Love coming to this bakery which is found inside the mitsuwa market place. It's in the back corner lot by the fridge area. Very small corner that serves bread and small delicacies. I get the whole wheat load of bread, the walnut danish and the strawberry cheesecake. Service is alright. Will have to get some of their attention but it's always hustling to get what we want. I was excited to try this place, but I am giving it 1 star due to customer service. The location is hard to find. It is inside the grocery store Mitsuwa Marketplace, not where the main food hall is. You have to go inside and to the right hand side near the snacks section. I ordered two pastries, but when I got home, I realized one of them was not what I wanted. The woman at the counter had given me the wrong item, and I did not notice until we got home that we had paid extra .25 cents for something we did not order. I went back the next day and explained the situation to the cashier. I simply wanted the plain cream cornet that I originally ordered the cream cornet $4.25 vs the green tea matcha cornet $4.50 which was more and not what we ordered. The cashier apologized and tried to help but needed assistance from the register. Another woman at the counter refused to help, even though the mistake was theirs. I've been a longtime customer and always loved the bread here. However, today I had a very unpleasant experience. The employee working there did not even get up to bring the bread after I ordered. She just stayed sitting at the counter and only handled the payment. After the transaction was finished, she finally picked up the bread. When I got home, I realized that although I was charged for three breads, only two were in the bag. If someone doesn't want to work, they should just stay home. I honestly don't understand why the owner keeps an employee like this. I still like this market and will continue visiting on weekends even though I live far away. But the bakery? Just came back from Japan and was already missing it. Walk around Mitsuwa and heard about this bakery inside for their coffee but decided to get an egg sando instead. It isn't the same as Japan since the crust is still on the sandwich and it isn't as creamy but it will do. Tuan sandwich is decent. I do want to come back to try their coffee tho! Love this Hamada-ya location for their Boston Cream and custard filled donuts. I can't not buy one or two of them whenever I am in the vicinity. It's probably an addiction of sorts. The not too sweet or dense but creamy custard is encased in a fresh fluffy dough. Never fails to put a smile on my face whenever I get to bite into one. It's best to keep them refrigerated and not keep them in room temperature setting. Even better if you can eat them the same day. Parking can be a challenge during busy hours at Mitsuwa as it's located within the same complex. It's not inside the food court side but instead, right by the prepared food section. My go to is usually the milk pudding, but the chocolate donut is also very good the chocolate tastes like real chocolate and not the chocolate that glazes regular American style donuts. The curry bun is delicious if you are looking for a savory treat. To think about it, I don't think I've ordered anything that I didn't like. The coffee jelly milk is also very satisfying and refreshing, but is on the sweet side. Parking is hard during peak hours. Seating is available in the main Mitsuwa food court area. I really want to try their sake bread since it's not common to find it within the state. BUT I fallen in love with their sourdough bread! The sourdough is wheat flour and it is nice and chewy. I love how it is thickly sliced, so the bread is not too hard when toasted. I would definitely go back for more of their sourdough. This is my favorite bakery! I love coming here for pastries (especially the savory ones like the curry donuts) and their breads (the sourdough is so good)! Amy and Amanda helped us on our visit on 8/1/24 and they were friendly and helpful despite it being so busy (there were two lines). They and their other coworker did an amazing job helping everyone out a little after noon. Admittedly, I was a little sad that I wasn't able to get my points for my purchase that day. I had asked about it and they said the points had already been added, but I'd checked and they hadn't. I understand that they were busy and needed to move customers along, but it is their loyalty rewards program. I think they have really great quality pastries, but I have noticed the price go up significantly (not just due to inflation). Their curry donuts are great, but I feel like they haven't changed other than the price. Years ago, they used to be $3.95 for a curry donut but the next time I came in, they were priced at $6.95 but they had only just added "wagyu" in front of the name. Nothing had changed from what I could tell and I think that's my only big complaint -- it just felt like a way to double the price. All in all, I think I just had some bad luck that day but honestly this bakery is a