I shot archery as a kid, some 35 years ago. I went to the Bow N Arrow Shop with a friend mostly just to look into archery, and see if it was something I'd be interested in again. Immediately upon walking in the door, Bruce Marshall, the owner greets my friend and I like we were lifelong customers. I tell him my story, that I shot before, and was just curious if I'd still be interested in it. He measures me, and then starts pulling bows off the rack, and setting them up to my specs. Over the course of 2 hours, I think I shot 5 different bows, all just to see if I wanted to shoot again. At no time was there ever any mention of buying anything. Bruce just wanted me to try stuff, and see if it was fun. I asked him the money questions, and he showed me (and I shot) bows ranging from $400, all the way up to his own personal $2500 target bow, so I could see and feel differences in what money gets me. So after all of this, I decide to buy a bow and start shooting again, and I kid you not, his answer was, "Oh.. you want to buy one today?" Yeah.. He spends 2 hours with me, shooting all kinds of things, trying different releases, different bows, etc. for no other reason that to see if I like it. I ask a question about a product, and he opens it up, mounts it on the bow, and has me shoot it, so I can FEEL what a difference it makes in the bow. He wasn't trying to shove a product down my throat. He wasn't trying extract money from me. He just wanted to impart his love of the sport to someone else and see if I shared in the fun. Tell me what kind of business does this anymore? So.. to sum up, I don't think you'll find a better ambassador of the sport anywhere. Bruce and his staff are extremely knowledgable. They shoot what they sell. Most importantly, they are 100% committed to ensuring you buy the RIGHT thing, and have fun with archery, over simply moving product out the door. They make you feel like a part of the family, and the store is as much a place to hang out and BS with like-minded people as it is a retail establishment. They want to make sure you're still enjoying your bow long after the sale. Are there places you can buy stuff cheaper? These guys have lots of experience and patience in giving you exactly what you need! They will take the time to help you out with all your beginner questions and even teach you better technique. They know what they are talking about and aren't sleezy trying to rip you off. They are pretty far away from me. But worth the drive for THE BEST BOW SHOP IN SAN DIEGO! Was referred to this shop by another archery shop. Went in to have my bow repaired after it was accidentally derailed. These guys did an awesome job not only repairing the bow at a decent price and timeframe (had to have both the upper and lower limbs replaced as a result of the cams flying through them during the derailment), but they also installed my peep sight for free AND even helped me set the sights. Excellent customer service, and the guys are pleasant to talk to. I highly recommend this shop. I will be a returning customer (hopefully not for the same reason though!). And even if you don't like people, you can always hang out with one of the dogs in the shop :) read more

I'll go into a couple details but first off, AMAZING! To let you all know just what my friend thought about this shop, we drove 6 hours just to visit them and have the new bow tuned. All parts of the experience were terrific. In fact the customer service was so great I couldn't so talking about it for hours after we left. The owner remembered by friend and took a few seconds to thank us for coming in even though he was obviously very busy. I watched him do this with almost everyone that came in.. really cool. The shop is smaller, like most bow shops tend to be, but even with lots of people there (Saturday afternoon) it didn't give you the feeling of being claustrophobic and you were still able to move around. They even had a few stools so you could sit which was nice. The staff was great. Plenty of staff there to help everyone out pretty quickly. Even with a short wait, I was pleased. This was one of the first shops where I didn't feel like I got a guilt trip if what I wanted differed from what the shop usually did. They were there to service the customer, and with a great attitude! The range is only about 5 yards or so, so it really isn't for practice, but a great spot to get the bow finely tuned and pick up some key points on your form from the experts at the shop. Though we may be from Bakersfield, this won't be the last time I make a stop here. Well worth the travel time! read more

Made an appointment to tune my bow. Ernest (Bow N Arrow Shop Staff), serviced my bow and was incredibly meticulous. While, he did sell me on a new release, he explained how they like to teach archers proper release techniques (I was using a trigger style, like a rifle - what I'm used to - vs using a similar release but treating it like a back tension release). It took some time to get used to, but it really helped increase my consistency. I asked about some "more expensive" releases, and he was very forthcoming why this less expensive model was better for my style of shooting (hunting). read more

