Our second trip to Split Rock and our second trip to Murphy's Loft. We haven't been here in two years's, our last visit to the Poconos with our friends. We walked into this wonderful rustic bar to a smiling hostess who brought us right to the table that part of our party was at. We just sat for a while and caught up prior to ordering. The is a very comfortable place to sit and talk. It's a lovely rustic vibe. The food is very good. There were eight of us and I think we all had different items ranging from a BLT to broiled salmon. I ordered my regular... Cheeseburger with Grilled onions with chedder provolone cheese. I read the other reviews and totally agree with R.M. that the fries were great... burger too. Been here twice - seems to be our meeting spot for our poconos trip. Excellent service every time and the food hits the spot! We haven't been here in awhile. The food is great! Husband got the French dip, clam chowder and a side salad. Salad was fresh and crisp, dip and chowder were hot and delicious. This was not good food. I tried the burger, daily soup, the flatbread, the "salad" with orange chicken, and the buffalo cauliflower. The flatbread was basically a cracker with vegetables thrown on top and some melted cheese. It felt something my 5 year old self would make in the microwave. The burger lacked any substance. Murphy's Loft was recommended by a friend, and from the outside, it just looks like a simple roadside bar nothing flashy. But once you step in, everything changes. The inside has a cozy, rustic charm with wood accents and a warm, inviting feel. The full circular bar in the center gives the place a lively, social vibe, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and full of character. We were a party of six and sat outside, but the service stood out right away. Our waitress (wish I remembered her name!) was one of the kindest, most genuine people I've ever met super helpful and sweet. We started with the appetizer sampler and drinks. I had a frozen banana cocktail refreshing and delicious. The French onion soup was perfectly portioned, packed with flavor, and just the right amount of cheesy goodness. My Reuben burger was juicy and flavorful, and my wife's Reuben sandwich was just as impressive. The rest of the table had sliced pork and fish & chips everyone loved their meals. Drinks were great, service was flawless, and the vibe was spot-on. Whether you're just passing through or live nearby, Murphy's Loft is a must visit. We stopped for lunch while driving across route 80. It's an unassuming log cabin-style place that has three rooms -- a bar, a "crystal room" with windows, and a dining room. Super nice people and surprisingly good food. The BLT had thick, smoky bacon. And excellent coffee. read more

Perfect place to stop in the Poconos! A great little lodge with tons of parking. I didn't know what to expect since it was my first time in the Poconos but this place was great. Our waitress was super friendly and the service was quick. The interior is very cool, lots of PA friendly findings. We went with the cheesesteak egg rolls which were jam packed and great. I went with the flounder as my entree with a side of rice pilaf which was a cooked perfectly. Super tasty and fresh. My boyfriend had the turkey dinner and he loved it too. Overall a great place to stop after a long drive. They have a pretty decent menu selection and a nice bar area. read more

On both visits the food was consistently excellent and service was very friendly, quick, and attentive! Thank you Tammy and Raven! Appetizers: Regular Buffalo Wings - perfect on first visit and slightly too dry second time Jalapeno Poppers - delicious! Mains: Super Steak Sandwich - delicious, perfectly done to order! Grilled Salmon - excellent, fresh and not too dry. Broiled Flounder - very good, fresh, and flavorful. The portion was unusually generous for a fish dish! I have been coming here for... let's just say a lot longer than I care to admit to. It's been a few decades. It's a nice little unassuming place just down the road from Pocono Raceway. The food is standard bar grub, and the fries I had on my last visit may have been the best I've ever had. I want to preface this by saying I am aware that we had a big group with no prior notice and we were prepared to wait until they could accommodate us, split the group up to make it easier, or go elsewhere if they could not accommodate us. Instead of politely explaining to us that we had to wait, the hostess and bartender were extremely rude and mean to us. Couldn't seem to give us a general wait time range and seemed extremely bothered that we were there and they had to do their jobs. It was not a busy saturday night, it was a random relatively slow tuesday evening. We waited an entire hour to get our food, which is fine I understand we were a big group, but we were ignored the entire time by our server. We were sat at around 7, and didn't get our food til 8:15 and the place closed at 9?? We watched entire families get sat, served, and paid before we got our food. Again likely due to our group size. I'm unsure if it was because of our group size or because we are younger in age but everyone there except for our waitress was so unnecessarily mean to us, we met them with nothing but kindness if not a little timidity. Our waitress was kind to us at the very least. We were not behaving like a bunch of loud kids the entire time. The bathroom is right there as soon as you walk in by the door where you wait to be sat. The smell radiating from this bathroom was so insane it made us lose our appetite which we gained back with the hour wait for our food. As for the ambiance of the actual restaurant, (this might just seem like complaining to complain), it had a log cabin vibe which is very cool but the chairs were so painfully uncomfortable to be sitting in for 2 straight hours. Checked out Murphy's Loft and it was a so-so experience. Upon arrival we stood awkwardly for awhile being ignored by waitstaff passing by. I do recognize they were busy but it seemed a little weird to not be acknowledged. However the interior was unique and had a great cabin feel. We ordered a harvest salad which was described as a romaine/spinach salad with almonds and cranberries for $9. It was the smallest salad and no cranberries were provided. There were pieces of slimy spinach (see pic). It was not worth it at all. We also ordered nachos which were just ok. The portion of sour cream and salsa were very small. The nachos arrived on a cute plate but tasted just ok. The sand which got a good review and the waffle fries were great. However it was not disclosed that the fries had an up charge. The waitstaff were pretty busy and no one really checked on us. My water was never refilled and we had to ask for silverware. I would give a solid 2.5 but rounding up to three because the waffle fries were very tasty. Knocking a star for the terrible salad and spotty service. Great place, nice folks, good food - at our wonderful server Joan's suggestion I tried the daily special homemade soup and added the vegetable flatbread - both were good! Used bleu cheese dip from the bites too on the flatbread, excellent recommendation by Joan! We also tried the crab cake sandwich which was tasty too. This was my third attempt to come to this establishment, given how close to home it is. Their outdoor smoking and non-smoking areas are a joke. If anyone is smoking in there, the whole place has to live with the smoke. In previous experiences we've had to deal with sub-par food at extremely slow speeds (cheesesteak sandwich took over and hour each time). This time my chicken parm sandwich was inedible. Rubber chicken, bland sauce that was barely existent and a lovely hair. As I drank my drink I noticed just how dirty it was... so gross to have eaten and drank from dirty dishes. Love this little gem on the weekends. Good people working the bar and great locals. We always eat at the bar. I can say wings are excellent but if you don't want a sweet sauce or the hot (it's the traditional buffalo sauce). The mild has honey in it. Hot dang! They have added breakfast to their weekend menu and it is spectacula. Crispy cubed, home fries with a bit of onion paired with tasty offerings. I had the extravagant eggs Benedict salmon Florentine. Great salmon and fresh spinach; it's a huge portion and who knew how good hollandaise sauce is with potatoes?! Had a wonderful lunch here back in July. We were a large party in the area renting an Airbnb for a week and this was our meeting spot before we went to the house. The food was wonderful, the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. The outdoor seating was perfect for the kids to get up and move around (we were the only ones outside). Bummer that the pool wasn't open, the kids would have loved that. Would definitely one back when we're in the area again. read more

