Holy smokes! Best meal of my life. This place is phenomenal. The views. The steak and sides. The cocktails. The STAFF! My sister and I were in town and treated ourselves... I can't even describe how perfect our dining experience was. The hostess was lovely and welcoming. Our red-headed server was fabulous, an absolute wealth of knowledge, she helped us curate the most incredible meal with cocktails and dessert. Her recommendations were spot on, we had an incredible evening. We shared a the funeral potatoes appetizer, wedge salad, ribeye, creamed corn, and pumpkin butter cake. Each dish was beyond amazing. And I live in Vegas - steakhouses are everywhere - and I've dined at the best of 'em. Basalt is next level. Be ready to be wowed. Trust your server.

Spoil yourself here! We did and don't regret it. We loved our dishes we chose both nights we dined here. I had the Butternut Squash Gnocchi and the Sea Bass the following night. My husband had the filet and ribeye. I didn't know seasonings could dance in your mouth so well! Let me tell you, get the Tallow Fries! Those were excellent! Our favorite server was Maxwell. He was attentive and so friendly and knew his stuff! Thanks so much!

The food was amazing!! Such a great atmosphere and our waiter, Jonathan, was top excellent. He was so helpful and knew the menu so well! We will definitely be back! Get the creamed corn!! Best thing I've had in a while! And the crème brûlée! The bread was also delicious. Warm and the honey butter. Chefs kiss.

Food was amazing, we had the New York steak, potato butter, Caesar salad and gnocchi. We also had a few of the coffee creme cocktails (forgot the name). Jonathan and Emma were awesome and super friendly and helpful. Amazing views from the restaurant, especially at sunset! Will definitely be back

This is the new restaurant at the Black Diamond resort - first the bad - we waited until 8:00pm for our reservation at 7:30pm - their team made up for the wait by giving us appetizers on them - food was amazing and service was behind but made up for it as the evening went on - super memorable dinner for a hefty price

We came to Basalt to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary, and sadly, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. When our server greeted us, he asked if we were celebrating anything. After we said it was our anniversary, his response was, "I've already had seven anniversaries today," in a tone that made us feel like an afterthought rather than welcome guests. The service continued downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to ask three separate times for it to be decanted. Our server later apologized for a "salad delay," even though we hadn't ordered salad. Fifteen minutes later, another server arrived with a salad for our table, only to shrug when we told him it wasn't ours. After some back and forth, it was finally clarified that we had ordered the crab cake. When it eventually arrived, it was heavily over-seasoned and overpowered the taste of crab--definitely not a dish I'd recommend. At this point in our experience we had been seated at our table for over an hour without food. The confusion didn't stop there. A manager came to our table to apologize for running out of a ribeye steak entrée and offered to upgrade us to a more expensive steak at the same price--except we hadn't ordered the ribeye steak. She left to figure things out but never followed up with us again. Our entrées finally arrived: my diver scallops were bland with undercooked Brussels sprouts, while my husband's Wagyu steak was just okay--nothing special for the price. The one highlight was the creamed corn, which was absolutely delicious. To end the meal, our server cleared our plates and simply brought us two desserts we hadn't ordered (a crème brûlée and lemon cake). We would have liked to see a menu and choose for ourselves, but I overheard they were out of several items. The desserts were fine, but nothing memorable. After 2.5 hours of mistakes, confusion, and underwhelming food, we left disappointed and honestly relieved to be done. At one point, while waiting for our appetizers, we debated just paying for the wine and leaving, and in hindsight, we wish we had. For what's billed as a fine dining experience, the service and food quality were far from it. We will not be returning and cannot recommend Basalt.

Hamachi ceviche. A bit heavy on the sauce but fish is fresh and delicious.

The hostess seated us promptly (with luggage in tow). The restaurant is pretty spacious, so that worked out just fine. We enjoyed our food (a cobb salad for me and a burger for her). Janessa was our server and she was lovely and attentive. We then made a reservation for a larger group for that Saturday evening and Kyle and Mia helped us out... The reservation needed adjustment last minute due to a change in schedule that day and after multiple phone calls, they were able to accommodate that change. Note: it seems there is not a direct phone number to the restauarant so I had to work with someone in the hotel lobby for this. Interestingly enough, we ended up having dinner here on Friday as well with a large group. Huge thanks to Kyle and staff for working with us that evening... We worked out a large group order to-go but sat down for our drinks. Need to know: Due to Utah Liquor laws, adults who are drinking alcoholic beverages must be seated... that was a new fun fact I learned when making the reservation. On Saturday night, the restaurant had a bit of a condensed menu and they were out of salmon, which was a bit disappointing, but after having 3 meals here, we do recommend the wings, nachos, and burgers. The area in the back of the restaurant with games including ping pong is great for the kids and there is also a grassy area out back too. I know that this restaurant is fairly new and working out the kinks... I look forward to returning in the future as I know it will continue to get better.

