    Cream puff, tiramisu, Cannoli

I don't remember seeing prices in the glass displays. A few items on the counters had prices. Definitely mom-and-pop looking inside with items displayed everywhere, a bit chaotic. Most of the items were just ok or too sweet for me. Nothing stood out but it was super busy.

We came here all the way from Utah and it just does not disappoint!! Everything we tried was just SO wonderful!! My favorite was the Boston Cream Pie! The cannoli's were amazing! Service was great! We went back twice! Wish we lived closer - but for the scale's sake it's best that we don't!

Stopped by Bova's Bakery late at night since it's open 24 hours and has a lot of hype around it. The selection is really big, which makes it nice for grabbing something sweet at any time. I tried a couple items and overall thought they were good, just not very sweet compared to what I was expecting. Everything felt fresh, just a bit more subtle in flavor than I personally prefer. Overall, a solid spot and convenient option in the North End, especially late at night. I'd stop by again if I was in the area.

There's a reason this bakery has been around 100 years! Forget the other two and head off the beaten path for the original! The Boston Cream Pie is delicious too! Small footprint and there can be a crazy line but it's worth the wait!

The tiramisu!! The cherry on top was delectable. It added a great flavor. Love and live moves quick. Accepts Apple Pay. Pizza also looked good. People working there were very nice.

Such a great selection of pastries. I found my Boston Cream Pie there. It was surprisingly light. We had a very short wait. Lots of staff to help. Skip Mike's pastries and go here!

Rating only for the lobster roll! Bova's is the 7-11 of Italian bakeries in the North end, it's open 24 hours! It has such an old school mom & pop shop vibe, and an endless array of desserts in the case. They all looked amazing. My friend ordered a lobster roll for us to try. Unfortunately it wasn't something I enjoyed. I didn't like the cream inside and the pastry itself was bland. However with so many other delicious looking pastries and cakes available I'm sure that something would've been better suited to my tastebuds. Next time!

Cash only! So many delicious items to choose from. 24/7 which is so cool and they offer late night bites too. This place has existed for years and family owned; BEST CANNOLI EVER. Can't go wrong with the original cannoli, the coffee one was yummy as well. Get their coconut cake because wow! Staff was friendly too and quick.

My wife was waiting in line at Bova's while I was getting subs at Monica's, next door. She said the line moved a lot quicker than imagined and she had the pastires before I had the sandwiches, despite there being no line at Monica's. Honestly, everything that my wife picked out was a big hit with the family! And we would recommend this to anybody visiting the North End!

Salted Caramel Cannoli, Nutella Cannoli, Creme Brulee Cannoli, and Chocolate Chip Cannoli

Bova's bakery is exactly what I pictured a longstanding, family-owned Italian bakery to be like. Even during a snow storm it was open and jam-packed with so many desserts to choose from. I got the salted caramel, Nutella, crème brûlée, and chocolate chip cannolis to try. My favorite was the chocolate chip. The cannoli fillings were decadent, silky, and creamy. The pastry shell had the perfect crunch, while not falling apart the second you take a bite. I wish I could've tried more of their treats!

OMG--my colleagues and I were in Boston for a conference, and while wandering around after dinner, we stumbled upon this bakery and had to stop in. There was a long line (always a good sign), and even though we were originally looking for Mike's, this place caught our eye. We came for the cannolis and tried a few: salted caramel chocolate, pistachio, classic, and mocha. Every single one was delicious! What we loved most was that they weren't overly sweet--something that can easily ruin a cannoli. These were light, perfectly flavored, and had just the right amount of sweetness that kept you going back for more. We took our box back to the hotel to share and do a little taste test. We had planned to compare them to Mike's, but a blizzard rolled into town and we never made it there. That said, we did compare them to cannolis from our hotel, and hands-down, these were 1000% better. I can't say if they're the best in all of Boston, but they were absolutely the best cannolis we've ever had. Totally worth the wait in line--we were that determined to try them, and they did not disappoint. Highly recommend!

OMG. The friendliest people ever here just stopped in to get my sister a last-minute birthday pastry, and they were so accommodating. They even gave me a candle. this overall just made my day being in the store. The vibe here is so fun, you can tell everybody appreciates and is happy to work here. Overall, I will be recommending this much more to my coworkers that visit Boston.

    Lobster Tail
    Ying X.

This Italian bakery celebrating its centennial this year! I randomly visited on Wednesday evening and just walked in; later, a friend said there's always a long queue... Lobster Tail: Their signature item, actually a cream-filled croissant. The bread was crisp but a bit hard, but the cream wasn't surprisingly sweet! A pleasant surprise! Creme Brulee: So delicious it brought tears to my eyes lol! Extremely delicate and silky yet still slightly springy, with an incredibly rich egg and milk flavor, and a gentle vanilla aroma. A bit unexpected was that the caramel was the kind of syrup used in crème caramel. But I don't really like the caramel coating of the original that may stick on teeth, so it's fine! It's a plus! I brought the same items for my roommates, and they both thought they were delicious too

    Cannoli - so many flavors!

