I usually have all good thing's to say about the bread basket. Well today wasn't the best experience. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on pumpernickel. And my cousin ordered the turkey pastrami to go. I got back to my desired location to sit down and eat and it turns out they gave my cousin the wrong sandwich. I open my sandwich up and it looked great but had way to much Mayo. I know that chicken salad is made with mayo but it was ridiculous how much they had and it took the flavor away from the chicken and amazing bread. And for some reason there was bacon on my sandwich and usually when I order this sandwich there never is bacon. Not gonna lie it was a nice touch I mean you can't get mad at bacon lol. Usually the Bread Basket does it really well but this last experience made me really mad. Also I will add the I paid 11.00 dollars for this sandwich which seemed to be way to much money. I don't know who they think they are but 11.00 is way to much for a sandwich. read more

Had lunch there today....mmmm So for those that do not know, its a counter diner, no tables, no frills, just sit down and order. They have carry-out as well. I have been here before for lunch and like always, this place was very busy. The service was fast and friendly (in their own special way), and the place was clean. The air wasn't working in this place and it was like 95 degrees outside according to my thermometer on my car, even so this place was still great. I ordered the mini United Meat sandwich (a 2 oz less version of the regular United sandwich), it was fresh, warm and tasty. The flavor was outstanding and shows why they have earned the ranking as the best corn beef in Detroit. I recommend giving this place a crack, if you want a great sandwich that will certainly fill you up (if you like) but you more likely will be taking a to-go package home with you. Been wanting to try this place for some time now and finally hit it today. You need to know some of the inside lingo before you go in to really get it the way you want it. Wet - comes with Russian dressing. Extra Wet - mucho Russian dressing. New vs Old Pickles - new are more like a crunchy cucumber and you can specify what you'd like. Lean - they'll trim more of the fat from the corned beef (wish I knew that one going in). Anyway, I ordered the #17 1/2, which was corned beef on rye with swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing. It was very good, but could have had a bit more of the fat trimmed off. It was $8.95 for the sandwich, but I thought that was a fair price for this monster. I'll be back and definitely look forward to trying more items from the menu. The woman behind the counter was helpful explaining some of the lingo, so don't be afraid to ask. read more

I was a vegetarian for over a decade. It's only within the past few years that I've started eating any sort of beef again. So when I have a craving for corned beef, it's a very specific craving. Who am I to deny it at this point? After a dozen meat-free years, a big ol pile o' beef sometimes hits the spot! The corned beef was indeed pretty darn good. And on a Reuben, there's an astonishing amount of it! It was like a meat explosion -- corned beef that refused to be tamed or limited by the confines of bread! All in all, it was a solid sandwich, but not one than made me think "oh my lord!" like the corned beef at Mudgie's. The slaw seemed really plain. I saved the half I couldn't fit in my belly, though, so I obviously liked it well enough! The staff was friendly - joking with the regulars and calling me sweetie (in a non-creepy way) and the other sandwiches sounded good. So, if I found myself in the area again and pretty hungry, I'd try something else, for sure. I'm just not sure I'd make a beeline here first with so many other deli and sandwich options. read more

