Sunday's DJ! This is definitely the place to be for Sunday's Brunch! My family and I decided to check this place out and I must say the DJ and the drinks were poppin! We did not want to let the DJ go home-lol! We ordered shareable tapas, such as Brussel sprouts and pretzels, which were just ok, and I ordered 2 rounds of Poppin Bottles which came with a bottle of champagne and 2 small juices for making mimosas, all very yummy! The service wasn't great, because the place got very busy, very fast! The environment was loud and fun, and we are sure to return, maybe I will be in the mood for brunch next time. read more

Amazing food where all sauces, dressings and more are homemade fresh everyday. Food was 10/10! Staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. We came in on a night when there were bad storms in the area. Super yummy food and a great atmosphere with awesome drinks?! Count me in! Really loved this restaurant and bar! The environment is an open concept and it was quite spacious, letting the natural light in. The bar had many delicious alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks to choose from. I had their braised beef short rib, which was phenomenal. Beef was falling apart and had such amazing flavors and the veggies that came with it were cooked well. Carrots were of perfect consistency and were not too hard or mushy. The Kung pao brussel sprouts were yummy as well. Stayed at an Airbnb in Atlanta over the weekend and the hosts had listed Boxcar as a place nearby for dinner. It was an excellent choice. The vibe is eclectic with an homage to Leon Livingston a famous hobo who wrote 12 books on the life of a hobo. Davon was our waiter and recommended great drinks and dishes. I had whisky bbq wings that were perfect, we also had the Livingston sandwich, The Southern Mac Stack, and chicken tenders. Everything was served hot and was delicious. I would highly recommend eating here and ask for Davon! read more

My experience at Boxcar was strange from ths very beginning. I walked in and literally had to ask to be seated. The host (an asian guy I believe), and someone else were chin-wagging, completely ignoring me. Once we were seated, the waitress was okay initially, but after getting our drinks, we didn't see her again, literally! I'm talking over 45 minutes!! - The food was served ny someone else. I had to grab another waitress in order to get the check. She replied, "I will get your waitress." This led to an additional 10 minute wait. Just as I was about to go looking for her, surprise, surprise, she was just chatting, doing nothing, with the host who ignored us initially. Our burgers were cold and average at best, so do yourself a favor and skip Boxcar. The restaurants in West End are too amazing to settle for this outlier of horrific service. read more

Went to boxcar for dinner after the lantern parade, and will not be back. The manager (white guy, bald head, blue Hawaiian shirt with white flowers, Jean shorts) vaped on the floor of the restaurant. After that, he repeatedly took napkins and wiped his face, head and arms of sweat. He never washed his hands and continued to expedite and handle food. Gross! To top it off, he began eating what appeared to be a bowl of chili on the floor of the restaurant. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since our server was also seen eating a few fries. I know this is a casual environment, but really? Vaping on the floor and then handling the food? Wiping off your sweat and then handling customer dishes? The food was just average and definitely not good enough to overcome the unsanitary grossness. read more

Ok as a midwestern girl traveling for work. I arrived in the heart of Atlanta's rush hour and after seeing the traffic I decided to go the other way and get some dinner. I chose Boxcar solely based on reviews and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was festive and lively. The hostess was very polite and friendly. She sat me at a center table. I didn't wait long for the waiter either. He was nice and made some suggestions based off my questions. I ordered a Cider (circled in Photo) and a sandwich. I had the butcher's bun with sweet potato waffle fries and after a short time had my meal. All I'll say is I absolutely enjoyed it. I ordered the warm brownie pudding to go and enjoyed it in my hotel room. This is a rare find and a treat. I cannot wait to go back when I'm in town next time. read more

My friend recently moved to Atlanta and I was in town visiting her. She found Boxcar, and I'm glad she did! Our server was so nice and the food and drinks were great! I loved the pretzel with cheese sauce and mustard. The mustard was nice and spicy, just the way I like it. The strawberry smash was refreshing. I had the firebird chicken sandwich and I really liked it (even though I had a few modifications). My friend had the Hooked on a Fish-Wich and was happy with it. All in all, a great visit and I and I'm pretty sure that my friend will be taking her husband in the future. read more

