Walking into the place you get an instant cowboy vibe. The place is decorated tastefully and is a longstanding part of Pine Valley. The food is great and the steaks tender and well cooked. After a lovely walk through Pine Valley, my wife and I were in search of lunch and found the Brandin' Iron in town. When I think of a Steakhouse, I think of dinner, but they had a terrific lighter menu for lunch. I ordered a salad and my wife got the BLT-we both darn-near licked our plates clean, it was so good. The ambience here is rustic, mountain and small town with the service you'd expect in such a place. Our server took good care of us and our orders were just what we asked for. The raspberry iced tea was delicious. I look forward to returning for dinner and trying one of their steaks-I can imagine how good it probably is. read more

Eating there combines an evening when you can step back into time and get an incredible steak! I love the wood paneling, the feeling of being in the 60's again and the home town, old fashioned service. Servers who are excited to be there ... who treat customers like family. This restaurant is so much like restaurants that were everywhere during mid-century. Over the decades, most of those have disappeared. It's so worth the drive. A real destination place. read more

Thinnest driest toughest Ribeye I have ever had. My husband and I both ordered them and his was tough as well. Almost too salty with seasoning to eat. We went to the Branding Iron Saturday night. The ride up and thru the valley was worth the trip by itself. The ribeye was tender, delicious and more than I could eat. One of our group had the filet and ordered it well done. It came out sliced and cooked in three thin slices well done. I guess they cut three thin steaks to get it well done. I thought it was strange but my friend liked it. Total waste of a great piece of meat I thought. Different strokes I guess but I'd scream if they served me a steak like that. Oh well. We went here with our car club. We had pre-planned our visit by ordering in advance. Our server did a great job and all 30 orders came out correct. Everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. A great little gem in the mountains, they also have a nice little ice cream store next door. read more

Iconic! The Branding Iron is the only place to eat in this beautiful historic town. If you're hungry, you better make a reservation or be LUCKY. This Cowboy, Ranching, Deep Family Roots, Restaurant is the perfect high mountain meal you can expect! Prime Rib, Steaks, Salmon, Chicken, potatoes, sides , rolls, salads , burgers and local hand made dessert and pies. It's all so good, so fresh and so flavorful. This isn't a chain restaurant, so plan on waiting a bit, relax in the cool mountain breeze, enjoy the rustic wood beams, walls, volcanic rock fireplace and the cowboy photography. We come every chance we get. Our favorite are the Filet and Salmon, Burgers and Ribeye. Oh... And Mountain Berry Pie. The Staff and Servers are all great and seem like family. If they seem busy they are, so give them a little patience. The Branding Iron is open May thru October Friday and Saturday only. With exception... Pretty good place for such a tiny little town to have, but unfortunately my experience was no good at all. I will frequent the Pine Valley area going forward, so if I feel differently about this place in future visits I will update my review. The main issue I/we had was with service, but the food was sub par as well. I came in on a Saturday evening, and they were fairly busy, but I was just getting a takeout order so I asked how long it would be. The hostess told me it would be 20 and MAYBE 30 minutes at the very most, and that was only because they had just sat a large group. I commented that I would likely be placing my order before the large group, so that shouldn't be an issue, but she said that they take the orders in order of who was here first rather than who places their order firs.... WTF? So anyway I just sort of ignored that cause the 20-30 minutes though a bit longer than I wanted was fine. I waited outside for about 20 minutes, then came back inside only to find a chaotic scene of people all waiting either for to-go orders or to be seated. Once family was told they would be seated in 5 mins, but they were there for at least 25 minutes before they were sat, and even with that there were empty table in the place. The person family sitting next to me was also waiting for a to-go order, and they were getting very impatient, so I asked when they placed their order and she said "over an hour ago, and they told us 20 minutes". So now I'm starting to panic since I'm only at 25 minutes to this point, and my wife and toddlers were waiting for me at a campsite without cell reception to warn them of the timeframe. I was about to let them know I was just gonna walk out (since I hadn't paid), but then the family next to me finally got their food, so I took the chance of a hostess being around to ask how long mine would be. She said mine was "up next, and would just be loaded in bags shortly" so I decided to hang out. All in all I waited 50 minutes total to get 1 cheeseburger and 1 order of chicken fingers! The cheeseburger was dry and flavorless, the chicken finger order was TINY there were 3 chicken fingers only about 3 inches long, and they had a really strong old fry oil flavor, and the ranch dressing for dipping was literally less than a tablespoon in the little cup. Really this was easily less than a 1 star experience, both food and service, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt for being a bit busy (they really weren't that busy, but compared I guess to the size of the town, and what they may have been expecting), and because it is a nice little place inside, and easily a better restaurant than I expected a town of this size to have. read more

