For USED Car Shopping Only Background: We recently bought a used 2008 Kia Sadona Minivan, fully equipped, 42,000 miles for $10,000 at Bowen Scarff Ford. KBB had suggested retail at around $9,250 and NADA had the price at $10,750. We found the van on our banks car buying service site. I gave them 1 star because the car itself was well prepared to be resold, it seems they did everything short of certifying it (as they are not a Kia dealership) to prepare the car for resell. I gave them the second star because the store itself was quite nice, it had good sitting areas to spend time at while waiting and the low level support staff were all very friendly. However, the sales desks did feel kind of in the open and I didn't really appreciate that. Now for why they didn't get the other three stars. First, I docked them 1.5 stars for their gimmicky "No Dicker Sticker" policy. They don't bug on their prices AT ALL. They claim they, "try to give you the lowest price possible, have done it for 20+ years, true no hassle car buying experience." Well, that is fine if your customer holds a certain perspective that car sales people can be truly trying to help their customers and are actually capable of cutting their margins so far that the customer will get the best price period. I don't hold that view. I feel that all car dealerships are truly in it for the money, they care very little for the customer (why would they?!), and they are always trying to turn as big a profit as possible. Thus, I go into car buying assuming negotiation is on the table, despite any guarantee the dealership is making because I assume their profit margins are set higher then they need to be to turn a decent profit. Don't get me wrong, do I feel I got a good price on this vehicle? Yes. Do I feel I got a fair price? Maybe, I am not actually sure yet. Do I feel I got the BEST price possible? Absolutely not. And by the way, all I was trying to negotiate for was $500 off the sticker price. I docked them another star for the sales person. We worked with two people, first I won't name because I didn't like him, and the second was Rick Cuddie, he was quite likable. Now, the first guy got them docked because I felt he was the epitome of an annoying sales person, constantly being amazed at all the cool features of the van and commenting on them, trying to act like we were old friends and he was doing me a solid, and generally not giving me enough room. Most disturbing part, he tried to assume he knew my own personal situation and why I make the decisions I make, that made me feel quite uncomfortable. I like to make my own opinions and discover the vehicle for myself. If I have questions I will ask them. Also, he tried to give us information on a vehicle he was not familiar with (because we bought a used Kia at a Ford dealership) and some of that information was false (like about the transferability of the warranty). Finally, I docked them another star for their financing. We financed a significant amount of this vehicle and had a good loan from our bank. Bowen Scarff wanted to run our credit (which is excellent mind you) and get us a better deal (you know, since they couldn't bug on the sticker price and all). What was the deal they got us? A whole 0.01% less than the loan from our bank. So what did we do with that? We turned around and got our bank to drop their rate and went with our bank because we know, love and trust our bank. I couldn't say any of those things about this dealership so why would I finance with them?! In the end, would I buy another vehicle from them? Yes, but only if I found it online, loved everything about it, was ABSOLUTELY okay with the price shown, test drove it and it was exactly as I expected it to be, and did no financial dealing with them. Would I recommend them to a family member or friend? Absolutely not. Mind you, this is only for used cars, I suspect buying a new car from them would be different, and likely better. read more

