This review is long overdue, as I've been coming here since 2015 and it has consistently remained a local favorite for a breakfast that never misses. The staff is always very friendly, the food is solid, and the prices are fair, typically ranging from $9 to $18 per plate. On my most recent visit, we had the chicken and waffles, loco moco, and beignets. While the vanilla beignets are my personal favorite and the chicken was perfectly crispy, the real stars of the show were the waffles--they were incredibly crispy, sweet, and soft.
Don't be surprised if there's a line waiting to get in. Very popular among the locals but they offer something for everyone. The food is fresh and served quickly. A relaxing interior feels cozy. From basic breakfast to specialty dishes you can't go wrong.
Humble restaurant with good food. I have been here before and have tried a few of their breakfast. In this visit, we bought beignet as niece was craving. It was satisfying. Crisps on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.
Cute local brunch spot! Came for a birthday party and they accommodated our group of 8 on a Sunday. Staff is attentive, cozy and homey feel. Well-maintained restaurant. Affordable pricing for delicious food! Got the chicken & waffles and country fried steak lunch. CHICKEN & WAFFLES: really great waffles. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Fried chicken was not too dry and was flavorful COUNTRY FRIED STEAK LUNCH: the gravy is a bit salty but the salad balanced it out well. The salad dressing was a basic olive oil balsamic vinaigrette. The fries were thin and crispy My boyfriend and I got there early and ordered a mimosa for the birthday girl, which our waitress told us to just give us a signal and she would bring out. Our waitress was kind enough to also bring out some treats for the birthday girl: dessert beignets! Would recommend!!
People say that it's a hidden gem, which is quite true because it's hard to find the location of the spot and not many people seem to know this place unless they tell their friends about it. The place looks really small, crowded, and decorative inside but if you walk more towards the back, there's probably more seatings. I honestly expect this place to be packed where I have to wait for more than 20 minutes, but again, it doesn't really seem to receive a lot of attention. Honestly, the food is good and portion size is neither too small nor big. Usually, some restaurants serve bigger portions. At least I didn't get full though and save my stomach for lunch. I was quite surprised when the pancake combo is $11 ($9 before 9am) while three-stack is $12.50. Price is quite reasonable due to portion size. The issue is when I needed my change after paying for the meal. I guess that either the staff forgot about it or some miscommunication. Not sure though, but they seem to be very busy, which I understand. I was expecting them to get it as soon as I pay for it, but went straight to doing other tasks.
You really can't go wrong starting with some warm beignets, soo good! I had the crab cake Benedict, and as a bit of a Benedict connoisseur, I loved it. It was delicious! I also love that you have the option of either a side of rice or potatoes. I opted for the potatoes this time. It had been years since we last ate here, but we'll definitely be back much sooner this time.
This used to be my goto breakfast place back when I lived in the Bay. The staff is always very nice and accommodating. Giving out recommendations and small talk. My favorite goto items is the chicken and waffles and their Beef Korean Bowl. The korean bowl comes with veggies, rice and rhe meat. They also give you their own type of bibimbap sauce. Which gives a whole other level of flavors. Also, their serving sizes are good and fillings. Today I tried their chocolate beignets for the first time. And they were pretty good. But I think next time I'll stick to the Vanilla flavor.
This place is a Union City staple. Known for their Beignets and them being small business has helped it uped its traffic. I think place is nice, small but a great breakfast place. Priced are good compared to other places. Ambiance is feels cozy like they put their personality into it. What I got : Eggs Benedict 4/5 Beignets : 4/5 Garlic fries 5/5 Chicken and Waffles 4/5 Eggs Benedict has 2 muffins, 3 eggs, and 3 Canadian Bacon, served with potatoes. I thought it was good but I felt like the potatoes could of been more crispy Beignets were nice but felt like they could of been more fluffy. We did it with a drizzle with both chocolate sauce and vanilla sauce. Garlic fries were really good, lots of garlic and nice and crispy My friend got the chicken and Waffles. Both were nice and crispy.
Such a gem of a small, family-run business! My husband and I stopped by Break Your Fast on a whim while exploring new local spots, and we're so glad we did. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can tell they put a lot of care into what they do. While the beignets weren't quite the traditional fluffy style I expected--they leaned more biscuit-like in texture--they were still tasty. If you try them, definitely go for the homemade vanilla sauce--it's rich, creamy, and pulls it all together. My favorite, though, was the fruit cup. I'm usually not into melon-heavy mixes, so I was thrilled to see one full of fresh berries instead. It was refreshing and felt like a step above your typical fruit side. If you're looking to support a passionate local team and enjoy some creative, comforting breakfast bites, Break Your Fast is absolutely worth the visit.
The food was great. I enjoyed the Good service and enjoyed the music Playlist. I have visited for the 2nd time. I like the early bird special!
Came here on a Saturday morning for a quick bite. Ordered the early bird special #3 biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs with ham. The dish was a bit salty, other than that it was decent. The beignets were delicious. I always love getting beignets from here. The service was okay nothing bad or anything that really stood out. Also forgot there is seating in the back which was nice, because the front was packed. read more