Was approximately 90 degrees in restaurant, with no AC ordered chicken with mashed potatoes , chicken was ........well chicken , mashed potatoes were something left over from previous week . The rest of the party had prime rib that had to be re- heated from another day. And the sweet potatoes was plainly put .... a science project! I absolutely cannot not understand the low ratings I've seen for this restaurant. We've not been here before and we are not locals but we were treated very well upon checking in with our reservation. Everyone was very cordial and welcoming to us and we were seated during a very busy time within a few minutes after our reserved time. We were seated by the kitchen and I asked if we could be seated a little more out of the way from the kitchen traffic. Megan the hostess quickly asked if upstairs would be ok since it is not used much because the AC doesn't reach there as well as the main floor. The AC felt great on the main. Kelly, our completely awesome server, escorted us upstairs, opened the two upstairs windows in the loft and the temps were perfect. In fact, it was awesome being the only couple upstairs in the two table loft and we had a great view of Pine Valley from where we ate. Nice! Kelly made sure we were very comfortable along with Megan checking in once in awhile to see if we were ok, which we were. I ordered the burger after seeing a few patrons having one that I saw and looked delicious. I KNOW my burgers and this was very good. The patty was a good size and cooked just right. I added cheese and bacon and enjoyed the burger very much. My wife ordered the salmon, and to my surprise due to her being very particular about salmon, said it was some of the best salmon she has ever had. We get around a lot folks and that's a tall order for pleasing my good wife. Seriously, I have rarely ever received better service than by Kelly in the restaurant. And I will definitely come here to dine again and i strongly recommend it. Make reservations to be safe because this steak house is popular. They told me they serve over 150 patrons each day they are open and I believe it by the happy crowd I saw. read more

When you are the only place in town, I guess anything sounds good. I only go there bc friends live nearby and that's their only choice. Definitely nice to be in cool Pine Valley, but the food is so so, and not worth the price. My steaks and especially burgers are always over cooked. They were bought out 5 years ago and I can only assume that they have gone down the path of serving slop since. Miserably hot in the restaurant, no a/c! Which may have explained why the staff weren't really happy.... After an hour wait we finally seated and it took almost another hour to get our food. They were out of prime rib, which was a blessing after reading other reviews now. The sweet potatoes were yams and the waitress wouldn't take them back after I expressed that they weren't what I wanted. The only thing that I was even able to eat was the chicken and rice soup, which was actually delightful. We were seriously disappointed because this place used to be our favorite.... now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! read more

I have to agree with Tyler B and his comments. We visited on 6/24 again 90 degrees outside and inside. We were seated and placed our order. We all ordered prime rib, medium rare with salad. I asked for balsamic vinaigrette, what I got was just balsamic vinegar. When the prime appeared it was well done and had a grayish tint to it.The Au Jus looked like pure grease, it was clear in color. We all sent it back. The waitress returned and stated that all of the prime rib in the kitchen was well done, as they served prime rib for lunch. We had to ask for her to leave our sides as we were starving. After about ten minutes we inquired about when we would receive our steaks. She stated that because so many people had come in and ordered we would have to wait for them to get their food first. Really, you serve overcooked prime rib and now you make us wait forty minutes for our new dinner. Most restaurants at this point would be apologetic and possibly offer you free dessert or reduce the price of your meal. NOT HERE!!! I wouldn't dine here again if the food was free. Like Tyler I don't think my dog would have eaten the prime rib either. The only part of the meal that was good was the bread. Isn't that sad??? Just learned this restaurant is for sale. We decided to stop by after a day of hunting and unwind with a nice dinner. When we got there, we got told it would be a ten to fifteen minute wait....while we looked around the restaurant we couldn't help but ask ourselves why, seeming there were empty tables everywhere. After we got seated, we picked up a menu and decided to order the prime rib dinner. Keep in mind it is the only item on the menu that is highlighted and acclaimed as the best thing to get. Our waitress comes around to place our order and tells us they sold out hours ago, she didn't seem to care much and was not very friendly. This is the point where I knew it was good to be a not so satisfying experience. We decided to go with the ribeye, pretty simple right? When they set it down, we immediately could see that it was 50% fat AND burned. I like my steak medium rare and this was definitely a well done. I ordered sweet potatoes as my side and couldn't believe what I got. They were regular potatoes dipped in some sort of cinnamon sugar. Disgusting. This was overall a bad experience for us and we will not be coming back. Prices were ridiculous for what you get. When we heard the lady next to us complaining that she was going to feed her steak to her dogs we should have known better. read more
