Really cute atmosphere but the menu needs work! It's hand written which is cute but not all the ingredients are on each drink. For instance the smoothies don't have written that they also have agave in them, which might be bad for some people. It was also hard to read in a lot of places. One of the workers did say they are redoing the menu soon to be less confusing, so I'm guessing they've had complaints. I didn't get any food but my friends parfait looked good! Love Love Love this place! The coffee is from Intelligentsia and they have a wide assortment of teas. I love getting the green tea/sencha when I'm not getting coffee. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is the perfect place if you're meeting someone for a date or just need a quiet place to study. There is a reading room upstairs ideal for those that need solitude from the usual LA chatter. The patio area is also very spacious and lovely. Free wifi is a plus. The only con I have is that sometimes it's hard to get a seat inside since so many students also love coming here. read more

I had high hopes. I still have to rate them high even though there is one huge drawback.. I did a review of Lamill a few days ago and said I loved their espresso. That's why I have to give B&S 4 stars. They use Lamill espresso. And they are really the cheapest espresso out there. $1.96 for a double shot. They don't sell singles but I forgive them because their doubles are the price of most place's singles. The food is similar to what they carry at Sabor and around the same price. Parking is sparse but street parking at meters is fine for me. Two hour limit if you're watching for those nasty DOT criminals. I had a plain salad and asked for balsamic dressing. The salad was well priced and good but the dressing was so sweet it was like candy. They have a small upstairs if you truly want to hide but their main floor seating is big enough for 20+ people comfortably. Plus, most important to me... there is plenty of back to the wall seats if you don't want people reading your script over your shoulder. It's that old library feel with some comfy chairs, a couple you'll sink into and some bench seating. People tend to not talk loud because of that library feel and people who get phone calls walk out and are pretty respectful because of the library feel. Another HUGE plus is TONS of outlets for your laptop. They have no music playing in the background which is a plus for me. So you ask... Geee, why did you give it only 4 stars? I fought with myself on whether I should give it 3 stars. When few people are there the internet is almost but not quite acceptable but after lunch it got so slow I could barely check my email. The internet is DISMAL and horrible compared to Sabor and mind you, I just broke up with my coffee shop Sabor because of the hit or miss internet. At least with Sabor, when it works, it works okay but here, it's HORRIBLE all the time. I love the place so much I'm debating offering the guy monthly money to upgrade his internet. But if I do that, I may as well get internet at home. The only worse wifi is at Bon Vivant in Atwater Village. I will stay until I find a better coffee shop. Bricks and Scones is the whole package. Pretty much everything I want in a coffee shop. The ambiance is great: cute patio out front, lots of tables inside with good workspace. It feels cozy, like a library, or a college town coffeehouse. Plus, the staff is super friendly. Then there is the coffee and tea - a really nice selection plus the scones are really good and come serves on small wooden cutting boards. Wifi is available and there are even lamps at the tables upstairs. As soon as I walked in the door I knew this would be come my husband's go to place and I sent him there the next day - he now loves it too. You order your food and drinks up at the counter, then prepare to wait 10+ minutes to have your scone taken out of the case and your coffee poured. This is definitely a spot to come to if you are looking for a peaceful spot to get work done. The WiFi is satisfactory, working at a good speed (I started my work around 530pm on a Tuesday) and the tea and coffee selection is pretty extensive. The baked items look great and taste good. I ordered the hot peach tea and a choc-chip scone. The staff was friendly and the customers were engrossed in their work allowing me to type this review. And just when I would least expect it, they were playing some really old school freestyle music of the 80s! Definitely will come back here again to get work done. read more

