I'm a pretty picky when it comes to my breakfast. I need a good cup of coffee, a warm "homey" atmosphere, and Bread and Butter Cafe definitely comes through. From the second you step through the door, you're greater with a sweet "good morning, you can sit anywhere". As soon as you take a seat, no matter how busy (cause they were pretty busy), a waitress is already at your table asking if you'd like coffee. Let me tell you, I have had some damn horrid, burnt coffee from places like this, but Bread and Butter Cafe once again chooses to put me at ease. The perfect cup of joe. Not even 2 minutes later, I was ready to order and before I even looked up from the menu, the waitress was checking in on me. Amazing. She took my order with a smile, topped off my coffee and went on her way. As I'm sitting there, taking in the atmosphere, I realize that for a little hole in the wall in a little strip mall in a big city, this place has quite the small town feel. No one in this place is disgruntled, not even the kids that were there at 0800 on a Sunday morning! This place definitely has the "homey" feel I was talking about earlier. After not even 5 min of waiting and another coffee top off, my food was already out! Seriously folks, this place probably has most fast food places beat in wait time, simply astounding! Food was great, even got an extra egg for free! Overall, if I was stationed at DM, or lived in the general area, I would be here at least once a week. Service was amazing, hospitable and fast, food was good and came very quickly and the place has a great feel to it. Did I mention my cup of coffee never got below half a cup?! Bread & Butter is your quintessential breakfast joint a place where you can grow old in ... The price is right, the food is good, and the staff is friendly. This was my first time here and unfortunately I wasn't hungry (I just needed a place to meet a friend) so I ordered their coffee and cinnamon roll. The coffee was a little weak but that's kinda how I like it and the roll was good. It was good sized for the price so I was planning on saving half for my wife but I actually ended up finishing it. The sweetness wasn't quite on par with a Cinnabon (which is probably why I was able to finish it) but it can hold its own against any cinnamon roll. I hope to come back again and explore the rest of the menu. read more

Went to this place around 945 on a Sunday, and it was packed, so I expected the service to take a little while. The service was overall pretty good. My drink was never empty and they did not mess up anything on my order. The food to me was pretty average, nothing special. I got the basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. The one thing that got me though was my mother asked after we got our food if she could have a small sample of tuna to see if she would like to have the tuna salad sandwich on the next visit. She said she would pay the $1 or whatever to try it, and the waitress (who was very nice) said that the cooks would not do it. So needless to say we probably wont be back, since the wait time was high for average food. There are better places in Tucson (at least for breakfast food). read more

I love this place! My family eats frequently at Bread and Butter Café and it's always delicious. We've been going there for over 18 years, since they were in their old location nearby, and we've never been disappointed. We always TRY to save room for dessert because they have the BEST pies, but often we have to take a slice or two home with us because we don't have room. You've got to try their pies! read more

This place was just a typical breakfast diner. They advertised fresh pies but the peach cobbler I got was made from canned peaches. The food I got there was just ok. I think my party just didn't order the right things. Some stuff on the meny that we should have got but didn't was the cinnamon roll or the banana bread. Also the lunch items looked like they would be pretty delicious. My brother-in-law and I had one of best breakfast we had in a long time. I had the chicken fried steak with eggs over medium. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork and it melted in your mouth. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Home fries were good as was the gravy. Overall the meal was delicious. My brother-in-law had the chicken fried chicken and said his was excellent. Our server was great. Always had a smile and was attentive to our needs. She definitely made our experience more enjoyable. Standard breakfast fare at reasonable prices. The portions are great for the price and the service was excellent! Don't let the 'rough' looking exterior scare you away. I had the chicken fried chicken and eggs- the chicken was crispy and juicy with sausage gravy on top. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (unlike the undercooked hash whites you get at some places). They have a variety of homemade pies too! Checked on Yelp for a good place for breakfast this morning. This place had great reviews so off we went. On entering we were greeted friendly and found our seats. They have a nice breakfast selection as well as daily specials. I chose the chorizo and eggs and paired it with hashbrowns, Deb got bacon and eggs paired with grits. She likes her grits with cheese which was no issue for them at all. The chorizo was done perfectly and had a great flavor as did the hashbrowns. I had corn tortillas with it. Debs grits were done to her satisfaction and with the cheese had a good flavor. The price was good even with the extra charged for Deb's cheese. About my only issue, I can't call it a complaint as it wasn't that big of a deal, is that I only got 2 tortillas. With the amount of chorizo it really needed 3. Yeah I know a very minor issue but other than that this is a great breakfast place. I hope it's still here in a few years when we move here. read more

