They tried to rip us off, I would not let them. This all happened about 6 months ago, but due to work, am just now able to post our review. My wife and I moved to Tucson AZ about a year back, and about 3 months after moving out here our car was having AC issues. They took it in and fixed it up no problem, even met a guy named John there. He made a great impression, as he was honest, upfront, and straight to the point with me (something I appreciate). He even set us up with a BreakMax credit card to help pay for our air conditioning. I'm the type of person where once I find someone I like, I stick with them for years (ie car mechanic, plumber, etc...) I was feeling good, as we had just moved to a new state and it seemed we found a good solid mechanic almost instantly. Well that all changed a few months later. This time we needed to get a tire rotation and a simple oil change. Since they treated us right the first time, we went back to get the work done. Went in, they took it back, then about 1 hour later, John (the same guy) comes out and says, "well, we had it up on the rack, and I saw a water stain on your gas tank. I want to check it out to make sure you don't have a gas leak." Okay sure, safety first, gotta respect that. Then he said, "It's going to be $500 just to look, plus any work that we have to do." I was a bit in shock, as I had only taken it in to get a tire rotation and an oil change. I'm not even sure why it was up on the rack, but whatever. I asked him, "you're telling me you want to charge me $500 so you can remove the gas tank and just check? He said in a VERY condescending tone, "well you want to be safe, don't you?" I was a bit insulted, as he was implying I do not want to keep my family safe. Then before I could say anything, he says "I know you have the money, just put it on your credit card I got you last time, the BreakMax one." Gone was the helpful employee and now, here was a GIVE ME YOUR MONEY NOW guy who was not afraid to belittle a custom to get what he wanted. I told him NO, take my car off the rack, and do not do ANY more work to it. Paid the bill and left immediately. Then took it to another mechanic called "MidCity Auto Repair", and oh boy what a difference. The mechanic there put it on the rack, and within about 2 minutes, told us it was just some water that had leaked down. Even put a drop on his finger and let me smell, it was definitely NOT oil. Didn't even charge us for anything. BreakMax, you just lost potential lifetime customers, and since this has happened, we have told everyone we know to stay away from BreakMax and their $500, I just want to check it out pricing. STAY AWAY from this business, they will RIP YOU OFF!!! read more

This is now my go-to repair shop. Service and staff have been professional, price has been fair. They have never tried to sell me something I have not needed. They were able to honor a battery warranty that another BrakeMax had blown off. The ability to make an appointment online was convenient. They now have been given the service for all the family cars. I don't like to be "shown" via gimmicks that service is needed (Goodyear Service Centers). I don't want to be kept without a car because I am a patient person. I want a professional at the front counter. At this BrakeMax I get a professional at their front counter and in the service area overlooking work being done to the car and able to inform me of the progress. Price has been fair and reasonable. the place is horrible I took ,y 2002 Oldsmobile intrigue in to get my ac working and the ac still dosent work and hasn't since I took it in to brakemax the same day I took the car back and informed them that my ac still wasn't working I was then told by the technician who serviced my car that the ac wasn't going to work because something was wrong with my harmonic blancer and that he was told by someone at brakemax to still work on my car I then spoke with the manager and asked him why would you work on my ac if you knew that something was wrong with my harmonic blancer and knowing that the ac was not going to work I then asked for the corporate office phone number and still haven't gotten it so I asked for the district managers phone number keep in mind I paid 600 plus dollars and nothing works the district manager to;ld me that brakemax would maker it right and they still haven't made it right I went and started my car and then it suddenly died on me and would not start anymore I then had the car towed back to brakemax and explained what had happened they checked or say they checked the car and now the story was your ac compressor siezed up and that's why my car wont start I explained to them why if I had a diagnostic test done on my car when I paid 600 plus dollars that the technician who worked on my car had already informed me that my compressor was good but they had to replace my blower I then asked the district manager and the manager what did I pay 600 dollars for and was told by them that I paid the 600 plus dollars for hoses and these same horrible place horrible manager horrible district hoses cost about 34 dollars at auto zone and if I wanted them to fix the problem it would cost me 1350 dollars for damage that they themselves messed up I then asked them both to give me the number to there corporate office and was told that they were as high as I could go so now I have to try and get the number on my own so I paid 600 plusv dollars for something that has not worked from the day I took it in to them and I paid 600 plus dollars for some hoses and then another 150 dollars for a tow only to be told by brakemax give me another 1350 dollars for something they messed up horrible place unprofessional manager and district manager the manager finnaly tried to give me corprate office phone number and guess what he gave me a fake number then told me when I confronted him that that was the only number he had a fake number that he made up they don't even deserve 1 star at this location Tucson marketplace bootleg mechanics read more