I visited this place for the first time last night with a group of friends and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The employees are very kind and welcoming. We visited on a Thursday evening around 7:30p and we were able to find seating for all 5 of us fairly quickly. The bar was packed but there was room at the seating areas. The menu is extensive for a place like this. Lots of options for food and drinks! I enjoyed having so many options for food and drinks. We had just had dinner but decided to split some bar bites. The pretzel and some fries. They were all really good. They give a good amount of fries, enough to split between 2 people. I had to dock one star because we were there for about an hour and half and there was food left on a table from previous guests for that whole time. Otherwise, I would definitely visit again! I found it visually pleasing to the eyes, roomy, upbeat music, and a buzz with joyful conversation. Boxcar is an amazing brewery and restaurant that's ambiance is absolutely amazing. We stumbled on this place looking for a place to get a bite to eat and the food was great. Our first visit we tried the Korean wings, the Atl salad, and the Brussels sprouts. The next visit we had the chicken tenders and the turkey club. A Hop City spot to be! While looking around for a brewery to enjoy a quick afternoon beer at and ended up in the Hop City neck of the woods. On my first visit, they were either closed or I wasn't looking hard enough beyond the tinted doors (very plausible and I didn't even bother to walk up the stairs to double check because, lazy) so I vowed to return just for them. What a great choice that ended up being for me! Being one who loves solo dining, I love to find a chill spot with a great beer list, outdoor seating and great wifi that will allow me to watch my Housewives or random documentaries and I found that and more here at Boxcar. When I arrived, I was actually about 15 minutes earlier than their displayed business hours and was going to grab a beer at one of the neighboring spots but when I saw a young lady open the door, it was on. I'm a little nosey so I waited to be sure she actually got inside so I wouldn't have to be the one looking crazy if they still weren't open, but look at that! Maybe the hours have changed for Fridays? Not my business, lol, what a great surprise to see that I had 15 more minutes of bliss to enjoy! I was greeted warmly at the door and allowed to take my own seat at the bar. Shawn was the bartender and omg, I love him. What a seriously knowledgeable, helpful, sweet soul!! He was assisting the bar patrons on his own in the first few hours and kept our glasses full, our food coming and the spirits high without a sweat. What a gem. I started with a beer (of course) and went with a Guava beer from Cumming that was not my fave. I can usually push through even if I don't loveee the beer, but I had to give up on this one sadly :( Shawn was so sweet, he immediately took my glass and let me taste one of his favorites, the Untitled Art Tiki Sour, and omg. SO GOOD. I trusted him from then on. I asked Shawn his personal favorites among the items I was mulling over and opted to go with his recommendations. I started with the Soft-Baked Pretzel and opted for the Firebird Korean Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. The pretzel came out about 10 minutes later, so fresh and hot, paired with a hot cheese sauce and jalapeno beer mustard sauce. Listen, if you're a pretzel lover, you HAVE to get this when you visit. It was so good, I ordered TWO in one sitting, just for me lolll. You could just tell that it was truly fresh, not too chewy, wonderfully salted, ugh. Can't wait to have one again. I eat my fries first and these were really some great fries, seemingly homemade and super tasty. Sigh, I didn't love the Firebird sandwich like I thought I would. The flavor was phenomenal! The slaw was crunchy and refreshing, the chili crisp and pickle slices were divine, and the sauce was fantastic! However. I could barely chew through my chicken. It was a bit overcooked and I couldn't comfortably chew through the tendon. I ended up deconstructing my sandwich and cutting up the portions of the chicken that I could until I was kinda over it. The overall taste was great though and I'd try it again but we gotta get that chicken right lol. It wasn't enough to return my sandwich and I feel that if I had, they would have made it right as Shawn did my beer. The vibe inside of the restaurant was great with great R&B playing overhead and the chatter of guests enjoying some drinks with their guests. It had been raining most the afternoon that I was there so when it cleared up, I took the time to move out to their little outdoor seating near the stairs. By this time, another bartender had come onshift with Shawn and I didn't get her name, but what great energy! Idk if she knew the young ladies sitting next to me or if she just happened to be one of those people that make you feel like you're BFFs lol. She came into work so happy and was in such a great mood prepping drinks and chatting up guests, what great energy to pass on. :) Since I was still a bit hungry but loving the Boxcar team and offerings, I opted to order another Tiki Sour and another pretzel to pair up with my #RHONJ binge watching. (I mean, a Tiki Sour to watch my girl Teresa turn them tables? Yes pls) The team at Boxcar was so great about keeping the drinks flowing, not rushing me out of the place when I was just killing time and enjoying the afternoon, plus their great menu options. Came here with some hungry friends. This was my first time coming here, and I wasn't sure what to expect when I was told that this place was at the West End. There is a HUGE parking lot that was just about filled with cars. I'm not sure what other businesses are in the general vicinity of this free lot, but this area was big draw. We checked in with the host at about 8:15 pm on a Wednesday evening, and she told us that there would be a wait to be seated and that we could wait in the bar area. Not exactly sure of the reason for the wait because there were many open tables and not very many people waiting for a table in the bar area. We were eventually seated by a server who was very sweet, but wasn't a good server at all, because she kept disappearing, and everyone except for me had to wait for our server to appear because there was an issue with their orders. Our table was about 5 feet from where we were waiting at the bar. The table was very long, and I'm not complaining because I enjoyed the choice of table for us, but it certainly gave us a lot more room than we needed. There were 5 of us and I think 5 more people could've sat with us and we still would've had a lot of room to spread out. Our server was pretty quick to come to our table after we sat down, and was quick to bring our drinks. However, we waited a while for our server to show up again to take our orders. I ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib which was 24 hour braised beef short rib, stout & green peppercorn bordelaise, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted seasonal vegetables. Others in the group ordered a variety of menu items, burger, wings, salads, fries, and others. After about 20 minutes, our server walked by, telling us, "Your food is on its way." Then she disappeared and we didn't see her for about 10 minutes. She came by after that saying, "Your food is on its way." Huh? What's up with the delay? Finally, after being at Boxcar for a total of one hour, we finally started getting our food. My food was perfect and delicious! The meat (and there was a lot of it) was fall-off-the-bone tender, if it had actually been on a bone. The roasted veggies were cooked so that they were still a little firm and added some textures. The mashed potatoes were creamy, and the gravy was slightly thickened and slightly salty but in a good way. Lots of rich flavors and very filling! The other four had various issues with their food being cold and incomplete orders. Even toward the end of our drawn out meal, our server kept disappearing. The food that I got was the ratings saver for this review. Our server played keep-away for so long that the restaurant was closed before we even paid for our meals. This resulted in us being able to easily find our cars in the nearly empty parking lot. read more

