My brakes had been squeaking for awhile, so I finally called and set up an appointment (forgot who I spoke to but they were super nice and it was super easy). I went in the next day to have it serviced. Mike and his team were really nice and helpful. I really appreciated the free estimate and how informative Mike was. I went in January and got my rotors resurfaced, brake pads changed, and a few other things that were recommended I should do to "stop the brakes from squealing". 1) My brakes never stopped squealing 2) A few months later my car was vibrating every time I hit the brakes From the very beginning I was hesitant about going to Brake Check because they fit the profile of a shop that will take advantage of you. I recently talked to a brake specialist and they confirmed my suspicions (warning me that these types of shops usually use cheap parts that won't last long and will keep you coming back for repair). I was also told that my rotors should have been replaced rather than resurfaced, another thing they do to keep you coming back. In the end, I went with another brake specialist and got my rotors REPLACED and new brake pads for LESS than what I paid with Brake Check. read more

It bothers me when I am mistreated at a business in Austin because I have been here for over 30 years and have been treated well at many businesses. However, when a business decides to mistreat me and do not provide any worthy customer service, I must let other people know so they can make a conscious decision to do business with the place. Brake Check is the business I that get zero stars for customer service. I have been coming to Brake Check for more than 5 years with good service and reasonable prices. On October 18, 2015, the service advisor recommended a front wheel brake job. After the completion of the brake job I was happy but noted that one of my wheel locks was missing. I told the service advisor about it and he replaced my wheel locks with a set of aftermarket wheel locks a couple of weeks later on my vehicle. I was satisfied until Discount Tire the next year told me that my wheel locks did not fit correctly and that my wheel could come off with the locks on my vehicle. I immediately called Brake Check from the Discount Tire store to let them know about the issue. Discount Tire decided to replace the wheel locks with Honda lug nuts for free due to a major safety issue. It has been over a year and Brake Check has not replaced my wheel locks with a Honda or Acura part. In matter of fact, Brake Check told me that Discount Tire was lying and wanted to sell me some wheel locks. I told them this could not be true because they did not charge me for the Honda lug nuts. Whenever I would go back to the Brake Check store on Research Boulevard, they kept giving me the run-around. Then they told me the guy that promised me the Honda or Acura wheel locks worked at the Cedar Park location. The Cedar Park location told me the no longer worked there. Fast forward to May 25, 2018. I spoke to Michael Murhead at the Research location and I asked about the wheel locks and he told me that I was a trouble maker, raised his voice at me and told me that the problem has been taken care of. I looked at Mr. Murhead confused because no one had called me or contacted me concerning the wheel locks. I really did not understand how a problem could have been solved and no one contacted me. I asked Mr. Michael Murhead if he could look at my vehicle because it was shaking when I braked at speeds over 45 miles per hour. I just had my front pads replaced on February 15, 2018. He made an appointment for Saturday May 26 at 9:00 AM. When I came back for my appointment, I spoke to Shawn Tibbetts. I told Mr. Tibbetts my problem and he mentioned that the rotors were not turned in February. I told that I did not have any vibration until the new pads were installed. I informed Mr. Tibbetts the turn the rotors. An hour later, he told another person named Morris to tell me that I needed two new rotors and brake pads for a total of over $300. I have to inform everyone that I ran away from this place as fast as I could. According to price estimate sheet, I was quoted two rotors at a cost of $251!! Once again, the purpose of this review is to prevent other people from being treated the way Brake Check and Michael Murhead treated me. I implore everyone to check the business ratings you patronize. Compare prices and definitely ask about the manufacture of the part you are receiving. If you are being charged original equipment prices, you should get the Original manufacture part. As of May 29, 2018, I still have not received any Honda or Acura wheel locks. I took my new SUB in for a Balancing for the very 1st time. And after 3 hours they told me one of my tires are bad and THEY SCRATCHED all 4 of my rims. So they told me don't worry we will fix it for you so great I believed them. Now 2 months later they still never got back to me and the manager ignores my texts and calls. When I walked in I was very hesitant as I know how women can be taken advantage of and I thought that what they told me on the phone was going to be a different story once I got there. Well, they were true to their word and it cost exactly what they told me on the phone. They were quick too. I was in and out in a jiffy. There were other women in there too, so I knew this much be a great place for us single gals. Anyway, they didn't try and stick me with upsells or other troubles they found. Run, Run, Run!!!!!!!!They are the worst. I went to get an oil change and the next day my brand new driveway had puddles of hot oil everywhere. I took the vehicle back and the mechanics made like it was a pre existing issue. However, I was told to pay for the parts and the labor would be free, but then at the end it wasn't honored. I called the head manager Brian and he was an complete "ASS HOLE"!! Non caring attitude.He was not willing to work with me. I was upset because why would they take my money and let me leave, they could have informed me of the leaks and the old residue . I still believe they caused the problems. I took my vehicle in because the brake pedal was spongy. After having a discussion about what needs to be done( I was informed my master cylinder needs replacing as well as the power booster along with brake pad and shoe work) I agree to $345.03 dollars worth of work that (they claimed, I have no faith in their ethics at this point,) needed to be done. This was all work on the pads and rotors. When I pick up my vehicle I'm informed the brakes are now very stiff.(what I didn't get told was they may not stop my truck)The traffic was very thick on my way home and the pedal is so stiff I can barely make it respond,I was terrified. .My RPM's were racing up and down also. I get home (safely thank goodness, I was truly scared.) Now at this point I'm puzzled. Why would my brakes go from being spongy and my vehicle running fine; To the pedal being so stiff and my idle be off ? So I pop my hood to take a look and discover the vacuum hose to my power booster was disconnected.(with the hose disconnected the vehicle would appear to need the expensive parts they wanted to put on...) The technician let me leave full well knowing, with that hose disconnected,(hence the stiffness of the pedal) that I could have been in an accident. It seems that making money was worth possibly endangering my life or others. Do Not go here , it could mean possible injury, death even, to yourself or others. read more

