I should've checked the Yelp ratings before ordering some food for dinner here. The food at Boudin SF at Metro Pointe was just NOT good. Clam chowder in the sourdough bowl was just okay. The chowder was thick, creamy, and tasted kind of artificial. Definitely not fresh and something you can pick up in a can from the market. As for the roast beef au jus dip - It was so mediocre that I didn't even finish my half of the sandwich. The bread was not toasted, the cheese was not melted, and the roast beef wasn't well seasoned either. I could've thrown this together at home without much attention to taste and texture. Au jus was too salty too. I will not come back.

Have wanted to try this place for a few years and finally had a minute between shopping to grab a bite to eat. Ordered the pick-a-pair with the bacon led cheese sandwich -- soooo good! It was paired with their clam chowder soup, which was delicious. You can order the soup in a sourdough bowl, which I will try next time. Also ordered the tuna melt with broccoli cheese soup -- do you notice a cheese pattern here?! Both dishes were delicious! Also grabbed The Royals cookie with oatmeal, chocolate chunks and coconut -- yum! Staff was very pleasant-- they bring the order to your table. They also have an iPad kiosk to place your order if you want to skip the line. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and they share a parking lot with The Container Store and Nordstrom Rack, so it can be challenging during peak hours. Will definitely be back!

Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before seeing a show at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts across the way. I ordered a grilled cheese and tomato soup. It took a bit for the meal to come out, but it tasted good. I miss having a Boudin in San Diego and was excited to see it in Costa Mesa. Quick and easy meal before the show!

We loved the new look and menu items! It's much brighter and more open. I'm actually gluten-free and still found lots of good options. I love the new Protein Bowls. I had the Mediterranean bowl with chicken and it was awesome. Kids had pizza from kids meal. Everyone comes for the bread bowl soup and chili but FYI they have lots more on the menu!

I forgot how delicious this place is!! The bread is so fresh and crusty.. I split the warm pesto chicken sandwich and a side salad with a friend and it was the perfect amount. We also got a royale cookie that was deeeelish... a chocolate chip cookie with coconut and white chocolate chips...perfection! Everything was super fresh and super tasty! Service was great! Ambiance wasn't anything special...was quite crowded when we were there after lunch so it was bustling.

A day of shopping and I needed some comfort food at the end of a cold night. What a perfect combination of soup and salad. I really loved the Jim Cobb salad here with the large bits of real bacon, avocado and blue cheese. I probably did not need the bread bowl for the clam chowder but it's the original way to enjoy it. The combination special of choosing two of your favorites is a great choice. The service was quick and staff were really courteous. You may not be up in San Francisco, but you can have the meal from there here in Costa Mesa. This place is now a favorite on my list!

Asian Citrus Chicken Salad, Clam Chowder in bread bowl

Did a stop at Boudin in South Coast, and when it comes to sandwiches, soup, and salad, Boudin always does it for me. My all-time favorite is the Pick Two I usually get the clam chowder in a bread bowl and the Asian salad, but I also have to shout out the grilled cheese and tomato soup Pick Two because that combo is superior. They definitely changed the recipe for the Asian salad recently, but it still has the same essence as the old one just feels a bit more refreshed and modern. I love the sourdough here, although this time around the clam chowder leaned a little more potato-heavy than usual. With Boudin, the chowder can be hit or miss: when it's really good, it's really good, and when it's not, it kind of falls in the middle still okay. I also love their rewards program I always put in my phone number and actually get rewards. Every month you get a free sourdough, and sometimes a few dollars off your order, which is such a nice perk. The service has always been spectacular, and this spot is definitely a staple for us whenever we're out and about or just craving soup, salad, and a sandwich.

I'm a big sandwich guy and I was craving a fresh baked baguette sandwich on my way home last Wednesday, so I decided to stop by at Boudin SF. Now I am not too familiar with Boudin, I've had their soups before, but this is the first time I ordered a sandwich, and I was very disappointed. The baguette was so hard to bite into, this made the overall sandwich eating experience truly disappointing. The meat and toppings kept falling out every time I tried taking a bite, squeezing out a piece of that bread. After I was pretty much done my sandwich, I know there's other customers getting their sandwiches on baguette loaves rather than a baguette sub. I had no idea this was an option as this was not even offered to me at the counter when I ordered. And I known this I would've definitely chosen this option. I do like location of this restaurant, situated in a busy strip mall. The service was pretty fast, and while I can say, the sandwich was still tasty, the overall experience because of the baguette was not good at all. Sidenote, if you sign up for their rewards membership, every month, you get a free sourdough baguette to take home with at least a one dollar purchase that month. I definitely grabbed mine.

