This was my first time getting my hair cut and colored in many years. I came in with virgin hair and like most people, wanted something that either wasn't attainable or if it was done, would have caused pretty bad damage to my hair. I booked an appointment with Ana- she was an amazing stylist to work with!! She gave me a quick consult at the beginning and she told me what she was able to do and what she COULD do but didn't recommend due to the damage, upkeep, pricing, and time. She was super great to work with and was very transparent through the whole initial consult. Ana works FAST and she does wonders to your hair. I am so glad I trusted her professional judgment - she recommended more natural highlights which turned out better than I ever expected. I think I liked her result more than what I was initially going for! I love love love her work - not only color but cut, also! She is very keen and listens to client preferences and just a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended and beautiful work. I'm a very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. Ryan has cut my hair the last three times since 2021. He's super friendly and very quick. He also styles my hair at the end which is nice. My hair colorist even commented once asking who cuts my hair because she liked Ryan's work. I find his price very reasonable at $60 + tip for my long hair with layers. The salon is located amongst multiple other studios inside Sola Salon. I used to find the space a bit cramped especially when all three stylists were working on clients but it seems they remodeled recently to be a bit more spacious which is appreciated. I'd recommend Ryan if you're looking for a haircut. read more

As Lunar New Year approaches, I had to get my pre new year trim. Thanks to Yelp I found Brian Guy Studio 14 nearby and was able to schedule a same day appointment. They are a small business located in the Sola Salons. With small businesses I always like to confirm which forms of payment they take and they accept both credit card and cash. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived for my appointment and the staff was Vietnamese too. They knew exactly what I meant when I said I needed my pre new year trim! Also, while I was there another customer came in for their pre new year trim also. It's a big thing! So I got a Bang Trim and Conditioning Treatment so my hair can have that extra healthy shine ringing in the festive Lunar New Year. I am pretty particular with my bangs but I was in good hands with Brian. He executed my side swept bangs flawlessly and in general I can tell he has a really good eye for hair styles. Afterwards we went to the hair wash station and another auntie lady shampooed and massaged my hair. Then the conditioning treatment was applied and I sat under the salon hair dryer machine to let the treatment soak into my hair. While I was hanging out everyone from the staff was super friendly and hilarious. I observed Brian with his other customers too and he is definitely a sweet talker but very personable. If you like great haircuts and sweet talk; this place is for you! I'm feeling cute and ready for my Lunar New Year festivities. Thank you Brian and the team for the good laughs and positive vibes. I came to see Ana a few weeks ago and she did an amazing job on my hair! I came in for a balayage with virgin black hair and showed her a few reference pictures. I specifically mentioned that I wanted it to be as low maintenence and as natural as possible so that I could gradually ease myself into lighter hair. She was very patient and did such a great job! My highlights are very natural looking and I've gotten quite a few compliments already. Her prices are reasonable and the entire process took about 2 hours. I will definitely be back to see Ana in the future (and might actually try for blonde next time)! read more

I came in for the first time today, I have a overall good experience. They start with asking how you want your hair cut, washing your hair, drying it and then cutting it. I had Brian cut my hair, who was very quick and efficient in cutting my hair. Unfortunately I did ask for layers and but which I feel he didn't give me enough of. I feel like you need to be insistent and sure on the cut you want if you want it how you like it. You can tell he is extremely skilled and has a lot of experience though. I was in and out in less than an hour. Would definitely recommend, just try to be more confident with the style you want lol. EDIT 9/15: After some days, i have realized that he cut like one layer, it's like he took the top half of my hair and cut it like an inch higher than the bottom half of my hair. On a 1-10 Scale: Hairstyle = 10 | Service = 10 | Ambience = 5 | Value = 10 In Ten Words: Go here if you care more about hair than ambience. Notes: 1) The salon is a small suite in the corner of a building full of different salons. Look for the "SOLA SALONS" building located on the CVS pharmacy side of the large plaza (not the 99 Ranch side). There is plenty of free parking in front of the salon. HAIRSTYLE: I showed my stylist, Ana, a few photos of the hairstyle I wanted, and she was very knowledgeable and credible. I explained to her that I am very low maintenance with my hair, that I had increased greying hair that I wanted to conceal "naturally", and to do something about my grown out balayage. She gave me valuable input as to whether my hair would look good in the styles I showed her, and she was not pushy or opinionated about what style I should go with. I appreciated very much her judgment about what color and process would work for me, paying particular care to the long-term health of my hair. SERVICE: Ana was friendly, efficient, clean, and attentive with my hair. My scalp tends to be sensitive and it usually stings when dyes/bleached are applied, but I do not recall any/much discomfort during the semi-perm coloring process. AMBIANCE: This is not the kind of salon that would photograph well on Instagram. There is no vase of fresh flowers or other elements of nice decor. You will not be offered mimosas during your service or get any other "red carpet" treatment. Having said that, the salon is not filthy or anything like that; it's just not fancy schmancy. VALUE: I go to the hairstylist to get my hair cut and/or colored by someone who listens, who is knowledgeable, and who cares. I don't care if the salon is pretty; I just need it to be clean. I got everything I wanted during my visit with Ana, and her pricing was reasonable for the results (see before and after photos). I highly recommend Ana for your hair color and haircutting needs! read more

I cut my own hair like 9-10 inches off after having some bad luck. In some cultures, women cut off their own hair to change their luck. It was short and crooked so I Yelped around to find out where I can get a decent haircut without breaking the bank and near where I live. Brian was very nice and he did a good job. After moving to Irvine earlier this year I've been on the hunt for a new hairdresser local to the area. I found Brian Guy Studio 14 here on Yelp with nothing but glowing reviews - I was a bit hesistant as I previously had been going to the same person for a decade before I moved. I booked an appt with Ana after seeing some sample pictures of clients here on yelp and could not be happier. She was so friendly and easy to work with - I showed her photos of what I wanted--something to add more dimension back into my naturally black hair but not too crazy as well as a layered cut. She was quick and efficient and I loved the homey vibe of the studio. It's located in a huge building in Culver Plaza with probably hundreds of other service studios inside. I paid $90 for the haircut, plus a $10 tip, for a total of $100. For that price, I expected much better. My advice would be that if a stylist isn't confident they can achieve a requested haircut, it's better to be honest from the beginning. Customers will appreciate that honesty much more than leaving with a haircut they're unhappy with.

