I've been to Break Your Fast before back when I went to college in the Bay but I've never left a review. I came back to visit and wanted to eat some breakfast here. Super glad I did. The service was super great. The servers tagged team so you were always able to ask for whatever you needed. We moved tables twice, the second time to the backroom seating area because it was quieter back there. We went before 10a and it got busier while we were there. It was still pretty chill with all the tables filled in the backroom. We ordered a Joe's Scramble with country potatoes , a Fried Chicken Benedict with white rice and some Beignets with chocolate sauce. Everything was really good. Food: The meals were so so. I ordered a breakfast burrito, it wasn't that great. It wasn't a scrambled egg with bacon and the onion, etc. that I'm used to. It was an egg that was overcooked but not scrambled, chunks of grey sausage, a store bought avocado, salsa, and sour cream. I didn't like the condiments but I needed them to cover up the bland taste of the burrito. The rest of the party somewhat enjoyed their meals. Service: The staff was kind and quickly accommodated our party of 8. We came in and although the front had every table occupied they placed us in the back, where it seems like used to be a bar area. Very homey. There were boxes, baby carriages, junk around, but we didn't mind since we just wanted breakfast. Overall:If you're hungry, it's a good place to go to, or if you have a larger party, it's a wonderful place to go to because you will be seated immediately. This was the perfect little brunch spot after a long hike! We decided to sit outside since it was beautiful out. The menu had alot of options. My boyfriend got breakfast and I got a burger. The food tasted delicious. I got fries to start with since I was so hungry. These fries are a must have! They are probably one of the best fries at a restaurant. Saying at least "thank you" after you paid has nothing to do with a big party in the back. It's appreciation, takes NO extra effort. I'm sorry, but if me needing a fork and never getting it to eat my hot food is considered acceptable because u only had 2 servers and a big party, then we completely disagree. If I could give zero stars, I would. I stood there with my husband for five minutes without a single acknowledgment. One server kept returning to the same table but never once said, "Hi," or "Sorry, we're busy--I'll be right with you." We were left standing, waiting for service with no explanation or even a glance in our direction. What a complete waste of time researching this place and thinking we were going to try something new and local. It looked friendly from the outside, but that impression quickly faded. Cons: - can get hot if you sit outside, not a ton of shade, no use of the umbrellas to cover from sun - My friend's fried chicken had a weird sour taste with her chicken and waffles - Can be quite a long wait on the weekend because it's popular, I feel like it's one of the only reliable brunch spots in Union City - not too large inside, not a lot of open seating if you have a party of more than 4 (wouldn't recommend for large parties with lots of different orders) - Service is a little slow, can't tell if they're understaffed. Tried Break Your Fast for the first time yesterday and it did not disappoint! I ordered the tuna melt with fries and an order of beignets. Tuna melt was delicious,no complaints. Loved the French fries - simply seasoned with salt and pepper. The beignets gave me the endorphins I needed to continue on with my day. I came here to brunch with my friend on a Monday and there was no wait for dine-in. I got the Breakfast Burrito with potatoes on the side. Breakfast Burrito- Very standard. It had eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham. Everything went together and all the different textures were great! I swear every time I come here I have a great experience. I can't lie, I was a little worried because I haven't been here since Covid began, but today they proved they've figured it out. The customer service here is always on 10. We walked up, ordered our food, paid and was told it would be 10-15 minutes and they brought us our food in 11 minutes. We ordered two Jimmy's skillets. I ordered mine with rice and white toast and my husband ordered his with potatoes and sourdough toast. Everything was hot, delicious and perfect just as if we were dining in. I love that they add salt, pepper and ketchup to their utensils because everyone doesn't take takeout home. We ate in the car in the parking lot. ‍ The prices here are a steal. Great deal for good food. I think I paid around $30 for two meals and we were full-full. Oh, and we ordered beignets with vanilla sauce. I wouldn't order those to go again unless I was eating them first or I was going to a microwave. I was having a tough weekend and decided to treat myself to a Sunday breakfast. Did a quick search of restaurants I haven't tried and Break Your Fast caught my eye. Called in our order for takeout and picked up our food about 20 minutes later. Finding them wasn't easy as they're sort of behind the shopping center they're in. They have a table setup right at the entrance so you don't have to walk all the way in which is great and safe for these times. The person that helped us was very nice and quick. On to the food. I always try to get chicken and waffles whenever I see it on a menu. These stand above the rest! The waffles seemed fried which just locked in the sweetness even more and added a nice crunch. The chicken was juicy and the breading was nice and crunchy with a little spice to get your morning going. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce that came with it. It was a little pungent and tasted kind of sour. I didn't add it to everything, thankfully. The beignets were incredible. They were sweet, fluffy on the inside yet crunchy on the outside. I was torn between the chocolate and vanilla sauces which means I need to go back for the vanilla sauce. Got seated and service in this very small cute space of a spot took oddly very long to order. So, checking in doesn't help either - the offer is for beignets from 6pm - 11pm and there was a note on the door that they eliminated evening service.
