I'm so disappointed in this place. Their disorganization and lack of professionalism is completely unacceptable! ! I made a reservation for Mother's Day 2 WEEKS AGO. During the time I tried to make that reservation I was hung up on twice and then when I called back a third time they told me they did not take reservations which was a LIE! The website says they do indeed take reservations and to call to make one. Upon the third time I called back I was able to make the reservation so they DO actually take reservations. A day before Mother's Day I called to confirm my reservation and was told they had no reservation in their system for me. I told them I made a reservation two weeks ago and there should be no reason they did not see my reservation. They offered me an excuse and then remade the reservation for me for the next day for 3-4 people as I request. When I showed up at 10am (my reservation time) there were no tables available aside for 1 table that was for a party of 6 people. I told them I made my reservation 2 weeks ago then again the day before. It appeared the waiter acting as manger that day was aware of me from my name and confirmed I indeed did schedule a reservation despite not being on this piece of paper the receptionist had. We were told by the receptionist to wait 5 minutes and she would seat us. We waited for much longer. We stood in the cramped doorway while the receptionist and waiters ignored us and went about their duties pretending we were not there. A white mother and father came in with two children and said they had a reservation for 10am (same as us) and they were told they did not have a reservation listed for them. However, two minutes later he and his family were seated at a roomy nice table for 6 people. Me and my family were there 10 minutes waiting before that family came in and they never offered to seat us at that six person table. We were told by the waiter/manager that it's because they had kids. I call bullshit. We had to wait until a table of ladies finally got up to be seated and the table we were seated at was way too small. Our plates could barely fit in the table. The table was actually for a table of two. Eventually I asked to be moved to a bigger available table I saw that had been empty for a while and I was told no. I doubt it was due to hygienic reasons because the table we were seated at was sticky, in fact we overheard two other groups of people say their tables were sticky. We had our order taken and then we were completely ignored our entire dining experience. The wait staff walked pass us many times and no one NO ONE checked on us or cared. I was only able to once flag down the waiter to ask for the check. No one ever came over to check on us or ask us if we needed anything. First of all, Google lied to us about how far away this place was from our hotel, so a 1-and-change mile walk turned into 2.5+ mile walk. I was definitely ready for brunch when we arrived and definitely felt like I had earned it. I had the chilaquiles which were tasty but nothing particularly special, same thing for the breakfast burrito. I like what Leah C. says in her review about "diner food without the diner feel," and definitely think that's an appropriate assessment. The environment says fancy restaurant, but I don't think the menu really got the message (at least for breakfast). Here's the rub, though--my boyfriend ordered a bloody mary and it came with a toothpick through the garnishes, nothing unusual. However, they used some sort of sorcery to get the toothpick through the olive, because when he bit into the olive, he chipped his tooth on the pit. So that was a bummer and put a pretty big damper on our breakfast (as well as on his wallet when he has to get it fixed). Moral of the story: Food is fine, restaurant is classy, beware of olives. read more

It was way different than we expected just because of the name, but it was fantastic. I had the chilaquiles, which I get a lot when we go to bfast but this by far was my favorite one! Real corn tortilla chips, fresh beans and chorizo - AMAZING! My SO got the chicken and waffles, really good. Only thing is chicken was on the bone and really hot so it was hard to eat with the waffle. Other than that, we will definitely be back to try some more. read more

Great experience here! Although the restaurant was packed, we were quickly able to be seated and served. The waiter was extremely attentive and my water never reached more than half empty. The food came out fast and was delicious. I had the turkey Ruben and fries and everything tasted great and was the perfect portion size. Other items at my table were the salmon Benedict and the breakfast burrito, everyone was happy with their food and nobody had any complaints! Really glad I finally tried this restaurant for breakfast! Went there with a friend who had been there previously and who also recommended the place to me in the past so obviously he is a fan! We started off with their intelligentsia coffee and a mango mimosa... both were great! Then the food.. I built my own omelette with 2 toppings, side of potatoes, and chocolate chip pancake (yum!) My friend went for the Paris omelette which he said was great as well. The seasoning they used on the potatoes was very flavorful but not overpowering which I liked. We had a few more mimosas and people watched since the place was very crowded but did not seem chaotic. Lots of families with their kids and they also have a great outdoor patio. Service was great and overall it was a very pleasant experience here at Breakfast House. Highly recommend and I know I will be back soon! PS.. Its a great stop before heading to an early Cubs game! There are a lot of places in Chicago to get brunch and breakfast on the weekend. Unfortunately, many of those places are over hyped, too expensive and just not worth it. Breakfast House is definitely not one of them. Overall, Breakfast house is a great neighborhood brunch place at a good value. I got the BTL eggs Benedict, chicken sausage, pancakes and coffee. The eggs Benedict featured some great bacon and perfectly poached eggs. The breakfast potatoes were cooked very well. The pancakes were fluffy and yummy. The while I prefer regular sausage, chicken sausage was flavorful and good. Ordering was easy and the food came out hot and fast. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. The value is good. For everything I mentioned plus another cup of coffee, I spend less than $38.00 (including tax, but not including tip). Also parking is very easy. This place gets 5 stars for service and 4 stars for taste. The service was great. Our waiter was always checking up on us and seeing if we needed more coffee and how our food was. The food was pretty good I got the chili quiles and asked for extra black beans and it was pretty good. They do have an outdoor patio just in case you want to sit outside during the summer time but the inside looked very nice as well. read more

