The New employee cannot do math and is giving the wrong change, called my fiancé a proustite, gave me change in all coins, and locked me out of the store and turned off the lights even though its a 24 hour gas station. we are daily customers and I have been going here for the past 15 years. All the staff is excellent, but if this employee continues to work there, several more people are sure to complain that he shuts down work inside and out at 11:55 when its a 24 hour gas station. read more

Ivan and Dan are great. My car died in my driveway so I called Breaking Point Shell. They sent two people over within ten minutes. They jump started my car and drove it back to the shop. They called within 20 minutes to recommend a new battery and had it replaced and ready for me 30 mins later. They even drove it back to my house because I had no way of picking it up. I called this place seeing that the are close to my house to see what the cost would be to replace control arms on the front end of my car. I was told they don't install customer supplied parts. Wow! I have a place that I get parts at whole sale, much cheaper then the mark up that places like this are going to charge for parts, not to mention their labor is probably ridiculous. I had all four brakes and rotors done there....lasted 20k miles....??? Had to pay another 400 for the rear brakes and rotors to be RE-done... 60K miles on the car and this is the 3rd rotor and pad replacement...shoddy parts...?? They also charged me 30$ to replace a brake light.....??really?? The owner even said to me over the phone..."where have you been having your work done"? Had to suggest he look at his books (because they did the work) before making a comment like that Wont ever be going back....sorry...even though I am a local, better to find someone else. read more

The guy that runs this place is absolute slime. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. If you leave a car there for a routine repair prepare to be overcharged by 100%. They don't even give an itemized copy of the work they claim to have performed. They put all the charges on labor not parts, and claim they are saving you sales tax. Yesterday while driving to work I heard a noise in my engine that scared me. I went.to the breaking point shell repair center in Northfield and spoke with the owner Dan. I left the car with him to check it out, and for my convenience and to my surprise he offered me a loaner wrangler jeep to drive so I could get to my job. Now that's service! He called me shortly and told me what the problem was and quoted me a price. He said it would be done by 6 PM that same day and I could pick it up anytime since they're open 24 hours. I picked it up after work and was taken for a test drive with the head mechanic Ivan , it sounds great!! Purrs like a kitten !! Thanks to Danny and Ivan , I'll see you again. read more

these guys are an awful bunch. my brother drove my older van... 2001 caravan into shop for muffler. they quoted 600.00 said it had to be factory muffler. omg..really. try universal 89.99 part. crooks. tonite 1130pm i notice car air was low when i came in from dog walk. ran car over, i asked clerk if there was air at shop for tire he was playing game or texting on fone and ignored no eye contact or response.i asked 3 times with a smile in my voice. women and teenagers stay away. not good enough. btw... i was going to ask them to quote brakes.. people have choices , i opt out. Horrible experience with Breaking Point in Northfield. Had a flat tire. They replaced my Pirelli tire with a tire they had in hand. No discussion, just did it. Immediately upon picking up my car and paying $202, I asked to have the owner call me. Never happened. Had to keep calling and stopping by. When we finally met he said that they had put on a "race car tire" instead of Pirelli-- like that one odd tire was going to help the performance. PLEASE, don't insult my intelligence. Now I have 3 Pirelli tires and this odd tire. Owner said they would take the tire back and put on my donut, but charge me $90. This just adds insult to injury. PS. they even charged me $6.50 for the tire disposal and state fee, when I had the damaged tire in my trunk. read more

I can't disagree more with the negative review - been going here for years for tires, minor and major problems with multiple cars, service is always EXCELLENT - owner helpful and informative, everything affordable, efficient, in and out quickly, everything well documented - showed me all the work. My husband and I feel blessed to have this excellent service station (emphasis on good old fashioned service!) so close to our home and so quickly and constantly able to help us with whatever our cars need. read more

Would not recommend coming here for a tire! Charged me $150 tire and labor plus 10 dollar tax for a tire. GO TO NTB instead! The labor cost me $39. Tire cost $100. Company they got the tire from sent the wrong tire had to wait another hour for the correct tire to be brought back. He paid $66 for the tire he gets $33 profit no care about the consumer. read more

wow... I kinda felt obligated to use these folks having gotten gas there about a hundred times over the years. it all started with a question, what does that sound like to you? I said. the next thing I knew, I had a 425.00 bill for some replacement light bulbs and diagnosis (not repair) on some motor. I had to pay for the 2hrs of labor they told me. Come to find out it was a warn bearing that the manufactures warrantee covered and I wasted my money.... or at least 300 of it. Ahhhg! read more

My go to spot in Chicagoland area for car care. I recommend driving from anywhere in the burbs or city to come here for your auto needs. Everyone is super nice from the counter service to the guys in the garage, who will come out to explain exactly what is going on with your car. We had a really bad experience at the chain oil changes - they should always be avoided - and head to BPS. read more

I am so happy with the service I received at breaking point shell. I took my car in for breaks in the morning, and one of their employees dropped me off at home. Once the breaks were complete they picked me up and I had my car later that afternoon. I felt the service was great and the price was fair. It's also nice to deal with someone local. read more
