Since the first time I went to this restaurant, I have always liked to come back as much as I can every time I have a spare moment or if I am around the place. This restaurant is a great spot for breakfast and brunch. It has a designated location which is very accessible. It is a small spot, but it is always clean and bright. The ambiance is also nice. The staff are very accommodating. They would always greet every customer with big smiles on their faces, and they are so polite too. Their menu does not have a variety of options, which is why my only favorite is their chicken sandwich. When it comes to the food, everything I order is always fresh and hot. I love their fresh and hand-cut fries, which are always crunchy and seasoned to perfection. It also has a huge portion, which is definitely reasonable for its price. Then, their chicken sandwich, which I really love. Like the fries, the chicken sandwich also has a huge portion, especially the chicken. The chicken is so huge that it is crispy on the outside and definitely tender on the inside. It also has a nice flavor or light seasoning to it, which is why I love it so much. It is also topped with some fresh veggies, making it taste even better. I just really love this spot. The service is great and the food is delicious, plus the prices are reasonable. When this restaurant first opened, the line during prime lunch time was very long. I walked passed here during lunch time today and the line is still very long! The hype is real. I've been here twice and I built my own fried chicken sandwich and pimento cheese stuffed portobello sandwich. The toppings I got with both are cheddar, pimento, lettuce, housemade pickles, peach coleslaw, agave buttermilk, and spicy mayo. Both sandwiches are delicious but I definitely prefer the pimento stuffed portobello. This restaurant is a must try but definitely go at 11am or after 1pm. read more

During the week, I've come to view breakfast as the best meal of the day, and the reason is one of the South's best exports--chicken biscuit sandwiches. I've had quite a few around Chicago, and I'm really excited to add Boxcar Betty's to my list of must-eats. Let's get this out of the way first--I've only had a chance to eat lunch there once, and due to schedule issues had to eat the sandwich quicker than my dog eats food she stole. So this review is about the breakfast biscuits. I'll update later when fate allows me to each my lunch in a more languid fashion. The biscuit itself is good--fluffy, but not to the point where it can't hold up to the chicken, but baked long enough for a light browning. Some places make the (in my opinion) mistake of having very thin biscuits, and I'm happy to say this isn't one of them. The biscuit by itself would be a nice breakfast with one of their multitude of tasty sauces (the bacon jam is fantastic), but it really shines once they slap the fried chicken on. I'm always a proponent of adding a slice of cheddar cheese on top (preferably after the fact, as I find fully melted cheddar to be something of an abomination), but either way, the chicken is delicious; nicely seasoned with some pepper and various spices, and fried to perfection so that it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The patties aren't the thickest, but it's a breakfast sandwich, so it's probably better that you don't walk around with a whole chicken roosting in your stomach until lunch. Unless you're absolutely starving, the sandwich itself is the perfect size to get you going. For some people this next point might not be a big deal, but to those of us on a budget (gotta save some money for beer!), the chicken biscuit is a steal. For somewhere around $4 (including $0.25 for the cheddar), this is one of the cheapest chicken biscuits you'll find around, and still one of the tastiest. It's a crazy deal for a breakfast anywhere in/around the Loop that doesn't start with "Mc," and it's quick and fresh. If you like fried chicken, give this place a try. If you like fresh biscuits, give this place a try. If you don't like either, go back in time 5 minutes and don't read this review. But definitely give Boxcar Betty's a shot; the world would be a much happier place if we all tried to eat more chicken biscuits. read more

This is THE best chicken sandwich I've ever eaten. I got a "regular" sand, breaded chckn lettuce tomato Mayo on brioche bun. Chckn was hot, seasoned richly and perfectly tender and moist. Mayo was big disappointment. Small drop of Mayo on center of bun, that's it. When I opened up sand, I couldn't believe the lack of Mayo, but after I had eaten half the sand I realized it was so ****ing delicious. The juicy breast made up for low Mayo. The chicken sandwiches are perfect--my kids and I got the simple sandwiches and my husband the signature Boxcar--and we all loved them. Nice sauce selection, too. This is SUCH a hidden gem in Ogilvie! The biscuit and chicken breakfast sandwich is probably the best I've ever had. The biscuit is so buttery, soft and flakey, it just melts right in your mouth. The chicken is lightly fried to the perfect amount, not overwhelmingly fried. It's also so savory and melts in your mouth. I love treating myself to a breakfast sandwich and a coffee to start off my work morning. And it's so reasonably priced, with amazing quality ingredients. Deliciousness with a side of southern hospitality I had heard that this place was opening up, and expected it to be busy. I am not sure that I expected lines out the door--lol. There's a reason for that, though. The food is amazing and like nothing else in Chicago. Lots of places talk about serving "Southern" cuisine but these guys back it up. The fried chicken is legit. I like Chik-Fil-A but its not really a fair fight, like comparing a Ferrari to a Corvette (except the cost is basically the same). I would guess that the chicken is brined before it is fried--that's why it's so juicy. The chicken had a beautiful brown crisp, using seasoning that gave it an additional flavor, not just a coating. The Peach Slaw and Pimento Cheese makes the sandwich way different from anything else in town, and bring in flavors that make it unique. I also had a milkshake which was made from real ice cream and the sweet potato fries. The fries had a very interesting seasoning--a hint of sweetness--and they were crispy and delicious. The service team was also very nice and proficient, despite the long lines. I has to be difficult to keep a smile on your face when you are cranking out a long line, but they seemed pretty jazzed to be open. I would definitely return. I never order or eat fried chicken sandwiches, but Boxcar Betty's is now the exception for me. I had the Boxcar and it was fantastic. Great crunch and tenderness to the chicken. Absolute perfection. The condiments (pimento cheese, peach slaw, spicy mayo and pickles) provided a tasty balance of spice, coolness, and texture. The portion size was great. Came here for lunch and absolutely loved it! You can taste the quality. The chicken itself was super juicy and the breading had a nice flavor to it. 10/10 would recommend the fries as well. The food was good and I like the natural cut fries. I found it particularly harmful customer service that you asked the couple next to me how their food was and their response was only mediocre about the food but they found the ice cream Devine. You never asked me my thoughts about the food or service. It is important to SEE ALL of your customers and not just those who happen to LOOK like you. The place is just basically a good spot, and, of course, with good food. I went here for the first time just to try their food since my friends were encouraging me to pay this restaurant a visit. I go by this area a lot, but I never got to try this one. their menu is the first thing I noticed, that is placed on their wall. Their menu is basically just options for chicken sandwiches. I got to choose my own protein, and the choices were fried, grilled or pimiento-stuffed chicken, and I chose the fries one. They also have a "build your own sandwich" option. I also add their hand-cut fries to my order. The prices, I must say, are fair and reasonable. It is not expensive and it is also not too cheap. The customer service is excellent, as the prices. The staff behind the counter is very nice and friendly. The restaurant is small and, although there are seats available inside, I choose take-out for my food. The service is somehow quick. There was a short wait, and after that, I was able to receive my food fresh and hot. The food has a nice portion. The chicken sandwich is not too big or too small. The chicken was nice and tender. I also like the spicy mayo in the sandwich, which gives a nice kick to the flavor. Overall, it tastes really delicious. The hand-cut fries are fresh, hot, crispy and well-seasoned.
