I went in for transmission fluid change earlier in February in my Toyota Camry 2018. I bought OEM Toyota transmission fluid and asked Joe to help do drain and fill.The drain and fill was completed. After that there was a rough driving issues started. I went back to show my car to joe and he drove the car he told me he don't see any issues. I wanted him to check transmission fluid port on if there is low transmission fluid he didn't agree and told me I might be overthinking. I went to different mechanic in April and he checked. I paid $100 to reopen the port for transmission fluid and what we saw was no fluid came out from the primary port. He added 0.5 quarters left. The issues I have had for rough idle and need to have higher RPM on slope went away completely.According to him you have to keep the car running when you drain the fluid and you need to have it at the right temperature he said the drain and fill wasn't done correctly that's why there was still room for fluid. The viscosity of the fluid makes a difference in how much you can fill and drain. He double checked for leakage and there were no leaks either. When I went to joe and asked about don't you have to keep car warm to see if temperature is right? He said you only do it when there is a leak. I don't think Joe knew enough about mechanics of New car. I wasn't overthinking when I went to ask Joe for help and asked to recheck the transmission fluid. I paid $260 for labor only( $160 to Joe and $100 to another mechanic) for same job. It's really absurd. Overall this could have damaged my transmission. I think for future the customer advise should be taken seriously. I know my car well so I know when it's not acting good. I have been driving it from 10 years.

BEWARE -- Serious concerns regarding transmission service and lack of accountability…read more I brought my vehicle to Valvoline for a "transmission fluid service," trusting that the service would be completed properly by trained professionals. Unfortunately, just four months later, my vehicle began having serious issues and was unable to shift into gear. I had to take it to a mechanic as an emergency repair, where I was informed that the transmission fluid service appeared to have either not been performed correctly or not been completed at all. During the inspection, my mechanic found that my vehicle holds approximately 8-9 liters of transmission fluid, but fewer than 4 liters were drained. The fluid that was removed was thick, black, and extremely dirty -- not what I would expect after a recent transmission fluid service. I was also advised that there was a possibility my transmission may have suffered damage due to the condition and level of the fluid. I filed a claim with Valvoline hoping they would investigate the situation and work with me toward a resolution. Unfortunately, I was told that everything was done correctly and that they would not take any further action. The manager, Carlos, stated that he reviewed the service and that the same fluid removed was the fluid that had been put back, explaining that discoloration can be normal due to residue. However, the condition of the fluid and the amount removed raised serious concerns that were not addressed. I also informed them that on the day of service, the team had me wait an extended period because they needed to call and confirm which transmission fluid was required for my vehicle. I have supporting documentation, including receipts, videos showing the condition of the fluid, and my mechanic's findings, but my concerns were dismissed. Valvoline was once a convenient and trusted option for me, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Mistakes can happen, but refusing to acknowledge a customer's concerns or take responsibility when there is evidence supporting their claim is extremely frustrating. I hope Valvoline takes this feedback seriously, reviews their service procedures, and prioritizes proper training and customer care. Customers trust you with their vehicles -- that trust should be earned and protected.

I was simply asking for a professional second opinion. If a shop refuses work because they're concerned a customer might "get upset," that raises serious questions about confidence in their own work. A reputable shop stands behind its skills and diagnoses issues regardless of who previously touched the vehicle. Changing the explanation publicly after the fact does not reflect well. I stand by what I said. I had a very disappointing experience at Automotive Instincts in Northridge. I called and spoke with Steve about looking at my car after another shop had worked on it, and he basically told me they didn't want to touch it because another shop already did the work. His reasoning was that he didn't want me to "get upset at them too." That makes absolutely no sense. As a customer, I'm simply looking for a professional second opinion or proper correction if something wasn't done right. Refusing to even inspect the vehicle just because another shop previously worked on it feels unprofessional and dismissive. Cars get worked on by multiple shops all the time -- that's normal.