Maybe the best coffee shop I have ever been to in life (and I have been searching far and wide). The espresso and coffee drinks are consistently delicious, and their baked goods are downright decadent. And always fresh. Downstairs, they have a ton of seating, and it is packed with people studying and chatting. The real gem is upstairs, the "library." It is completely silent, has slightly dimmer lighting and dark walls, and offers cushier seats. The space upstairs is more limited, but given the sound restrictions, you can often find a spot. What a great idea. I loved coming up here when I wanted to read or enjoy some isolation, it is the most peaceful coffee shop experience you are likely to find. After a hike to the Hollywood sign, wanted to try one of LA's many cafes. Located near a number of prominent studios, Bricks and Scones is a nice location with tonnes of diverse seating (outdoor, indoor downstairs, and indoor upstairs). Coffee was good...pour over for me given I normally just have regular coffee and this was the only option. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie...which was fairly average. Oh, I wish Bricks and Scones would open up in Sact'o. I spent about 6 hours at Bricks and Scones during a weekend trip to Los Angeles. The decor is warm and inviting. The downstairs area, where I was hanging out, got to be a bit loud when a large group came in. The couches were comfy and there were plenty of electric plugs. The wifi worked without a hitch. The outside patio, under a canopy of trees, was amazing. I love their bottomless iced tea for $5. Inside the main dining area, the light is like a personal den. There is plenty of seats and ample amount of outlets. There is a small upstairs area that is super duper cozy. I tried the Almond Milk Latte, pretty good and pretty strong. But quite pricey for such a small cup. As for the food I tried their turkey sandwich. I got the full sandwich (versus the half). It comes with a side salad of mixed greens, the dressing was delightful. It was just the right amount, lightly drizzled. I enjoyed this sandwich very much. There is a parking lot, but it is absolutely TINY. There's maybe a total of 7 spaces and to be honest, it was not easy to get in nor out. There's apparently street and meter parking. read more

Went here for breakfast on the way to a fun filled Saturday at work for OT. I liked the idea of having scones and clotted cream without doing tea time, essentially devaluing tea time and Americanizing it, yeah! I had the chocolate chip scone, iced green tea (Lupicia), red velvet cupcake, and a panini. I planned to make this my food supply for the whole day, not just breakfast for the record. Scone was decent, clotted cream left me wanting more. Tea was better than most, it tasted light and refreshing without the bitter aftertaste of most iced teas at the Bean or Sbux. I couldn't resist the red velvet after the guy at the counter said they make the cupcakes in house. I should have known they are called Bricks & Scones not Bricks, Scones, and Cupcakes. It was like a bad version of cake from a box. There was no saving that cupcake, sorry to say. Panini wasn't extraordinary. I suppose people come for the ambiance, it was rich in that. Seriously one of my favorite places to study/think/do random stuff on my computer/catch up with a friend when I'm back in town in LA. This place seems to plug me right back to the city I grew up in...in an odd sort of way. The outside patio is lovely on a nice day (and when is it NOT nice in LA?) and the sandwiches are a bit overpriced but very delicious! I love their Caprese sandwich. The tea + scone combo (do they still offer this?) has been one of my favorites. I first discovered this place through yelp. I came here to study and wanted to check it out since it looked so pretty. The outside is real garden like and inside seems like someones house. It's petite and cozy a great place to study and most people who come here come to study. Free WI-fi and they have a great menu. I had their scones, they were good but I had better. They have a great selection of teas and a little menu for salads and the best grilled PB&J sandwich. Awesome ambience for work and getting stuff done. They're great about letting you park yourself there for extended periods of time, lots of outlets and tables in their upstairs study. The coffee is consistently fresh and well prepared. My go to is a hot Latte, and the personal feeling of being served in unique mugs is a nice touch. Food wise, I tried to the curry chicken salad which was delicious and not too rich, which sometimes is an issue with curried dishes. Last time I was there, I had a solid cinnamon coffee cake; a little bit messy so don't eat if having coffee with an acquaintance but a good solo snack. Highly recommend! read more

