Best place for milk tea around SJSU. I come from a land of milk tea and boba (aka. cupertino) so, I know good milk tea when I taste it. Their tea is brewed pretty strong, making their drinks heavier in flavor. I love my milk tea to be strong and not too sweet. Amor makes their drinks a bit on the sweeter side in my opinion, but the heavy tea flavor helps balance it out. I make a trip here at least once a week to either study or get milk tea. I came here recently to grab iced tea when I was around in the neighborhood. Ordered milk honey tea with boba. Service was fast and the waitresses are very courteous and friendly. The tea was just way too sweet, it was like drinking sugar water with a bulkload of sugar added. Didn't really enjoy my drink. They carry a few goodies that looked enticing. Was passing through with a friend and out of nowhere we ended up at Amor Cafe and Tea for some Boba. Its a cute place to go to, but very inconvenient.. Its in the middle of downtown San Jose so of course there was no parking. we had to circle around a few times just to get a spot. The workers are really nice and they have a decent selection. my friend and I decided to get their Snow Cream. I Order the Thai Tiger Snow cream. It was a huge portion! and it was pretty good. it was basically Thai Tea mixed in with ice and cream with mochi balls. But it was worth it! My friend and I were visiting from LA and wanted to get some dessert/boba and I looked this place up. I wasn't really expecting it to be amazing because I guess I'm spoiled from Taiwan & LA boba but when I tried the classic milk tea my friend got, it was SOO good. It wasn't like normal milk tea--it was very creamy and had a slight nice floral taste to it. I was so impressed and to be honest, I think it beats a LOT of boba in LA also! Finally a decent tapioca place within walking distance from my apartment. This is another addition to the many tapioca places around DTSJ. If I ever need my tapioca fix, I can always go to Quickly, Hydration, Fusion and now Amor Cafe and Tea. However, unlike said locations, Amor's milkteas actually taste like tea. It's almost comparable to Tpumps in San Mateo or Verde in Cupertino, almost ..but not quite. For its price, it's not that bad. It's anywhere from $2.50 to $3.25 for a milktea and just $0.25 more if you want tapioca in it. For the same price elsewhere in SJ, you can get a cup of powdered milktea but at Amor, you get the real thing...as in they use actual tea leaves to make your beverage. They currently have a promotion going on where you can get a free black milk tea with the purchase of any beverage, if I'm not mistaken. So for $2.50 or so you can pretty much get two drinks, making it both the cheapest and best tasting milktea around campus. To top it all off, there's also free wifi, making it a hotspot for both regulars and students alike. Definitely would not be surprised if this became my new study/hang out/go-to spot for the rest of my time at SJSU. read more

I came here yesterday as a post interview treat/see my cousin and her spouse in dt San Jose. The cafe was pretty full of sjsu students but there was some counter seating and a few tables outside. It was clean and simply decorated place with plenty of fun personalities inside. I wish I had known there was free parking behind, but there is a Safeway about a block away that will validate your parking ticket. Though the sweet cake pops and macaroons were tempting us, the three of is decided to go with boba drinks. My cousin ordered the regular milk boba, her SO the taro milk boba and I ordered the rose and Jasmine boba. I know it must sound weird to have two flowers mixed in a drink but I really like Rose flavoring in Boba drinks and jasmine tea has enough of mild flavor to allow accompaniments. The serving size is huge, which was good because it was more expensive than other cafés I've been to. I liked my Boba but I wish it had a bit more of the Rose flavor in it. I think the flavors in general tend to be a bit milder bc my cousins spouse said his Taro wasn't too strong either. The good thing was that it wasn't too sugary like some cafés can be. They didn't try and cheat you by filling half their cup with ice either. I think next time for Boba in Downtown San Jose ill head to my all time favorite-quicklys, The sticker outside said "people love us on yelp" but I can only give it a like. Amor is going to turn into my home away from home. I am a mother of two and a student at SJSU and whenever I need a little pick-me-up, this is where I go. Lisa and her husband are so incredibly kind. The staff is wonderful and they work very well together. I have been going to Amor ever since it opened and I was introduced to the staff and have not stop going since. The milk teas are wonderful and brewed from leaves. The snow ice is light and refreshing on a hot summer day. And the cheesecake is just so incredibly light!! I don't feel so guilty after eating a slice. My daughter also loves when Lisa has her kids around because they are so much fun to play with. This is not a real coffee shop so I was not expecting a lot as soon as I walked in since I was ordering coffee. However, they did have lattes on the menu so I ordered two. The experience was disappointing, just poor customer service all around. 