I specifically mentioned that we were hoping to watch Supercross, and I was assured that wouldn't be a problem. However, when we arrived at our reserved time, we were told they would "look into" changing the channel because they weren't sure they could access Peacock. We decided to stay, ordered drinks and appetizers, and checked in multiple times with our waiter. Each time, we were told they were still working on it. After waiting for over an hour, we were finally told they couldn't put it on after all. The most frustrating part is that we would have completely understood if they had told us upfront. We could have made other plans and gone somewhere that could accommodate our request. Instead, we spent a significant part of the evening waiting and hoping, which took away from what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration. Afterward, I noticed similar feedback from other guests about difficulties getting channels changed, even when it seemed possible. That was disappointing to see and makes it feel like this may be a recurring issue. The service itself was polite, but better communication and follow-through would have made a big difference in our experience.

First of all we had our two kids with us and they immediately brought out a plate of apples for them to start snacking on. Very thoughtful and helpful. I couldn't eat the biscuits but my husband and kids devoured them. They looked incredible. I will be dreaming about the brussels sprouts until I return. My husband and I both agreed they were the best we've ever had. The chicken was great too- would have preferred white meat and additional sauce but still good. When we arrived we waited for the host and informed him we had a 10:15 reservation. Despite there being multiple empty tables, he informed us we would not be able to be seated until closer to our reservation which threw me off. We were seated around our reservation time and given some time to look at the menu. Our server was very helpful and kept checking in on us to see if we had any questions or if we were ready to order. She did take the time to inform us that we should order before a big party as our meal would take longer if we waited. We ordered buttermilk biscuits to share and I ordered the arrival of the sun (two eggs your way, bacon or sausage, potatoes, and country bread). The buttermilk biscuits were brought to us first and were 2 large fluffy biscuits served with butter and jam. The butter was good quality and jam was made in house, but was slightly runny, but overall a delicious combo. The arrival of the sun arrived shortly after and was a large portion. The potatoes were my personal favorite, seasoned and crispy! Wood ash rye is in a hotel in downtown St. George. The hotel itself has valet parking that is $22. However, if you arrive early enough you are able to find parking on the street, just make sure you look out for any parking signs. The inside of wood ash rye is small, but they offer an outside bar, several large tables in the center, and booths off to the side. In addition, they have a bar just outside the restaurant. They did have a sign posted that dogs are welcome on the patio which is a plus! -1 star for service for reservation time and empty tables

Our only complaint, and the reason I didn't give 5 stars was the service was SO SLOW. We waited about 20 minutes to get seated, totally understandable, but once we were seated it was about 15 minutes before we saw our waitress, then another 20 minutes before they brought our drinks(we ordered food the same time we ordered drinks). Once food came we saw her one time in the middle and then didn't see her again for another 30 minutes. There are places you go... and then there are places that feel like you've finally come home…read more The Painted Pony is the latter. We adore slipping away for lunch and settling onto the patio, where the world softens--shade drapes gently overhead, birds sing as if they've been hired just for the occasion, and time... well, time slows down enough to breathe. The service is nothing short of immaculate--attentive in that quiet, effortless way that makes you feel seen without ever being interrupted. And the food... oh, the food. The bacon-wrapped dates must have been crafted in heaven... or perhaps meant for the gods and somehow gifted to us. The tuna melt was so transcendent I found myself wondering if I had ever truly tasted tuna before... or if I had just been living a lesser version of the experience all along. And the beef bourguignon... my heavens. It was as if your grandmother--if she were also a five-star chef--had been waiting for you, simmering something rich and soulful to welcome you back after a long journey. Even the tea felt royal... and the mocktails were so delightful, so thoughtfully made, that not once did we miss the alcohol. The Painted Pony isn't just a meal... it's a return.

Tucked into the Tower Building, this New American restaurant nails the Southwestern-meets-fine-dining vibe: intimate indoor seating with contemporary regional art, fresh flowers, and soft lighting, plus a charming patio for when the weather cooperates. It feels romantic and relaxed without being stuffy--perfect for date night or a special occasion while visiting southern Utah.c91b9be2267e Service was attentive and friendly without hovering. Our server knew the menu well and made solid wine recommendations (they've got a nice list, and no-corkage Mondays are a nice touch if you BYO from a Utah store). Portions are generous for the price point--definitely not the tiny-plate nonsense you sometimes get at fine-dining spots. We started with the carrot jalapeño soup (bright, flavorful, and a nice kick) and the baked brie, which was rich and perfectly paired with the seasonal chutney and crostini. For mains, the bone-in pork chop and the hanger steak were highlights--well-cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor from the fresh ingredients and thoughtful sauces. The sides (mac & cheese and haricot verts) were solid too. We finished with the key lime pie, which was a bright, creamy winner. One note, though: pass on the crab cakes. They're a menu staple (around $16, served with something like pomegranate salsa or poblano aioli depending on the season), but ours were mostly filler with a noticeably fishy taste. Not worth the spot on the table when there are so many stronger starters and entrées.781e4d Overall, we'd happily return to The Painted Pony. It's one of the better fine-dining options in St. George--great atmosphere, strong service, and mostly excellent food at reasonable prices for what you get. Just skip the crab cakes and you'll have a winner of a meal. 4/5 stars. Recommended for visitors and locals alike. Reservations advised, especially on weekends.
