Been coming here for years, probably 20+ years as I recall when I used to come to Boston for work training, I would get off the plane and go right to the north end for a great Italian meal, and some cookies/pastries. Recent trip we ended up in the north end on day 1, and the last day....the last day was a bit unplanned but allowed us to bring some cookies back home (and actually brought more for a gift). We were in the store xmas eve and it was packed! I just think they are the best. We passed by in the evening, and the line was wrapped around the corner, but we returned earlier the next morning, and there were only a few people in line. Overall this is worth a stop if you're in the Boston area. The place is smaller and stays busy. The price is high, especially compared to other bakeries. However, it's similar to other bakeries in the area. A canolli is $8 and a big one $12. A slice of cheesecake or lemon pie is $6. The canolli is the one that I can highly recommend. It's extremely tasty. The cheesecake and lemon pie were honestly nothing special. It just seemed like something to add to the extensively huge menu. Don't be deterred by the line. It moves surprisingly fast. We were half way around the corner, but from standing in line to finishing our first cannoli, it was a total of 30 minutes. Came here on a recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. This might actually be my new favorite cannoli that i will dream about until the next time I'm back. It's a light crunchy shell with a full flavor cannoli. We had the creme brulee and original and both were amazing. I got my cannoli kick without the usual cannoli heavy feeling. Great service, line moves fast. This bakery reminds me of an old-fashioned deli from the 1950s. It was very cute clean and organized. I ordered the crème brûlée cannoli and it was very good to me. They even have savory options like ham & cheese croissants, calzones, pizza slices and arancini (rice balls). The amount of treats they have is outstanding! No doubt, this is the best bakery in all of North End, let alone Boston! Don't let the line scare you, the staff moves super quick in here. My girlfriend and I ordered the chocolate covered cannoli and s'mores brownie to split. The cannoli was one of the best I have had in my entire life. The ricotta was so fresh, and it seemed like they just filled it a few minutes before I walked in. The dark chocolate was incredibly rich and was a great compliment to the cannoli. The s'mores brownie was so unique and such a good mix of two of my favorite desserts. The brownie was more on the cakey side (I prefer fudgey brownies) but still very good nonetheless. The marshmallow's were a bit toasty and there was a nice piece of chocolate between the brownie and the graham cracker. The graham cracker was softened which added to the experience. I had such a hard time deciding what to get - next time I want to try the eclairs, the chocolate peanut butter bomb, or one of their cupcakes. Bova's, you have my heart! read more

I've been to Boston many times to visit but usually go to Mike's or Modern Pastry. This was my 1st time going to Bova's and they now have a lifelong customer! The inside is a well-established and beloved spot in Boston. The ambiance is all a buzz as everyone in line is so excited to order. The staff were friendly and helpful when helping me to choose what I wanted. I wasn't being rushed at all despite the copious amounts of people inside. I was pleasantly surprised that they had Bismarcks. My grandmother always used to get them when we had family dinners at her house and where I'm from, the bakery that sold them closed around the time she died. Wait, how have I not written a review for Bova?!?! This place is incredible!! And they're open 24 Hours.....yes, 24 Hours! They're located in Boston's North End, and have been in business since 1932 (or 1926 per below article). My cousin Martin introduced me to Bova during a trip to MA (thanks, Martin!), and life will never be the same again. lol Two words: Florentine Cannolis!! Get these!! They're a MUST, and Bova is famously known for them. They're about $10 each but they're huge and totally worth it! The first time I tried a Florentine Cannolis, I thought they were too big and shared it. Big Mistake!!! Huge!!! Hahaha. Don't share. You can thank me later. :-P Yeah, Boston also has Mike's Pastries and Modern Pastry Shop but they cannot compete with Bova's Florentine Cannolis. Bova offers a huge variety of Cannolis and other pastries, as well as hot food but their Florentine Cannolis really are the Best! We can't get these here in NY! A super popular spot. We waited in the line outside for a few minutes to enjoy the view of fantastic display of pastries of all types. The main reason for the visit were the reviews. As we stood in the line to order, I noticed one employee counting cash in gloves and then immediately proceeding to pick a few cannoli for customers. Another employee put on gloves to pack cannoli with filling; he received a call using the same new glove, and then leaned with his bare elbow on the parchment paper liner for the final product. This was unpleasant. I proceeded to look around and noticed filthy floors, and several dirty display boxes full of crumbs at the sliding doors that have been sitting there for a while. Where is the health inspector when you need one? We could not bear to order anything afterwards. We left despite great urge to enjoy the wonderfully looking cannoli. read more

