My wife and I were fortunate enough to book this wonderful hotel the day before our trip. It was a fortuitous booking. In addition to great service, The room was very clean and has a very cool industrial Nordic vibe. The bed was super comfortable. The view from the patio was amazing looking out on the water. The sea lions were everywhere. They make a lot of noise at night but the hotel supplies earplugs. One nice amenity is the saunas which we utilized twice in our short stay. We ordered dessert from the hotel. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding but do yourself a favor and don't skip on the apple bread pudding. It was delicious as was the strawberry tart with ice cream. read more

What a great addition to Astorias food scene. Right on the pier the simplicity of the bar/dining area is stylish. Great cocktail menu, and scrumptious seasonal food menu. We got a bunch of small plates between the 4 of us to share. The mushroom tart to die for, the roasted mussels were full of flavor, And carrots and salt fish were a surprisingly nice appetizer, and the duck and beets I could have eaten as a main course it was so good. We stayed at the Bowline for four days and explored Astoria for our annual vacation. Let's start with the good: -Every staff member we dealt with was professional, pleasant and very helpful. -we stayed in a 1st floor River view room and the view is gorgeous, with our own little patio. -at first glance, the room is charming, with unique lighting and a large soaking tub. -we enjoyed our meal there. Now for the bad: -the walls are paper thin. The noise of the sea lions was fine; clearly hearing my neighbors belching and farting was not. There wasn't any Barry White action going on, but I'm sure that would have been loud and clear, too. -the bed is like a hammock; raised edges and sunk in the middle. Not fabulous for two people, as we both kept rolling into the middle all night. -the very cool sofa is actually super-uncomfortable; it's very, very deep and you have to use your bed pillows to make it sit-able. -the cute little trash cans were filled within 15 minutes when we each put our soda cups in it, so between housekeeping visits, we basically piled takeout containers on the floor. -the nightstands are very small-your book and phone will fit there, but nothing else. Again, style over function here. If you are planning on spending one or two nights here, you will probably really enjoy it. By the third night, the lack of functionality will get to you. Unfortunately, you are paying for the view, not a comfortable room. For the cost, I had hoped for both. read more

As an overworked, super tired healthcare worker I needed a break with no expense spared. I wanted views, food, indulgence and ease. And Bowline Hotel delivered. The views, ships, fireplace, soaking tub with soaking salts, couch with a water view and the coziest throw blanket, food and drinks delivered promptly by room service, ease of parking and contactless check in was amazing. The sea lions were around (down the way and on the buoy out in the water) but we found their noise charming. (They did not interfere with our sleep and we didn't need ear plugs.) Took us a minute to get used to the sounds of being "in the water" but these sounds soon became relaxing/soothing (as the tide comes in and out you will notice the waves hitting the pier). We stayed at this hotel for the first time this spring. We weren't sure what to expect after some of the reviews but wow. It was an incredible trip and our hotel stay was the star. We planned ahead and opted for the valet parking service with was great, we also felt like the beds were so luxe and comfortable. You could hear the sea lions but it wasn't awful for us. We did sleep with a white noise machine on but it was no issue. We usually do that at home anyways. Our dog also enjoyed his visit and the pet entrance was actually super convenient for us. We were able to walk the town without having to worry about cars and parking which was great. There is also a small park area close to the hotel for pet potty breaks. Location was amazing. Close to the water to see all the boats and just relax. The rooms are so close to the bar and restaurant (not a noise issue at all) and we got to enjoy so many treats from the comfort of our room. My favorite was the crepe for breakfast. You must try the savory one! We enjoyed one of each and appreciated that there was no added "room service" charge. Checking out was so easy and the employee at the service desk was so kind, they even offered to hold our bags for us so we could adventure out to brunch before picking up our car to leave. We were excited to stay here as it was recommended by a friend of a friend.Nice modern hotel. We were on first floor ocean view. Attentive check in. Street parking or valet on open lot- next to street parking. Very niche hotel. Had 2 saunas available as a sauna pod on the dock. Bring your bathing suit. I chucked when I saw the earplugs on bedside tables. "In case of sea lions" . They weren't noisy during the day. However at nighttime!! Constant all night. Barking all night like no!! and we needed the earplugs. Be forewarned. They roost right under the rooms!! No coffee available in the lobby in the morning. Coffee tea bags and kettle in the rooms. This is "apparently" an upscale hotel. Coffee tea bags. And individual loose tea with compostable tea bags. Cutesy but no second cup of coffee available. read more

The good. Unbelievable view and atmosphere. The rooms were clean and and new. People were friendly. The bad. It is on the coast and normally air conditioning is not needed; however, in my stay the room ranged between 80 and 84 degrees. Opening the door and window helped slightly by not much. Thankfully the room had a ceiling fan and small personal fan. The mattress was anything but firm - I sank deeply into the bed which I did not like. The shower was low pressure and did not drain very well. I hate standing in water during a shower. You have to find parking on the street or pay $15 per day for valet service. read more