My guess is that this is more of an evening destination where people come for cocktails and the atmosphere rather than lunch. We ordered a Diet Coke, the Scampi appetizer, Carbonara, and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. The scampi was easily the best part of the meal. It was flavorful, cooked well, and made for a nice appetizer to start things off. Unfortunately, the pastas didn't quite meet expectations, especially considering the price. The Rigatoni Alla Vodka was $28, but the pasta wasn't cooked al dente and felt overdone. The Carbonara, also $28, was disappointing as the eggs had curdled and the dish ended up being much oilier than I expected. At $18, the scampi was enjoyable, but overall I don't think the food justified the price point. One bright spot was the service. Our waitress was incredibly kind, checked in on us frequently, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a very aesthetic design. I can definitely see why it's popular on social media. There is also outdoor seating, which I imagine would be a nice option on a warm summer evening. One thing I did notice, though, is how closely the tables are spaced together. Since the restaurant was mostly empty during our visit it wasn't an issue, but I could see it feeling crowded and fairly loud once the dining room fills up. I was honestly surprised by the meal because Gigi is part of the Mazi Restaurant Group, and I've really enjoyed some of their other concepts, especially Kava Neo-Taverna. Based on this experience, though, I think there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Boston that offer better food and better value for the same price. Overall, I'd give Gigi 3/5 stars. The service and atmosphere were both strong, but the food didn't live up to the pricing. If I came back, it would probably be for drinks, appetizers, and the ambiance rather than a full Italian dinner.

As it turns out, they had plenty of open tables and I opted to sit outside on a whim since it was sunny and gorgeous out. I ordered the Clelia's Penne and a glass of the Hess Chardonnay. The chicken was browned beautifully, pasta was cooked perfectly, the micro greens and squash also brightened up the dish. And when ordering this, it doesn't hurt to top it with some more cheese! Don't be fooled by size of the serving plate, the look is light & delicate - but I was seriously stuffed after this lunch special. I had just enough room for a light dessert. So I asked for a single scoop of the mango gelato. I saw people a few tables down getting as many as 3 scoops, perhaps I'll follow suit the next time I'm visiting Boston. I came for lunch, but if I'm ever in the area again - I'd seriously consider ordering their truffle ravioli for dinner.

The bread had large air pockets, visibly soft, with a rich aroma of salt and milk; the olive oil was smooth and mellow, with a full-bodied fragrance, and the aftertaste even included a subtle, restrained hint of tea. Even knowing it's a calorie bomb, I couldn't resist dipping it in more. Baccala Mantecato: Classic Venetian flavor. The salted cod was tender and delicate, almost like a light foam, somewhere between raw silk and mousse; the dark bread was simple yet not coarse, perfectly balancing the saltiness of the cod. The most surprising thing was the refreshing aroma of celery leaves that emerged in the aftertaste, lingering and persistent. Lumache: When looking at the menu, seeing "chili butter, Jonah crab, breadcrumb," I never expected such a distinct citric acidity. The subtle acidity was gently enveloped in the fatty aroma of chili butter, perfectly complementing the umami and sweetness of the crab meat with just the right amount of spiciness. The lumache were firm and chewy, the sauce rich and smooth, and the breadcrumbs light and crisp, creating a rich and distinct texture. The portion was generous; even after microwaved the next day, the sauce had naturally broken down and the lemon's tartness had dissipated, but the noodles mixed with chili oil still had a unique flavor. Tiramisu: Highly renowned, and the staff were quite confident. The surface was covered with a thick layer of crispy cocoa nibs, the cake itself is incredibly soft and moist, and digging inside reveals an "underground river" of coffee liquid, while its bitterness was perfectly balanced by the sweet Marsala. The overall flavor was sweet and mellow, less bitter than typical tiramisu, with more layers of complexity. Actually, I was hoping for a slightly bitter version. Even on a weekday, it was packed with customers; by 5:10 PM, only one bar seat was left. Reservations are highly recommended. However, the bar was in a good location, with the bartenders being the easiest servers to find. It was a pleasant conversation with them.

The service is so friendly and seamless which in itself makes for a lovely evening. Highlights were the mussels, which were very fresh and delicious. The service here was attentive with the waiters offering more bread for the mussels. Most dishes are a little spicy, so if you don't like spice, make sure to note that with the waiter. The miso gelato is one of the most delicious savory/sweet desserts, and has lots of nice crunchy accents of the sesame crumble. Cocktails are fabulous, very smooth, as well as the mocktails. Cons: The crostini was nothing really special, and one of them came without the oyster butter. The meatballs, which were tasty but had a slightly hard texture on the outside. The prawn risotto was pretty one-note in flavor, and the prawn heads tasted overcooked and slightly off. The radiatore was spicy and nicely plated. The Cremoso al Cioccolato had a strange flavor profile that didn't quite fit, and had such a large salted chocolate-truffle section that we did not finish it (which is saying something)! Overall, if you are looking for a solid dinner in Boston that will guarantee be a nice experience because of the atmosphere, this is a good place.