My family was introduced to Brian by a friend of our son. My son is very picky about who dies his hair and he was always not satisfied with his previous haircuts. On his first visit to Brian's studio, he was very satisfied and he said he found the perfect person to cut his hair. Since my son was satisfied with his haircut and it looked good on him, I decided to give Brian a chance as well. This was my very first time having a guy cut my hair but, it was not weird or anything and my wife liked my haircut. Next week, it was my wife's turn to get a trim and she was quite satisfied as well. Our family of three have found a perfect person to cut our hair. Another thing that really works for our family is that Brian is open on Sundays too. Since we operate a business from Monday to Saturday, it was really hard to squeeze in haircuts during the week. Brian is the MAN! I've been getting my haircut by him for over 10 years now. I know my brother and a couple friends that have also been going to Brian for just as long. The reason why we keep going back? Simple, Brian has always given great cuts and at a very decent price. He's also got a great attitude and welcoming spirit which makes new customers feel very at ease with him. I've never had problems with Brian ever...when it comes to what style I want my hair this time it's as simple as telling him a couple details of what I'm looking for and showing him a picture. From there he just works his magic with those scissors and turns whatever bird nest I came in with into his very own Sistine Chapel. This is my first review on Yelp even though I have been an avid Yelp user for years. That's how much this means to me. I went to 2 other hair stylists and spent over $300 each time to get my hair colored darker. Each time they only touched up my roots and highlights and did not address the change. I was told that I would have to come in for toning treatments several times and yet it would take 2 or 3 visits before they could get my color to where I wanted it to be. I found this salon on Yelp and had my skepticism when I first entered. It wasn't the fancy salons that I had been going to previously and I hoped they could deliver on their word. The entire treatment took under 2 hours (including cut) and it was exactly what I had hoped for. Gina did an amazing job with the color and cut and it was amazing! Brian has been my stylist for a few years. I followed him to two prior locations. Now he has his own salon and I could not be happier with the facility. It is cozy, clean and has all the amenities of large salons tucked thoughtfully in the smaller space. Brian is a wonderful stylist. I am amazed at his talent and skill with every aspect of hair cuts and color. He never asked what I wanted. He knew the right style and color combo for me. And the best part? You do not have to spend all day in salon, even if you are getting color or highlights. Brian manages to create his masterpieces quickly and efficiently. Wonderful results every time. Again, I have to come back this salon. I had an appointment at 4:30 with Ryan to do my hair, but I was too busy with work and came late. I called him if he can stay to do my hair because next week I have a vacation with my family. I don't want other people from other salon to do my hair. Ryan was happy waiting for me for an hour and a half, even though the salon was supposed to close at 4:00. I came late but he still greeted me with a big smile. Also, he recommended me to change my style a little bit by cutting my hair shorter. I couldn't say no to his advice because I believe in him that he will make me look much better. The length was perfect and there was nothing to complain. He was so hardworking and spent so much time to cut the length that I wanted. I've only recently started going to Brian but I can confidently echo all other sentiments on this review page. Brian provides a great haircut at an affordable price. I was paying double for the same quality elsewhere and Biran can do it in half the time. A simple men's cut in 15-20 minutes. On top of that, Brian is extremely personable and funny. No awkward pauses or conversations and he seems genuinely interested about the lives of his clients. I was referred by multiple sources and I'm glad I gave him a chance. I love seeing his salon busy all the time...and love that I can book my appointments on ScheduleCity.com. It makes it convenient. I always like to keep changing my look from season to season and year to year, and I can count on him giving me honest advice. Super fast! 7 mins hair cut.... but the best I've been going to (or following around) Brian for 8 years now - outside of my clear bias because of how long I've trusted him with a pair of scissors around my neck, this guy clearly knows what he's doing. He charges a lot less than what he should given his training - you'll realize his mastery once you step into his clean, well maintained store and trust him to do what he does best - make you look better than you did when you first walked in. She isn't one of those hair dressers that takes their own ideas and runs with them - she really listens to you. She is so talented and does amazing cuts and color. This is the first time Brian cut my hair, and I am extremely happy with his work. Since I moved to this area over 2 years ago, I have been trying to find a good hair stylist without success until now. Brian knew exactly what I wanted and needed. I have healthy, but thin and frizzy hair. He cut my hair neck length with a U-shape at the bottom and just a few layers closer to the bottom to add volume. This is how my hairstylist (back when I lived in another state) used to do my hair. Brian also gave me some pointers for easy hair care and daily styling. I am one very satisfied customer. Awesome hairdresser - well I only speak for one but the others always seem to make their clients walk away looking fabulous. Awesome décor, awesome products - they even offer you wine. Oh and their shampooing chairs even have a part for the legs to come out and recline fully. My hair dresser is Brian Vo. There was also a language barrier, so another employee had to come over to help communicate, but they still would not provide the round-brush blowout I asked for something I've had done without issue at many other salons. I ultimately had to walk out before they finished because I was concerned about further tangling and damage. Thankfully, they did not charge me, but it was still a very disappointing and stressful experience.
