I tried to ask the young woman behind the counter for her recommendations. She noted her favorite was the RA pasta. I really wanted to try gumbo and couldn't figure out the cup vs bowl sizing. I asked how large one was vs the other and she said one is a cup & other is a bowl. Lol um... so didn't really get an answer on that. Would be helpful to have the cup & bowl by the counter to compare size. Took awhile for the food to come out and we quickly ate since they closed at 8:30. The RA pasta was excellent. Made in a creamy coconut sauce. I could do without the fried mushrooms on top. Didn't add much to the dish. The gumbo was my favorite. Hearty and filling. I got the cup size since I ordered pasta. If you get the cup size & side dish that would be enough for dinner. The loaded nachos were so good too! Wish we had more time and space to try other items! As a local, I've noticed there are few vegan and health conscious restaurants, especially ones that serve dinner. I-tal Garden is the only vegan restaurant I eat at regularly because they prioritize both taste and nutrients in their meal preparation. My go-to order is the mac and cheese plate with greens and cauli-wings. I love the maple mustard sauce to pair with the cauli-wings. I'm also generally not a fan of greens or cornbread, but I actually like theirs. The ginger and lemon drink is a favorite as well, but I have a high tolerance for ginger. If you aren't accustomed to the spiciness of ginger, then you might not like it. I tend to order to-go via Uber Eats. The ambiance of the restaurant feels a bit too casual for dining in, and ther surrounding neighborhood doesn't offer much to make me want to walk around or shop to turn it into a longer outing. As a heads up: the wait time for the food can be a bit long, but I expect that because it's a small business operated by a family--and I imagine some of the food is prepared in small batches. I expect my order to take up to 45 minutes including time for an Uber Eats driver to commute. I usually plan ahead and place my order early when I know I'll want it. I really appreciate that they offer catering too! I want to try other dishes from I-tal Garden, but I'm too addicted to the mac and cheese plate lol. When I pointed out the issue, instead of taking accountability, the staff acted as though the mistake was somehow mine. There was zero sense of responsibility, zero willingness to correct the problem in a customer-friendly way, and absolutely no effort to make things right. It's frustrating to see a place with such great food fall so short on the basics of hospitality. If I'm expected to follow their guidelines to the letter, the least they could do is honor their own standards in return. Great food doesn't make up for service this dismissive. Boy, this was needed after we enjoyably consumed many sweet, buttery, highly rich foods/meals during this trip-lol. Having dinner at I-tal Garden the last evening in New Orleans was a good way to end the trip w/ a great-tasting vegan meal. I-tal Garden's decor includes colorfully painted walls, Afrocentric wall artwork, floor plants, plants on shelves, etc. There is both indoor & outdoor seating w/ an outdoor patio. High chair / table and standard chair / tables seating arrangements are there for indoor dining on the 1st floor. Decent southern vegan food, with an expansive menu and big portions. (3/5 is not a bad rating.) We stopped in for dinner one night quite hungry, and certainly left full. To start, I got the gumbo ($9 for a cup), which was overly salty, but had a decent spice mixture and broth depth, with plenty of veggies and quinoa. For my main, I got the I-tal plate ($15), which comes with black-eyed peas, rice, battered cauliflower, collard greens, and cornbread. Everything was decent, though I wish the black-eyed peas were more interesting. My wife got the mac n cheese plate ($15), which was solid; her highlight were the BBQ cauliflower wings. We also got a side potato salad ($5), which was pretty bland and unexciting. Quality-wise, this was middle-of-the-road, with nothing really standing out. Portions were huge and therefore the value good, but taste-wise, we weren't overly enthused. And they serve everything in plastic, disposable plates, so if even if you're dining in, there's a lot of waste from the serving choice. read more

I would give more stars if possible. This place is FANTASTIC! If you are vegan and/or gluten free (GF) put this as your first stop so that you can enjoy it more than once (we did!). Fried avocado = awesome Fried lemon pepper bites (mushroom) = awesome The breading is crispy and they are fried to perfection. We got these delivered both times and they did not suffer on the trip either. The Ital plate with curried chickpeas or black eyed peas - they are both delicious and served on a bed of quinoa. The grilled veggies are superb and the "candied sweet potatoes" are the best sweet potatoes I've had in my life. Somehow they cook up dry and firm with slight char/caramelization. I could eat these all day. Very fresh salads. Kale salad comes with quinoa and the lemon pepper mushrooms. The vegan ranch is light and dilly. I've never had crab cakes, but these are scrumptious too. The sauce they come with is a little sweet to me, but they are perfect with the drizzle provided. Thank you to the sweet soul who gave us some extra crabless cakes. I'll be eating those for breakfast tomorrow before hitting the airport. I guarantee they will be better than my other options here! The food was delicious, ample parking, clean and not over decorated, pretty space with plants, partially open kitchen and up/downstairs seating. There were families playing games & enjoying the time together. Not a lot of folks on phones and just a chill vibe with good music. Our food was not cheap but it was delicious. And we sampled a lot of stuff. The host/waiter is super patient, a cutie who meets you at the counter where most folks order. The staff of sisters is working quickly and professionally-- getting carry out orders, delivering plated meals already in to go ware and giving people whatever condiments or other things they need. We really loved: avocado fries, sweet potatoe pie, jackfruit ribs, mac and cheese-- is so good it reminds me of Soul Veg. I was expecting collards or mustards or even turnip greens but it was a mix of kale, cabbage, and mustards I believe. The flavor was ok and if in a pinch I'd order again but I had my mouth set up for some "green" greens. I ordered my food inside but togo and the staff forgot to call my name. My food was warm but not hot when they finally brought my order up. For $26 before gratuity, I expected way more food and flavor. The food was great!! Upon walking into the restaurant, you may go to the counter place your order and have a seat. The cashier informed us that there was about a 30 minutes after we placed our order which was suspected. I will say the 4/5 stars is from ordering, we felt rushed and the cashier seemed to be having an off night or maybe because it was a bit busy. We asked for recommendations or popular items and she just huffed and flipped the menu over. We ordered and waited about 30-40 mins for the food (which was completely okay given we were provided a heads up). Once we received our food the cashier gave me the bag and told me to check it because she only bagged our cauliflower wings. Good thing I checked because we were missing a couple of things. Once we got home we also noticed that our cauliflower wings didn't have any sauce on them given we ordered buffalo and bbq. I would love to try the restaurant but maybe earlier in the day when staff don't seem as overwhelmed. read more
