Love the name of this cafe! This is an old-style, local, mom & pop feel diner serving decent breakfast offerings. There was a line when we arrived and the place was full. The wait, surprisingly, was very quick for the number of parties ahead of us. The staff was friendly and we got our food pretty quick. We went for the biscuits and gravy; unfortunately the biscuits were rather dry/stale/old texture tasting :( The gravy was good though. My family has been going to this place when it first opened on an empty lot. We would go every weekend with the family and with my dad early in the morning before school. The quality of food has never changed, amazing food. If you ever need good pies go there but order early because they sell fast. My favorite is the chicken fried steak with home fries and gravy. This place is fast and good. Restaurant was clean, service was good. We had banana and pecan pancakes with the ingredients mixed into the , instead of just a topping. The was cooked just right too. We went for breakfast on a Sunday, we were seated right away. The place was really busy. Jessica our waitress was covering many tables. She was happy and smiling. The service was excellent as she went back and forth like she was on roller skates. The wife suggested this place and I happily obliged as I LOVE breakfast. It was a cold, wintry day on our first visit and our daughter had just completed the first half of her weekend soccer tournament. Unbeknownst to me, my wife had already been given wind of this place and had been set on going there for breakfast for a few days, Perhaps I should listen to her a bit more often. More often than not, I stick with the basics (Eggs, Bacon, Toast, Sausage, Hash Browns), but when I am feeling a little frisky, I will try biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs or chicken fried steak, Considering this was y first trip to Break and Butter, I wagered that I'd be better off playing it safe, so I went with bacon and eggs, hash browns, wheat toast. The bacon was cooked to perfection. If a diner screws up on bacon, it can put a serious damper on your entire experience, but if it proves to be bacon connoisseur by satisfying my taste buds and appetite, the breakfast can be borderline heavenly. My only complaint were the hash browns, which I preferred to be just a little more crispy, but they were still good and I scarfed them down nonetheless. Quick, prompt service. So this is your typical breakfast joint. They do short order right and the waitresses are on their game. Took my finicky grandparents here for breakfast before they were heading out of town. I know my grandparents and they can be rough to get orders for and please. Our waitress was AMAZING. She completely accomadated them. It should be noted that it was a Saturday morning, they were packed, but no one was missing a beat turning the tables and getting the food out. Is there anything exceptional? The recipes are top-secret and only the ownership prepares these works of art. If you're not feeling like prickly pear meringue or banana cream their cinnamon rolls are REDONKULOUS, seriously. Ever since I was a kid, my parents brought me to our go-to breakfast restaurant. They were always local, small business, no nonsense places that made some killer pancakes, gorgeous waffles, and could always be counted on for a really good omelet. Since moving to this side of town, im so happy to say that this place is within walking distance to my house and I try to get over here as often as I possibly can. This is a workin man's breakfast place. Simple food done really well and for really fair prices. This is a real greasy spoon kinda place. Great atmosphere - it always seems like a bit of a party being here. Everybody knows everyone else, friendly expedient servers, and regulars on all sides of you. When i get a better cashflow, I aspire to be a regular at this place. If i had millions and millions, id still come to this place to keep my feet in the roots. I grew up in Tucson, and very rarely do I need a suggestion as to where to eat when I am back in town to visit. I did not get to this side of town very often, so after a very early flight into town I used the Yelp app to find some good grub that was nearby. Thank you Yelpers, I never would have found this spot if not for the great reviews! Bread & Butter Cafe is in a rather low-key strip mall that also houses an auto part store and a liquor store. Do not let the less-than-appealing surroundings fool you, when it comes to breakfast this spot is legit. I knew I was in the right place when I walked into a packed room at 7:30 am on a Friday. I was seated at the only open table, and an absolute gem of a waitress quickly offered up some coffee. From that point on my coffee cup was never more than 1/2 empty and despite how busy the cafe was, I was impressed by how quickly the waitress came back to answer questions and take my order. This is a breakfast spot primarily, and while you aren't going to find anything extremely unique on the menu, there is a decent selection of Mexican dishes that all sounded excellent. I decided to go with the chorizo burrito, and was offered rice or beans as my side but the waitress allowed me to substitute hash browns without a moment's hesitation. The burrito came out quickly, and I immediately wondered if I'd be able to finish it all. It was huge, just as large as the breakfast burritos you'd get one of those 'mexican fast food' places (it tasted so much better though!!). The salsa that came with it reminded me of the salsa my mom used to make. It was a simple, but flavorful breakfast. I paid under $10, with a tip for my meal. I went one saturday morning with no great expectations but was surprised to find the place packed, which very often signals that you have arrived a the right spot. This place is my vote for best local breakfast