Hidden Donkey Escape Rooms is located in Irvine in the Skypark Business Center. Waivers must be completed upon arrival, so be sure to arrive a little early to get them signed. Their main lobby has lockers to store any belongings you don't want to carry around for the following hour. They have two rooms here and we decided to do the "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Dragon Wand" room. The entrance for this room is at the back of the building. After checking in, you will go back out the front door, and your game master will lead you outside and around to a door at the back of the building. The initial room is unique with its very high ceiling which gives it a very spacious feel. It makes great use of every square inch of space with great themed décor and interaction. While it has some traditional puzzles, a good part of the flow is pretty different than your average escape room. You discover, put together, and figure out what spells to cast when and where. You even get to mix up some real potions. Our game master Habby was friendly and very helpful as we needed quite a few nudges. I think we went a little over an hour, but we were close, so he graciously gave us a little extra time to finish up and escape. Anybody who is into the wizardry theme will absolutely love this room. For a small group of two, their rooms are expensive at $60 per person. But the price drops to $40 per person for three or more. As spacious as the first room is, I think the remainder would become crowded with any more than four people. We had a real fun time doing this room. Their other "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Goblin's Secrets" room has a little higher difficulty level, so we'll bring a few friends along when we return to try that one. If you are tired of the run of the mill escape rooms with mostly just locks, this room at Hidden Donkey definitely is a breath of fresh air and worth a try.

Amazing!! Cody was an exceptional gamemaster for me and my family. My husband and I frequent escape rooms when I can, but my mom and her fiance have never been, and we were with my 10 and 16 year old brothers. I've done both the Dragon Wand and Goblin's Secrets. I feel like both were equally challenging, and I'm happy to have done both. My 10 year old somehow completed a challenge with no clue. and Cody was very impressed. I would definitely recommend this place for kids and adults alike, because we were stumped a few times! The rooms have great interaction and a lot of movement/magic happens. The max players is 9 or 7 depending on the room, but I wouldn't really go higher than 6 for either of them. Really great bang for the buck! We got out of there each time with only a few minutes to spare- exactly how a good room should be.

We had a good experience doing one of their rooms. The wands you choose from for the game were sticky/grimy from multiple uses. The game master was very friendly. The theme is a great plus if you're a HP fan and like escape rooms.

What an amazing surprise. We've been to three other escape rooms and this one is easily the best. The props and storyline and "tasks" ... everything was incredibly high quality. Challenging and fun at the same time! Can't wait to come back.

Such an amazing escape room 10/10 recommend ! If you love Harry Potter and all the wizardry stuff this escape room is perfect for you . My husband and I came here the other day for date night and we loved every minute of it. From the puzzles and from being so interactive with the wands . Really have you feeling like you're a student at hogwarts . This place is perfect for a group of friends that loves to solve puzzles and a great place for team building or if your on a date this is where you should go to test your skills on solving problems . I will definitely come back to try the other games they have . Our game master was very patient with us for being only two people trying to solve the problems as we went . Thank you hidden donkey for an amazing experience! We will be back ‍

We just completed the Dragon Wand escape room last night and had a blast!! We had 4 of us total which felt like the perfect number. Any more and it would've felt like too many cooks in the kitchen! My husband and I love doing escape rooms but we've been finding that the past few rooms we've done have felt like the same thing over and over again. Opening locks, finding codes, no real imagination. But this room was such a nice change of pace!! They really immerse you in the world of wizards and the puzzles are extremely creative and fun. We got out with a few minutes to spare! Also, we typically do horror rooms, but this one is not a horror room and we still had a blast. We can't wait to come back and do their other room!

My 9yr daughter and i did the Dragon Wand game. It was fun and very well decorated. Was impressed! We this was maybe my 8th or 9th escape room and some hints from the "Headmaster" were needed throughout, but it was alot of fun and creative. Would go back to try the Goblin one next.

The Irvine School Of Wizardry And The Dragon Wand room certainly impressed me and I can see why it is highly rated. The interior design is extremely detail oriented and well done - it's no wonder this is a popular escape room for many. The puzzles were just the right amount of challenging and some were fairly unique to this location. Highly recommend!

Ask the Community - Hidden Donkey Escape Rooms

Is this too scary for a 5 year old?

It'll totally depend on your child. There are no jump scares or spooky images. There are a few loud noises when you get a puzzle correct or wrong. And, the whole setting is dimly lit and dark. So, if being in semi-darkness for an hour is scary for… Read more

Would this be too hard for a group of 9 year olds?

We did some heavy lifting in that room, so without an adult? I'm not sure. There was a part about degrees of a circle.

Does it have multiple rooms as you clear the first room? Is it like the one in Irvine spectrum the escape game?

Yes! There are multiple rooms :)

Is this Harry Potter specific, or just magic? We aren't big fans of HP but fantasy/magic is good . . .

It is not a specific Harry Potter escape room. No Harry Potter knowledge is needed, it's a general magic theme, school of wizardry.

Is this place good for 12yrs boys birthday party?

Yes, it is a perfect place for it, but at least one adult in a group must participate.

Why is it called Hidden Donkey? Is there a hidden donkey in the room?

    Yes

We began with the Aji tuna on crispy rice, topped with a delicate sliver of jalapeño and crispy shallots, a perfect balance of freshness, spice, and crunch. The second course was Stefanie's famous focaccia...one sweet and one savory. The savory version featured parmesan, her homemade bread and butter, pickles from her garden, and a touch of mustard seed. The bread, made simply with flour, water, and salt, takes two to three days to create. The sweet focaccia was equally impressive, topped with brie, honey, and a guava jam made from her own garden-grown guavas... truly special. Next came the sweet potato course, made from her garden's harvest and paired with roasted pine nuts and coconut-shaved gnocchi in brown butter. The flavors were rich yet comforting, and the presentation was artistic and thoughtful. The main course... short ribs with a stunning potato gratin, was a showstopper. The short ribs were tender and deeply flavorful, garnished with delicate edible flowers from her garden, while the gratin was layered beautifully and topped with a fragrant chimichurri. Dessert was one of the best I've ever had: a sticky toffee date cake with a caramel apple sauce made from apples in her garden, served with raw cream vanilla bean ice cream. The balance of warmth, sweetness, and texture was perfection. The wine pairings, thoughtfully curated by Oscar from Sequoia Grove Winery, elevated the entire experience, from the velvety Merlot to the bold Cabernet, every sip complemented the food flawlessly. What makes Chef Stefanie so special is her warmth and authenticity. She shares her passion for food and where it comes from in a way that's engaging and educational, never pretentious. She spends time presenting each dish beautifully, with an artist's eye and a chef's heart. Her artistry, attention to detail, and genuine love for her craft come through in every course. I'll absolutely be attending her future chef's table events, a beautiful evening of intentional cooking, soulful flavors, and gracious hospitality.

We took the one-time pottery class and it's nearly impossible to get ahold of them. After your class you're supposed to get an email a few weeks later to schedule glazing. It's a great concept and fun but would not recommend this business to anyone.