Was able to get some much needed repairs for my car on a Sunday. Found an underlying issue with my wheel that was causing other problems. The manager was very patient with me and explained everything very well. No complaints. This is the north Austin / 183 location. Would have given 4 stars but adding a -1 star because there was an alignment in there that I didn't know about or didn't know was being done. That being said, I would go back again. read more

Brake Check has an easy system of setting up appointments online that also gets you a good discount depending on their availability. Easy system to use. When I arrived they were there to help right away as per my appointment time. It was quick service about 1 hour for my front brakes and they made some great recommendations that I'll have to go back for. They even put air in my tires because they noticed it was low! After a few off-roading trips it was time to take the rig in for an alignment. I've got the lifetime alignment deal (highly recommend) so it costs me less than $5 now when I go. My ABS light was on so the guys there were cool enough to check the code for me, it turned out to be a rear sensor. At $25 each for ABS sensors I could have spent $100 and a full day trying to figure it out but thanks to them I saved $$$ and didn't have to spend my day under the Jeep. read more

I am not a car person. I don't know an engine from a strut. Every time I visit a car dealership to have work done or get my oil change, I feel as if they are selling me something I don't need that's overpriced. I hate getting anything done to my car. However, that is not the case here. David, the supervisor, treats each customer with respect and provides straight forward information on what your car needs to be safe, whats recommended, and never does any work without first getting approval. Bottom line: You can trust David and the rest of the staff at this location to treat you fairly and provide you honest service for your car. I accompanied my son to have brake work done at Austin's Research Blvd. Brake Check location today (9.20.13) and, I have to say, this was THE best customer service and most pleasant experience I've ever had with getting auto repair work done anywhere - including work my husband and I have had done over the years at various dealerships. Trey was exceptionally friendly and helpful, showed us exactly what parts he was looking at throughout the pre-work inspection, then spent a good deal of extra time giving us various options (since my son was footing the bill himself for the first time). I probably would never have thought to go to Brake Check myself but told Trey and the manager, Dave, who was also very helpful and friendly, that because of their excellent service I will definitely be giving them my business when it comes time for work on my own car. read more

