The glorious pistachio tahini chocolate king cake.
    Joi B.

Let me tell you about the best king cakes in the city... A bold claim, yes, but I will die on that sword. The first king cake I've had this year was the praline pecan and I positively swooned with one bite. Ok, but then I bought the pistachio tahini chocolate and even after eating it two days in a row, I am thinking about my next bite. It's that good. It may be the best thing I've eaten all year and it's already mid February. BRB... on my way to grab my final king cake before end of season!

This place stood out for their Vegan menu and food. Great selection of baked goods and bread. Their menu selections were good. Food tasted good overall. Not sure would get the grits again. They tased mostly of vegan butter/cheese with a slight aftertaste. The muffanada was great. This had flavor and loved the roll this was on. Coffee was pretty standard overall. The staff seemed friendly and you go up to the counter to order then sit down. Overall vibe is pretty chill. Would try more items here next time. Try them for yourself.

Established in 2012, Breads on Oak is a plant-based bakery & café. They specialize in organic, artisanal breads and vegan pastries but also offer plant-based breakfast & lunch items, in addition to organic fair-trade coffee & espresso. Having heard about this place for years, I decided to take an early morning walk to check it out. The café is charming and cozy with ample seating. The display case was lined with a variety of tempting offerings. Since I'm always on the hunt for a good biscuit, I decided to give the Peach Bourbon Biscuit a try. It had a nice flavor. The consistency was cakey. More like a scone than a flaky biscuit. I prefer biscuits made with real butter but, as an alternative, this was pretty good. I warmed up the other half and liked it better toasted with butter and jam. I would come back and try some of their breads and other pastries. If you are looking for a quality Vegan bakery, Breads on Oak is it.

I ordered a vegan biscuit sandwich from here and it was delicious. I also bought a mini vegan rum cake and that was also really good. The rum cake traveled well and was very cute well packaged well also. The staff was friendly. There's a lot of seating in this establishment.

My favorite lunch spot in NOLA all healthy natural ingredients good for the body and soul! Best vegan kin cakes in Town during Mardi Gras!

Everything was fresh and light. We tried the rum cake, vegan burger, chocolate cake, and brownies. It gave us the rejuvenation that was needed. Will definitely be back.

One of my favorite spots for breakfast in New Orleans. Everything is vegan and made daily, so everything tastes super fresh. They also give out free slices of bread with jam. The place is always busy, and is first come first serve so make sure to come early or they could run out of your favorite item for the day. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is tucked away in the cutest neighborhood in uptown. Always such a joy visiting. My favorite items are the pumpkin cheddar biscuit sandwich and the quiche.

My favorite bakery in the city! The employees are so friendly, the ambiance is homey, it has couches, low lighting and is comfortable for hanging out or studying. I love everything i've gotten from here! The biscuits are amazing! I'm a big fan of the sausage biscuit with cheddar, I like the egg-o vegan, but the tofu scramble is a little messy for me, still tastes amazing though. The pastries are also amazing! My favorite sweet is by far the chocolate croissants. I love the pink donuts with almond filling. I wasn't a huge fan of the matcha strawberry filled donut but i found it wasn't sweet enough for my liking, so if you prefer less sweet it may be for u! I've been loving the fries lately, the aioli they come with is amazing, it sort of tastes like a thick more flavorful ranch. The cheddar grits are great! I love the grilled cheese and tomato soup. They also sneak in a little spinach to the grilled cheese so i don't feel as unhealthy lol! For the vegan chef challenge month, they had a meatball sub which was to die for. Also love the french onion soup! So nice for a vegan bakery to carry such a wide variety of fresh and homemade items. I hadn't so many of these food items in years since going vegan and it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the food i used to love while honoring my morals. Last thing, they have a rewards program where every time you spend $100 you get $10 off!!! Overall my favorite cafe ever!!!

Service was fast! Nice ladies and quite a selection. Completely VEGAN! If this isn't you need, this is the place. Super cute!

Best sandwich i've had this entire year. It's only January 4 -- kidding aside, yes it's the best sandwich I've had in a long time and i'm not even vegan. I got the Live Food Sandwich with extra "bacon". The bread quality was excellent and the flavors packed a punch while still feeling healthy and filling. Side pickle was yummy. Had it with Crystal Hot Sauce. Will def try to get this again in future if I find myself in NOLA. Service was fast. Free cookie and bread+jam samples. Lots of seating indoors and outside.

Oh no! So sorry I missed this! Now I realize I didn’t change the hours on Yelp. Thanks for the heads up.

Y'all are listed as having the impossible burger online.. do y'all actually have it?

We sure do! We have it as is with our organic brioche bun or loaded with avocado and vegan cheese. Thanks for asking!

It seems you have some gluten free options, but no gluten free bread?

Exactly. We have Our toasted pecan fudge brownies and coconut rosemary cookies that are both gluten-free. Our breads are made with organic wheat flour and wild yeast sourdough which makes them low gluten, but not gluten-free. Thanks for asking!

Are any of the vegan baked goods also soy free?

Yes! We keep a list of ingredients/what is soy free at the bakery. Thanks for asking! Chamain

Do you ship your Vegan King's cakes? I'm in San Diego

Yes! In January/February through Mardi Gras. Thanks!

Hi Chamain, Do you take orders online for the Grand Ganache cake? Also, do you deliver? I'd like to…

You can call to make the cake order and depending on the area, we may be able to deliver for a delivery fee.

Do they make Birthday and other special occasion cakes?

We make a chocolate Grand Ganache cake with red currant center. You can get that whole. Thanks for asking!

Does anyone know if this company's breads are 100% sourdough? They seem unable to answer the question themselves so I thought I'd see if anyone out there has inside info!

Wow. I’m the owner and yes, we have several breads that are 100% sourdough (miche, multigrain and fruit & nut).

I thought we were going to another place when one of my guests suggested Thaihey across the street from the fire station on Decatur. Yes, sure. It's a typical Quarter restaurant with its long gallery seating. We were seated right away. The menu appeared to be heavily vegetarian which was great for my two friends. Many will understand the limited menu options for vegetarians at most places. Wes ordered Tom Kai, Becky the Massaman Jackfruit option and I the one with short rib. It was delicious. It was warm and comforting, full of flavor and the chef made it less spicy for me. What a delight to choose a menu option that I have never had and restaurant that I have never been to. You believe that I'll return for certain. Especially for that gorgeous Mai Tai!

This has to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the country. As a person who has tried lots of Indian restaurants, this place stands out above all. The service is impeccable. I wouldn't expect anything less given the quality and the taste of the food coming out of that kitchen. Our servers were very proper, very respectful, very courteous, and you could tell they were very proud of the food they were serving. The space is very well decorated, not a giant restaurant. If you don't already know who they are, you honestly don't expect what you're about to taste, and you're in for a ride. Every plate had something special to it. I didn't think I could fall in love again with lamb chops, but they proved me wrong. Reminded me of the first time I ever bit a GOOD lamb chop. I didn't think I would be impressed by (seemingly) fried chicken bits, but you too won't understand why they're so good when you bite into them. Fried cauliflower, AMAZING. Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! It is rare to find an experience where top-tier hospitality, a breathtaking environment, and great food come together so (seemingly) effortlessly. Café Amélie is an absolute must-visit! The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.
