This place rules but parking sucks. It opens relatively late, has wifi and offers shaved snow plus milk tea. They shake their milk tea for you on the spot in a cocktail shaker rather than pump in syrup into a cup. Their milk tea therefore has a frothier texture and a better flavor (no lingering unmixed syrup sinking to the bottom of your cup). They also have macarons, cake and napoleons which I have yet to try. I'll probably never try the macarons because they cost over a dollar each. I have tried their taro milk tea, pineapple green tea, blueberry milk tea, the osmanthus jasmine milk tea, & regular jasmine. The taro doesn't taste like the vanilla purple stuff that you get at Quickly's. It tastes less sweet and therefore better. Their non milkteas (just regular tea) are opaque for some reason (perhaps due to heavy shaking). I really love the osmanthus. There are chunks of it at the bottom of their drink. Regular jasmine is bomb.com. I just love the flavor & the fact that it isn't too sweet. You can REALLY taste the jasmine tea. The flavor isn't drowned out by milk/cream/sugar. They also recently just changed their regular cups to tub like wide cups for a more trendy appeal. I feel like I get more bang for my buck with the new cups. Boba and shaved snow! Two of my favorite desserts! Okay, never mind I love all desserts. But this place is cool! They have quite a few boba flavors that I haven't seen before.. and I've been to a LOT of boba places. The menu for freshly made snow has 8 combos of shaved snow, fruits, and toppings. I'm not sure if you can just customize your own, but many of their combos sounded pretty yummy. We were about to eat dinner, so we didn't get one...next time! The menu for drinks includes teas, milk teas, slushies, and coffee drinks. A lot of unique flavors.. white peach, kumquat, rose tea, fresh milk... But I had to go for the yogurt black tea. Normally I really dislike yogurt boba drinks... but this one was labeled on the menu as "Yogurt (Yakult)." I love those little Yakult drinks!! So it must be even better in a bigger cup! The answer is yes. It was yummy! I also like that they don't fill up 3/4 of your cup with ice. Their prices are super reasonable for the size cup that you get, compared to most boba shops. They do offer toppings at this place too, but they're shown in little sample cups on the counter, with no labels on them. They should at least list them up top with the rest of the menu, because if you're in a long line, it'll help to decide that ahead of time instead of waiting to decide once you get to the counter. They also serve a few snacks, like fries and wings, and some desserts in a fridge case next to the counter, like cake pops and macarons. Ah, my friend wasn't kidding when she said that this place is one of the decent boba places in San Jose. My friends and I came here for a boba fix and originally we were thinking of going to Thirst Tea, but my best friend suggested Amor so we went here instead. I'm not sure about the parking situation here since my friends and I walked here, but there were some spots right on the street. The inside is a decent size with about 4 tables and some high chairs. The menu isn't cluttered so it's easy to find something you want and they even offer snacks which was awesome. Prices are decent and don't really put a dent in your wallet. Bathroom is located down the hallway to your right and there is a key you need to get from the worker in order to use it. I got their white peach black milk tea with tapioca and it was okay. Not sweet enough in my opinion, but decent. Their garlic fries were pretty good too with their homemade sauce. Kind of bummed that I didn't get to try their chicken nibblers so hopefully I'll come back here soon to try. And one of my friends had their macarons, but he said they were only okay. Making my way downtown...to Breaktime? I guess the owner changed the store name from the beloved Amor Cafe to Break time.. Since they were having a spring break special (all tea drinks $2.99), I decided to get a roasted oolong with sea salt cream with 50% less sugar. The drink was definitely too sweet for my taste still, it's like they left it at 100% sweetness :( Also, I asked for a roasted oolong tea, but they gave me a roasted oolong milk tea with added sea cream on top so it was way too creamy. It took awhile for them to make so I didn't borrow asking for a re-do. Also ordered a LARGE chicken nibber ($7.99). I remember the sizing from Amor for their large was pretty decent and enough for two people, but what I got today was disappointing. I got just maybe 9-10 small strips? It was still crunchy and good, but barely lasted me 5 minutes. Food portions have downgraded. Overall, customer service was okay. I don't recommend the snow ice here for two reasons: - The green tea flavor was bad. - They serve it in large paper cup containers; I prefer the version at Sno-Zen in Mountain view (not the San Jose location), where they serve it on a flat dish, so you can more easily lift off layers of snow with a fork. Ever since Barcode closed, I've been looking for a good pearl tea place near my house. This place came highly recommended by Yelpers so I decided to swing by on my latest trip to La Vic's. Rating Breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste -- My greatest pet peeve is milk teas that taste watered down or artificial and Amor offers none of those things. The classic black milk tea actually tasted like tea. Not too sweet, just the way I like it. With my friends, I've also tried the white peach, peach, coconut and lychee teas. Those tasted like a little bit like potpourri to me, but you do you, I guess. My friends loved them. The pearls are Q -- just the right amount of chewy greatness and still delicious after you store your drink in the fridge overnight. The shaved ice here is amazing too. I had the Thai Tea shaved ice and substituted the chocolate drizzle for condensed milk...YUMMA. Every flavor is worth trying. 