After some bad experiences from unskilled workers on a neighborhood list, I highly recommend Boyers for workmanship first of all! My craftsman was Humberto, who did an amazing job of refacing and restoring all the cabinets in my home. The customer service was very good as well working with my budget, my time line, and my own ideas about design. However, Humberto gave me pointers on so many things including pulls and knobs which I learned and appreciated very much. He was done in three days, with only assistance on day one. We had our kitchen cabinets refaced by Boyars approximately 6years ago. Our experience and satisfaction would rate 5 stars. Recently we have been experiencing a couple drawers sticking and being very difficult to pull open. It's as if some of the adhesive is causing the problem between the cabinet face and back edge of the drawers. I called the office and was told to provide pictures of the drawers, copy of contract and warranty. By email we submitted documents and pictures as requested. Today we received a phone call telling us that their customer service supervisor had looked at the pictures. Because the problem is occurring beyond the warranty period there is nothing they can do. I told the person that I understood the warranty period and stated that I was willing to pay for someone to come out and look at the problem ( pictures didn't really show the problem ). She stated that they wouldn't do that. We were shocked at this lack of customer service. Not what we had experienced 6 years ago. We were thinking of asking for a quote on refacing our bathrooms (3), laundry room, and linen cabinet. Guess we need to look to other businesses. Repeat performance from Boyers. This time it was refacing and updating hallway linen closet and drawers. We made an appointment for contract and measurements - and all went swiftly, professionally and on time. Installation scheduled - and again - spot on. The linen closet doors and drawers (and there are a lot of them) are beautiful. Installer completed the job and left area (wood floors and carpets) in pristine condition. Saw an advertisement in the news paper for kitchen and cabinets. Ok, let's go for it. Had the estimator come out, write it up and everything looked good. Said we had nothing to worry about, everything would be taken care of. *Work was supposed to start January 22nd. Work started February 19th. *Kitchen cabinets resurfaced painted and new hardware. Hardware not level and I didn't know you could reuse old wood to patch up new work?? *project manager unorganized. Very poor communication. *When EVERYTHING is included on the estimate, estimate yourself to get more charges. Super annoying. *Had our credit card charged for full complete work. Found this out when We got an alert for a charge on my credit card company. Thumbs up guys. Work incomplete. Charged the full amount. Wow. *Contractors/workers had an attitude. But if you hate your job, we understand. It's now March 5th, still incomplete. Take this information to your next estimate. Good luck. **update** 03/22/2016 According to the reply from the business Below "Melissa" states that she does not have me as a client. Correct, she has my mother who does not have a yelp account. (which is why this was written in the first place. Rather than owning up to their work ethic and craftsmanship that was reflected in my "mothers" home, which I reside in when I am not in "Los Angeles", the company simply states they do not "paint " or offer services in Los Angeles. Well Melissa, the work was done in Chula Vista. You wont have me as a client, and the gentleman who came over to the house asked to remove this review, yet I believe it only deserves an update. before this escalates or you want to deny that I am a not a client, I only hope this will shed light on the poor quality of how your company does work, treats their customers and handles issues that arise in everyday contracting. I am 90% complete with my Boyar's reface. Like any homeowner, I had a lot of wants, but only wanted to spend a certain amount. JULIE T, our designer, worked to show me where I could get the best 'bang for my buck' suggesting simple things to make the job more 'custom' and thoroughly discussing my ideas that were not the best use of my money (removing the soffits). Julie has been amazing during the entire process, always responding to my messages, providing the guidence I would expect from a designer. Julie met us at the granite yard on three different occasions to help with the selection process. UMBERTO, our installer was beyond amazing. He treated our home as if it were his own and was so professional and pleasant to work with. His work is outstanding. The only drawback to the entire experience, and I will not reduce Boyar's rating for this; is the 'general contractor' they suggested for a window enlargement was a 'pain' to work with. His work is fine, no fault there. However, our job was very small in comparison and I always felt like he didn't have time for us, he kept telling me he was 'SLAMMED, BUSY and would SQUEEZE me in. I told him from the beginning that if this just was too small for him, to let me know and we'd both move on. I was so frustrated with getting him out to trim my new window, that I did it myself and I couldn't be happier with the results. I could go on and on about the General Contractor, but will stop here. The Boyar's coordinator from the office, ANGEL D, has always kept us in the loop about scheduling and what we needed to do to be ready for the next step. She took some heat from me regarding the contractor and always kept her professional demeanor and worked make sure I was satisfied. I visited the Boyar's showroom after my initial visit with JULIE and met the owner, BERNIE, he was a very passionate about his business and the reface process. I know that if I need further follow-up that Julie and Bernie will both be there to help. Our project will be complete on Tuesday and will post pictures after that. We have already recommended Boyar's to two other families and would highly recommmend Boyar's for kitchen or bath needs. We look forward to using them in the future for bathroom remodels. read more

