Had a great breakfast at Brick and Mortar while in Albany. We arrived at about 8:30 on a Sunday and had no problems getting a table. I ordered a salted caramel latte and it was good- VERY sweet with lots of whipped cream. For food we got a biscuit sandwich and an omelette. Both were a TON of food, and honestly we probably could have shared, but we had leftovers for breakfast the next morning! The biscuit sandwich is delicious! 10/10 recommend. read more

On our way home to Canby from Eugene, we were looking for a good place to eat in the Albany area. Yelp community didn't let us down. We weren't sure if we wanted a late breakfast or lunch, so we chose Brick & Mortar. I'm so glad we did. Through the Yelp app, we used the directions, but it took us to the wrong place. We called the establishment and they informed us that we needed to use Google directions, which got us there with no issues. Upon arrival, there was a wait list of about thirty minutes. A good sign for me is people willing to wait for a good food. Eventually we got seated in a cozy booth. Breakfast is served all day. I chose the chicken fried steak, eggs over medium with hashbrowns. I told the server that if the chef went heavy on the sausage gravy, I wouldn't be disappointed. Boy did she come through, as you can see in the photo. Probably the best chicken fried steak I have ever had. No Sysco here! Diced onions in the hashbrowns were yummy. It wasn't served with any toast, but I didn't care as I could hardly finish it. I was so full after eating the dish that it was my only meal of the day. My wife had a cheeseburger and fries. She said her burger was good, but nothing special. I'm just glad I took the breakfast route. Our server was great and very attentive to us. I look forward to eating here again when in the area. Albany is lucky to have this great restaurant. One of the few places that have Chicken and Waffles *yay* No reservations on a weekend, we were prepared to wait 30-45 minutes as stated in many yelp reviews. Knowing ahead of time gave us time to prepare mentally for the wait. We arrived, put our name on the wait list and was given a 30-45 minutes wait time. They took down a cellphone number and text us when they were ready for us (~40min later). Our waitress was clearly overworked (Sunday afternoon). We waited quite a while (20min+) before I caught the attention of runner and told them that we were ready to order, but hadn't seen our waitress since being seated with menus. Once we were able to order, the food arrived in a timely manner (exactly as ordered). The food was good and the portions were a-ok for the price with the exception of the Chicken and Waffles. The "large portion" for $13 looked like a standard portion and left our college student surveying our plates just a few minutes later. Something odd: The water carafe was removed from our table once emptied, even though it was early into our meal. The water carafe never returned and we had to refill our water cups ourselves using the dispenser in the corner by the cash register on the top floor; no server in sight for the duration of our meal. In Summary: The food is fresh and delicious, standard portions and a locally owned restaurant. No reservations allowed, so be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes to be seated. I wouldn't come on a weekend if given the choice. A solid 3-stars for good food, but the waitstaff is spread too thin on a weekend resulting in sub-par service. read more

My sense of their aim is to introduce some inventiveness to common comfort foods for breakfast. There was a crowd of 12-15 people waiting for their doors to open at 8:00am. My wife had a veggie hash, I had a smoked salmon hash, and my daughter had the banana and strawberry crepe. The flavors are excellent and the servings are HUGE. Very comfortable environment and vibe. This place has really grown and it's food and service over the past couple of years. Very much still the hot breakfast place in downtown Albany or really in Albany, for that matter food is always consistent and outstanding, and the menu offers a wide variety of options suitable from the smallest appetites to the person who wants to get a couple of days worth of food in one meal :-) . Definitely meals are usually large enough to share if you have the lighter appetite and they seem to be pretty comfortable with splitting. Tried for the second time to eat here. We got on the list and were told it would be about 30 minutes. That's fine. They said they would text when we are up. After a bit I checked the text and was directed to an app that was tracking the list. I thought how clever ! It said we were #6 with 20 minutes remaining. 10 minutes later I check and we've been removed from the list. At the restaurant, they have a note saying if your entire party isn't present then you will not be seated, but as soon as the rest arrive, you will go to the top of the list. When I asked to be put back on the list at the top, the answer was no. Doesn't make sense. I didn't see the text because I was watching the app. We walked a block down the street and had a magnificent meal at Camille's. Won't be back. read more

Indeed this place is what it is cracked up to be. Classy little place with an inviting atmosphere and a very friendly staff. Couldn't decide between breakfast, lunch, or brunch. I ordered the breakfast platter with eggs over easy, potatoes, bacon and an English muffin. They messed up on the muffin by cutting it way off center, they brought me a replacement before I had the chance to say "no, this one is perfectly fine". All about customer service there for sure. We came in at about 1:45 on a Saturday. Waited a minute and got seated, servers were nice. Waited about 20 minutes for food, but they were busy. Had multiple servers and at one point were waiting on water refills. The mortar potatoes were amazing, and the chicken egg Benedict was pretty good. The sauce didn't have a huge flavor and the chicken a little chewy. We also got the "Nutella" pancakes but there was no Nutella, only chocolate sauce similar to Hershey. I liked the interior of Brick & Mortar! It was really cute and cozy. Our waiter was very nice but service was a little bit slow. As for the food, it was good but not wowing. Parts were great and parts were just fine. The biscuits are really good but so dense! Definitely need a drink to wash them down. The chicken on my husband's breakfast sandwich was SO good! I wish I had ordered something with chicken on it. The quinoa salad was good but it tasted like it was missing something. Worst service I've ever had. After the long wait, which we anticipated, was seated and waited almost 10 min for our server to take our order. She took orders from 2 tables that were seated after we were sat. Other tables that had their orders after us, were brought their coffee before mine. She brought my baked goods before my coffee arrived. Finally got my coffee, which was beautiful and delicious. While the other order at my table got her food, mine did not come. 15 min later, the server finally came to check on our table and admitted she forgot to include my order. We had been there 30 min before she checked on us and realized her mistake. Her tone with us was very matter of fact. She did discount our order, we boxed up the food items we had gotten and left. On our way out, she remarked, "so sorry I ruined your morning", which was very condescending. Additionally, as we were waiting, the barista was very rude to a child! As he was delivering a coffee order, the child was in his path, the mom moved the child and then he said very loudly, "EXCUSE ME!" Not a kind or gentle, "excuse me". I'd have been furious, if I was that child's mother. So disappointed! The food looked amazing, the coffee was great, but we won't be back. Service is just as important as food. read more

B&M has THE BEST country gravy. My whole family loves B&Ms entire menu, but we go there exclusively when anyone says "I want biscuits & gravy". They have several different brunch style options as well as yummy burgers, sandwiches and salads. The staff at B&M are always wonderful. You may have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it's definitely worth the wait. B&M is My Family's FAVORITE place for breakfast and brunch in the entire Salem-Albany area.
