Vacaville to see the difference and make some small changes, as it is a world of difference in flavor! read more

We ate in the store. The food was very fresh and good. Had tomatoe soup with side caesar. The only negative is how long it took for the food to be brought to our table. i went to this location for the second time after some years and it was a nice experience. I went for a lunch with coworkers and it was perfectly priced and the ambiance was nice. I get that it's a chain, but I was surprised by the low rating because this place has always served me and my family right! My in laws were in town from Alabama and could not get enough of their sourdough and their tomato soup. We got the family bundle for 4 which came with 4 soups in bread bowls, 4 sandwiches, and 4 cookies. The clam chowder is my go-to soup, but you'll also find life changing tomato soup there! It was a whole lot of food for a great value! California has it good - my in laws would kill for a place that serves something remotely close to sourdough near where they live. We usually enjoy a quick dinner at Boudin, but not today. They have a new touchscreen so that you can order yourself, but it's horrible and you have to touch each button five times to get it to work. Meh. Came here last month and got a clam chowder in a bread bowl to go. It took just a couple minutes for my order to get ready, and it was indeed delicious when I got home. Pricing is a bit ridiculous (6.89), but at least the bread and soup were tasty. Tonight, dined in and ordered a cobb salad and a chicken club sandwich. It took 14 minutes for our food to come out after paying for it. COBB SALAD (8.99): "crisp, chiffonade romaine lettuce, Blue cheese, crispy applewood smoked bacon, all natural diced chicken, chopped egg, diced tomato, ranch dressing" There was no chicken when this came out. Bacon wasn't crispy. The egg, tomato and bacon were all diced so finely that it was difficult to get them in a bite with the huge pieces of lettuce. After I went to the counter to inquire about the missing chicken, a small cup of it was brought to my table a few minutes later. TOASTED CHICKEN CLUB (8.99) "all natural chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, toasted sliced sourdough" I asked for sourdough baguette instead of sliced, and was told they were out of it so I got ciabatta instead. I requested no mayo, and that was honored. I just realized now as I write this review that there was also no Swiss cheese on this. The bacon was soggy. Avocado was mushed and spread into the bread. Service was also weird. Every other table around us was asked at least twice about how their meal was. No one ever stopped by our table, outside of bringing our food and the missing chicken. Staff was overly casual. The two food runners spent more time talking to each other (and friends who arrived) than actually delivering food. (My salad was on the pass for at least five minutes before it came to the table.) Oddly, one of the staff members (the only one in a tan shirt) got himself a bowl of soup and was standing by the self-service drink station and eating it. He put it down on the side of the station and went to clean another part of the restaurant, returning later to eat more of it. It was very weird - I've never seen a staff member stand and eat something in guest's view, especially not next to an area where guests would go to get their own drinks. My complaint with this Boudin location is aimed at the service. I took my daughter-in-law for lunch and the young man at the counter had a rude, surly attitude. He was abrupt with the elderly woman in front of us, and when our turn came he was disinterested and impatient. He needed more training or an attitude adjustment. There's also a bunch of pastry items to add to your order, I usually grab a bag of their freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The cleanliness of this place--as it can get busy--is probably why it continually attracts customers. I usually get the clam chowder or buttersquash soup. They're both rich, creamy, and flavorful. What I really like about their clam chowder is that it's fresh and the clams don't have that pungent "seafoody" kinda kick to it. It's served hot every single time which is key to a great soup (imo). I usually add two packets of butter to the chowder for extra flavor. Check out their amazing sandwhiches and salads as well. I always get good service here so that's rad. Boudin is somewhere I like to go on a cold and rainy day, or when I'm getting over a cold. Their soups are nice and hearty and always seem to fill me up. I'm a simple lady, so my go-to meal is a half bowl of tomato soup and half a bacon grilled cheese. With a drink included, this costs around ~$14 and this is without a drink. A pretty big price for the amountof food you actually receive. I'm guessing it's because of the quality of the food, and how the sourdough they use is fresh every day. All in all, this is a great place to go if you have some extra cash and wanna a good meal in a cute bakery style restaurant. Oh! I almost forgot- you definitely want to take advantage of the Boudin card, because you get free bread every month (small baguette, big ones are extra $), and $3 off every now and then. Food is very good service was friendly. I did pre-order online at 11am to test that out. Ordered the blue note burger and the clam chowder. Saw after placing order it said to-go so I immediately called and told them I wanted it to be prepared for in store dining. Food was ready when requested at 12:40pm, but all bagged up. Another disappointment was that the Chowder came in a cup with a small role on the side. I expected the bread bowl as was pictured in the online order form. While waiting for others in our party I ask one of the servers and she said that all online orders should have come with the bread bowl and she rectified the situation promptly which was very nice; however I did have to ask. If Boudin is reading this then I would request that they add an option to on-line ordera for some text regarding the order where I could have specified that I wanted it for dine in.
