Whoa....this place is the truth! You know when you're eating true organic if you're a foodie that plays both sides of the fence. I ate enough to feed 2 people nicely for about 25 bucks. I'm a tall guy with a vicious appetite when the food is outstanding...and the food here doesn't disappoint. From the staff service to the decor of the the place, you will be satisfied. I suggest the Apple-Jalapeno chicken sandwich and the Indian lentil soup together. And the regular green salad with pesto vinaigrette is bangin. I went in Brandywine because the front door was open and sun shined on cafe tables. Seemed inviting to us. Boy the food was subpar. Family of four spent over 51 dollars for self bussing joint and felt greatly disappointed. For one thing fish tacos were terrible. The fish was overtly deep fried to the point I couldn't taste the fish. There were very few mango pieces in them. My daughter ordered the salmon cake, the overly fried salmon balls were too salty. On top of that the avocado pieces were brown and not acceptable to serve at any price. I pointed out to the cashier and her reply was unfortunately all the avocado now come in like that. I was shocked. I would not serve it if I were the chef. I couldn't eat it. My lentil soup was watery. I wonder if the regular chef was on day off since I read many good reviews on here. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere at the Brandywine. I ordered the eggplant, basil aioli baguette with balsamic reduction and a Caesar salad. One of my favorite places to eat. Cozy and Inviting, You order at the counter, seat yourself, and grab your own drinks. The service is always very friendly, quick and accommodating. They offer a wide variety of vegan and gluten-free options in a farm-to table kitchen. I often order from their happy hour menu which includes tacos, sandwiches, and small plates. My favorite thing to eat here are their soups, which are always changing however a vegan option is constant. Brandywine is OK at best. I have been here a few times and every time it is underwhelming. The space is very cute, but as many have mentioned confusing to navigate. You have to walk all the way to the back to order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food out to you. The prices are too high for the portions and service you get. Last time I ordered pork tacos, they sounded great from the description but when they came out they were tiny and not that great at all. They had hardly any toppings and were very soggy. In the past this has been one of my favorite places to go. The menu is limited but that I believe for quality control. The food has always been fresh, wholesome and excellently prepared. Unfortunately yesterday was a real let down. I brought family visiting from out of town for a early dinner and not one dish was satisfying. Their great Mac&Cheese was over cooked and gloppy, the fish tacos were hard and dry and Portabela mushrooms sandwich was more bread than anything else. Meh...it's OK. Tables always seem dirty and staff acts annoyed. On a recent visit, I decided to get a side of fries after already paying for my main order. Upon ordering the fries, I was told they only had a "big" plate of fries and it was $7.12. Fine, I figured I'd just share it with our guests. I'm kind of surprised at all the good reviews on here. I got the fish and chips, husband had the French dip, and three year old had a grilled cheese. My fish was so rubbery and overcooked, it was completely inedible and I had to return it and ask for something else. I got the Mediterranean sandwich instead. It was one slice of eggplant, two slices of tomato, and some sauce with a side of fries. Not nearly worth the $9.95 price tag. The French dip was not that great either. A small portion of meat on a sandwich that was mostly just bread. I had a ban mi here a couple years ago and I remember it being tasty, though also skimpy on filling to bread ratio. I wanted to like this place given its vegetarian offerings but need to be honest. When we entered, the restaurant felt relaxed and comfortable--my kind of place. We went to the counter and, given that this was our first visit, asked for suggestions. I was told the fish and chips were a must and my daughter ordered the macaroni and cheese with a side salad. The salad/dressing was great as were the fries (sliced whole/real potatoes). Unfortunately, I found the fish tender and moist but tasteless. The tartar sauce provided no help with little to no flavor. My daughter's mac & cheese was also very bland with hardly any taste of cheese. Given the salad and the fries, perhaps they have other good options that we didn't order but I would not recommend either the fish or the macaroni and cheese. read more

Food was nothing special. Had tacos which had great pork but super greasy dripping all over. Needed two and not one tortillas to hold it together. Portion was good. Fries were good but salty. Salad had wilty greens and freezer burnt tomatoes. Salmon cakes were over cooked but ok. Food was average but the place is not very clean. Floor is covered with crumbs as if nobody sweeps or vacuums. The table we had has a 2 inch tilt on the top like someone stood on it and broke it the table next to us had paper napkins holding it level as the legs were bent. The benches are comfortable enough but have left over crumbs and food all over them and the floor. Bathrooms were clean though. Platic water cups did not smell of bleach which is good. Over all will not eat here again. Unless they really spend some time cleaning. read more

