Came here on a whim after church and it was great for a quick brekky and coffee. Apparently they're plant based so no eggs in the bread which I was surprised at it because it tasted great! They heated up the savory pastry, which I appreciate. The coffee was good too and not burnt or sour. I loved that they had bread samples too, I would def buy a loaf of olive bread. The first king cake I've had this year was the praline pecan and I positively swooned with one bite. Ok, but then I bought the pistachio tahini chocolate and even after eating it two days in a row, I am thinking about my next bite. It's that good. This place stood out for their Vegan menu and food. Great selection of baked goods and bread. Their menu selections were good. Food tasted good overall. Not sure would get the grits again. They tased mostly of vegan butter/cheese with a slight aftertaste. The muffanada was great. This had flavor and loved the roll this was on. Coffee was pretty standard overall. The staff seemed friendly and you go up to the counter to order then sit down. Overall vibe is pretty chill. Would try more items here next time. Try them for yourself. read more

Established in 2012, Breads on Oak is a plant-based bakery & café. They specialize in organic, artisanal breads and vegan pastries but also offer plant-based breakfast & lunch items, in addition to organic fair-trade coffee & espresso. Having heard about this place for years, I decided to take an early morning walk to check it out. The café is charming and cozy with ample seating. The display case was lined with a variety of tempting offerings. Since I'm always on the hunt for a good biscuit, I decided to give the Peach Bourbon Biscuit a try. It had a nice flavor. The consistency was cakey. More like a scone than a flaky biscuit. I prefer biscuits made with real butter but, as an alternative, this was pretty good. I warmed up the other half and liked it better toasted with butter and jam. I would come back and try some of their breads and other pastries. Fabulous vegan bavarian crème king cake! Cute spot in a nice neighborhood. Friendly staff.

YUM. This place is legendary for vegan food, whether your preference is perfect sourdough bread, decadent desserts, or healthier whole foods/plant-based/unprocessed options. When you walk in, you're greeted with the smell of delicious bread "made from scratch with wild sourdough and organic flours baked in our stone hearth oven." Yes please. I suspect this location supplies the bread for their second location on Carondelet also, since that one didn't have the glorious bread smell. Breads on Oak bread seems to be a bread destination for meat-eaters and vegans alike. I had the opportunity to try the multigrain loaf during my visit and loved it. The sweets - I enjoyed free samples of the chocolate chip cookie (fantastic), the tea biscuit (chewy/hearty), and something gooey and delicious and peanut buttery (not sure if it was a cookie or the blondie.) The healthier/savory options - I really enjoyed the Market Gardener Salad, made with "fresh greens, house made smoked tempeh, sunflower seeds, carrots, fresh cucumbers, and avocado." The miso dressing was great. The real star of the show was the tempeh. Just standard big brand tempeh I think but smoked and marinated in something teriyaki esque that was packed with umami and sweetness and left me wanting more. Lastly, I was delighted with the wide selection of local kombucha, with multiple flavors from Big Easy Kombucha (fairly widely available across the city; delicious fruity taste) and La Rive kombucha (another Louisiana brand that I did not encounter at any other stores or restaurants, with unique flavors and a light, less sweet flavor profile, and nice delicate effervescence). In summary, Breads on Oak is a must-visit. The uptown location in particular is worth the trip. You're welcome in advance! read more

One of my favorite spots for breakfast in New Orleans. Everything is vegan and made daily, so everything tastes super fresh. They also give out free slices of bread with jam. The place is always busy, and is first come first serve so make sure to come early or they could run out of your favorite item for the day. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is tucked away in the cutest neighborhood in uptown. Always such a joy visiting. My favorite bakery in the city! The employees are so friendly, the ambiance is homey, it has couches, low lighting and is comfortable for hanging out or studying. I love everything i've gotten from here! The biscuits are amazing! I'm a big fan of the sausage biscuit with cheddar, I like the egg-o vegan, but the tofu scramble is a little messy for me, still tastes amazing though. The pastries are also amazing! My favorite sweet is by far the chocolate croissants. I love the pink donuts with almond filling. I wasn't a huge fan of the matcha strawberry filled donut but i found it wasn't sweet enough for my liking, so if you prefer less sweet it may be for u! I've been loving the fries lately, the aioli they come with is amazing, it sort of tastes like a thick more flavorful ranch. The cheddar grits are great! I love the grilled cheese and tomato soup. They also sneak in a little spinach to the grilled cheese so i don't feel as unhealthy lol! For the vegan chef challenge month, they had a meatball sub which was to die for. Also love the french onion soup! So nice for a vegan bakery to carry such a wide variety of fresh and homemade items. I hadn't so many of these food items in years since going vegan and it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the food i used to love while honoring my morals. Best sandwich i've had this entire year. It's only January 4 -- kidding aside, yes it's the best sandwich I've had in a long time and i'm not even vegan. I got the Live Food Sandwich with extra "bacon". The bread quality was excellent and the flavors packed a punch while still feeling healthy and filling. Side pickle was yummy. First try at vegan food. Went all in and ordered the Big Daddy. Took my first bite and had to pause to let my mind adjust to not look for a greasy cheeseburger. When I took my second bite I started to enjoy the array of flavors was pleasantly surprised. The veggie burger had its own wonderful taste complimented perfectly by the creamy taste of avocado and the crunchy and freshness of the pickles and vegetables. The bun held up well with plenty of flavor on its own. I could've enjoyed the bun on its own. Limited wait time for my order and staff was attentive and welcoming. The interior is small, so it can feel a bit cramped, and the stairs at the entrance are easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Let me start off that I really appreciate this 100 vegan coffee/food/bakery spot. I visit every time I come to New Orleans. I have visited both locations, the original is just so darn cute, and I have the outdoor patio area. The downtown one is very convenient. I am giving 5 solid starts for the customer service in both locations. People working here are super sweet, friendly, helpful and just you get the feeling that they honestly enjoy their job. The cafe just has good vibes, that is all. The food, I ordered the French Strip sandwich with is mushrooms on a baguette and I love their breads, they are yummy and I am from SF so bread is on point. I just felt like maybe the sandwich was missing some more spices, maybe but the picked broccolini was very interesting. I also got the teabiscuit and I felt like it could have been more moist. The French dip was good but I don't like hard bread so the baguette not my thing. $70 later and not satisfied. Staff is great and owners care. I'll order differently next time. This is honestly a bit of a hidden gem. The bread is absolutely fantastic, which is what I was looking for in the first place, but it's hard to find vegetarian and vegan food sometimes and theirs is excellent. It was nice to go somewhere for breakfast my friend, who is allergic to eggs, has any real options. Getting to sit and watch them make bread while we are was also kinda fun, it's a very chill little place. I'm someone who will cheerfully eat anything, but my vegetable sandwich was legitimately delicious, and a fresh diversion from the heavier food that I have been having in the city.