Food: The meals were so so. I ordered a breakfast burrito, it wasn't that great. It wasn't a scrambled egg with bacon and the onion, etc. that I'm used to. It was an egg that was overcooked but not scrambled, chunks of grey sausage, a store bought avocado, salsa, and sour cream. I didn't like the condiments but I needed them to cover up the bland taste of the burrito. The rest of the party somewhat enjoyed their meals. Service: The staff was kind and quickly accommodated our party of 8. We came in and although the front had every table occupied they placed us in the back, where it seems like used to be a bar area. Very homey. There were boxes, baby carriages, junk around, but we didn't mind since we just wanted breakfast. Overall:If you're hungry, it's a good place to go to, or if you have a larger party, it's a wonderful place to go to because you will be seated immediately. Other than that, I wasn't that impressed, I don't think I will try it again based off that burrito. read more
This was the perfect little brunch spot after a long hike! We decided to sit outside since it was beautiful out. The menu had alot of options. My boyfriend got breakfast and I got a burger. The food tasted delicious. I got fries to start with since I was so hungry. These fries are a must have! They are probably one of the best fries at a restaurant. The burger was cooked perfect and juicy. The service was amazing and the ladies were very friendly. Great customer service. Would recommend if you're in the area. read more

Have come here multiple times pre and post pandemic, about time for a review! Our order the last time we went: I got the eggs benedict, we got the beignets, and my friend got the chicken and waffles Pros: - Reasonably priced brunch for the quantity of food you're getting - Pretty vast menu of all typical brunch food, so if you go here with different people there should be something appealing to everyone who comes (think omelets, eggs benny, waffles, etc) - Easy parking or BARTable, in the big plaza with Happy Lemon - Decent food - I would say that my eggs benny were nothing special but also not terrible, it was exactly as we expected, I had no complaints - Not too long of a wait on weekday mornings, especially if you're down to sit outside - The beignets really hit the spot, 5 for $3 isn't bad - they're NOT going to be as good as Cafe Du Monde or Brenda's in SF etc but not bad. Cons: - can get hot if you sit outside, not a ton of shade, no use of the umbrellas to cover from sun - My friend's fried chicken had a weird sour taste with her chicken and waffles - Can be quite a long wait on the weekend because it's popular, I feel like it's one of the only reliable brunch spots in Union City - not too large inside, not a lot of open seating if you have a party of more than 4 (wouldn't recommend for large parties with lots of different orders) - Service is a little slow, can't tell if they're understaffed. Overall really not a bad place to brunch, I've come here for multiple things including to do a group project and it was overall a positive experience. Would come again. Now too shabby! Not to bad for a local in the wall restaurant. We swung by to grab a quick brunch and a dessert before hitting the road. The restaurant is small itself but nevertheless staff were so friendly!! Located In the UnionCity shopping center off Decoto, near the rite aid & 99CentStores store, behind the UPS store, corner shop & tucked in the back. I parked near the nail place and walked to the back as I didn't see it. Small little cafe with about 3 tables outside and maybe 5 small tables inside. Food was good, reasonable priced. Arrived about 1130 am and seated quickly, a rush of people (9 or so) came after us and it was at maximum capacity then. The beignets were delicious warm & still tasty cold. Got the chicken strips & waffles and was good. Daughter got the kids breakfast with pancakes, eggs and bacon. Overall, Would try again for the eggs Benedict if I close by. read more
Amazing breakfast spot. Really enjoyed their coffee for starters. The Veggie scramble is great, lots of flavor and fresh ingredients. We ordered some Beignets and they were amazing with chocolate sauce. It looks like it can get pretty busy so be prepared to wait a couple minutes but the service is really great so that helps as well. read more

I came here to brunch with my friend on a Monday and there was no wait for dine-in. I got the Breakfast Burrito with potatoes on the side. Breakfast Burrito- Very standard. It had eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham. Everything went together and all the different textures were great! Usually, I experience the eggs getting soggy, but it was super fluffy and silky in this one. I do wish the potatoes on the side was more crunchy because it was soft. Overall, I would come here again and get something else! After all, the prices are great for the quantity! read more

I swear every time I come here I have a great experience. I can't lie, I was a little worried because I haven't been here since Covid began, but today they proved they've figured it out. The customer service here is always on 10. We walked up, ordered our food, paid and was told it would be 10-15 minutes and they brought us our food in 11 minutes. We ordered two Jimmy's skillets. I ordered mine with rice and white toast and my husband ordered his with potatoes and sourdough toast. Everything was hot, delicious and perfect just as if we were dining in. I love that they add salt, pepper and ketchup to their utensils because everyone doesn't take takeout home. We ate in the car in the parking lot. The prices here are a steal. Great deal for good food. I think I paid around $30 for two meals and we were full-full. Oh, and we ordered beignets with vanilla sauce. I wouldn't order those to go again unless I was eating them first or I was going to a microwave. They're delicious, but I prefer them hot and soft and brought with the sauce poured over them and not on the side. Overall great experience and I definitely plan to return. read more