spot. They have AWESOME GRAVY. The chicken fried steak is up there but that gravy makes it. Clearly it is made from scratch Went there 1:45 ordered some they had just pitched the gravy so they made me some fresh it took about 20 min as well it is the real deal not out a package. Also since I had to wait they took it off the bill. You will have to wait to get a table on most days. There are 2 reasons one must always have to wait for a table at a restaurant 1 the place is super trendy and it is the place to be or 2 IT IS JUST THAT GOOD. Being that this place is in an "economically deprived" part of town and its neighbor is a booze store makes me think it falls into the later category. First off, the service here is unbelievable....5 stars all around with coffee and water refills, prompt ordering and the food arriving in minutes. The food was a good run of the mill breakfast place with omelettes, huevos rancheros and pancakes enjoyed by our party. But let me tell you about the home fries....deliciously crisp (not soggy) and so well done. I would get a whole plate next time and skip everything else on the menu. This place my friends swear by so i had to come out and try it. First thing i notice is all the options i have to choose from, it took me awhile but i figured out what i wanted. I ended up getting the Mexican Grill, the breakfast version. It was really good my only heartache for this plate was the price to portion ratio, it was 9.50 (including my OJ), yet at the end i was still very much hungry. So i come back here every time i am back in town. I have found things that fill me up so it isn't a bad choice at all. Just explore what they got. if you want a bomb cinnamon roll show up early or else they all sell out for that exact reason. Also the chili is homemade and a special recipe. This place came recommended by some friends after I told them I'm a local breakfast dive junkie and thanks to them, I think I found my new favorite breakfast place in Tucson! I've been here twice now and we are always seated immediately and our drink orders taken right away. The wait staff are always so friendly and accommodating and fast! I think from entrance to exit we were in the restaurant a total of 30 minutes and got excellent everything from service to food. The eggs are always cooked perfectly and hash browns done to the way you like em (I'm a crispy browns fan!). They have sugar in containers and not packets, which I love since I admittedly use a lot of sugar in my coffee and hate ripping open several sugar packets. They also ask if you want your coffee refilled instead of just doing it which is a huge thing for me since sometimes I don't want a refill or to add more cream and sugar to my coffee. Both times we were there, I could see the cooks in the back smiling, joking, and laughing and you could tell they, along with the wait staff, genuinely enjoyed their jobs which added a lot of charm to the place. We've also ordered the prickly pear meringue pie (which you must try), and brought their dutch apple pies to holiday gatherings and had no leftovers. So all around, this place is awesome! This place has the best service I have ever experienced. Ever. Ellie was friendly, speedy, funny, and had a memory for the ages. After one visit, she remembered our coffee and breakfast orders. We ate there again the next day (today) and got a few things to go so we could enjoy their stellar breakfast again while they close for Easter. The food is perfect. They're not reinventing the wheel here, but that's not why their regulars keep coming back. They return for the stellar service, the speedy eggs, the buttery toast and cinnamon rolls. Everything is just what you'd dream a diner breakfast would be, and even during the busiest of breakfast rushes, the staff is doing it with a smile. I'm inspired. It's location in a strip mall (with a liquor store to the east, a 99-cent store to the west, and a pawn shop to the south) doesn't exactly scream "Come on in for a great breakfast!" I'm a pretty picky when it comes to my breakfast. I need a good cup of coffee, a warm "homey" atmosphere, and Bread and Butter Cafe definitely comes through. From the second you step through the door, you're greater with a sweet "good morning, you can sit anywhere". As soon as you take a seat, no matter how busy (cause they were pretty busy), a waitress is already at your table asking if you'd like coffee. Let me tell you, I have had some damn horrid, burnt coffee from places like this, but Bread and Butter Cafe once again chooses to put me at ease. The perfect cup of joe. Not even 2 minutes later, I was ready to order and before I even looked up from the menu, the waitress was checking in on me. Amazing. She took my order with a smile, topped off my coffee and went on her way. As I'm sitting there, taking in the atmosphere, I realize that for a little hole in the wall in a little strip mall in a big city, this place has quite the small town feel. No one in this place is disgruntled, not even the kids that were there at 0800 on a Sunday morning! This place definitely has the "homey" feel I was talking about earlier. After not even 5 min of waiting and another coffee top off, my food was already out! Seriously folks, this place probably has most fast food places beat in wait time, simply astounding! Went here during our stay in Tucson and was not disappointed one bit! The food here is great at this cafe. First of all you are greeted by a friendly and peppy staff that is always johnny on the spot. Your food also comes out pretty quickly and the coffee is always hot! I had the breakfast burrito here and the Mexican grill with 2 eggs and both were phenomenal! The breakfast burrito you basically can get chorizo and it is pre made into a burrito already, but the mexican grill is just given where you can just make your own burrito and no home fries.