It's unfortunate that some people leave crappy results without having the intestinal fortitude to leave their full name. You put your shitty initials and write a bad review. I contacted Boyars and they came out, of course every company is going to try to sell you a dream. Will they be true to their word remains to be seen, so us as customers we absolutely have to do our "due diligence " I liked my initial meet up with the salesperson "Devora". Really am thinking of hiring them. Unfortunately we all as humans, 90% of the time will be remembered for what we did wrong instead of right. Most of the reviews are great here and it seems as this lady Melissa answers most of the reviews , but like I said bad reviews stand out more. My beef is the people that seem sketchy with some of these bad reviews. Boyars did a fantastic job with our kitchen. And for thousands less than Home Depot. So glad we gave Boyars an opportunity to give us an estimate. Home Depot tried to come closer to the Boyars quote, but HD was going to cut several corners (no soft-close drawers that Boyars includes, no dove-tail drawers that Boyars includes, etc.) and they still were thousands more than Boyars. Boyars did a fantastic job, and all workers were friendly and professional. Boyars quote, involving primarily refacing but with 2 brand new cabinets to accommodate a built-in microwave, was only a 9 day job (spanning over a single weekend) whereas HD estimated as long as 2 weeks. They understand the inconvenience of being without a kitchen, so when possible, they schedule jobs that only span a single weekend. Our salesperson, Melissa, was very friendly and down-to-earth. She had a nice idea of giving our new countertop a slight curve to give it some character, which we had not considered. Even better: no extra cost. Melissa helped us pick out the granite and backsplash, and she made sure we understood the contract, 0% financing option, etc. Several weeks later, Angel contacted us with a detailed schedule of when each step of the project would be done. It deviated a bit in the middle, but it started and ended on schedule. We were very impressed. Tony was the cabinet guy who did the refacing and installing of the new cabinet. He is the BEST. Friendly, professional, and great attention to detail. He carefully protected our floors and appliances as he worked and cleaned up each evening. Give the man a raise. The guys from Arizona Tile did fantastic work with our countertop and backsplash. Again, friendly and professional. After the job was completed, we had noticed a few minor issues. One was a tiny nick in one of the cabinets. I asked Angel if they could provide some touch-up paint. She told me they'll make a whole new cabinet door and install it. What service! We also needed another shelf, which she said they'd bring and install when they came out to replace the cabinet door. It took a couple weeks for them to prepare those items, but a new cabinet guy, Jeff, came by to complete that work. He was every bit as good as Tony. Another thing needed fixing were a couple minor sink/plumbing issues. Angel had the plumbers return the next day to fix those. Everything looks fantastic and works great. Another benefit of Boyars is that they have a good relationship with Pacific Sales which is nearby the Boyars office. For the couple appliances we needed, Pacific Sales was able to give us fantastic discounts from their already good sale prices because we were Boyars customers. Angel (and later KC) kept us informed along the way with scheduling. Very pleasant and responsive to our emails/calls. One area of improvement for Boyars to consider: After great initial meetings with our salesperson, Melissa, we never really heard from her again. We expected periodic contact to see how things were going, or at least a call after completion to see if everything was done to our satisfaction. So we'd recommend that the salespeople do a better job with staying in contact through the completion of the project. All in all, very happy with the work they did and would highly recommend them. read more

I am so glad I went with Boyars for refacing instead of buying new cabinets. Our cabinet boxes themselves were still sturdy so there was no need to replace them and create more junk in the landfill. And it saved me thousands of dollars. From the time I visited their office to the end of the project everything went smoothly. Melissa was the salesperson who came out and discussed options and pricing with me. I liked that she was able to give me the quote on the spot and didn't make me wait until she got back to the office. It was a busy time of year, leading right up to the holidays, but they scheduled my countertops before Christmas and the cabinets immediately after, the soonest possible according to what they already had booked. The installer, Jerry, was very professional and also personable, which is always a nice bonus. He took a lot of care and it was obvious that he had high standards for his work. A few days after the install was finished, I noticed a dent on the edge of one of the cabinet doors. I had a lot of doors installed, 20+ so I hadn't seen it right away. I emailed Melissa and although she was out, someone else from the office got right back to me and within a couple of days had come out, retrieved the door, and took it back to the shop to fix it. That was late last week and today he brought it back, good as new. That was a good test of their customer service, since sometimes you don't know how a company will respond once a job is finished and they've cashed your check (or processed your card). read more

