This is one of the better family friendly restaurants we visited while in the Poconos. We sat outside and were very happy with the ambiance of the patio. It's a mostly gated in patio next to a beautiful lake and the kids enjoyed the ample space. The food was all pretty good. We ordered the gazpacho, bisque, steak tacos, fried cauliflower, cauliflower steak, fries, and kids meals. We also got a few cocktails and beers, and were surprised that the martinis were *actual* martinis. We were generally happy with everything we ordered and would visit again. read more

So I was looking forward to trying this place for awhile. At least a year. In spite of the less than stellar reviews I've read . You see... I live in the Poconos. It's mostly tourists, with some locals. So, we don't have a ton of choices, and most are quite far of a drive. Well, a singer I love was going to be performing there, so, we went. We both got the chicken tacos from the appetizer menu. We both hated them. They were gross. They were slimy. You couldn't pick them up because they were so wet, they fell right apart. Mine was just huge chunks of chicken, not even diced or shredded well. A ton of chopped raw onion, and a tiny dab of a white sauce. (I forget what the menu called it) regardless, it was so hard to eat, and so not good. I had the banana martini, it was delicious but very overpriced. I went without a drink for the majority of the time I was eating as the bartender was spread too thin to give good service. I hate eating without a drink. The banana martini is banana rum, OJ, and pineapple juice. Not exactly a hard drink to make, and not an expensive drink to make. With no prices on the menu (which I hate) I ordered it. My husband guessed it would be like $13. I guessed no more than $10 (it shouldn't have been more than $8 at most) but it was $12. That's ridiculous, just because it is in a fancy glass. So... yeah. We had gross wet yucky tacos, and waited forever for another drink, and for two wet taco apps, 3 beers and a banana martini, with a tip, I can not BELIEVE that experience was $75!!!!!! That's bonkers. I enjoyed the music, the appearance of the bar was nice. I would go back but in the future will ask prices and will stay away from the tacos. read more

Drinks good, ambiance with lake view nice, but food mediocre at best. Disappointed with food quality and flavors. For example - ordered nachos. Cheese was this white, sticky sauce drenched over thick store bought chips. Jalapeños tasted like bell peppers and cut very thick. Veggies did not taste fresh. Overall not only were these nachos unauthentic, but they tasted like someone drunk threw it together in a few minutes. I think if this place invested in better menus, food, and training for their restaurant staff there could be a great opportunity for more five star reviews. read more

Went here with a group of friends and we all thought it was a solid option! I had the passion punch cocktail and thought it was delicious. Boulder View Tavern sits on Big Boulder Lake in full view of Big Boulder Ski Resort. That's a mouthful, really. We sat outside to enjoy the view. I'm sure this place jumps all year long. The food is decent. The inside is huge and can be used for large groups/weddings. It was nicely decorated with a slew of flora. I ordered a chowder and a Reuben with a cold brew. My boyfriend and I stopped by this tavern while visiting the area. We were drawn to it by their scenic views. The restaurant sits right on a beautiful lake. Our server was Troy; he was really nice. We got drinks, which were decent. I got the Italian chicken sandwich for my meal, and my boyfriend got the fish and chips. My sandwich was really flavorful. My only complaint is that the bun was drenched in grease to the point that it became so soggy. My boyfriend liked the fish he got. If you're in the area, this is a restaurant to go to at least once and please make sure you sit outside, that's about 80% of the reason to be here, the view is absolutely beautiful. I've been to Boulder view tavern twice. First time on a date on Friday night. We sat outside, downstairs part and very close to the lake. There was live music and perfect weather. Great ambiance. The service was great. The food is decent. For appetizer, I had their shrimp cocktail and for the entree I had their seafood burger. Both were decent. Second time I went, I met with a friend for lunch on Sunday. I ended up having a seafood citrus salad. Pretty decent food again. Service was great. The ambiance and service are excellent! Menu had lots of varying selections from $10 spring roll appetizer up to a $28 tiger shrimp Mediterranean scampi with orzo. Went here for dinner last night and have to agree with many of the reviews. The service was very good. Our server was Erica and she was lovely. The view was very nice. We sat at the window and had a nice view of the lake. The food was tasty for the most part but very overpriced. The clam chowder was nice and full of clams but $10 for a very small bowl. The steak special was market priced on the menu and unfortunately, we were not told the prices when we were told the choices first the evening and the ribeye was $55 when we got the bill. As mentioned in other reviews, the bar menu also did not have prices which is a little strange. We will probably return since there are so few choices and the view was very nice, but we will be more attentive to the prices. read more

Had higher hopes for this place, but should have believed the Yelp rating. Ordered the avocado bites to start and this was probably the highlight of the meal. Large chunks of fresh fried avocado was pretty good, with a thousand island type of sauce. It was a pretty hefty portion, so we took home about half (they also crisped up nicely in the air fryer for leftovers). Ordered a medium rare BBQ brisket burger and it was overcooked...not even a trace of pink. The brisket part was pretty rubbery, not tender at all. The accompanying fries were colder than my ice tea. Service was good as our server kept drinks flowing. Don't get sucked into the convenience of this place or the decent scenery overlooking the water. read more