The Bread Basket is awesome. A little pricey, but the sandwiches are FAT! And when I say FAT, I'm talking about Fat Albert FAT. The amount of meat you get on any given sandwich is ridiculous. Obviously, it's already been said. But the corned beef is the first thing you have to try when visiting The Bread Basket. There is absolutely no fat what so ever. That seems to be the problem around the metro Detroit area. Finding pastrami and corned beef that doesn't contain a lot of fat, and is well cut, seems to be hard to find. This deli delivers! As in very good food. Went here because the guys at work wanted to try something new for us for lunch. I love the old charm of stools and canned pop. We sat inside and I had the roast beef sandwich with cheese and some fries and a can of pop. The sandwich was very good! Grilled sourdough bread piled high with thinly sliced roast beef. Very hot fries! They wrap all their sandwiches in wax paper then slice them in half so you can see the insides like the old school. Fast friendly service! No free refillls on the cans of pop... I am a sucker for delis. And the Bread Basket is up there among the best there is. I only have one regret about coming here: I always end up eating the whole sandwich in one sitting, and then wish I had saved the second half for the next day. These sandwiches are big, and they pile the meat on (even the smallest portion... you can order a bigger, and even bigger version than that!)! I always order something that includes swiss cheese, coleslaw, and russian dressing. The pastrami (the 18 1/2), the corned beef (the 17 1/2), are both perfect. The corned beef however, is the cream of the crop. I suppose you could order turkey... but why would you when there is fresh corned beef available!?! My fiancé once ordered a regular United Meat- which combines corned beef and pastrami, and it was a meatsplosion, to say the least. And keep in mind, you can order XTRA MEAT! I went here one day for lunch because my partner on the ambulance was in love with this place. He got the corned beef sandwich and I am pretty sure we had to off load equipment to make room for the dang thing! He was thrilled and quiet for a good 20 minutes while he devoured his lunch. The place offers chips, not fries which was just fine, I don't think I could have eaten them anyways. Cans of pop not fountain so no refills but I could get Faygo rootbeer here which was pretty sweet. Waitstaff was a little chatty since your options are sitting directly at the counter or on a stool facing the window. This was the first time I visited this deli. I was terribly disappointed the place was dirty and one of the prep cooks refused to put his mask on properly tall big guy. I took a photo because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Also I debated leaving but I had drove such a long way to get there so I just placed the order. Also the evening cook had either just came back from lunch or starting his shift. He smelt like marijuana when he passed me and another customer that was in the lobby, both me and the man looked at each other he shook his head. I watched the young guy who didn't have on a face mask and didn't wash his hands and they also didn't have any hand sanitizer. WARNING BE CAREFUL! ORDER WITH CAUTION! I know we as Americans aren't going to stop eating out. But people who don't take basic precautions don't care about our safety. This was my first time coming to this place. I walked in and the place was not very clean. I ordered 3 corn beef sandwiches and they didn't tell there was different sizes so they automatically charged me for the most expensive one. The meat was fatty and greasy. I asked for coleslaw on my sandwich and they put less than a teaspoon on it. I am very disappointed with my experience here after seeing all the good reviews. We stopped into this Bread Basket Deli on our way to an event because we've been to other Bread Baskets and they were amazing--actually the best deli's we've ever been to. We planned our dinner that night at the Bread Basket in Livonia because it was on our way to our event. We'll never go back. When we got up to the door, we almost turned away because the windows on the place were so grimy you couldn't see through them and the general atmosphere was gloomy and depressing. The seating area was roped off, but there was one very tall table in the corner where the woman behind the counter said we could sit and eat. It was raining hard and we were hungry, and it was too late to go anywhere else, so we stayed and ordered. We paid $50 for two of us to eat. We don't mind paying good money for a meal, but the food was bad. The table in the corner with the tiny surface area where we ate faced dirty windows that we couldn't see out of. There were two beat-up bar stools with the vinyl upholstery torn off one of them and the inner foam coming out of it for us to sit on. People were coming in and out and ordering, but the music blaring from behind the counter was so loud that everyone had to shout so loud to be heard that it was annoying. The guy who I presume was the cook kept coming out from behind the counter and going in and out of the front door, which was right next to where we were sitting. My order was wrong. I ordered tuna salad on bread not toasted, and the bread was toasted and greasy. I asked for no lettuce or tomato, and the sandwich had some slimy lettuce on it that I peeled off and didn't eat. I asked for double Swiss on the sandwich, but I couldn't detect any Swiss cheese because it had all melted into the greasy bread. I ordered fries and they were hard and cold, as if they were old and had been re-warmed and then left to sit and petrify. My fiance ordered a corned beef sandwich on an onion roll. I will say that it was loaded with corned beef, but the only positive thing he had to say about it was that the flavor was there. That was about it. We had to get to our event, so we ate and left. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. We left very disappointed and will never return there. I had stomach issues for about a week after eating there, and every time we drive past that building it rekindles memories of that terrible meal. This place has a good old fashioned feel to it with a lunch counter. It reminds me of some of the places which older relatives would take me to pick up food when I was a child. There isn't a lot of seating; so, it is best to take your food and go to a favorite spot--or in my case my car since I couldn't resist the smells. I ordered the Jason's Jammer. It was a really good 4 decker sandwich with corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and Russian dressing. The meat wasn't like most corporate chain restaurants whose meat is usually bland. No, all of the meat in this sandwich was full of flavor and juicy. And unlike the corporate chain restaurants, the tomato was cold--despite the heat of the meat-- sweet and sour. In fact, every component of the sandwich tasted like it was fresh and flavorful. And the sandwich was so filling. This is definitely a place to return to if you enjoy a good filling single sandwich meal. And I will most likely be back. read more