Bought a CPO F-150 at the beginning of October. Salesman was Daryl, very nice guy. After signing paper work, I was told my floor mats and second key would be ordered, since apparently they did not have them on hand. I didn't mind waiting a bit, I was happy to have gotten the truck I wanted within my budget. Two weeks later, I called for information. I spoke we Daryl, he said he would follow up next day with status on my license plates and my key/floor mats: he never called. A week later I go in to talk to them, speak to Daryl in person. He seemed to have forgotten who I was, I understand, he probably sees 50 new faces every day. Still no word on plates(the temp plate expired in a week) or other items, he said he would call next day: no call. Couple days before temp plate expires, I get a call from Cody, the didn't have the title for my truck...I need to come in for a new temp plate. Go in for the temp plate next day. Talk to Daryl, he forgot who I was again. Asked about floor mats and key, he had forgotten to order and didn't even recall a key. He managed to scrounge up floor mats for me, and said he would call me to tell me when my key was coming in next day: no call. My wife and I came back in again to sign paperwork because previous form to get plates had expired. Daryl remembered me finally. No key still same story. Two months after buying truck, plates come. Needed them for a commercial parking permit in Seattle, but parking without only cost $200 for two months. Would have bought a truck with a title on hand if I knew. STILL NO KEY. Talk to another salesmen he checks their on hand supply for a key to my truck no luck, so, he tells me they have a vendor come in every Friday to make keys at 3:30. He says for sure this Friday I could come in and get my key made quickly and obviously at no cost to me. Come in that Friday at 3:45, vendor was running late. Waited 20 minutes...he was still half an hour out. I'm calling it quits...keep the key. Not going back there again. Selling Fords is not a unique feature, lots of places sell them. I have been to lots of other places and bought cars elsewhere before, never had this very unique and poor experience. Shop elsewhere. Lesson learned, ask to see the title and all components prior to signing. read more

Our search for a Ford Fiesta ST began in Bremerton, WA at Parr Ford. They didn't have any in stock, so tried to talk us into buying an older SE. Did take it out for a spin, and while it drove nice, it wasn't what we wanted. With a lot of help from the internet, we found an ST at the Kirkland Ford Dealer. Took it out for a spin, liked it, came back to talk price. Very interesting. When my husband balked, not so much about the price but because we wanted to think about this, the price started coming down. He still balked, the price came down again. A third balk, price further reduced. We went home, and the salesman and his boss did not sell us a car. Than came Bowen Scarff in Kent WA and Randy Good. Communication was at first by email, but Randy said that they were expecting a Fiesta ST to come to the dealership around the 26th of August. He gave us a good ballpark estimate of the cost, excluding a possible trade in and an extended warranty. An appointment was set up for us to go over the final figures, but down a down payment, but the dealership had set up the appointment on Randy's day off. Enter Tom Keefe, another really great guy and fine salesman. He had folks look at our vehicle, offered a trade-in price and a car was sold. Our little Fiesta ST arrived a few days earlier than expected, they called to let us know and we had the pleasure of celebrating our purchase with both Randy and Tom. Randy, ran us through all the tricks of operating the ST. Then we met with the bookkeeper, made some choices about other options we wanted in addition to the car, and wrote them a check. It was THE NICEST CAR BUYING experience we have ever had during our 51 years of marriage. Over those many years together, we have bought a good many cars. Other car dealers should look at how Bowen Scarff sells cars. If we live to ever buy another car (providing the government will still allow us to still drive) we will return to Bowen Scarff. We will probably have a lot of looks cast as to why a couple of old folks would want a bright orange, high performance car, but as they say "you are only young once". Had a great day riding the backroads of the Olympic peninsula, visiting Port Townsend, and traveling south via 101. It is a sporty, fun car to drive. We love it! read more

