We took a chance on a Sunday evening to give Boxcar a try. The service was mediocre, the food was pretty good as well. The ambiance was good. Just a little loud for our liking but it wasn't a deal breaker. We both had the braised short rib (no substitutions). Mine was a little dry hers seemed to be juicier than my but oh well. It had a great taste the seasoning was on point...I was just disappointed half way through it because of the dryness. The bar seems to be the best thing going because it was very active, lots of laughs which contributed to the noise. I'd give Boxcar a solid 3.5-4. Great dive spot to meet friends. The service needs a little attention tho, our server never checked back in with us after the entree's were delivered. read more

I really liked the outdoor seating area, the artwork on the walls, the cool vibe inside, great server, and the interesting options on the menu. Our sever was great. The beer selection is small but they have a few pretty good ones to go with the food. The appetizer I had was great. I think this would be a great date night place. On my visit I was there with a buddy and we had two other buddies joining us so it wasnt really the vibe we were looking for that night. We ended up just getting one appetizer and one beer then leaving to go somewhere else that would be more of the four guys hanging out vibe. Loved this place as it was one of many in the same location, there was like 4 or 5 breweries in a row here but this one was the best as far as ambience, beers, and food! First time visit and we really enjoyed it. Stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday. We were warmly greeted and offered our choice of where we wanted to sit. Our waiter was attentive and answered all our questions. The sweet potato poutine was different m, but in a good way. The buffalo chicken Mac and cheese was heaven in a bowl. Perfect amount of heat and really cheesy. The fish chips got high marks. The batter was so light and not greasy. The fries were just ok. The highlight was the banana pudding for dessert. We had an awesome meal here and look forward to returning! We arrived early and had a few bourbons and beers in the basement. They offer Belle Mead bourbon from Nashville which is spectacular! As for our meal, when we headed upstairs to meet our guest, we again sat at a bar and enjoyed a libation. Our guest arrived eventually and dinner began! They sat us with no fuss even though our whole party was a bit late versus the reservation time. The hostess and bartenders and waiters were very hospitable. I had an incredible vegetarian dish with a massive block of amazingly fresh mushrooms and a very flavorful sauce with some veggies and whole grains. It was huuuugggeeee and delicious. Very cool restaurant we found after my husband picked me up for the Atlanta airport. It was a little after 8pm on a Saturday and I was hungry! We got here and put our names down - said the wait would be maybe 30-45 minutes. So we got a drink at the bar. I got a cocktail with vodka in it, forget the name though and my husband got a mezcal cocktail. We decided to share some lemon pepper wings while we waited for our table. These were delicious! We then figured, why not just eat here? So we ordered another round of drinks - I got the same cocktail and my husband got an old fashion. Welcome to the west side, Boxcar. I'm so glad you are here. This place only opened in March, yet I already feel late to the party. Of the seven people in my party, I was the only one who had never been there. The place may be new, but the staff is seasoned and gathered from other Atalanta eateries (smart move). I interacted with three staffers directly. Danielle - friendly and helpful hostess with menu choices. Shawn/ Sean my first server who was helpful, honest and attentive. I was expecting four people. Seven showed up- some 2 hours late. Shawn took it all in stride. Ended up being there over four hours. Ended the night with Siva as our server. How she kept all the tickets straight is beyond me. This place is festive with a menu that has something for everyone. We shared everything. Shawn attentively kept bringing plates and water. I spent $47 including tip for cocktails, Brussels sprouts, lamb sliders. loved my food. Also got to sample and would recommended fried green tomatoes, blue salad? (dont recall the name but it had walnuts and was divine), sweet potato fries, pretzel. the sauce that is served with the soft pretzel is the real star. Feel free to leave your table to frequent the other bars / food truck or just sit and stay a while. I got the most feedback on the wings. Most don't like them. I didn't try them. I also seemed to have missed the spicy hot pickles. Oh well. They don't seem to be missed by the people I asked. Anyway- I thought it was funny that I got a Marco Polo from a friend and noticed we were at the same place. How funny and shows you what a go to spot this place is becoming. I'm excited for summer. I must say I did not know what to expect from this spot, but I was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere/Environment: From afar it just looked like a brewery and beer bar to me on the exterior, but it actually has a lot more to offer. There is a nice patio, a beautiful indoor/outdoor bar, lots of open spaces and seating, and cool light fixtures. This restaurant does not in fact have it's own brewery on site, but there is a sizeable beer and wine shop downstairs, as well as another serving bar. Food/drink: Ordered the Mushroom and Farro Risotto, Chickpea and Avocado Bowl, Lamb Sliders, Pork Belly and Scallops, and the Smoked Chicken Wings to eat; and the Bestside cocktail to drink. All of dishes were delicious! I was really impressed that the 2 vegetarian dishes I ordered were filling and satisfying. I also liked that the Smoked Chicken Wings were whole wings and had a nice plum BBQ sauce on them. The Scallops were cooked perfectly and the sweet potato puree that came with it was rich and smooth. The Lamb Sliders were good, but I wish the patties were cooked a bit less. Finally, the Bestside was not that great and not too memorable so, minus one star this time around for their (weak) cocktail game. A bit disappointed by my night at Boxcar. I was encouraged by the good reviews but the ratings in retrospect were either 2 stars or 5 stars which is probably most reflective of being a new restaurant. My group ordered the Brussels, two of the fried chicken sandwiches, and one veggie burger. Everyone's fried came out cold. The Brussels we ordered without bacon, they came with bacon. They also were drenched in a syrupy sauce and no hint of the vinegar in the description. The veggie burger was burned, and the side salad was like a salad that had been in your fridge a few days. Do not order the condiments. The barbecue sauce was very ketchup forward, and the ketchup was essentially a mashed blanched tomato. I love homemade sauces and these are not it. On the positive the venue is cute! Has an airy feeling with a patio and plenty of high top bar space. The wine is also very affordable with bottles in the $20s and $30s. Parking is super easy in front of the restaurant in a huge lot. The fried chicken was good! I ordered the rioja which was good and a healthy pour. The manager was a bit hostile when we mentioned our concerns. Our meals were all largely untouched otherwise I would see his point. He did the right thing and discounted our meals as well as replaced the fries. Our server was lovely. I hope they find their way! read more