really great place to go for some tasty treats. I want to go back and try their mentai bread! This is a very small bakery located inside of Mitsuwa market, which was insanely hard to find parking for. The bakery has both savory and sweet options. I got the melon pan and crispy cream. The melon pan was good: no filling and the dough was soft, however I don't think it was anything special. The crispy cream had just the right amount of custard filling. Awesome bakery smack in the middle of a grocery store.. wild and unique haha. The place is literally inside the Mitsuwa Market and everybody were gathering on it like it's a spectacle. It is pretty famous amongst the local to get dessert and refreshments in here. This bakery shop is inside the mitsuwa grocery store along the wall next to their pre packed sushi and Japanese bento bowls. They're really fast, even though there was a small line. We ordered the coffee jelly milk and coffee jelly mocha, which was a novel drink for us. The milk drink was pure milk with huge chunks of coffee jelly. It wasn't a latte, I shouldn't expect to get caffeinated from that. The mocha drink was very chocolatey, but I also felt like it didn't have any caffeine. If you're looking for a strong drink, I would recommend coffee or something else! The drink also came with a complimentary two mochi nut pastries, which I thought had a nice chew but nevertheless was just decent. Finally, I also had a corn mayo bun, which was very creamy and savory. We decided to purchase the following: Aji Tama Egg Donut, $3.50- This "donut" was a bit of a disappointment. Inside the baked bread is a hard boiled egg. I was hoping the egg would have been mixed with some kind of cream or something to give it a creamy filling. But it was just a hard boiled egg inside a donut. The donut itself was baked perfectly and the flavors were good (not too sweet). But I wouldn't purchase this again. Crispy Cream, $3.50- We purchased 2 of these. This was the best baked good we had purchased. I liked that the cream inside was not oozing out (makes it less messy to eat) and had a nice balance of the cream and the pastry. This taste much better heated (which I microwaves before eating). Corn Mayonnaise, $3.95 prior to tax- I didn't like this pastry that much. I felt like the corn and mayonnaise filling was a little on the bland side. But the bread itself was good. Strawberry Formage, $3.95- The bread itself reminded me of a dinner roll, plain but a nice chew. Inside was whipped cream and a few chopped strawberries. I enjoyed the coffee jelly milk the most, and the apple custard cake was airy and fluffy. However, I wish the coffee was stronger. Also, I probably wouldn't recommend their tiramisu coffee, it tasted pretty artificial IMO. All in all, it's a nice little Japanese bakery. The pastries were slightly on the expensive side, but the quality was there. Drinks were relatively cheap. 3/24/2022 An & Fresh Cream Danish This pastry had red bean and fresh whipped cream with matcha powder dusted on top. Immediately, you get the Japanese matcha flavor, then the fresh whipped cream. You get the layers like a croissant, then the light, tangy cream cheese, vanilla custard with the strawberry coulis and sweet, fresh strawberries on top. EDIT: Still tastes amazing for 2 days in the refrigerator. So get more! :) Cream Puff The choux pastry was super dry and cracked as you bit into it. However, the cream inside was really good! There was fresh whipped cream and custard cream together. Nagomi Cake House does an amazing cream puff! Spicy Curry Donut The outer spices, think it was Shichimi Togarashi. I liked the spices on top of the donut. The donut was filled with spicy curry. It was spicy, so if you're getting it for breakfast, get ready for some heat! It had some vegetables in it too. Overall, mushy in texture and it was served cold from their bakery deli refrigerator, so it is served cold. Don't love it cold. I think room temperature or slightly warmed up would be better. Personally, it wasn't very good. Wouldn't recommend. Love Okayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe's Spicy Curry Pan. Soft Pudding ** Favorite! This was my favorite! Soft, jiggly, creamy vanilla flan-like texture with a buttery caramel on the bottom. Lightly sweet overall and it was gone just like that! Strawberry Au Lait (Seasonal drink) ** Must-Try! Fresh strawberry milk. It was lightly sweetened and you can see ground up strawberry bits and seeds on the bottom, however due to the added sugar, it did taste slightly superficial. The bakery is always bustling, especially on weekends. I wish you could just grab the bread and pay at Mitsuwa's checkout counter. There's no clear sign where you have to queue to pay. They usually only have 2 people behind the counter and then there are some customers who are really chatty or ask the workers a gazillion questions. Their raisin bread and soft French bread are really yummy. The pastries as well but I think the strawberry croissants are way too big and a tad too expensive. read more