I went to the Bread Basket in Livonia tonight for some corned beef. The wait was reasonable, considering it's St. Patrick's Day. I got the 17 1/2 (small corned beef, swiss, and slaw on rye). They put a ton of meat on these sandwiches. I'm not sure I'll be able to eat half of this, so I can't imagine eating a whole regular sized sandwich. The corned beef is salty, but in a good way. The slaw is just okay...doesn't distract from the beef and that's a good thing. I wouldn't eat the slaw on its own, though. The new pickles are not very dilly. More like slightly seasoned cucumbers, but some people like that. The old pickles, though, will send an electric shock to your taste buds. I'll definitely visit again soon to try some other stuff from the menu. read more

I purchased two 9oz. Lean corn beef sandwiches for $33 at this location. One sandwich went to Redford and the other sandwich went to Romulus. I called after my friends tried to enjoy the sandwiches for dinner and found the sandwiches to have hard Gristle in both halves of both sandwiches. I tried to talk to the manager about what happened and She told me I had to go and pickup the sandwiches remains from Redford and Romulus, even if they were in the garbage and bring them all the way back to the Plymouth and Middlebelt location. I ordered the BB salad and in the special instructions I said I didn't want Swiss cheese, extra American cheese, and I wanted it tossed and chopped with ranch. a day ago I called and place an order on November 6th I ordered two numbers 17 one with no cheese line extra meat Lily and took my order. I drove all the way from Novi to the Livonia location my husband went in pick up I order we drove back home we got home he opened up his sandwich with stated on the wrapping no cheese on the receipt it said no cheese while he had cheese on his sandwich and he is allergic to cheese had he ate that sandwich it would have went all wrong. I use to go to the bread basket in Oak Park all the time years ago and was very happy to see one in Livonia. Boy, I cannot believe how the quality has gone down. Some snowflakes commented on things that show they have never worked in a restaurant or are used to ordering from a clowns face via a Drive Thru! I ordered an original Corner Beef combo.... had to toss most of the fries as I was to STUFFED after inhaling some of the best corned beef I have ever had! Heck, they even had Horse Radish to go with it which most places don't. Pickles were OK but I like bolder flavored Dills. My wife ordered the regular turkey club and she could only eat half as it was HUGE and delicious! The bacon adds to the experience and was plentifully! We sat at the counter and chatted with the staff... SORRY that does not "bother" me like others commented AND got me a few "extras" when they offered! I WILL BE BACK HERE! I was told this place was the greatest, far from it! There is no organized route to get in line to order carry out. I just looked old and lost, got noticed and helped out. The Costco we just left from was cleaner and more inviting. The bread was dry, the corned beef was chipped up from the automatic slicer which was piling up meat so you never really got a fresh slice. Heaven help the customer who got serve the bottom of the pile of protein stuff. The amount of meat on the bread didn't even cover the surface of the slice. Meat had no taste, toppings non existent. Overall all the place is pretty pricey. If you're going expect about $11 a person. The place has a dinner vibe and very little seating, the stools that are at the bar are falling apart and unstable. I understand most people take out so the interior seating isn't a priority. The place was pretty clean on the inside which is a plus. The food, though pricey, is very filling and the sandwiches are good. If you are coming here for the sandwiches you will be pleased with the food but if you don't like sandwiches don't bother stopping in, everything is priced highly for about the same quality as a Coney island. read more