I like this place! But I have to return before I can give more stars. I've been in the area for various events but I've always noted how trendy and cool it looks. I came here with a few of my friends on a Wednesday evening. I love the design and open air decor here and the clientele mimics how I see myself. Sophisticated, fun, sexy. We gathered at the bar for a quick cocktail while we waited for our table. I had the Hot Girl Summer....yaaaaaas! Refreshing and strong! Shortly after, our table was ready so we closed out at the bar. Minor thing-I wish they were able to just transfer our bar tabs to the table rather than having to run our cards twice. I was eyeing the pot roast/brisket looking meal but at the last minute I ordered the Chicken club while my friend ordered the beef. I love a good chicken sandwich. Mine was absolutely tasty but I found the chicken cutlet to be embarrassingly small and the sandwich had more avocado than anything else. Maybe a fluke. It was still very tasty so I just ate it. Maybe God was telling me to limit my meat intake that day. I also ordered fries. You get a very large serving of fries so consider sharing an order. I'll be back for more cocktails and desert! I do like this place. The host was welcoming and although the wait was long ( I thought they forgot about us), He came and checked on us. When we were finally seated our waiter was attentive and I noticed they staff worked as a cohesive team. For example, we were a party of three, and besides our main waiter two other waiters were helping us as well. Excellent service. The food was fresh and good. I visited on a Sunday. They offer brunch but I opted for lunch items. The design of the space is decent as well. I really like how these old buildings are being re-purposed to more creative multi use social spaces. Like, this location has three modern business in it. Outside you see people skating and just enjoying outdoor space. Below this restaurant is a beer and wine bar.