I used Boyers about 10 years ago to reface some cabinets in a small condo. I was very happy with the job that they did at that time. Now, ten years later, they just refaced all the cabinets in my kitchen and in a powder room. Melissa was very knowledgeable, experienced, and down-to-earth when doing the bid, and assisting with the project as it went along. Humberto, the installer, was amazing! He was so talented, neat/tidy, and detailed in the work that he did. He completed the whole install by himself, and I was VERY impressed with his artistic skills and attention to making everything just perfect!! I will definitely request him to do further projects in my house when the time comes for that. I give Boyars five stars, but less than that for the counter top people that Boyers used. While the finished counter top is beautiful, the installers were pretty sloppy. They never covered my ceramic tile floor the whole time that they went in and out of my house and worked in my kitchen, and they did not put anything up, like plastic sheeting, to block off flying marble dust or saw dust. Just had both our Kitchen and both bathrooms as well as the linen closet refaced using wood materials. No complaints from start to finish. They came on Monday and were finished by 1PM on Friday. Boyars did a refacing job in our kitchen in early January. They came on schedule and finished on schedule and our refacing job looks good - just as described and expected. The two workmen were polite and worked hard. However, beware that if there is any damage to anything in your kitchen, Boyar's will not take responsibility. We were not told the refrigerator would need to be pulled out and the workmen did it without protecting our hardwood floor or asking us if we had anything that would have anything to protect it. It was done before we knew it and it scratched our floor pretty badly. We asked them to send someone out after the job was done. Reluctantly one man came out and said he would return and try to repair the damage. We never heard from him and after several calls and emails nothing happened. The only thing we were told was that we had signed a disclosure agreement releasing Boyar's of any responsibility. This disclosure agreement was a part of the paperwork related to replacing old appliances with new ones which we were not doing. I hoped that they would come through so I wouldn't need to write this review. Very disappointed. read more

We needed to upgrade our kitchen and chose to reface our cabinets. We got 3 bids and Boyar's was near the low end of all of the bids. Julie the designer came out and gave us some great ideas on top of what we had wanted to do. From the time we signed the agreement we were told installation would be in 3-5 weeks. Arturo and Fernando started four weeks later and really hit a grand slam. The cabinets look great and they took great pride in their work. The project was to take 3-5 days and they finished in 4, arrived everyday at the designated time and cleaned up at the end of their work day. I would highly recommend Boyar's. read more

We used Boyars and the project was completed last night. I must say that I am very, very happy with the results and our new kitchen. Our new kitchen is stunning - it is a beautiful update to our home. I am especially impressed with the workmanship that went in to the cabinetry. The doors and all new surfaces make the kitchen look like a model home. Jeff (the installer) was very thorough throughout the entire process. He would not leave the house or call the project complete until everything was 100% perfect. WHen i called Boyars, the person there claimed they had no direct phone number for me. I referred to the email they sent out, and only asked that i call in if i wanted to change the appt. Well, the only thing I wish I could do is give Boyar's Kitchen Cabinets a 10 star rating! I hired Boyar's to remodel my kitchen and bathroom cabinets and all I can say is they did not disappoint. Beginning with my sales representative, John Demko, through my fabulous installation. John guided me through the entire process and made it completely seamless. There were no surprises and his input was invaluable. When it came to installation, Boyar's sent me the A Team, Hector Sr. & Hector Jr. (father & son). It is rare to find such quality craftsmen that exert so much pride in their work, but Hector & Hector do impeccable work. The kitchen and bathrooms were finished to perfection. Having just completed an entire house remodel top to bottom, I was privileged to have Hector & Hector work on my home. I'm very pleased with the cabinet refacing job done by Boyars. After getting quotes from two other company reps who had to give me a 2-hour spiel before they would even give me a cost estimate, I asked Melissa to save us both some time by giving me a ballpark number. She agreed and after 10 min of measuring, she gave me a range which I felt I could work with and was willing to hear more. The meeting was professional, seemed honest and lasted less than an hour. I felt confident in the company and years of experience each person had in his/her role. No gimmicks, no false promises. The project began a week before projected (how often does THAT happen!) and was expected to take 5 full days. It ended up taking 4 full days and 2 half days and both Laura and Tony were quick to communicate any changes or needs. I can't say enough positives about the work that our installer, Tony, did. He is meticulous and thorough; he even "corrected" issues that were created when the original cabinets were built (eg. non-squared cabinets, gaps). I was able to continue using my kitchen and the mess was minimal. The final result is beautiful and the overall quality actually exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Boyars! read more

