What a lovely gem of a spot in the Arts District of Culver City! I picked up a breakaway grains salad from the cafe and was pleasantly surprised at how large it is, so for the price the value is quite good as I can see myself eating this over at least 2 meals! The quality of the produce is fresh and the egg was perfectly cooked to 7 minute perfection. Lots of grains that come with the salad, fresh hummus and a perfectly just slightly tart lemon vinaigrette goes so well with the salad. We stopped by this place for lunch during the Great LA Walk on November 23, 2024. We were starving by then, and Breakaway Cafe has many healthy options to satiate our appetite. Breakfast burrito is a thing here, but I ordered a bowl of salad and grains. The ingredients were fresh and tasted great. The portion was substantial, and it sustained me for the remaining 8 miles of the walk. It was not immediately obvious that we had to order at the counter, but the staff did bring the food out to us. This place was a Culver City gem. Can't believe I've never heard of it. It's a small industrial cafe with beachy vibes and a gender neutral restroom It's clean and has good service. Great meet up or solo space to enjoy their menu filled with a variety of breakfast items or their tasty beverages. It's pretty self serve and no table service so if you're looking to get catered to, this is not the spot for you. My tea and Sammy's breakfast sandwich cost a total of $22.88 so a bit on the pricey side. I did add avocado and mushrooms which was an up charge. This spot was a "breakaway" from my normal cafes. There was very easy parking on Washington for a Sunday early afternoon and enough foot traffic to fill the cafe. Despite it being busy, there was still seating options inside and outside. One of the baristas recommended the sandwich over the burrito and I'd say it was a good call. I would ask for extra aioli next time and potentially some hot sauce, but that's just because that's how I like it. It was still good on its own. The coffee was not too sweet and not bitter at all. Which I really appreciate. I hung out and worked for about an hour and even when new customers came in, there were still seating options for them. Their mushroom breakfast burrito THICK AND HEARTY! I called in my order, got there and was unfortunately stuck behind a group of like 6 folks ordering everything including the kitchen sink. It felt like forever, they had one register and one person, no pick up line ( understandable, people probably don't order pick up as much) but the line got so long people were steady coming in but the lady at the counter never told the big group " hey go ahead and grab your seats AFTER you order". They were all their just taking space for no reason. That was the most frustrating part especially since I had to literally wait for an order that was already made. Let me begin by saying that I'm an animal lover. Our dog travels everywhere with us most times. She was not with us on this trip. Two women came in with a mid-size dog and ordered. However they did not take it to go, nor did they eat outside. They ate inside where not only did they feed the dog their food, but the dog also jumped up onto the bench to eat off the table. None of the workers said anything, and I could tell the couple next to them were uncomfortable. I liked this place, I didn't love it. They have a small, but adequate menu, the gal behind the counter was definitely helpful enough to decide what to get. I went with the breakfast sandwich with mushrooms. Again, wasn't bad, but wasn't very flavorful, just seemed bland. She did mention the burrito is a popular choice, so I think I may go back and order it. It's a small venue with some outdoor seating. A seriously delicious brunch. I have passed this place many times, but yesterday morning was my first time trying it. The menu is not very large, but they do have a lot of great options. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you. They have outdoor and indoor seating, but parking will be street parking. We were lucky and were able to find a parking space less than a block away. The food came out pretty quickly, so the service was definitely prompt. I started off with the Chicken and Wild Rice Soup, and I was actually not a fan. The rice at the bottom was a bit hard, and there wasn't nearly enough chicken in it for my taste. I followed that up with the Bread, Butter & Jam and it was very good. We ate all of it, and we're very happy with it. For my entrée, I chose the BLTA and it was actually really great. Tons of bacon on it and a lot of avocado. I would highly recommend it and would order it again. We also ordered the Breakfast Sammie and it was small in size but big in flavor. The brioche bun really made it. Overall a really solid breakfast or lunch option in Culver City. The pricing was fair in my opinion, especially compared to some other breakfast places not far from this one. I plan to be back in the future to try more items. read more

Came here Sunday after an outdoor workout. There seemed to be a constant stream of people in and out of the place so I take it as a pretty popular spot but not overcrowded which was great. I came here to do some OT for my job. They have WiFi and I saw a couple of other people working on their laptops as well. I ordered a large americano and an egg white breakfast sandwich. The coffee was pretty good. The sandwich supposedly had a garlic mayo I believe which I felt wasn't good and didn't have much garlic in it. Really enjoyed my visit to Breakaway Cafe!! Came on a busy Saturday morning. It's a small space and nearly every table was packed! Most tables seat 2 people but they have 2-3 four person tables as well as outdoor seating. First thing I noticed is that it's very loud - partly due to the number of people in a small space but also due to the music blasting. I wouldn't recommend as a spot to study, but great to grab breakfast or lunch with friends!! Staff was very friendly. I ordered an iced vanilla latte (~$6; their current seasonal syrup is maple btw) and a breakfast burrito ($12; can add bacon, mushrooms, or prosciutto cotto for additional $2). Latte was great, and breakfast burrito was a huge serving - very filling, best with hot sauce and/or salsa verde. I honestly could've been full with just half the burrito, which is great value for the price! And look at those grill marks! Street parking nearby. Gender neutral single restroom in the back. Might have to wait to get a seat, and they don't take reservations. Overall enjoyed it and would come back! read more

I have been to Breakaway Cafe four times now and have absolutely loved it every time!! Just brought my youngest son and his girlfriend here for lunch on a rainy Monday afternoon, when you wouldn't expect any place to be too packed. Well, I guess the word has gotten out about this lovely little joint, because when we walked in around 1 PM, the place was as busy as I've ever seen it. Fortunately, there were still a couple of tables open. The staff is so nice, friendly and accommodating. I have always been greeted with a smile every time. Today was no exception. We ordered two burgers (one with a side of crispy potatoes and one with a side salad) and a breakfast burrito, and two cappuccinos. Son and his girlfriend were very pleased with their meals and so was I. They also commented on the nice, relaxed vibe of the little restaurant. My burger was yummy and I l am a fan of their salads, with the perfect amount of dressing - not too little, not soggy. Son's gf went back and ordered a large chocolate chip cookie, which we all split. Tasted fresh and homemade. On the other occasions, I have visited, I've been here with my boyfriend. We ordered the breakfast sandwich and the egg shakshuka and salad. I've posted pictures of those. Both were delicious, fresh, tasting, and satisfying. Also, their coffee is so strong, just the way I like it! Unfortunately, since I am a late bird, we have basically closed the place down every time we have visited. We were visiting L.A. and this place had great reviews so we gave it a try. I'm a big breakfast person, so when we walked in, I might have looked a little disappointed. Breakaway seemed more like a cafe with smaller/lighter menu items, not a big breakfast place. Lets just say I was not disappointed. We found a few menu items that looked promising and ordered away. We ordered a Breakfast Burrito, Breakfast Sammy and the Egg Plate. All were very good and plentiful. We were given a number when ordering and the items were delivered to our table. The staff were all very friendly and the order came out quickly. Take a look at the pictures. But wait, they also have Red Beards hot sauce (x1).