Their scones are all good and their sesame roll is really unique and tasty. Wow wow wow. Absolutely, positively the coziest coffee and tea shop in LA. You can spend the entire day here studying with your books and computer out. It's super quaint and quiet inside. Some coffee shops (such as Starbucks, Coffee Bean) are loud and noisy. Well, Bricks and Scones is the opposite. It's extremely quiet inside because the majority of the people here come to study. So, in that aspect, if you're going to have an afternoon coffee or tea with your girlfriends, you might not want to come here (unless you sit outside on the patio). It's very, very quiet inside. The tea is lovely here. You can't really go wrong with ANY of the tea selections! Suggestion -- if you're going to stay there for a long time, get a pot of tea. It's a much better deal than just getting the cup of tea. You can get free refills of water in the tea pot! I love it. The scones are super delicious here, they make it from scratch! I personally like the blueberry scone (tastes better than the chocolate chip and almond). The red velvet cupcakes are also delicious and the corn muffin is a beauty! Love love love. read more

Most of the time I come here for a place to study because studying gets monotonous and sometimes you need a change of scenery to keep going. The selection of drinks and food was pretty big which is really nice when you have those all day type study sessions going on. That being said, I find the food and drinks by themselves a bit pricey for what you get. It's nothing amazing and I wouldn't go there specifically for the food or drinks. I look at the price in a way that factors in my staying there and using their wifi, so taking that into consideration I think it's reasonable. Beware, it can get pretty crowded, so if you intend to study here, get there before the crowd and have a backup in case it's full. The environmental noise level kind of depends on who else is there. If everyone else is working, it's usually pretty quiet. Overall, I would recommend the place. It has a nice cozy ambience and I like that they have more than just baked goods to eat (although I love scones!). read more

Still love this place. I thought I would be irritated with the drive and the arrival of no-seats, but it's quite chill on a Friday afternoon. Parking is hassle free when you park behind in the streets (it's 1 hr, but parking enforcement doesn't care when the entire street is empty. I watched them only go close to the cars that are parked front to back - kissing - the next street up). I considered parking in the lot, but so many people were yelling, asking if someone had parked in the lot because they had blocked the entrance. I'm not sure if that is worth the hassle. I got a MOMO Peach tea, which I was slightly disappointed in. It isn't B&S's fault - it's probably the brand. The peach flavour was lacking. Oh remember you have to add your own cream and sugar. The barista made the drink pretty quickly, which is to be expected since it's just a tea bag and hot water. Restrooms are unisex and fairly clean. It's a bit dim. One must knock because it's individual stalls but it's hard to tell if anyone is in there. Environment: - downstairs is for the chatty; larger tables - upstairs (Study) for the solitude; tables are relatively small and more for solo use if computers are present; overall space smaller than expected - once you walk in it feels like you're somewhere else. The pastries in the display case don't look appetizing (at least to me). The main cons is a combination of parking and finding a table. Interesting place! Food came in at about 3.5 stars, but ambiance and overall experience makes me round up to 4. I came here with a friend to have a casual dinner. For what it's worth, I like Larchmont as a neighborhood because in some ways, it seems like a getaway from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. This place, just a bit north of Beverly, fit right into the Larchmont scene. I got the breakfast burrito - note that breakfast is served all day - and also got the rose milk tea latte to drink. My friend got a sandwich and tomato soup. She really liked her sandwich, said the ingredients were very fresh, and thought the soup was extremely flavorful with rich herbs. I liked the take on my breakfast burrito, which was a bit healthier than I'm used to. Think spicy guacamole (not too spicy), lots of egg whites, some cheese, and other ingredients. It's not too big, but you do get a small(ish) side salad along with your meal. The rose milk tea latte was interesting. It tasted a bit airy, almost, but at the same time, it was kind of heavy because I suspect they used either creme or heavy milk. The rose flavor permeated the entire tea, so you have to be ready to expect the floral essence if you order it. I'm not quite sure I'd order it again, but that's likely a subjective call. Service: Friendly. They don't have wait service here, so you order at the counter, and your buzzer goes off when the food is ready.