This is one of the worst business models I've ever seen. It has the look of a nice restaurant (with high prices to match), the atmosphere of a bar (aka you'll yell the whole time), and the service of a Subway. Everything is ordered at the counter so there was a really long line the entire time we were there, which was on a weeknight. In five hours there were few lulls, and it was because the service was slow not because it was busy. I waited in line for 15 minutes just to find out their debit machine was down and they didn't bother to tell anyone. The biggest problem for me was that if you're going to place people on recycled church pews crammed up against a wall, offer table service. Do they honestly expect people to ask 5-7 other people to move every time they want to refill their water or order a beer? This is also not a place you want to go when you're in a hurry. We ordered a bottle of wine which we had to ask for three times. We also ordered two orders of fries, which arrived over an hour after the person that ordered them left! Probably one of the worst restaurants in Bellingham, and I won't be back. read more

I love that they have as many gluten free options as they do. There were things on the menu (including fish and chips) that I thought I would never be able to eat again. They also had plenty for that our daughter with a casein (dairy) allergy could eat. The food was good. Our entire family of 5 ate there and everyone liked their food. The coffee was good. Nobody seemed in a big hurry to help us or get our food out. There were very few other people there and we didn't have pressing plans so that was okay, but could have been annoying under different circumstances. We also had a possessed table and everything repeatedly fell over. It didn't seem that wobbly, but it was enough to mess with our heads. We should have moved since it was pretty empty, but the kids were settled. You do have to go up to order and bus your own table. I didn't mind that at all. Overall, it was good food, reasonably priced and they were able to meet our family's dietary restrictions. read more

If your server has to ask if the food they're handing you is TOO BURNT then DON'T SERVE IT TO THEM. I ordered the Texan sandwich and fries; the fries were very burnt and tasted as though they were cooked in old, unchanged oil. The sandwich, served on a baguette, was soggy. I ate two bites and threw my lunch away. While this place had a lovely atmosphere, it's not enough to make me want to try this place again. Bellingham has such a vibrant restaurant scene that I'll be choosing other places to have delicious lunch in the future. read more

I was reeaallly excited for this place, but I was reeaallly disappointed in my first visit. I came here with my husband and a friend. I couldn't decide what to get, and my friend was on her way to meet us, so my husband ordered and I decided to wait and just have a drink. My husband ordered the portobello sandwich, salmon chowder, and the green salad. Our friend showed up about 15 minutes later and she and I each ordered the chicken-apple-jalapeno sandwich with fries. She said that she'd had it a bunch of times at the farmer's market and that it was her favorite sandwich. I also ordered a champagne cocktail, which was champagne and raspberry mead, and it was good. My husband's food hadn't come out yet, and I noticed other people's food being delivered who had ordered after us. Then the chicken sandwiches showed up, and still nothing for my husband. The woman who delivered it didn't seem to notice that he didn't have any food. My friend said that the chicken sandwiches were much different then the ones she'd had at the farmer's market, and that they weren't as good. They didn't have cilantro on them, like it said on the menu, and they had mayo on them, which I don't think was on the menu, but I could be wrong. The chicken on the sandwich was very good, but I wasn't crazy about the rest of it. Finally we asked about my husband's food, and she said sorry and that it would be out soon, and they brought it a minute or so later, so I'm guessing that it had been back there the whole time. It had been probably a half hour by this time. The sandwich was cold, and he said it didn't taste very good. The salmon chowder was good. So, overall, pretty disappointing. I think it's customary for good places to acknowledge making people wait for food for a long time, and it seemed pretty obvious that the food was in the back the whole time, getting cold. They could have at least remade it, or given him a free cookie or something. I think the space is really nice, and they had a pretty good drink selection, and a lot of stuff on the menu looks really good. I'm sure I'll go back and give it another shot; I just really hope that they're ironing out kinks in a new place. I'm guessing the gluten-free items might be better, since it seems like they made an effort to include that kind of stuff on the menu, which is nice. The fries were great, probably the best in town. We really like the food and were taking my parents to showcase Bellingham as first time visitors. since we enjoyed our first experience so much, we decided brandywine would be the perfect place. While the food was still great, it took well over an hour to receive our order. And we only received food after we complained. The explanation was that they sometimes have glitches in their computers. And yet we had received our drink portion of the order, so their argument didn't make a lot of sense. While they apologized, they didn't offer any kind of compensation. In my experience, when you want your customer to return, you assure they are happy customers. We were not happy customers, and I certainly won't take anyone back here to experience Bham. I did still like the food, but not worth the hassle. read more

Good food, unique menu, lots of vegetarian options of you play for that team. Friendly service most of the time. Excellent soups. The ambiance is great and everybody I've been there with LOVEs the menu so it's a good place to do a business lunch or casual date or just meet some friends for food downtown. Be careful if you are in a hurry or if you have a very specific lunch hour: I only had a half hour lunch break and ordered a panini 'to-go' at 1 pm and it took 25 minutes to get the sammich. Walking into the restaurant, the space was lovely, I thought the paintings on the exposed brick brightened up the space, and the bar area had a lot of charm but the positives stop there.