Who wouldn't love a late night cannoli! During a girl's trip to Boston, we stayed very close to North End. Our friend in Boston took us here. We actually visited twice: once after a late night out at the bars, and another as a last stop before our flight home. I love that this place is open 24/7, it's a perfect stop after a night out. They have cannolis and a TON of other desserts and sweet treats. I saw they even had calzones for a savory snack. Some cannoli flavors we tried were nutella, peanut butter, chocolate chip, and salted caramel. I think my favorite was salted caramel because the shell had a chocolate coating. I was cynical about this place since it had a long line Saturday at 10pm and I expected a fad place with disappointing Italian pastries. Sadly my cynacism was misplaced and the pastries here were excellent, on par with what I had in Naples Italy. The chocolate eclair was excellent and the sfogliatella was on par with the best I've had though I do prefer chocolate sfogliatellas which I've only found in Naples. The place is filled with pastries and customers so it is a bit crowded and you feel like cattle ordering but the quality of the goods makes it worth it. I did get a chicken parm here thinking it might be high quality too but it was pretty standard and boring so the park gets 3 stars. Probably the worst cheesecake Ive ever had, cheesecake Ive had at a gas station was better. I've been here multiple times and every thing is just pretty okay or not worth finishing. We visited the place twice where my wife and I tried a Boston cream donut, a small Whoopie pie, a Florentine cannoli, and a strawberry shortcake cup. They were all delicious! The cream in the donut was perfect, and the whipped cream in the whoopie pie and strawberry shortcake was just the right amount of sweet and the perfect consistency. You can see why it's been there for so long as they have sweets down perfectly. Next time we'll have to try some of their savory items. read more

I'm torn on giving this place 4 stars, read on to find out why. As I left Parziale's, I walk to the corner, and boom, Bova's is in my face. I had been to Bova's years ago, and did not realize how close I was. So, clearly I walked in. It wasn't that busy as it was an off time at around 345pm, so well after lunch, and before people getting off of work. The family inside were ordering a bunch of things, cool, great, then i'm the only other person in the store for a few moments, with at least 5 employees behind the counter. I peruse the cases, as I just left Bova's with cookies and cannoli, that i'm unsure how much I want to get. 2-3 minutes pass, and i'm ready, i've decided. As I walk closer to the counter to wait on being helped, more customers walk in, a party of 2, a family of 4, and a someone who seemed to be on their own like me. Immediately the employees behind the counter ask all of those parties if they need help, after no one even acknowledged me. Ok, not end of the world. They get helped first, whatever, i'm not in a rush, I can wait, and did waste 2-3 minutes looking around. Standing in the same spot, people are moving around me, i slide back and forth a little so people can see the case better, but basically stay in the same spot by the register/scale. After everyone else has funneled out, no one has still acknowledged me. Ok, at this point, I do not NEED anything, so I start to walk to the door, and someone finally acknowledges me by saying "where you going?" Huh? Leaving, because of what happened. Whatever, I give them benefit of the doubt, and order my cookies, pay (which, i'd like to point out, feel like the prices were a little made up, as i looked around and saw zero signage about pricing, but maybe i missed it ), and leave. Now this is what makes me still give 4 stars, the cookies and pastries are very darn good....