Great shop, the employees are attentive and knowledgeable in their craft. When you come into the shop they ensure you get set up with what you are looking for and always have recommendations. Even when testing your equipment out they give you pointers on your shooting instead of just letting you loose. So glad I came into the Bow n Arrow shop today. I've had my compound bow for about a year now and recently started getting a little more serious about it. I wasn't happy with the people previously working on my bow so I got a referral here. I walked into the shop and was greeted by one of the regular guys in the shop. What brought me to this shop was Bruces' video on his website. I thought he is passionate about his craft. Man was I right. I originally came in a week prior looking for arrows. Bruce introduced himself right off the bat. Told me that he was more than willing to sell me arrows but he highly recommend that I bring my bow in. Today I went into this place to buy a friend a bow. I once shot a bow as a younger kid but now I'm 35 so I didn't know much about todays technology. Going to this place and purchasing a bow vs most places you buy a bow and walk out. Not here Bruce is the man. He really puts his heart and soul into this place. He told my friend to come back and have his bow sized to his arm length and all. So I drove off about two blocks turned around and bought my self a bow. The guys here don't pressure you to buy anything they take time to explain stuff to you where others act arrogant because you don't know anything. As a female, with no friends or family that shoot bows or hunt, I was pretty intimidated walking into a shop like this. When I finally got the courage to go in, I was greeted right away and my fears melted away. I came in here last summer (August 2016), not knowing much, but I had/have a goal to one day bow hunt. Nick was so helpful getting me all set up with a custom fitted bow. Afterwards he taught me how to shoot it on their short indoor range. I was sent home and told to practice and come back next week. When I came back, Bruce worked with me on my form and taught me a few more things. Each time I come into the shop, no matter who works with me, I always learn something new. The guys here are all great, friendly and personable. I've since been into other archery shops, out of curiosity, and I was never greeted or treated like I could possibly be an archer. Little did they know, I've been placing Top 3 in every archery competition I've participated in (And all thanks to Bow N Arrow shop!). I've upgraded every part on my bow now, and the next step is for me to upgrade the whole bow. I wouldn't even imagine buying from any other shop. I wish I could give them more than 5 starts. What a great place. I brought in a bow that needed some adjustment, the guys took Care of it without a hitch. Unbelievable customer service and attention to detail. I first went in a while ago with a used bow I purchased. I had thought maybe they would try to persuade me into buying new or talk me down off my excitement since I was just getting into the sport. Nope, they took me in, dialed in the bow, dialed me in and got me shooting straight. Never tried to be pushy with upgrades or sales. Never talked down to me or had a smug attitude since I was green. Fast fwd a bit later and I decided to purchase a brand new bow from them. Once again, not pushy and no pressure. They recommended Bowtech but didn't throw it in my face. They had me try about 8 or 9 different bows from several manufacturers until I found the one that seemed perfect. Just happened to be a Bowtech Experience. New, sight, new everything. I will not go anywhere else. You feel like you are a part of the shop or a club when you go there. In these times, customer service and personalized attention are hard to come by. A couple of weeks ago I stopped by to check the shop out, picked up a Flemish string for my bow. I didn't have my bow with me at the time and being new to archery Jim offered to tune up my bow and give me a couple of pointers on shooting any Saturday. I stopped by this last Saturday, the shop was full of customers and Jim still managed to spend a solid hour with me setting my gear up and teaching me the basics. I hadn't shot a bow in a little over a year and a half, and I decided that for my birthday I was going to shoot again. Right away when you enter the bow and arrow shop you can already tell the friendly, welcoming feel of the place. I looked around and found a bear archery compound bow (which not to mention was camo) I really liked it but Bruce suggested the carbon rose compound bow, I have to admit at first I wasn't too excited about the black and purple color that it is, but Bruce took me outside and showed me the difference between a black bow and a camo bow at night, I would have never guessed black bows are better for hunting. Once I was sold on the bow, Bruce took me into the indoor archery range they have at the shop and he spent time working with me and teaching me the proper stance, he taught me back tension, and just about every other thing a great archer should know. Once I was all up to the know on everything he measured my draw strength, fixed my peeps, sights and everything else on the bow. He suggested that I come back once or twice a week to make sure I hadn't developed any bad habits, and so he could teach me more about the sport and how I should shoot and how I should do everything when I'm actually on a hunt. I came back at least once a week for awhile and he taught me a lot, I picked up a lot of useful skills and techniques. Unfortunately, I stopped coming after awhile for just about a month, due to injury's that were unrelated. Bruce was telling me that while I was gone I had developed target panic, but he didn't give up and he never once told me he couldn't work with me, he worked with me as he could and he told me I could get back to where I was no doubt about it. So I have gotten a lot better and I am almost completely back to normal, because of the extra time that Bruce spent with me trying to bring me back to where I was. Everyone in the bow shop is like family, and they do there best to make you feel as much of a part of it as they can, I know I do, and I wouldn't take my business anywhere else. read more

Go Here! Picked up my first bow last week. Walked in knowing nothing, met Jim, and got an education. After a quick history lesson on bows, he asked my price range and showed me some equipment. He also showed me one grade above and one below, just so I would know the differences. Picked my equipment and another guy (sorry, didn't get your name) adjusted the draw length and weight to my size. He even customized the arrow lengths to perfection. Bruce then gave me a quick lesson and had me shoot several arrows in their target room while (the other guy :-) continued to tweak the settings. Did I mention GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE? All said and done, they insisted I return for some (no charge) follow up sessions where they'll check my technique, settings, etc. Phenomenal! read more