To Whom It May Concern: Brake Check I would like to give a shout out to by then the Store Director George Stout and his team; John, Hugo, Billy, and Carlos of the Brake Check location on 20310 Hwy 59 North location in Humble Texas. I was exceedingly pleased with their service, their dedication, their professionalism and their courteous service as they worked on my Honda Accord. This was my first time dealing with Brake Check. I had seen on a billboard that customer satisfaction at Brake Check is a top priority. Not mentioning the Right Parts, the Right Price and leave alone doing it Right. This almost became a haunting nightmare until I met George and his Hwy 59 North location in Humble, Texas. I had earlier on taken my car to one other Brake Check location in the area. The manager there was very nice. Had my front brakes pads replaced and acquired a lifetime alignment. The service was nice and the guys there quite friendly. However, two, then a month and almost a month after the pads were replaced the brakes were constantly squeaking and worse when it rained. Something was not right. I went back several times and each time they looked at it they could not find the problem. It really bothered me greatly because it did not feel safe driving this car. So, I decided to go back again and see if I could talk to manager I had met. To my surprise that very manager had been moved to the Hwy 59 North location in Humble. I drove there desperately to talk with him, when I got there, that very day he had been moved to the Woodlands Texas location. It was disappointing. You see, with my lifetime alignment, they could not align the right rear wheel of my car. The store director told me I had to take it to Honda for alignment because it was a manufactures limitation. I took it to Honda for alignment and paid $99 for another alignment only to be told at Honda that Brake Check had the same alignment machines and there was no manufacturer limitation whatsoever. This too was disappointing having paid handsomely for a lifetime alignment and brake work with Brake Check. But, before I left the 59 North store location, John asked me if there was something they could do. I explained to him the dilemma of the brakes and alignment and how disappointing this was. He and the guys in the store pulled my car up and began working on it only to find out that the previous Brake Check store HAD PUT WRONG PADS on my car! They were not only put on wrong, they were not the right size. They were loose. I was shocked and wondered. Where is that dedication of doing it Right with the Right parts at a Right Price? But, George and his team were committed to doing it right. They ordered two sets of pads that seemed the right fit but they were not. They looked until they found the right parts, the right size and now I am so happy for their work. Since then I have not heard any kind of squeaking coming from the front brakes. They went above and beyond to make sure that I was satisfied with their service. I wish I could get a refund of my $99 for a wheel Brake Check could not align even though they had the newest machines. I am writing this as a thank you note for George Stout and his team, but I am also writing this to bring an attention to the Honda models especially the new models. Please Brake Check match the brakes rightly. I can only imagine what would have happened to my new Honda and me. For technician to have put those pads on knowingly they were not a right fit, beats your very slogan doing it right with right parts. Not only was that unprofessional, it is a safety issue concern. Could you imagine what would have happened to me with the busy traffic in Houston? Those guys are my heroes. They not only fixed my car, they saved my life. Now about the alignment, I wish I did not have to pay extra to Honda to have the same work that could have been worked on at Brake Check. Oh, well, I hope this helps out a bit in training your technicians and mechanics for a better tomorrow. I brought my car in for an alignment and was told I needed 500 plus in parts and labor to be able to get an alignment done. I took my car to Austin's Finest Alignment and my car was aligned perfect not needing any parts. I called them on the lies and was told I would get a call from corporate to resolve the issue since they could do refunds at his store. I waited 2 weeks to see if they were going to follow up before I wrote a review to give them a chance to make things right. No call or follow up from the manager or corporate. Thank goodness I paid with my credit card and disputed the charges and was reimbursed by my bank. PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE OR RECOMMEND THEM TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS. I was prepared to pay for the work if my car needed it but not willing to just throw money away if it didn't. If I could give this location no stars I would. The advertised price for an oil change was $44 for your first time because of the $10 off. BEWARE this price does NOT include an oil filter. I walked out paying almost $80 even after the "$10 off". The total cost was still more than if I were to go to the dealership which is ridiculous. Save yourself from this shady establishment and go to the dealership or somewhere that isn't as slimy. read more

I have come to this location for many years. there has been changes in the people working but have always had a good experience. I went there recently because of alignment issues with a used car. the dealership said they did it, but upon getting the free 2 minute Alignment, it showed how badly it was out of alignment. the guys here at Brake Check did the alignment and the car was sooooo much better. they did not try and rip me off, lie about what they saw or try to force me to get something I didn't need. when you do that, you'll have loyal customers because they WILL come to you for other things when it's time. I took my car to a Houston location originally, twice, for my brand new brake pads squealing (purchased and installed elsewhere, new rotors too). I told him it just started after having these installed so it must be the fronts. But no, he tells me it's the rear and pads needed replaced and rotors turned, so I did it. The next day they are squealing again so I took it back and they turned the front rotors. A week later my brakes start grinding so I take it to this location and they told me the brake pads were defective and needed new ones, as well as rebuilding my caliper, so I did it. Two days later they are grinding yet again so I take it back and they turn the rotors once again, now my brand new rotors need replaced and I still have grinding. I too was leery of taking my car to a brake shop but unfortunately I don't know anyone here who could do them for me. Needless to say I am livid, after $600 and my brakes are still grinding, I feel everything they have done was unnecessary since I have issues that I didn't have prior to going to Brake Check.