I can joke with them, Mike has a great since of humor and they always call me to let me know if I need to do more to my car. The last time I took my truck in because the refrigeration was only working intermittently. I was told I needed a new compressor for $1000. Visited my daughter in Tucson to find out her A/C didn't work so i did my due diligence and looked for highly rated A/C repair shops and found Brake Max on Pantano Rd. I was informed that the unit needed a new compressor. We had it replaced for just over 1K only to find that the cool air was blowing out of the lower vents only. Since i paid to have the A/C repaired, i expected it to blow cool air out of all vents, yet was informed that the vent issue was electrical and needed the actuator replaced which was not included in the original estimate. I spoke with Shawn, the shop manager and he agreed to repair it at no additional charge. I think that was fair and would recommend them for your service needs. read more

Going the extra mile for a customer seems so rare these days and yet my experience here at BrakeMax on Pantano requires that I make a public announcement about the excellent customer service I recently received. I went in for an oil change in preparation for my road trip to Amarillo, Texas. The gentleman at BrakeMax told me that I had a nail in my rear left tire and though they don't "do tires" he gave me several referrals to places that do. Knowing that I still had warranty on the 4 NEW tires I purchased last year from the auto shop ironically named for the mythic god whose touch turned everything into gold, I went to Midas to get my tire fixed. There at Midas I was given an extensive and expensive list of things that needed to be fixed on my ancient car, a practical overhaul on my engine, including a mention that all my engine fluids were low. I received a scoff by the MIdas man when I told him that my engine was thoroughly checked no more than 15 minutes prior at BrakeMax. I asked the Midas man to please check my tire as I was preparing to go on a long road trip to Texas and to ignore the other engine fixes I needed as I was trying to keep my expenses low. While I waited, I observed the Midas man tell a couple who inquired about how much longer they would have to wait for their oil change that he "couldn't justify putting a $12 dollar oil change ahead of another customer who may have a bigger ticket item to fix." After my tire was merely patched at Midas and I was sent on my way, I returned to BrakeMax to check on my engine fluids as I had smelled a burning which made me think that perhaps there was a legitimate problem. I was taken in promptly and courteously. The BrakeMax attendant showed me that some of the oil during the oil change had merely dripped onto the engine and was creating the burning smell, and assured me that he would clean the excess fluid off the engine to stop the smell. He told me that they checked all of the engine fluids and that they were good. The BrakeMax attendant however showed me that the nail hole which Midas had just patched had a suspicious looking crack running from the hole and told me he was concerned. He asked me if I had a spare tire. I told him I did but I wasn't sure if it was any good and that it was currently beneath a trunk packed full for my long trip. This is when the excellent customer service I was already receiving went ABOVE AND BEYOND ALL OF MY EXPECTATIONS!!!! A little later the BrakeMax attendant came back to tell me that they had removed my entire trunk contents, pulled out my spare tire, found that it was flat, filled it with air, replaced it and all of my trunk contents during the time that I thought they were merely cleaning my engine! And sure enough when I went to check my trunk, only one item was a little out of place, but it was repacked just as carefully as I had originally packed it. I want to thank all the folks at BrakeMax on Pantano for their special care and most excellent customer service!!! Thank you for making me feel like a valued customer, and kudos to the BrakeMax heros who took the time and effort to go the extra mile for my safety. The Greek god himself wouldn't have touched my trunk or my tires for less. You have made a forever customer out of me.