I was pleasantly surprised about this stay! The room was lush, warm gas fireplace, cozy robes, and they have thought of everything! There is a great upscale tea kettle, coffee & french press in the rooms. Frette linen (real deal!) and a cocktail bar that was calling my name. Our room was very close to the lobby, but it was not loud at all. The front desk was always accommodating and the breakfast AM server was sweet as well! I loved waking up and having an Americano in their lobby with ocean views - what more do you want. We had a "street" view which was fair for the price we paid and I thought it was kind of fun to have a door that opened out. It will be even better once Buoy Beer re-opens and they are next door neighbors. Come check it out. read more

Unreasonably overpriced for what you're actually getting. They also have the audacity to put hotel rooms next to a loud bar that goes til 11, so good luck getting sleep. Loud crashing sounds til 1am because of people cleaning. Front desk person gave us all keys that didn't work. We had to ask for bath towels. Horrible showers. They chose form over function, which is a rookie mistake. Hopefully enough people leave bad reviews exposing this place for what it is and they can be impacted because we truly don't feel like even close to got our money's worth here. I will say the bed is somewhat comfy but otherwise this hotel could close tomorrow and I'd be perfectly happy about it. read more

I have mixed feelings about whether or not I would stay here again. On the one hand, if you get a king room with a view of the water, it is lovely to have the sea life right outside your window. I saw a sea lion and lots of leaping fish that were delightful. The room was beautifully decorated, and I enjoyed the bed. However, my partner had a miserable time in the bed because it was too soft for him and his low back hurt the entire visit so he couldn't sleep. Although the room was pretty, I would say the amenities were only semi private. That includes the deck and the bathroom. There is a sliding door, but no closing door, to the bathroom so when you do your business, be aware that it will likely be heard. Also, the water pressure in the shower was laughable. The outside deck has a half wall so if you go all the way to the rail overlooking the bay or if any of your surrounding neighbors, do, you can all see into each other's little patios. Smell wise, my partner really struggled with the proximity of the kitchen to our room as the food odors were offputting for him. The bar and restaurant and lobby are all in the same space, and our room was number 2, just off the lobby. That said people were friendly on staff and it was nice to have a mini fridge in the room. There was a bit of form over function as the decor was lovely, but some basic things like privacy and water pressure were lacking. read more

By far the best place to stay in Astoria. This place has it all: views, ambiance, great staff, comfortable rooms, and pet-friendly. The rooms all had a balcony which either went onto the pier or had a river view. The coffee and tea bar in the room was an excellent touch. The barrel saunas on the river are free to hotel guests. Valet parking is available onsite for $15/day as well. There is no AC despite many hotel booking sites showing it does have it. The hotel has a bar and restaurant which we found to have the best drinks and food in Astoria. read more

After being on a month-long journey through the PNW and staying at a new place nearly every night, the Bowline is the place I miss the most. I originally planned on one night, but that simply wasn't going to cut it. I booked another night hours into my stay. The bar: The cocktails are amazing, the food is amazing, but most importantly, the bartenders are as talented as they are lovely... and they are very very lovely. Thank you to Bailey, Emily, and one other girl who I'm blanking on her name ‍ More on the food (briefly): Simply some of the most creative, mouthwatering dishes I have had. My compliments to the chef. The staff: They were likely sick of me by the time I left, but nonetheless, Heidi and Kat made my stay stress-free and then some. The amenities: First off, there is a sauna on the pier. Sweat last nights wine/cocktails off as you look out on the Columbia River while seals serenade you underneath the pier. We loved the food and beverages from the Knot Bar and would return to eat but probably wouldn't stay here again. Staff was very nice and accommodating and the room is generally nice, with nice amenities like the tub and coffee/tea bar. The barrel saunas are a fun touch. Given how recently they did the renovations and the price point, we incorrectly assumed there's air conditioning. The room was a stifling 81 degrees until we opened the window, and it never cooled below 78 even with the fans on and window open. There is no safety covering (ie, bars) over the ground floor windows- so your only option to try to cool the room down is to have your window open onto a public street, which is a bit strange. There's no screen on the door and it also opens right into the shared walkway with other rooms (no barrier between room patios), and there's no blockade to prevent the public from walking right up- so we didn't leave the door open at all to try to help with cooking. At 7:30am, we awoke to extremely loud noise that sounded similar to a Jack hammer and looked out to see a crew of workers from the business across the street working feet from our room. The river side rooms may be quieter than the trolley side rooms, and I'm sure the rooms are more pleasant during cooler days so may consider trying again in a different room/during a cooler season. read more