First time in yesterday - bought an old compound bow from my friend and wanted to get it checked out, sight adjusted, grab some bowstring wax, etc. We were greeted right away, and so was everyone else who walked in. It was much busier than I expected! Still, we never for a moment felt rushed or pressured. Dave was patient and informative, and had me shoot a bunch of times so he could adjust the sight. He also noticed that the draw on the junior bow wasn't long enough for my arms, and he tried to lengthen it (turned out to not be possible - that's okay - it's good to know!). He showed me how my arrows were far too long, and cut some new ones down for me. Also explained how to properly apply the bowstring wax, and warned me not to accidentally burn my fingers doing it! Everyone in the store was friendly, even the other customers. The whole place had a great vibe. I don't know why so many reviews talk about the expense - it's a somewhat pricey sport/hobby, and this shop seemed like a steal to me! These guys are the best. I rarely feel compelled to write reviews on here but the bow n arrow shop in lakeside is not just the best bow shop I've been to but one of the best small businesses in general. Friendly staff, super efficient, extremely knowledgeable, and competitive prices, you can't ask for more. It's easy to tell these guys have a passion for what they do and they take pride in their work. I went in there today on my lunch break to get my bow fixed. The store was a kind of crowded so I was a little nervous I wouldn't have enough time to get back to work before my lunch was over. I didn't even need to mention I was in a time crunch- they had me in and out of there in no time, cost me far less than I ever imagined, talked briefly about hunting spots and I left with a smile on my face. Thank you Bow N' Arrow Shop! When I brought in my new bow from another major retailer (who's name will remain unknown), I was impressed with the knowledge that they have regarding recommendations. I was sold a bow that was missing vital components to operate it safely. Such components could have resulted in premature wear of certain parts, that could have caused a catastrophe. Nevertheless, the staff corrected the issues, and I walked out very pleased with the work performed on my bow and arrows. I actually went back to the retail store that day and spoke with the the manager of the store and explained the situation. They immediately provided me with the parts that were missing from the original purchase, AND compensated me with some additional accessories for my trouble. So my husband and I decided that we wanted to get into target shooting. We initially went to the another store that sells bows, but their customer service was so bad we were questioning on whether we even wanted to do this sport or not. So my husband heard about this shop from a friend and I went here looking for something for him. Immediately when I walked in I was greeted, I explained what I was looking for and it was found right away for me. These people here are EXTREMELY helpful with anything you need!!! They seriously treat you like family to the point where sometimes my husband and I just go there to hang out and talk. My husband ordered me a bow and when it arrived Bruce helped me with my form and made me feel as if I was the only person in the shop. He was very attentive to me. This is the type of service that gets long term customers! Even if they were selling something that was twice as much as the other shops I would still buy it here because of the customer service I received while I was here. I didn't plan on writing a review however, after talking to someone else that had the same bad experience and coincidentally describing it as an odd place I felt it necessary to relay my experience. I am new to Archery, but a life-long competitive athlete and was excited to check this shop out. As I entered the store someone sarcastically asked me if I was going hunting in what I had on(gym gear). I made a mental note of the "odd vibe," in the store and carried on. The salesman was very high pressure asking how much I wanted to spend when I hadn't even indicated that I was interested in anything. I merely asked him if they carried Hoyt or Matthews bows(they do not). I was able to find a great shop up in Miramar and will continue to spend my money there. I had such a bad experience here that I will not be going back nor will I recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I purchased my wife's recurve bow at Bow 'N Arrow and Bruce was nothing short of amazing in his service and expertise. I have to make a confession though - I went to Performance Archery last weekend looking for a better selection of quivers and tabs. I even ended up getting a recurve for myself there. I regret it very much. Their service was awful and they did a shitty job setting up my bow. What a great shop. Now I see why this place only has 5 star reviews. Before I had even entered the store, I was greeted by an employee on his way out who wanted to shoot the breeze about my car. Very personable with a no BS brown nosing attitude. I made a couple of laps around the store and was quickly greeted by Jim. I told Jim I hadn't shot a bow since I was a kid and my goals as a new archer. Jim was quick to recommend the best bow for the money that accommodated my skill(none), rather than the most expensive one in the shop. He let me shoot the bow at their indoor range without even asking if I was going to purchase it. After a couple of shots, he picked out a better draw weight for me and taught me some of the basics. He helped me for an HOUR on my stance, pull and other fundamentals of archery without pushing me to make a purchase. At the end of the free lesson, I ended up purchasing the bow and the basic necessity's to go along with it not only because I wanted the bow, but also because the staff earned my respect and my money. Imagine that, a salesman who genuinely cared about customer satisfaction instead of money? Well done. He taught me how to string it, maintain it and some of the basic nomenclature. That time spent with me was important to not only get me going on the right path, but to make sure I enjoyed my bow instead of becoming frustrated with it, hanging it up and forgetting about it.