I have been going to this place since I was a child. Very friendly people who know and remember their customers. If you want affordable breakfast/lunch that tastes great this is the place you have to go if you are in or anywhere near Tucson. Their omletes and biscuits and gravy are to die for, I have never found a better omlette at ant other restraunt I have ever been to and nothing close to being that reasonable in pricing either. The desert is even better. People will glorify the pies there as they should the pies are fantastic. The thing about BreadnButter is if you see someone loving the pie, that just means that don't get up early enough to get their freshly baked every day, home made cinnamon rolls. Their cinnamon rolls is their staple. They are HUGE, and I mean big enough for 2-3 people huge and they go fast. So you need to get there relatively early to get one. You won't find better breakfast anyplace else, this is the place to go. read more

I am very unhappy with the way I and my family was treated this morning when we decided to go out for breakfast this Sunday morning. The "gentleman " greeter refused to even try to seat us as a group and was completely unwavering when it was explained to him that it would be following the Covid rules to put 2 tables together. Owned by Garrett's. I was informed that Garrett's opens at 4:00 because he doesn't wish to compete - his parents own this one. In their review of themselves, they say that everyone will absolutely love the food. All advertisements state pies are homemade. They make the crust with Crisco. First time I've EVER seen a rhubarb pie with brilliant fake red food coloring. Rhubarb naturally turns a brownish-dull color when cooked. Folks who cook & eat rhubarb know what it looks like. Why turn it into a fake cosmic color? Is it to make us believe there are strawberries? The pie was dry & repulsive - a bare minimal amount of fruit - seemingly beyond 2 days old. 2nd visit: I ordered supposedly 'fresh peach'. I was served apple crumb a la mode. Not good - almost zero flavor, only sweet - even the cinnamon was missing - No apple fragrance, flavor or essence. No peach essence. I stated to the waitress this was NOT the peach. Coming back to Tucson after many years I'm having a grand time seeking out local eateries serving up fresh, homestyle flavorful meals with examplary customer service. Bread and Butter Cafe gets my vote for Best Little Cafe -ever! I've dined twice- breakfast both times. Chose the grits on the side-with my omelet. Yum- served piping hot with great dollop of butter. Raisain toast is moist and flavorful...Garrett (son of the owner) was my server and he took great interest in how my experience was unfolding. A delightful young man who stands proud in the footsteps of this family establishment. You feel like you are back in the 70's...abit retro but very old fashoined- the counter is front and center with the lively personalities of the lunch ladies and you see the tops of the heads of the cooks having a great time cooking up these delicious meals from scratch. Everytime someone walked in or out they were greeted or saluted...they knew most everyone by name...and what their 'ususal' was. Reminded me of the spirit of Cheers! But then you enter and realize that there are BACON PANCAKES on the menu. You then proceed to order said BACON PANCAKES with a side of BACON and, suddenly, you realize that you finally "get" Ron Swanson. No?? Wonderful mom and pop Southern-style restaurant. When you walk into Bread and Butter their staff greets you with a very loud, "Hello! Sit anywhere you'd like." The atmosphere is very friendly and they cater to mostly regulars, a geriatric population. The staff remembers everyone and is so friendly it seemed like they had interpersonal relationships with all of their guests. Not only is the service great but the food is impeccable. The style is Southern and it is extremely affordable. They are known for their Southern-style biscuits and have a daily selection of about 10 different pies. (I don't like pie but I took a chance on the chocolate cream and was not disappointed.) I'm always a fan of restaurants that serve RC cola, which they do. My friends all got breakfast entrees and they looked wonderful. I only wish I had been gluttonous enough to attempt the dinner menu after my pie. read more

With the amount of staff available you would think things would get done in a timely manner. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and wheat toast. I got the privaledge to sit and stare at the 12 staff members while waiting for my meal. They weren't doing much which explains why it took 15+ minutes to get my meal. The omelet reminded me of something they would serve in jail...thin and lacking in the ham and cheese department. If your starving, this will get you through...if you want to enjoy what you're eating go someplace else. On the plus side the waitress never let my iced tea go south of half...It wasn't enough to make the food good though. read more