Came in, order and self seating, staff were friendly, restaurant/bistro was clean and bright. Sandwich bread was amazing crispy outside and super soft inside. Classic bread bowl with clam chowder. When we come to this area we try to stop by. Good meal for $15 and filling if you get the bread bowl.

Stopped in while son and friends were up the street. Was craving clam chowder so not a lot of options. Been here before and it's fine and pricing is about what you'd pay elsewhere for meal and drink. It's not amazing but flavorful enough and with the bread bowl, definitely filling. You can order from kiosk or at counter. Menu had a nice variety and some desserts I hadn't seen before. I'd come back in a cold day for soup here after shopping. Seating inside is basic and restaurant was fairly quiet.

Sourdough clam chowder is not too shabby. It isn't the best clam chowder, but the sourdough is fresh and tasty. Sandwiches are also great, and the fresh bread makes a difference. Service is friendly and they move quickly. Open environment with plenty of window seating to enjoy the passerby shoppers.

    Marc L.

Well we absolutely love Sourdough and when in Nor Cal Boudin is an obligatory must have. Reality So Cal isn't the same experience. Service was good pretty very rudimentary. Not RUDE at all. Just basic. I order via Kiosk take a number and out comes my meal delivered to the table. Sourdough bowl chowder is ok had large chunks and a tasty base. Bread was a little chewy. Salad again was Ok. Location is busy and could use a deep clean and some upgrades. After all it's OC so might need to step it up. Highly recommend the turkey cranberry sandwich.

9/2025 the best fries ever (street fries)
    Jen S.

I've been missing out! I thought this was just another "deli-style fast food place and definitely did not expect to enjoy it as much as I had on a recent visit. Very unexpected!!! And so delicious!! Their street fries is fantastic: so crispy, airy fries, it was served hot and savory with their toppings. Texture and flavors are definitely my favorite here. We also tried their crispy chicken sandwich and a pepperoni pizza. The peach shake was another sweet surprise and one I'd definitely revisit to enjoy before it leaves their menu for the season. But, back to that chicken sandwich. The slaw and jalapeños on the chicken sandwich was unique and added a very tasty flavor. The bread/bun was the perfect pillowy and chewy goodness to complement the chicken and slaw. Beyond happy with everything we had ordered. I'll actually be back sooner than later to try more of their menu: French dip; tuna melt; coup in a bread bowl too of course- and that strawberry shake too!

When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

Normally you order at the counter, but they saw that we had toddlers who were ready to get out of their strollers, so one of the staff members kindly came out to the back patio to take our orders and get us situated. Another server brought waters out for the table. It was such a small thing, but as a mom, I really appreciated how accommodating they were. The back patio is also really nice and shady, which was perfect for us. I had the breakfast sandwich on a croissant and added chicken sausage. I mean, if you have a bakery making croissants in-house, I HAVE to try the croissant. And it did not disappoint. It was flaky, buttery, and delicious, with a soft scramble that was cooked perfectly. The chicken sausage was also so tasty and fresh that I'm convinced it had to be made in house. My daughter had the brioche French toast from the kids' menu, and it was adorable -- cut into little squares and absolutely delicious. I'm pretty sure I ate most of it! My girlfriends had the breakfast burrito and egg plate, and for drinks we had to try some of the fun lattes. I got the banana bread latte, since banana is apparently having a major moment right now. It was a little less banana-forward than I expected, but the coffee itself was really good. My friends tried the cinnamon roll latte and chocolate chip cookie latte. The chocolate chip cookie latte had actual cookie crumbles on top, which I loved. It was a little warm inside, but honestly, it's a bakery, so I think the shady back patio is the move anyway. Overall, we had such a great experience. The food was fresh and delicious, the drinks were fun, and the staff went out of their way to make things easier for a table full of moms and toddlers. Even with the trek, I'd definitely come back!