I have been here on several occasions, but my recent visit for Valentine's Day was a very good experience. I made a reservation for 8 ppl, but the day of we had some cancellations-- and then additions, and the restaurant was very accommodating. On the crowded night, the service was still on par. The live band (which they have often) made for great background music, but did not overpower table conversation. I particularly enjoy restaurants with a lively vibe, and this place makes the cut. The food is your typical tavern food, however, it is very good, and not over simplified. This place didn't make a complete 5- stars because the lobster bisque, while good, was very thick, so thick that it turned into a gelatin within 5 minutes of hitting the table. That aside, I would recommend giving it a try! read more

I was told they do not take reservations so at 6pm on a Saturday we went to go eat. We were told next seating isn't until 9pm. The hostess was very confused because she asked if we made a reservations but their website says they do not take them. We were pleasantly surprised by Boulder View Tavern. The dining room is closed during the summer months, unless it rains. So outside we went. We had 4 adults, 2 children and an infant. The hostess was accommodating and allowed us to pick our table, and got us a high chair quickly. Drinks were very good, kids food came out quickly and I thought it was a good portion for the price. The adult's meals were fabulous. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 stars was that there were not many people working, and our drinks took awhile. That's not really the server's fault, but it did affect our time there. We will definitely go back the next time we're in Jim Thorpe! read more

We went to the Boulder View Tavern after our hike yesterday and it was an all around great experience. The hostess sat us at a big round table with a stunning view of the lake and our server, Troy, was very attentive. We got two soups which did not disappoint. The crab and lobster bisque was a creamy dream that satisfied our deepest desires. The french onion soup was compacted with flavor that could make a blind man see. Our entrees were equally impressive. I haven't stopped thinking about the cheesesteak since we left. The delectableness of the food here was comparable to the food seen in the classic film, Ratatouille. We will surely indulge again. read more

Nice location and our waitress was nice but service was slow because she was being stretched too thin. The food was bad. "Four cheese mac and cheese with panko bread crumbs and chives" came with a little sprinkle of bread crumbs and a little sprinkle of dried chives as a garnish. It really had no flavor at all and tasted like I was eating bare noodles. French onion soup was so salty I couldn't eat it. Chicken Caesar wrap had dry chicken and so little Caesar you couldn't even taste it. Everything was served on plastic plates. This place charges absurd prices for the quality of the food, and is really just a bar with bad bar food trying to pretend to be more. They should downsize the menu and work on making those dishes of better quality before expanding to include more food options. read more

They did a good job with taking and delivering our order but any follow up requests didn't happen. I had the Italian chicken sandwich and it was great. Great views of the lake and very good pub style food as well. The wait staff is friendly and professional. The kitchen has their act together because the food comes to the table hot and fast, even when busy. Nice pub/bar assortment of beers on tap and wines along with the standard cocktail mixers. Absolutely vile. On this day, my friends and I entered into the establishment with high hopes after an over 6 hour wait, mouths salivating for what would be a despicable excuse for American bar cuisine.Upon being seated, one of my friends noted that there was no music playing throughout the restaurant, which made for an odd and off putting vibe which put our party in an uneasy state. It only gets worse from here, buckle in. As soon as we entered, we were asked the question " I'm assuming everyone here is underage how many kids menus do we want?" This felt quite rude as we had not even gotten a chance to breathe, this was two seconds upon entry, and we were immediately taken aback. I grudgingly accepted the kids menu. After we sat down, I begin to examine the drink menu and finally settled on a mango margarita. when I gave my order to the server, he informed me that because everyone else sitting with me was under age that he could not serve me unless someone that was 25 years old, was also present at the table. I asked why that was and the bartender told us that it was because they were not able to babysit us because of how busy the restaurant was, and that we could be sneaking drinks to the under agers. Mind you the store had two parties in it, including us. She then climbed over the bar, and proceeded to start punching me in the face repeatedly for 20 minutes straight. She then walked away back to the bar, as if nothing happened. after collecting myself, a busboy soon arrived with our food. After receiving her vastly overpriced nacho palate, (17$) my friend immediately noticed something quite concerning and disturbing. There was a cockroach the size of my hand in her nachos, specifically on a piece of lettuce. Needless to say, she did not have much of an appetite after that. She politely asked the waiter to please take the food off of her bill and informed him of the mistake, and he proceeded to invite her to the back with him. A few moments later, we heard a round of gunshots. He shot our friend in the chest and we had to rush her to a hospital immediately! Absolutely ridiculous! The few of us that stayed back to pay the bill while our friend was being treated in the ICU agreed collectively to not give a tip, but upon receiving a bill, we saw that an automatic gratuity was added. The server, then came back and demanded that we finish the nachos before we left as it was a waste of food. I refused, reminding him of the bug incident, and he proceeded to shove the nachos down my throat, one by one. I was appalled at the unprofessional behavior, and after paying we left in a disappointed huff. To make matters worse, we were all meeting my grandmother in the parking lot and the waiter follow us out. He then proceeded to get inside his truck and run her over. What a terrible end to a horrible evening. we came in with high hopes for this restaurant, but we left quite literally bandaged and bruised-never again we wouldn't return to this joint, even if it was the only source of food left on the Earth.