We had a 2 night stay for our extended family of 12, so 3 rooms with 1 family pet dog. They were so accommodating, friendly and service focused which I haven't experienced in a long time. As you might imagine, traveling with young children (6) and a pet dog isn't stress free so I was pleasantly surprised at how the entire staff went out of their way to be helpful. This is a lovely hotel. My partner and I stayed one night to celebrate our anniversary and had a great time. There are lots of little touches that make it feel luxurious (French press coffee and loose leaf tea in the room, hardwood floors, deep bathtub, nice soap, etc) and it's also super cozy with a fireplace and blankets in the room. I was glad we splurged for the riverside view. It felt like we were on a fancy ship because all we could see out the windows was water! I'm leaving off one star because, while the staff was happy to let us check in early, they failed to let us know it came with a $25 fee. Not cool. read more

Waking up to French Press coffee was perfection. Loved the soft robe, wore it all morning. Street parking was easy, but if its not, valet was very reasonable at only $15. Everyone we encountered was so nice and helpful. Bartenders were exceptional. Loved the drink selection and cocktails! Food at restaurant was also delish. View was spectacular. You just can't beat it. Sea Lions were loud during the day, saw some negative reviews about that. They didn't bother us at all, they were quiet at night and our room was right next to them. I will start this review by saying the staff deserves 5 stars! Every one of them was kind and welcoming. The rooms are nice, and the location is hard to beat. The reason I gave 3 stars is due to the paper thin walls and bed that's entirely too soft. We had to listen to the people in the next room having sex, the people in the lobby chatting and the employees banging around in the kitchens and other rooms. You can hear every conversation, that's how thin the walls are. For the price of this hotel you'd think it would be insulated much better. The bed destroyed our backs, as you literally fall through the mattress. I would want to stay here again, but for the nightly price of almost $500, it's going to be a hard sale to repeat. read more

My family and I had a wonderful stay here. Reserved the Ice House Suite (in a separate building apart from the main hotel) and a river view king bed room in the main building. The ambience was unique and views outstanding. The location is in walking distance to the shops and restaurants of the downtown. Kat at the reception desk was friendly and helpful. We were greeted with a glass of Prosecco upon arrival. There were no sea lions to disturb our sleep, but be warned, it is a converted cannery on a pier, so to retain the character of the building the acoustic insulation is minimal. You will likely hear movement of other people around you. They kindly provided ear plugs. We had morning coffees/breakfast in the dining room and evening appetizers/ cocktails on the patio listening to live music. The food was delicious. I will stay here again. read more

I will forever recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a comfortable and beautiful place to stay in Astoria! The decor is so cute and there are so many thoughtful little touches they have all around the room such as the loose leafs tea, local coffee, and earplugs incase the sea lions bother you! Honestly we could barely hear the sea lions and we were on the bottom floor pretty close to the office. They weren't too loud or annoying. The sauna is amazing and I love that you can see the water through it! The staff is all very sweet and make you feel comfortable and they are so helpful if you have any questions or anything. It was my boyfriends birthday and I wanted to surprise him in the morning with breakfast in bed and they executed it perfectly and even wrote happy birthday on a little card with candles! The wood was insanely delicious, we got the same breakfast the next day because the crepes were so good! I definitely recommend those as well as their homemade scones Everything was spectacular here, we had absolutely no complaints! read more

My friend and I sat in the bar area for ten minutes without anyone approaching us, we went to the bar and got menus and waited another ten minutes without being approached. We decided to give up and go have snacks/drinks in room. J went out later and had the most impersonal lackluster service. Wanted soup but no bread. Ordered a dessert to take back to my room, 15 minutes later, not ready, brought to my room dry lukewarm. Not at all up to the amount of money being charged. Beautiful atmosphere, charming and well decorated. The staff were lovely and the view was gorgeous. But those sea lions. I know the hotel has limited control over them residing under the hotel, but the provided ear plugs did nothing to tune out the never ending barking. They sound like dying geese. I wish we knew this before committing to the hotel. It is not acknowledged anywhere. We kept the bathroom fan on all night and it helped a little but we were unable to have a restful sleep. For that alone I can not recommend this hotel. A breathtaking view does not justify spending $350 a night to not be able to get any restful sleep. read more

We did not stay here, but did enjoy drinks and dinner here outside on their patio that is out over the water; it was simply lovely. Highly recommend. The atmosphere is quiet and lovely (at least it was that evening), the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. There is one gas fire pit which added to the ambiance, and if you're lucky, you can score the four seats around it. Also, the local resident sea lions can be seen sleeping down below. If it's cooler, definitely bring a coat. read more

Spectacular location, view & decor. Go here for the Instagram pics and you won't be disappointed. I would definitely come back for drinks and to watch the sunset but was really disappointed about the food. The only thing worth ordering was the steak tartare which was a little salty but comparable to what I would get at any nice restaurant in Portland. I can't say anything great about any of the other dishes we ordered and we got 5 things to try. It ended up being pretty expensive and not worth the cost.