There was a small handwritten sticky note with an individual's name and phone number for the Zelle payment, which felt a bit odd. To be fair, there wasn't a large selection available when we visited, so it's possible they have other pastries or desserts that are much better than what we tried. However, based on our experience, the item we purchased was disappointing, and the $12 definitely didn't feel well spent. On the positive side, the décor and overall aesthetic were lovely and were probably the bakery's strongest feature. But as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover... and you can't judge a bakery by its ambience either.

Everything is clean, beautifully organized, colorful, and incredibly fun. It's almost like Disneyland of Mexican markets! We loved sampling the tacos and exploring all the different food stalls. We picked up a whole roasted chicken with warm tortillas, salsa, and beans, which made the perfect family meal. Easy, delicious, and no one had to cook. That alone deserves applause. The entire market feels like a fiesta. There is vibrant fresh produce, option of authentic food in different stalls, and churros served hot from the fryer. We also grabbed some carne asada to grill at home to keep the party going! And then there is pretty impressive collection of tequila for the tequila lovers! Mercado González is more than a market. It is a full experience for the whole family, and we will absolutely be back. Come hungry and give yourself plenty of time to explore. Salud!

I've been shopping at this location for about a year and have been a customer of Northgate Markets for several years. Unfortunately, my experiences at this location have become increasingly disappointing. I've encountered raw chicken left on the shelf two or more days past its expiration date, fresh fruit and salsa still being sold after their use-by dates, and produce that was visibly rotten and infested with bugs. These aren't minor issues when it comes to a grocery store--they're basic food-safety and quality concerns. And then there's the customer service. Today, there wasn't a friendly employee in sight, and the customers weren't much better. I'd especially like to thank the grumpy woman on the scooter who apparently tried to run me down three separate times. I assume you were having a bad day, but judging by the atmosphere in this store, it seems like everyone is having a bad day, every day. No one smiles. No one acknowledges customers. No one seems remotely interested in providing even basic courtesy. I understand that people have bad days--I really do--but when the entire experience consistently feels cold, hostile, and unwelcoming, it becomes a pattern rather than an isolated bad day. The cashier couldn't be bothered to say hello back or even make the slightest attempt at being friendly, and the young man bagging my groceries was just as dismissive. I've spent years shopping with Northgate Markets, which makes this especially disappointing. Customers shouldn't walk into a store and feel like they're an inconvenience for simply being there. Today was the final straw for me. There are plenty of other places willing to take my money while treating me--and other customers--with basic courtesy and respect.

Hands down, the best donuts ever. No contest…read more I've been a customer since this shop opened in 2013 (I believe around this time). My cousin (who briefly worked there) brought my brother and I when we were 13 (me) and 15 (my brother). We got to eat donuts all day. One of my fondest memories with my cousin. Anyways, I've gone many times over the years and always recommend Sidecar to everyone I come across (if donuts come up in conversation). I went yesterday as well and my gosh, the quality has not changed! Sidecar always amazes me and whoever I bring. They live up to the "hype." In my book, they make the best product, period. Their huckleberry donut and choc-o-lot are absolute classics. Their seasonal pumpkin cinnamon roll donut was great as well. Their staff is always friendly and attentive. 10/10 recommend.

I usually prefer yeast doughnuts over cake doughnuts, but these doughnuts were not dry or heavy at all. I ended up ordering the Butter & Salt doughnut and an Americano with brown sugar sweetener and huckleberry cold foam, while my husband ordered a plain cold brew. We waited outside by the pick-up window after ordering. Service was fast for the doughnut and my coffee, but they seemed to forget about my husband's cold brew, so I had to ask about it after a few minutes of waiting. Not a big deal, just was surprised it took so long when it was such an easy order! We both enjoyed the buttery/salty doughnut, and my coffee was delightful! However, my husband said the cold brew was just okay and it was packed with ice to the point you couldn't stick the straw in the lid. Overall, our first experience at this location was good, and we'll definitely be back to try more of Sidecar's delicious doughnuts! Might pass on the cold brew though!