I just finished a kitchen refacing project with Boyars and could not be happier. I was hesitant to do this because I was under the impression that refacing might be less attractive and is just a cheaper way to get new cabinets. I was wrong ( except on the price, which is a lot cheaper) But the result is stunning. Stacey helped with the choices and designing some new built ins and Hector was the installer. He was absolutely a pleasure to work with and the end result is beautiful. It took five days, just as promised. My husband told me to write a review on yelp because he is so impressed. Finished product = 5, process getting there = 3. We had modern style cabinets but the boxes were good so we went with a more traditional look and got all new granite counters and backsplash as well. Cost was competitive. HOWEVER, salesman Bill was a nightmare. Wrote up order wrong (in my favor) which I pointed out to him but he said it was correct. MUCH later reneged and realized his mistake. Ordered the finish at least three times as he kept forgetting or losing my choices. Their estimator was an overworked grumpy guy who showed up at the house with an attitude ("We can't replicate that spice rack!" he grumped). I said that was because we weren't going to use it and Bill knew that. "Oh" was his reply. Finally got together with project coordinator and it awesome. Even got some concessions for all the delays caused by sales. Installation team professional and knowledgeable. When work finally started it was completed per the schedule laid out. One mistake which they made good on was the installers covered the base of the dishwasher with base board which I pointed out didn't look right to me. When we had to pull the dishwasher back out to adjust the legs they came back and fixed. Ironic that the operations team had more sales skills and professionalism than the sales guy! read more

Boyar's actually deserves less than 1 star, but that's not an option. So they're getting over rated. Lucky them. I do not recommend this cabinet company, by any means! This isn't some buyer's remorse vendetta on my part. I genuinely don't want someone else to deal with an unprofessional, unimpressive, less than mediocre company like I did. I'm certain there's got to be a better company out there if you want to reface or refurbish your kitchen. To be specific about my review, Boyar's Kitchen Cabinets sent someone who didn't know how to do their job to my house, to redo my galley kitchen. (It was obvious the guy was winging it and was trying to mask this, and his resultant mistakes, by explaining the was was taking a long time because, unlike other craftsmen, he really cares about his work and he wants to do it 'right.') The person took 3 times longer than he should. He tore a hole in my screen door ultimately from going in and out so many times. He made significant errors on some genuine basics of the work, AND tried to hide it! When I discovered the problems three weeks later, Boyar's sent a 'fix it' person to come over and do the least amount possible, in the least amount of time, at the least cost to the company. Furthermore, the company representative stated that because Boyar's wants me to be 'fully satisfied' with the work, they don't compensate or reimburse customers. They don't believe in this because they're goal is to do the job right. Well its too late for that. I'm still waiting for them to get it right. Their 'fix it' person came out and, no kidding, made it worse! The project started in August. It is now mid-November. So while I'm still waiting for my problem to be solved, to the next customer, don't bother if you are considering this company. Go somewhere else, and save yourself the headache. If you do choose this company, hold the last check. Get on them right away when you see a problem. And do your best to hold them accountable (again - hold the last check.) read more

I am happy with Boyars. We are very specific people and the saleman did a great job at answering all my questions and providing me with all the information I asked for. ( and it was a lot of it...multiple style prices, provided me with various color samples on different wood types). The installer was polite and professional. He even pointed out issues on doors that needs to be replaced that I hadn't even noticed! The replacement parts came in in a timely manner. As I said, we're very picky people and Boyars never had any issues with the things that I wanted fixed. I am unable to comment on their lifetime guarantee as it's only been about 6 months. But no issues so far! I would recommend Boyars. As far as price goes, I think they offer better prices. Boyars prices included slow close hinges, dove tailed drawers and various colors...all of which were upgrades with the other company. And Boyars price was less than the others company's without all the upgrades! Quality of wood....probably the same with both companies.