My experience with Bowen Scarff Ford was awesome, and I want to send special thanks and appreciation to Randy Good and Kari Weston! Randy went out of his way to give me a super great deal--he really went the extra mile, which I so appreciate! Kari helped me tremendously also by explaining all the financing options and details so I could make decisions that fit me and my situation. Both Randy and Kari really listened to me, and helped me through the process in a way that calmed my anxiety about having to buy a vehicle when I had not planned to. They are both pros at what they do! Because of an auto accident the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, my car was totalled due to the actions of another driver. I ended up in a lot of pain from the impact, seat belt and air bag combination, and suddenly found myself needing to purchase another vehicle, and deal with all the insurance details, paperwork, time away from work, etc. I researched small SUV reviews and information and found myself drawn to the Ford Escape. Buying a car is not something I do everyday--it's out of my comfort zone. 4 weeks after purchasing my vehicle, I am changing the 5-star review Bowen-Scarff shoves down your throat to a 1-star. First, I should mention the car is awesome. No complaints there. The problem is the dealer. I came in pre-approved for a loan on my specific car at a very favorable rate from my credit union. Before I ever even showed up to see the car, they made me fill out a credit report. It didn't make sense given that I already had financing, but whatever. I locked up my Experian account and went to get the car. Over and over, I reminded them that I wanted to use my credit union financing. And I did. But now, for the last three weeks, I've received at least 10 "adverse decision" letters from banks and credit unions I've never even heard of. Why so many? Why not just accept my financing and move on? Next, please don't fall for the 45-minute extended warranty presentation their finance guy (Rob) will not only insist is mandated by law but is also recorded (giving it an air of importance, right?). I told him at the outset, I didn't want the extended warranty. After he droned on for 20 minutes, I told him again I didn't want it. That's when his attitude shifted from Mr. Niceguy to the complete opposite. Just rude. But still he continued "because he had to" for another 25 minutes. I'm switching my review today because I finally did the research. It is not "required by law" for them to make you sit through that ridiculous, high-pressure sales pitch. I challenge BS (great acronym for this dealer) to show me the RCW that requires it. I'm guessing it's simply a way for the finance guy to earn a commission. Either way, I'm contacting the Attorney General today. I hope they did record the conversation, including the part where Rob told me it was required by law. They can turn it over to the AG themselves. read more

I was looking for a new 2014 Escape, & had a 10+ year old Escape to possibly trade in. I had done enough online research ahead of time so I had an awareness of the different options available but wanted to get details at the lot. I do not like the car purchase process but had purchased my previous Escape at Bowen Scarff & had a good experience then. This time was the same. Nigel was very helpful & low-pressure. He patiently answered all my questions, even the dumb ones :) Those he couldn't answer himself he got information from someone else & had the answer quickly. The incentives are very good right now, a good time to purchase a 2014 model (at least in the Escape family). I for sure could have sold my trade-in for a good amount more than I got for trading it in - Nigel threw out an amount he thought the lot would sell it at & it was around what I thought it would go for - but it was worth it to me to not have to sell it myself. But if you're into selling cars personally, go for that. The process took around 3 hours so eat before you get there, but it was very low stress. Even the gentleman who offered all the extra coverage was very kind & polite, not like some highly-intense-stress-creator types that I've dealt with at other lots in the past. read more

I wanted a replacement truck after my 2003 F250 Super Duty was stolen. Looked at lemon lots, dealer lots all over. Most had 150,000+ miles and showed it. Thankfully there is online viewings available. Found a 1995 F250 that was better than most 10 years newer - including having classic lines. Most of the time if something that old goes to an auction someplace and you end up with a salesman viper tracking you through the lot. Ron called me after I had submitted an inquiry online (and I was actually at another lot looking at a truck in the same price range - and a lot more wear). The truck was waiting when I arrived (the other dealer couldn't find two of trucks I had interest in!) Asked and got the service performed on check in and it was thorough and complete, especially for an older vehicle (19 years - + part "only" had 108,000 miles). Right there is the "no haggle" sticker - but they are in business and checking for comparables it was right in with the average range for price, plus it had some desirable extras like a Line-x'd bed and a working canopy. Lot's of compliments on it. Everything was straight forward and no "having to talk to the manager" game. Found what I liked at a fair price and I am a satisfied customer. read more

**Warning** Steer clear of BOWEN SCARFF FORD Services department for repairs on your diesel truck--they're NOT diesel experts. Bought our Truck in for an oil leak in June 2025 first time around they charged us $3,100 Their diagnosis was steering gear box. They replaced it and said that it should take care of the problem. Well, it did not we had to bring it back for a second time in August 2025 they diagnosed it saying it was the vacuum pump. An hour later they called and said it was the AC condenser and that it also had a coolant leak. After repairing those components was another $3,900 this second time around. 20 minutes after driving it home the oil leak reappears. We drove it back to them for a 3rd time after they had it back for a third time when they were inspecting the water pump busted on them supposedly, the oil leak that was brought to their attention was never looked at, after going back and forth multiple times and almost $7,500 in and time was wasted the truck still has the oil leak and we are now in October. Stay away from Bowen Scarff Ford at all costs, they guess what's wrong with your vehicle will take your money, and not fix your concern. read more