A family style cafe that has a unique style. We were seated right a way with a friendly waiter who had extensive knowledge of the menu. I ordered the beignet as they reminded me of New Orleans to go with my coffee. I mixed my eggs Benedict order as the waiter recommended since it was my first time here. I enjoyed my breakfast here and this will be on the return list. read more
I was having a tough weekend and decided to treat myself to a Sunday breakfast. Did a quick search of restaurants I haven't tried and Break Your Fast caught my eye. Called in our order for takeout and picked up our food about 20 minutes later. Finding them wasn't easy as they're sort of behind the shopping center they're in. They have a table setup right at the entrance so you don't have to walk all the way in which is great and safe for these times. The person that helped us was very nice and quick. On to the food. I always try to get chicken and waffles whenever I see it on a menu. These stand above the rest! The waffles seemed fried which just locked in the sweetness even more and added a nice crunch. The chicken was juicy and the breading was nice and crunchy with a little spice to get your morning going. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce that came with it. It was a little pungent and tasted kind of sour. I didn't add it to everything, thankfully. The beignets were incredible. They were sweet, fluffy on the inside yet crunchy on the outside. I was torn between the chocolate and vanilla sauces which means I need to go back for the vanilla sauce. I really hope this place makes it through the pandemic and I know I'll be coming back again to try out more of the menu. read more

It's a little mom and pop. . The food was good, wide variety on the menu. I was really impressed. The kids who work there are pretty nice and they give good customer service. They were very accommodating. The portion size was good and they added jalapeños to my omelette. I'll say I'll be back. Just say yes. The guy next to me is a regular and made some good suggestions . He was spot on. I got the garden omelette . It was light. And very filling. The eggs were very light and fluffy. The hash browns were flaky mmmm perfect. read more

If you're thinking about going here for breakfast or brunch, the answer is YES, You should! Go here for breakfast or brunch/lunch (they close pretty early) if you're looking for a homestyle type of break fast. The staff was super friendly and accommodating to my needs since I was live streaming at the time (twitch.tv/amkidd). There were a good amount of tables available and even had outdoor seating. I ordered the Sausage Patty Benedicts and I don't think it could've been any better than this. The eggs practically melted over the patty and bread when cracked open, cooked just right to run over it. It was served with fried potato crisps (I believe) and it was the perfect compliment to the fluffiness of the Benedict. Beignets - 5 stars Veggie Benedict - 4 stars Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning, can't wait to come back! The beignets were so good, they were crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. The Veggie Benedict was also quite good - the veggies could have been seasoned a bit more but the eggs were cooked perfectly and the English muffin was nice and soft. I had a taste of the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was light and not too oily, the waffles were crispy. Overall the food here was great, no complaints. Customer service was good - the food and check came quickly. The prices here are very affordable. Highly recommend this cute breakfast/lunch spot (make sure to get the beignets!) read more
My husband and I were supposed to go to another breakfast place in the Old Niles area for my birthday breakfast after church but the place was packed so we drove back to Decoto and decided to eat here. I really don't feel bad giving 1 star to this place, why? Read on.... 1. It's only 9am and the waiter seem to have no energy to greet customers... hmmm, maybe he didn't have a good sleep last night... 2. We ordered coffee, Egg Hollandaise w/ Potatoes, a side of Country Fried Steak and Beignets... Beignets came first, it looks good though but when I took a bite, it was cold. 3. A cute place in Union city. The prices are reasonable. My go to breakfast order tends to be eggs Benedict but this place makes their ham dry and the sauce does not taste the best. Called ahead for a "reservation" Got there and had to wait anyway behind other walk in's. So that was interesting. Got seated and service in this very small cute space of a spot took oddly very long to order. Opened my silverware and it had looked like there was film, told the server and she said "it was just water" so being that we are expecting a lot of viruses you can not trust that anything not super clean is just water looked more like unclean. But she replaced it with cleaner silverware. I ordered w/ company: *the corn beef and the eggs were to be somewhat runny, were fully cooked. 2/5 *Beignets 4/5 (hard to match but good at this spot) *chicken and waffles looked best (5/5) * coffee * water $30 Pricing is fair I would say the customer service could definitely get better it was more of "thank you but wait" type of service & it didn't come around often. Tables were cleaned off immediately so that was nice to see aside from my experience. Early Saturday morning. Intimate corner of the plaza. Ate here a few years ago, thought it was overhyped... Family members love it! thought we'd give it another go... Took Gpa there before an all day excursion to Kaiser. He wanted biscuits & gravy, they were out at 9:30 am... So they are either very popular or they didn't plan out the menu. Either way he ordered linguica and eggs it came with potatoes and sourdough toast. He loved it... That's amazing! He loves to complain. A little dementia makes him think he's funny! We also ordered the beignets, delish! all that and 2 coffees for 15 bucks?! I say it was a deal, also we ate on the patio and it was a lovely summer morning. Service was good. Place is hidden behind the Safeway shopping center near bart. I would go back and recommend it... but, heads up~ It's a tiny place! read more