We went into the Bread Basket on Middlebelt in Livonia which used to be wonderful, But I moved up north and we were going there for a treat while I was downstate and OMG IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! The Waitress was RUDE who took our order, Made me come to the register when we were there to eat in at the counter, Then she left?? Or went outside?? Just plain disappeared and never gave us our drinks or nothing after I spend $50 on "3" Meals!! (I mean Come on??!!) Then the place was Horrifically Dirty, Fries and Food all over the Floors and the counters were sticky!! Then after a LONG and I mean LOOONNG Over 30 minute wait for only "3" Sandwiches and Fries and NO Other customers were there waiting so it was just US, He comes the COOK with our Order BAGGED UP as a TO GO Order with NO PICKLES NO POPS, All Bagged when it was an EAT IN ORDER!!! I mean What the Heck?? Then he ACTED RUDE when I said we wanted to eat it there!!! SOOO We just took our Food that was Already Bagged and Left. I was sooooooo Disappointed!! My office orders from here a lot and I really like their food. Their pickles are pretty awesome as are their salads. Everyone else gets sandwiches the size of my head and raves about them. I can't eat the bread (allergy) so I can't partake. I wish they had gluten free bread. read more

They do it right at BB deli and I'm hooked. I've gotten carry-out from this location several times for work, but today I dined in. Boy, did I regret that... First of all, the place is small (which I knew from carry-out visits), but there's lots of stools available for eating at the bar. The whole "order here" and "pickup here" spots were NOT marked, so I was slightly confused when I arrived and wanted to dine in. I saw others sitting at the bar waiting for food or waiting to order, so I sat next to them. I waited about 10 minutes before the surly woman behind the counter directed incoming guests to wait in line at the register to place their order. So myself and an older gentleman shuffled over to the line, BEHIND the people who just walked in, and waited more. After I spent a total of 20 minutes waiting to give someone my order (I checked my phone), it was my turn at the register...then the surly woman leaves me at the register to wait on a couple sitting at the bar who had JUST ARRIVED. I'm completely beside myself at this point as I wait another 5 minutes to place my order. While waiting, though, I spied the fact that the gentleman who was quickly waited on at the bar was blatantly flashing an official police badge key-chain of sorts. So, obviously, he got some sort of preferrential treatment because of this. Not cool. At last I place my order with the surly woman and wait another 7 minutes or so for my food. When it arrives it's just as heavenly as I remembered, and I shamelessly cram it in my face. I should mention, though, that all the while I'm eating, I'm doing so next to a dirty tray full of the scraps of the person who ate there before me. I was only given one napkin with my sandwich and desperately needed more. The surly woman never checked on me and there aren't dispensers in sight so I, *gasp*, took a clean napkin off the scrappy leftover tray in front of me. It was unused and, so far, I'm not suffering from any cross-contamination-related illness. Just as I was finishing my sandwich the surly woman walked by and DID ask me if everything was okay, but it was too little too late and it didn't negate the prior walk-bys without checking in on me or the little murmers of her bitching under her breath. Long story short, if the people you work around can stomach you eating a sandwich that involves russian dressing and cole slaw streaming down your face, just get carry-out. Several times I have gone there and the shorter heavy set lady (who seems to live there) is never in a good mood. Don't get me wrong, the food is FANTASTIC, which is why I always come back, but PR needs definite improvement. One time, my order got mixed up with someone elses, I was taking a sandwich to go when they realized they gave it to someone who was dining in. After I witnessed the customer open the sandwich, play around with it until he realized it wasn't the sandwich he ordered, and give it back to the lady. She simply rewrapped it and handed it to me. With a surprised look, I handed it back to her and said "um, that guy was touching it and playing with it, can I please have another sandwich?" she rolled her eyes and turned to order a new sandwich. I got a new sandwich although I was not too pleased with the way she handled it. I now go to the Ypsilanti location much more because it is close to my work and they have not failed me yet.
