Hidden Donkey Escape Rooms is located in Irvine in the Skypark Business Center. Waivers must be completed upon arrival, so be sure to arrive a little early to get them signed. Their main lobby has lockers to store any belongings you don't want to carry around for the following hour. They have two rooms here and we decided to do the "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Dragon Wand" room. The entrance for this room is at the back of the building. After checking in, you will go back out the front door, and your game master will lead you outside and around to a door at the back of the building. The initial room is unique with its very high ceiling which gives it a very spacious feel. It makes great use of every square inch of space with great themed décor and interaction. While it has some traditional puzzles, a good part of the flow is pretty different than your average escape room. You discover, put together, and figure out what spells to cast when and where. You even get to mix up some real potions. Our game master Habby was friendly and very helpful as we needed quite a few nudges. I think we went a little over an hour, but we were close, so he graciously gave us a little extra time to finish up and escape. Anybody who is into the wizardry theme will absolutely love this room. For a small group of two, their rooms are expensive at $60 per person. But the price drops to $40 per person for three or more. As spacious as the first room is, I think the remainder would become crowded with any more than four people. We had a real fun time doing this room. Their other "Irvine School of Wizardry and the Goblin's Secrets" room has a little higher difficulty level, so we'll bring a few friends along when we return to try that one. If you are tired of the run of the mill escape rooms with mostly just locks, this room at Hidden Donkey definitely is a breath of fresh air and worth a try. read more

Amazing!! Cody was an exceptional gamemaster for me and my family. My husband and I frequent escape rooms when I can, but my mom and her fiance have never been, and we were with my 10 and 16 year old brothers. I've done both the Dragon Wand and Goblin's Secrets. I feel like both were equally challenging, and I'm happy to have done both. My 10 year old somehow completed a challenge with no clue. and Cody was very impressed. I would definitely recommend this place for kids and adults alike, because we were stumped a few times! The rooms have great interaction and a lot of movement/magic happens. The max players is 9 or 7 depending on the room, but I wouldn't really go higher than 6 for either of them. Really great bang for the buck! We got out of there each time with only a few minutes to spare- exactly how a good room should be. read more

Absolutely incredibly fun escape room! On Halloween, my friends and I wanted to go out and do something that's wholesome and fun. After a quick Yelp search, I decided we should go to this one because the wizard theme seemed more fun to me than horror stuff. The gamemaster we had was super easy to work with, and made it all the more exciting. This escape room gives you unlimited hints and it doesn't affect your time! The escape room we did was the wizard and wands one, and it was super fun! Our group of 5 manage to make it out within 58 minutes with only one hint. There were some things that was a little tricky, but ultimately, you don't need to know a whole lot of prior knowledge to make it through the puzzles. They're located in the business plaza, and can look super unassuming from the outside, but definitely so much fun! read more

We had such a great time at Hidden Donkey Escape Rooms in Irvine! Our group of 5 did the Irvine School of Wizardry room, and it ended up being the perfect number of people -- everyone got to be involved without it ever feeling too crowded. I've done a couple of escape rooms in LA before, and some of my friends have done several, but we also had one first-timer with us -- and everyone left saying how much fun it was. The room itself is decorated beautifully with tons of detail, and the animatronics were seriously impressive and added to the immersion. The storyline was whimsical and engaging without being over the top. Without giving anything away, the puzzles were a great balance of challenging but doable. It took us 58 minutes to get out (with three clues), which felt like the perfect sweet spot -- never frustrating, but definitely kept us on our toes, especially at the end. Our game master was super friendly and welcoming, and set us up for success right from the start. Another plus: plenty of parking! It's located in a business plaza that was practically empty on the weekend, so it was easy to find and stress-free. Overall, I'd highly recommend this room, especially if you like a mix of fun storytelling, cool effects, and puzzles that make you think without making you feel stuck. Can't wait to come back and try the other room! They are also adding another experience onto the Irvine Wizardry room next year that'll create a different puzzle. Hidden Donkey escape room is located in a business center, had plenty of parking available with some small trees for shade. They do on-site waivers so make sure to show up a little early! We were really early, about 40 minutes and there was a spacious waiting room you can hangout in while waiting for your game. We did the Irvine School of Wizardry and the Dragon Wand and let me tell you as a fan of Harry Pottery, this room was truly awesome and immersive! The design of the room was really beautiful and I really loved the use of the initial item you get to choose. Although there were not that many puzzles compared to other rooms we've done, we felt that the unique puzzles that you do get to complete were so great. We also got close to failing the room so despite not having as many puzzles, the puzzles are time consuming and challenging enough that you won't be finishing too quickly. The room itself was incredibly nostalgic and we had a great time. We just completed the Dragon Wand escape room last night and had a blast!! We had 4 of us total which felt like the perfect number. Any more and it would've felt like too many cooks in the kitchen! My husband and I love doing escape rooms but we've been finding that the past few rooms we've done have felt like the same thing over and over again. Opening locks, finding codes, no real imagination. But this room was such a nice change of pace!! They really immerse you in the world of wizards and the puzzles are extremely creative and fun. An intriguing escape room for the young and old. The location is a bit hard to find. It requires a minimum of 4 person to participate. We visited there on a Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm. There wasn't any one before us so we got to start right away following a lengthy directives from the attendant. We were led into the room at the back of the premises. The place was a bit different from other escape rooms in that the design and challenges were ingenious making it one of the more difficult escape rooms we've experienced. One draw back was that the room area was a bit too dim and it made it worst trying figure out the clues. Luckily there were helps if one asked for it. That we had to do several times. We finally made it out with only seconds to spare. It was quite a different experience! At the end the attendant took a photo of our group that turned out to be a great memento. Be prepared for unusual challenges and frustrations in these rooms in case you want to try it. As a suggestion, read the framed instructions on the wall in the reception room carefully before you start the game! read more

Very unique experience! The goblin room was challenging, especially with just two people. But there were some impressive effects, and I appreciated that the game master walked us through the rest of the room, even though we didn't finish in time. I thought the hint system was not that effective since the hints were mostly prerecorded, and we had trouble understanding the hints when it wasn't the game master specifically helping us. As someone who has done a plethora of escape rooms and prefers a smaller party to maximize the experience, this wizardry escape room makes one of my favorites for its commitment to theme, interactive elements, and ease of team play for around 4-5 people. This game style holds a linear fashion but allows multiple items and problems to be solved simultaneously to get to the linear progression which I appreciated. The decorations and use of items in the room and props for the game is so creatively done - the middle activity of this game is one of my favorite escape room experiences (which i won't reveal but made me truly feel like one with the wizards haha). I also loved the game master and the lore - you'll be audibly reminded at the 30 min and 15 min mark of time passage! The difficulty level is roughly medium - there were some puzzles that were more straight forward and mostly others where you had to give a think. It was perfect for a group of 2 seasoned players and 3 newbies. Also, as a harry potter fan, this escape room was definitely satisfying! When you enter the front office, it's a small meeting room where you can store your personal items in a locker and use the restroom. There are fun posters on the wall that you can warm your brain up with. You'll then be guided to the room and start the experience. They're currently in the midst of releasing a second room, so i can't wait to go back and solve that puzzle when it's released too! read more