I took my car in for a minor service appointment and walked away very impressed by the service department's communication (thank you Karen!) and overall wonderful customer service! The gentleman who brought my car around was very kind and went beyond my expectation of service when I asked a simple, unrelated question in regards to my display and the controls on my dash/steering wheel. I learned more about the controls of my car and what everything meant in the 5-7 minutes Darren spent with me than I learned when I bought my car new, 2 years ago. Darren was super patient and friendly and made sure I understood what everything was. I hope the dealership doesn't hide Darren back in the service department all day underneath a hood of a car -- he has a natural, easy way of customer service/sales talent that deserves a place in the front lines. It was the end of the day for everyone; myself, Karen & Darren, and to still have the welcoming attitude and the level of wonderful customer service was incredibly refreshing. Having never bought a car (either used or new) my knowledge of the car buying experience consisted entirely of car dealer commercials from the '70s. Anticipating Cal Worthington and his "dog" Spot, I began emailing local dealers to gather some basic information about inventory, options, pricing, etc. Within about an hour I had a response from almost every Ford dealer in Puget sound. What I didn't have was any useful information. That was until I got a response from Brent at Bowen Scarff Ford. One of the first things I do not want when I walk onto car lot is to be "attacked" by their sales people. Tim Zetterwall approached my wife and I in an easy going, professional manner, and respected our wishes. Tim helped me sort through their inventory for the trucks that met my criteria. Being a detailed researcher (it drives my wife crazy), I had many questions about different truck models, options etc and Tim spent the time to answer each one. After reaching a sale agreement with Tim, I was personally thanked by Brian Camp, one of the sales managers, for my business and time. I have been a Bowen-Scarff customer since 1998. I do not like car salesmen coming out to greet me and smothering me the minute I get on the lot. I just bought a 2011 F-150 here, and the buying experience couldn't have been more pleasant. When I was ready to test drive a couple of vehicles, I went inside, and was greeted by Rick Ricker, long time sales person at Bowen Scarff. I appreciated his knowledge specifically about trucks, along with his experience selling at Bowen Scarff since 1982. He is a wealth of knowledge. Before buying at Bowen, I went to a few other truck dealers, and quickly experienced what I do not like about buying a vehicle. Salesmen who are instantly your "best friend". Salesmen having to "guess" the pricing on the vehicles, or "I'll be right back". NO THANKS. My purchase was 2 years newer, and $2000 less than a vehicle I considered at another dealer. If you like the thrill of wheeling and dealing, and going back and forth, and "playing poker faced" with your purchase, Bowen Scarff is not for you. If you like honesty, and more than fair pricing for quality, clean vehicles, I'd recommend Bowen-Scarff. read more

Just bought a brand new Ford Maverick from Bowen Scarff this past weekend. Blown away by my experience. This is NOT your typical dealership experience. I went in with my guard up ready to deal with pushy sales people and gimmicky tactics. To my surprise, I did not deal with any of that. I worked with Chris Kelly who went above and beyond to get me trade in value, final price, and everything squared away before I even walked into the dealership. I really appreciated being able to coordinate all the details over the phone so I didn't have to spend all day at the dealership. I let him know I had two young kids at home and didn't pressure me at all. He treated me with respect and kindness and didn't try to push anything on me or create any false sense of urgency. Never felt like I was being "sold" on anything, he seemed to just want to help me find the right vehicle for the right price. I actually really enjoyed talking with him at the dealership, cool guy! From the time I actually went in to when I left it couldn't have been more than 2 hours. This is how buying a car should be! You've got a customer for life Bowen Scarff! read more
