I had two extra keys made, warning them that the one key I had was the only key. I got home to find that they had ruined the original key and so I now had no keys that worked. They tried to tell me that the lock itself had failed. However, I subsequently found another old key that proved it wasn't the lock that failed. It was the keys that failed. They were extremely unhelpful and brusque. Borderline rude. I'm locked out of my place with no phone and it was like pulling teeth to get them to lend me a phone to call 911. (The fire department was absolutely wonderful.) They didn't refund the cost of the bad keys. It's a really awful place to deal with. read more

Hi there, I had occasion to be on the Cape and had a tricky DIY issue that was not straightforward. Jim (the proprietor) was actually in the middle of something else in his office, when I poked my head in to ask for help. He politely told me he had to finish an order and would be with me in a couple of minutes. He then took about 15 minutes of his time to understand what I was trying to fix, to look up some potential solutions on the web and to suggest options (one of which just worked out fine, thank you Jim) and all done in great humour. Thank you so much for your help and professionalism Jim. Just for contrast, I went to Baskins Ace hardware in Harwich Port (a few miles away) the day before and they was met with impatience and no inclination to help. In fact they had asked me to go find the prices for one of their products (screws, all in small boxes, all priced differently, none marked clearly/obviously), and when I said I had no idea where that price might be found, could they help me I was told "well we're busy". I insisted so they helped. I clearly didn't go back. read more

I'm floored. I just went in to the True Value near Ocean Edge in Brewster with an old Kingsley Bate chair that I had been dreading the process of fixing and asked what kind of screws etc I'd need. The young man behind the counter was kind and funny. He went to find all the things I needed and fixed it on the spot! I didn't think that kind of customer service happened any more. Avoid the big box stores and go here! Jim and the boys are always cheerful and helpful. They have most things a big box store has and there prices are competitive. I am here in Brewster because my 92 year old is not feeling well. The other day she needed a fan. She was having a difficult time breathing. I hurried out to find one on a late Saturday afternoon. I drove up to this hard ware store. They were closed but a man was sitting in his car. He saw the desperation in my eyes and through our car windows he asked what I was looking for. I told him. He said: 'sure, come in and we will get one for your mother.' I was blown away. He had already closed the store and set the alarm. We went back in and he helped me pick one out and he told me to come back if it didn't work. This man's name is Jim. He is awesome. He was willing to go out of his way to help my mother (and me!).