Very disappointing experience. We went at 5 PM on a Friday. The bar was a little busy but the dining area was very slow. We were sat down to a dirty table. The amount of wine in the glass was absolutely comical for 11 dollars. My steak combo was supposed to come with 3 "large" shrimp. I received 6 baby frozen shrimp. My wife's chicken parm was breaded and on a bed an overcooked angel hair pasta. she did not even eat 1/2 the entree. I really hope this was not the usual for this establishment. We stopped in while returning from a hike. Server was polite and friendly. Food was good to Ok. We ordered onion soup - cheese needed to be crisper, a meatball parm sub - which was ok but the sauce was too chunky, and a burger - which was good. Had a few beers which were cold and they had a good variety. I'm going to try it again when I'm in the area and try some other menu options. We were on vacation and was told they had good food. So we figured let's try it!!! My husband got the pork roast and it was good, but could have used a little gravy or applesauce. I ordered the shrimp scampi!!! Haha!!! I asked for just garlic and oil only!!! Don't know what dill butter is, so didn't want to try it. Waitress said ok. When she brought out my scampi, it had a big patch of white goop on top of it, I thought it may have been cheese!! Oh no!! The cook put FLOUR on top of it!!! I have never ever heard of that!!! My girlfriends and I found Murphy's Loft in our quest to experience a restaurant with a mountain cabin type feel. In that regard, Murphy's really hit the mark. We got the feeling that it is a place that locals patronize, and made us feel like we were dining in a log cabin. We had just completed a hike and were starving like a bunch of Marvins. We ordered an appetizer sampler which was pretty great, albeit fried and wildly unhealthy. But I especially loved the jalapeño poppers. We also had soup with our meals which was a very delicious chicken corn chowder. I don't even know when I did this because I'm not much of a beef eater, maybe being up the mountains got the better of me. But we all ordered prime rib. I've never ordered it before in my life but I thought it was supposed to have a lot of juice involved. Mine (medium) did have a lot of juices but my friends who ordered theirs medium well was bone dry. We all agreed however that there wasn't much flavor to be had. I think it could have really benefitted from like a packet of French onion soup seasoning or something. I've never had prime rib so I don't have much to compare it to but my friend who has had it before agreed that the flavor was a bit lacking. What really got me though was the bathroom stench. The bathroom smelled of the strongest most potent urinal cake you've ever smelled in your life. If the smell was relegated to just the bathroom, it would have been bad enough. But it wasn't. While we were trying to eat we would catch a waft of urinal cake, and it kinda soured the whole experience for us. I would go back the next time I'm up the mountains, but I'd sit at the bar and order something a bit more simple than prime rib. read more

After a long day at the track, we were starving. Ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls and they came out piping hot. Pretty good with the marinara sauce. For my entree, I got the turkey stuffing and mashed potato dinner. Everything was covered in gravy, but really needed some S&P to get any flavor into it. The potatoes were meh, didn't eat most of it, but the turkey and stuffing was actually pretty good. Was in the neighborhood for a 3day getaway from NYC and omg am I glad I tried Murphys. Food was AMAZING! We had the 2 specials... a beef soup and creamy pasta and both were seriously to die for. Absolutely perfect place to go to if you'd like to wait an hour and a half for a cold stale appetizer in dead silence hearing the members of your party breathe - as you have to pay to listen to music. Really enjoyed the coked up elderly waitress/bartender/cook running past us as it provided some type of cooling fan in the vicinity. Table next to us may have had it even worse. Picked this place as a midway point for a friend of ours to meet us today. We haven't visited in over 1 year. Loved the decor and especially loved our waitress Brittany. All 3 of us started with a cup of their homemade clam chowder. Delicious! Then my husband had the french onion burger w/fries, I had a Reuben sandwich with chips and your friends had the sesame chicken salad. All 3 of us raved about your meals.