1) I asked about sweeteners and asked if they had honey. Ended up getting charged for it when all other coffee shops I've been to include this for free. Cashier never mentioned there was a charge or asked if this was ok which was the bigger issue. I obviously had not ordered there before. 2) Neither the cashier nor the woman manager understood or wanted to take my order for a matcha latte with a shot of espresso. I have ordered this with absolutely no problem at other coffee shops. I've ordered even more specific versions like "a nonfat soy matcha latte with an extra shot of espresso" no problem elsewhere. However, here neither the cashier nor the manager knew how to put the order in and the manager took her frustration out on me. Even after I explained I understood that matcha was tea but I wanted extra caffeine in it with espresso she had the nerve to say I don't understand what I'm ordering. Just a bad attitude and cashier was hopeless. They made a big deal out of nothing and made the ordering process longer and more difficult than it had to be. 3) Again, the cashier never told me how much an extra shot of espresso was to add to a drink. I was walking by and saw a sign outside that said they have Snow Ice. And not the shaved ice stuff, real Snow Ice! The price is a little high ($6.5 w/ tax) but you get a BIG portion; enough to share. Service is really good! I asked to try the Thaiger Milk Tea but instead got a sample of the Thai Ice Tea and some boba. As a result, I got a Thai Ice Tea without realizing it until I finished about 1/5 of it. I took it back to the cashiers and asked whether I got a Thai or a Thaiger, and one cashier explained to me that Thaiger is just Thai plus black milk tea to make it less sweet. He also poured some milk tea to the top for me, and even asked if I wanted more boba (I'm not greedy, I said no :p). First off, I had asked for less pearls in my boba, she basically forgot, and my order had about the same amount as my friend's boba. Secondly, the wifi broke down when I had intended to work here for a couple hours. A guy went up to ask about it, the manager just said that she had been having problems with AT&T. He got me a milk tea and to my surprise, I actually thought it was good! There are very few places in the Bay Area that have quality milk tea (compared to LA) and this place is one of them. Black Sugar Milk Tea! Delicious. Generally speaking, their milk teas are really good. Good balance of sweetness, flavor and tea. I got lychee toppings so I don't kno how their boba is. The lychee was good though, great way to get some solid texture into your drink without the starchy thickness feel of boba. I also tried the Rose Jasmine milk tea which was also nice and had a fragrant taste. It's very clean inside as well. SJSU students are so lucky to have this place so close to campus. Kid friendly, even if yours is as wild as mine. I loved the ambiance because of the decor. I really like the natural tea pearl drinks. I ordered the honey jasmine and will order it again! In terms of best milk tea place close to SJSU, I'd have to say Amor is the best around campus. Their boba is chewy but not to the point where your jaws will cramp up; it's just right. The atmosphere is also favorable for people who want to study...they have ambient lighting and unless a huge group rolls by the noise level is minimal. One thing that gave this place 4 stars from 5 is the quality of the milk tea. A year after they opened, I noticed that their milk tea would sometimes not have as much of a flavor as before. She got a Jasmine milk tea and said it was pretty watered down. I had a taste just to be sure and she was right. March - My friend got me a Thai milk tea and it was good enough that it tasted like Thai milk tea but a whee bit watered down. It wasn't like the Thai milk tea I first tasted when they first opened. Always wanted to try here and succeed the second time. First time I came here, I didn't realize they don't open till 11AM. Thought it seemed kind of late or maybe that was just my friend and I. Lol. Finally, my friend and I tried this place out for the first time and we loved it. My friend ordered a Honey Jasmine Milk Green Tea, while I ordered the same thing except minus the milk, so just Honey Jasmine Green Tea. Let me tell you, it was so good. The taste reminded us of those sugar cane juice drinks as kids that you get at Asian supermarkets long ago. The one with milk just gave the drink a "smooth" texture. Hahaha. Been going here for the past couple years since SJSU is around the corner, so I guess you can call me a regular. Friendly staff that work quick, and I mean QUICK. I literally get my drink in about 30 seconds or less. I usually grab a regular tea or regular milk tea so it may depend on the drink you get, but generally it is quick service. As far as taste goes, it is definitely in my top list. For the milk teas, it has a good blend of frothy and sweet, so it's not overbearingly thick and creamy. It would definitely satisfy the sweeter tooth customer, but you could always customize it to your liking, of course. They recently started to have coffee shop activities like game night and open mic night, so its a nice spot to chill on a week night if you are a student or wanting to do something downtown. As for a study spot, it works for me. For others, maybe not so much because it is a lot tight than other places (their couch is literally 2 feet away from the next table) and much more noisier because of the tight space. 4.7 stars, go for expansion, Amor.