Boxcar. What can i say, this place is amazing. The atmosphere is really good, so is the food. I liked my cocktails too. Let's start with the Mac N cheese. Holy shit. Texture, flavor, presentation. AMAZING. They killed that 100%. The Korean Fire wings are madddd good. Soo good, my stomach hurting now thinking about it. The buffalo wings sucked though. The charcuterie board thing was really good except the bacon shit, that was weird. Weirdly Good!!! Lmao, it was all really good and the bacon dips sweetness complimented the salty bread really well. Cauliflower was a no, don't serve people raw cauliflower, it sucks. The bulgogi was decent, but everything else really hit. I forgot what drinks i had. One issue i had here that didn't sour the experience but annoyed me, they should let the table know gratuity is automatically added. We tipped like 40% without realizing it, and our service wasn't the greatest. Other than that, definitely worth a stop. read more

Id five then 3.5 stars if I could. I looked at the menu online to know what I wanted to order. However, when I got there, I was told the menu changed and what I wanted to order wasn't available any longer. Sigh. If you change your menu, please change it online also. I order the Day Drinker and want overly impressed but I may not have been able to really taste it after eating things that altered my taste buds. I tasted more nutmeg or whatever was floating on top than the pear flavor. My friend who doesn't drink much thought it was strong. The lamb sliders were good. The are nice mounds of well-seasoned lamb on a bun, with a pickle and sauce that complement it well. I'd order them again. The Brussel sprouts and Bacon were a surprise. I thought the bacon would be cut up but it came out with a thick meaty cut of bacon on top. The glaze the Brussel sprouts is in is very good but it's sweet. I dipped the sliders into it and that was tasty. I'd order them again I was able to taste one of my friends smoked wings. They were crispy and seasoned primarily by the barbecue sauce. A little brining could've helped with the flavor but they were ok. They are some nice sized whole wings. I may come back to give it a try again. Hopefully, the menu online will be accurate so my mouth isn't set for one thing only to get there and learn it's no longer available. read more

What a lovely surprise we had when visiting West end Atlanta today. We stumbled across this sweet gem of a restaurant in an unexpected place. It is right on the Beltline and worth a stop no matter where in Atl you happen to live. The bartender was amazing and I'm so sorry I did not get her name! She is customer focused with an infectious laugh. I had the fried chicken breast Sammie and it was by far the best crispy chicken sandwich I've ever had (sorry Chick-fil-a!). Crunchy, juicy and perfectly seasoned! Hubbie had the GOAT and was quite pleased. Truly the greatest turkey sandwich he has had. Came here for a quick brunch with my friend. This place is kinda in the middle of no where it felt but it was super cool inside! Loved the vibes. The service was great and our server was super helpful and accommodating. My friend and I both got The Vagabond without bacon and it was delicious!!!! Just check the pictures and your mouth will start watering! Also, we shared a side of sweet potato fries and they were perfect! We went two nights in a row because it seemed to be the only decent food in the area and given our short trip we weren't in the mood to take any chances. A great spot in the West End. This gem is right off Atlanta's Beltline too! So locals and tourists love the area. Housed in a trendy beer and ASW whiskey area. This place stands out, because of the food and the unique atmosphere. Great soulful music is usually on the speakers. We call that the "church". Always great staff. The drinks I feel could be a bit stronger or more unique. They do have a unique cocktail list with clever names, but none of them seem to wow with presentation nor taste. They're good, but not great or complex flavors. Still one of my fave go to places to introduce others to, especially if you are unfamiliar with the West End area. Very trendy place and loud with socializing. Food wise, I'm a big fan of the hand battered chicken tenders and their Korean fire dipping sauce. Be warned, it's hot! And tasty! read more