Thought I'd like this place and wanted to, but there were a few issues: At first, it was just the missing drink, annoying, but whatever. Called the restaurant to ask if they ran out and was told first that they must've forgot to pack it. THEN, someone else spoke to the guy who told him they did, saying the Uber driver must've taken it. "You don't know about those drivers sometimes, yknow?" Looking at how the food was packed, I could understand why a less than honest uber driver might decide to take a drink, but I'll go into that later. After eating the steak and eggs with salsa from delivery, I got sick yesterday. First within the hr of eating. Got sore throat and started coughing with headache, which also woke me up today at 530am. That was the first thing I ate yesterday and felt perfectly fine beforehand. My roommate ordered the grilled steak but didn't eat the salsa, so not sure if it was the salsa or eggs in mine, or the odd spice used in the apple French toast that tasted a bit like fennel. My roommate also noticed this, and neither of us liked it much or thought it should've been in the FT. All other drinks had just been put in caddy without any attempt to wrap them to keep from tampering with by driver. Same with food packed in plastic bags. If I were the restaurant, I'd start using TAMPER TAPE to prevent possible messing with by drivers post packing. Pack food in bags, then use tamper tape around loops after tying. Beverages I'd wrap in cellophane and put in plastic or paper bag with or without caddy and use tamper tape as well. That way, if something happens, particularly now with covid, the driver is definitely to blame for anything that's missing or food eaten or touched after packing/before delivery. Food safety is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THESE DAYS to me. My vision isn't great so I rarely got out anyway. AND, I don't make a habit of ordering out every day or writing bad reviews. I grew up in a restaurant where my mom was scrupulous about food handling, prep and pack for the nearly 40 yrs it was around. It's not just about how good something tastes, ESPECIALLY now, it's also about the extra steps taken that show a restaurant cares about how the food gets to the customer and about their health, NOT just turning a profit. While not all restaurants take extra care with packaging or use tamper tape, the fact that there were issues that could've been prevented or at least helped limit possible theft or contamination by drivers that this restaurant didn't take AND I got sick from the food means I won't order here again. NOT worth the $91 after tip. Health comes first with me, and if a place can't take a bit of extra, inexpensive effort to show they're aware and care, I'm not going there again. For the places that do, I always notice and thank them for it! DEFINITELY with beverages, more care needs tb taken. If you know (which those guys I talked to did) that drivers sometimes take or mess with foid, you should take extra steps to prevent that: wrap the beverages before putting them in a caddy, and put the entire caddy or drinks IN a bag and use some tamper tape. That way, at least the customer saw you tried and know to let uber know to get rid of this driver. And honestly, at this point I'm just pissed. NO ONE likes going from feeling fine before eating to being sick after. read more

Great service Great food My husband and I had breakfast , I had two egg with home fries and chicken sausage; the chicken sausage was the best I ever had!! Egg were done to perfection! My husband had the vegetable frittata was done very well and was delicious. He ordered a plate of waffles that we shared and they were fresh and lite with lots of seasonal fresh fruit served with my Hot maple syrup. Cappuccino perfect and coffee hit the spot. My girlfriend and I have started coming here for brunch on Sundays, and after having visited several times now, we've decided it's our new favorite breakfast/brunch spot. Everything we've ordered so far has been incredibly tasty--surprisingly so. The cornmeal cakes, chilaquiles, chorizo hash, omelettes, and pancakes have all been superb and flavorful. Portions are just the right amount to leave us satisfied but not feeling gross. Service has also been great with friendly waitstaff. The last time we were there I accidentally left my card and the manager, after finding it, ran out to catch me and hand it to me in person.