0/1 Stars for Value -- I'm Taiwanese, and I know prices in the US will never come close to the Motherland, but damn, $4 (and add 50 cents per topping) for a cup? I can buy a pint of Haagen-Daaz for that money. The regular cup size is pretty big though and the quality of these drinks/desserts make this in OK sometime food. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- The baristas here are super nice and accommodating. Pretty solid bubble tea joint right in the heart of DT SJ! Also right next to a major Amazon pick up store and next to SJSU. We stopped by here right after checking out an event at the convention center and was craving some boba so we scoured Yelp and decided on Breaktime Tea. I'm glad we did! It wasn't terribly busy and they were quick to help us. They have a large variety of flavors (black, green, oolong, variations, etc) as well as different boba/pop and your standard levels of sweet and ice. I got the Jasmine Green Milk Tea with bubbles (no added sugar, less ice) and my bf got the Taro Green Milk tea with bubbles (same, no added sugar, less ice). I've been drinking boba with no added sugar for quite some time since the bubbles are typically sweetened prior anyway. It was definitely a good call on the Taro Green. The Jasmine Green seemed a little over steeped but still enjoyable. I kept finding myself going back to the Taro Green. It didn't sound like a winning combination but it really was! They also got some snacks here. When we walked in, there was no one but after awhile, some college students came in and ordered popcorn chicken and fries... man the smell of fried food really gets you hungry. One of my favorite if not favorite milk tea place downtown. Although I admit I haven't tried that many boba shops as one could, I like this one. Nice location near the library so nice memories bringing friends here. I like their drinks selection and when there was sit-down it was cozy inside. I am somewhat disappointed with the new ownership. I knew something was different when I came in to get my usual tiger milk tea and it tasted different. Next thing I saw was my receipt and they have recently changed their name to BreakTime. This confirmed the question or thought that I had. I thought, even though it's a new ownership, it shouldn't stop me from going to get tea at one of my favorite places nearby SJSU. I thought to give it more chances. My friends and I were hungry and we stopped by to get a snack. We ordered a large order of chicken nibblers, and discovered that they have extremely downsize, as it can be seen in the picture. If that is a large, imagine what the small would be like. The large used to be about the size of a meal box. It is disappointing to pay $8 for what we did not expect. We are definitely not coming back here for their snacks, but we might continue coming here for their tea. If anyone is still interested, the original owner still an Amor at Oakridge mall. They should also stopped serving their drinks or bags using amor's cup/bags. This could possible tuning their reputation. Two stars 'cause the employee/worker are nice and accommodating, but we are just disappointed with the downsize in the snacks/food and the inconsistent taste on the drinks. read more

Daughter and friends liked the tea here a lot and they are serious boba fans. They run on boba! Anyhow, the kids like all the different bobas teas because well, it's not fun unless everyone tries what the other ordered and shake their heads in serious agreement that it's super yummy!!! "This tea is so tasty!" Uh huh, to be young and happy and carefree enough about diabetes and diet restrictions to just guzzle those giant cuppa sugar laden teas. For my daughter though, the tea is good when it's made just right so there's no guess work as to how much she should ask for in sweetness! This is the first time that I have written a review of this place. The good thing is the menu, which features many types of milk teas, iced milk drinks, slushes, and fluffy snow. On the other hand, the bad thing has to do with their topping bar. You are told to fill up any and all toppings you want (lychee popping boba, mochi, blueberry mochi, lime wedges, etc.). But, you get dinged easily, if you help yourself to filling up from the topping bar. In my case, I went for their largest cup and was charged $5.75. Yes, $5.75! Outrageous. Not cool. I think that I will come here after 6 PM, when all toppings are free. It's way better than being charged 50 cents, which is what every place charges for toppings. read more

