I love love love this place. I enjoyed the Apple cheese sandwich. I love their coffee , cookie all of it. But mostly that chowder !

We ate in the store. The food was very fresh and good. Had tomatoe soup with side caesar. The only negative is how long it took for the food to be brought to our table. Got up to go check on it after a long wait. Server who brought it finally was pleasant. They may have been short on workers because we noticed several tables were not bussed. read more

Waited 30 minutes for our food when we ordered at 1115am. There was 2 other customers in the building at the time, one table was eating. At 1135, my daughter asked about our food and the "manager" told her that they were just waiting for the mac and cheese. When we finally get out food, the mac and cheese we were waiting for was cold. I asked for the manager, but I guess she was to busy to come and talk to me. One of the other associates helped me and told me that they could get me a new one in 3 minutes. Great food, combo deals are a good price for the delicious food. The biggest and most painful problem is the time it takes, not because the fault of the kitchen but how they are set up logistically and the lack of staff. My order is usually ready in 10-15 min but I have to wait over 30 minutes because the guy bringing the food also has to continuously take order for people. It's very inefficient how they run things. I'm updating my review. My husband and I were very disappointed in the service that we've gotten the last 2 times that we've eaten here. Although they made a mistake in how much they charged me and after arguing with me, said it was their mistake, they never apologized. This took several minutes of my time. It was very stressful and humiliating. I've always been pleased with their food but their customer service is terrible! I get that it's a chain, but I was surprised by the low rating because this place has always served me and my family right! My in laws were in town from Alabama and could not get enough of their sourdough and their tomato soup. We got the family bundle for 4 which came with 4 soups in bread bowls, 4 sandwiches, and 4 cookies. The clam chowder is my go-to soup, but you'll also find life changing tomato soup there! It was a whole lot of food for a great value! California has it good - my in laws would kill for a place that serves something remotely close to sourdough near where they live. We usually enjoy a quick dinner at Boudin, but not today. They have a new touchscreen so that you can order yourself, but it's horrible and you have to touch each button five times to get it to work. There was a line of people waiting to order while two people standing in front of the food window looked on and did not even attempt to take the orders. My complaint with this Boudin location is aimed at the service. I took my daughter-in-law for lunch and the young man at the counter had a rude, surly attitude. He was abrupt with the elderly woman in front of us, and when our turn came he was disinterested and impatient. He needed more training or an attitude adjustment. Your dining experience begins at the counter and the counter help left a bad taste. The food is decent, but with the service given I would look for one the many other choices for food in that area read more

So with the rainy day I decided to order clam chowder bowls for dinner for the family. I placed my order online at about 12:30pm for pick up at 5:15pm. I go to pick up my order at 5:15 and they don't have it because "they ran out of chowder." The counter girl asked the girl in the kitchen how long until more chowder is done and she replied "I'm not making more chowder." How do you run out of chowder and then not attempt to make more on a rainy night like tonight? The blame was placed on the morning shift not refilling or making more. I see. The millionaire avocado toast is expensive @ $9.49 but it's soooo good! What you get: one slice of sourdough bread toasted, thick caramelized bacon (86), cage free boiled egg, smashed avocado. There aren't two slices of this heavenly goodness, I was disappointed when I ordered it the first tine around. It comes with choice of salad or chips - I get chips for crunch. There's also a bunch of pastry items to add to your order, I usually grab a bag of their freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The wait is usually around 10-15 mins even if you're the only one waiting...I've noticed only one cook in the back making the meals. Meh. Came here last month and got a clam chowder in a bread bowl to go. It took just a couple minutes for my order to get ready, and it was indeed delicious when I got home. Pricing is a bit ridiculous (6.89), but at least the bread and soup were tasty. Tonight, dined in and ordered a cobb salad and a chicken club sandwich. It took 14 minutes for our food to come out after paying for it. COBB SALAD (8.99): "crisp, chiffonade romaine lettuce, Blue cheese, crispy applewood smoked bacon, all natural diced chicken, chopped egg, diced tomato, ranch dressing" There was no chicken when this came out. Bacon wasn't crispy. The egg, tomato and bacon were all diced so finely that it was difficult to get them in a bite with the huge pieces of lettuce. After I went to the counter to inquire about the missing chicken, a small cup of it was brought to my table a few minutes later. TOASTED CHICKEN CLUB (8.99) "all natural chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, toasted sliced sourdough" I asked for sourdough baguette instead of sliced, and was told they were out of it so I got ciabatta instead. I requested no mayo, and that was honored. I just realized now as I write this review that there was also no Swiss cheese on this. The bacon was soggy. Avocado was mushed and spread into the bread. Service was also weird. Every other table around us was asked at least twice about how their meal was. No one ever stopped by our table, outside of bringing our food and the missing chicken. Staff was overly casual. The two food runners spent more time talking to each other (and friends who arrived) than actually delivering food. (My salad was on the pass for at least five minutes before it came to the table.) Oddly, one of the staff members (the only one in a tan shirt) got himself a bowl of soup and was standing by the self-service drink station and eating it. He put it down on the side of the station and went to clean another part of the restaurant, returning later to eat more of it. It was very weird - I've never seen a staff member stand and eat something in guest's view, especially not next to an area where guests would go to get their own drinks. Very disappointing, especially given the missing ingredients and uncaring service. read more

Ok. I don't even know why they are getting two stars, maybe because the location is great and a bunch of parking spaces available! I was in the area and decided to grab some food to go. I was there around 10:30 am and it was empty, two or three tables occupied at the time. Avocado purist toast seemed like a great choice with greens. So I ordered it and paid $9.28. No problem. I get home open it up and I have no words, the first thing that came out was "this is $9.28!!!?" Literally, piece of bread toasted, avocado on top and some egg.... what??? Way overpriced! Gotta love their soups! I've been to the one in SF as well as Valley Fair Mall, but this is my favorite spot. There's a lot of parking and many spaces to sit inside, plus it's not overly packed like the other two places. The cleanliness of this place--as it can get busy--is probably why it continually attracts customers. I usually get the clam chowder or buttersquash soup. They're both rich, creamy, and flavorful. What I really like about their clam chowder is that it's fresh and the clams don't have that pungent "seafoody" kinda kick to it. It's served hot every single time which is key to a great soup (imo). I usually add two packets of butter to the chowder for extra flavor. Check out their amazing sandwhiches and salads as well. I always get good service here so that's rad. Boudin is somewhere I like to go on a cold and rainy day, or when I'm getting over a cold. Their soups are nice and hearty and always seem to fill me up. I'm a simple lady, so my go-to meal is a half bowl of tomato soup and half a bacon grilled cheese. With a drink included, this costs around ~$14 and this is without a drink. A pretty big price for the amountof food you actually receive. I'm guessing it's because of the quality of the food, and how the sourdough they use is fresh every day. All in all, this is a great place to go if you have some extra cash and wanna a good meal in a cute bakery style restaurant. Oh! I almost forgot- you definitely want to take advantage of the Boudin card, because you get free bread every month (small baguette, big ones are extra $), and $3 off every now and then.