Loved this place! It's super easy to find and there's actually plenty of parking around. My friend and I went on a Monday night a little bit before they closed. The tea was AMAZING. I had curly fries and my friend had popcorn chicken - both snacks perfectly delicious! The interior is really cute and unique and the employees were nice. I'm not sure if their music choice stays the same or maybe varies by employee but the music they had that night didn't necessarily match the rest of the place - it wasn't horrible but felt like I should have been at a night club instead of a milk tea cafe. I took my boys with me to this tea place on a kind of quiet Sunday afternoon. One of my sons ordered a strawberry milk tea and the other one a honeydew milk tea. They were extremely tasty! I love that there is fresh fruit in each drink. Definitely also try the mango Mojito. The service was fast and the cashier was very friendly. On the hunt for a Poke and Boba spot near school and this place came up on my Yelp search. I was super excited, as the sign outside says they sell Poke. However, once I came in, there was no sign of any Poke. I had even asked the workers and they said they haven't sold or made Poke in over 6 months. So, that was quite disappointing - especially since the signs outside still says "Poke." However, they do have some "bowls" that are like the cooked version of poke, but with cooked chicken. Never the less, I tried out the Boba and tea here, it was pretty good. The smoothies here are kind of a hit or miss. They either taste like powder or are perfectly blended. I guess it just depends on who makes your drink. You would think being in downtown, that this placed would be full of customers, especially since it's on the next block from SJSU's library, but I have yet to see it busy - let alone packed. They have a reward program, so that's a good incentive to get customers coming back. It's a quick and easy spot if you're looking to fill your sweet tooth. However, if you want something more, I'd go else where. Also, if you want lychee jelly, make sure the worker repeats it back to you. I said lychee jelly once and received lychee bits - not what I was expecting, but that's my fault for not asking the cashier to read me back my order. read more

The owner, Lisa, was the one who took our orders and made our drinks. She told us that she makes fresh batches of tea every day and the taste is evident from the drinks! I don't get that nasty powder build-up on my tongue like I do when I drink Quickly or Verde. The place is very small like the menu selection, but the quality is great. I'm definitely going to be a regular here since it's close to the library. I have yet to try the sandwiches here. Update: They now will give you an extra "stamp' on your loyalty card. if you check in on Facebook or like them on Facebook. Unlike most loyalty cards to boba places, you need to buy about 10 drinks before you get a "free" one. There's is only 5 drinks, but you only get $2.50 off. Although its not "free" it's within reason since most of their drinks are close to $3 anyway. The place has shuffled around their interior and menu over the couple years. Their drinks used to be very strong in tea flavor and now I don't notice it as much. The drinks are still decent however. The popcorn chicken is awesome and their sauce compliments it very well. A couple months ago, they had to copy my card once because their machine was down but they made up for it by giving me free milk tea with my chicken purchase. Breaktime Tea is one of the best "hidden gems" in dt sj. I say hidden because every single person I've inviting to come along to a trip there doesn't know what I'm talking about. As a student from SJSU, breaktime is a hidden, but amazing boba shop. The environment is unlike any other boba shop nearby, with vined on the wall, great music, and an extremely friendly and helpful crew. I get something different every time, with the strawberry mojito, Matcha lemon tea, and mango peach strawberry smoothie being my favorites. As for food, it is quite similar to another boba shop down the road. They serve foods like gyoza and popcorn chicken, but they also have meals here like the teriyaki salmon on rice. The only thing I havent seen here yet is all the seating inside and outside the store. I'm a new-ish customer to this place, of about a few months, so I only know the way breaktime looked like pre-pandemic from pictures and past reviews. I started coming back to amor after taking a 4 month break and I forgot how much I liked their teas! I usually go with brown sugar (okinawa) milk tea with lychee jelly. I also get the chicken nibblers over rice if I'm craving a snack after class. Drink tasted creamy and had the perfect amount of sweetness! Hands down my favorite drink to get in downtown SJ. Their honey boba has generally been consistent for me, but there can be times when it can get a bit mushy (rarely happens). It's never been that big of a deal though! Very tasty and flavorful. Just a reminder that they don't use the 5 stamp $2.50 off cards anymore, it's now a 10 stamp free drink system that's done on their cashier. They also changed their store name to Breaktime Cafe recently and underwent an aesthetic change to look more modern and wooden (love it!).
