I was quoted a price to replace a leather seat insert; I got a bill for $85.00 over the quote with no explanation. The job was done well and it matches the rest of the car, however while doing the job some of the front of the seat cushion was damaged, so eventually I will have to get that fixed. But it will be anywhere but here. The rear flaps were not attached, I had to do that myself and a part of the side that was cracking is now completely cracked, why didn't he tell me it was going to damage the seat more than the repair? it took an extra day, On the way home I got a flat tire, at interior trim screw was in the rear tire. WOW best describes Bright Auto's work on my precious 2002 GMC Denali AWD AWS (All Wheel Steer) 1/2-ton truck. They installed OEM carpeting that I supplied, and believe me when I say I searched long and hard to find a problem with the installation that was done. The job was done perfectly, including the reinstallation of a driver-side seating panel I struggled to replace prior to the work they did. I had an unfortunate experience with Bright Automotive. My mistake, I did business on a handshake. I believed him. I hate that I was wrong. When I tried to have a conversation about the issues, Silence. I sent two letters requesting an adjustment to the cost since it was less than satisfactory and not complete. Because I had no work order in writing I had no recourse. I think Kyle came through with what they had quoted over the phone and e-mails but I really made the mistake of assuming items would be mimicked from the stock seats I shipped to them from Ohio. (Item one) I was not happy about was not having the perferated center area which I really wanted to go with for the OEM look I was trying to acheive. (Item two) we had spoke about getting the Z51 embroidered on the head rest which did not get done, Kyles excuse was the person he was talking with just kept giving him the run around so I said howmuch longer will it take to get them done and he said probobly another month or so after they had my seats for close to four months already. Yes when we innitially spoke he said they were super swamped and I would need to get inline which I agreed to no problem for me. I think they did an amazing job (item three) this is the one thing I really was bummed about was not having that brand new leather smell which I was dreaming of! Today I let my car sit in the sun to get the wrinckles to relax and when I opened the door the car had that musty old smell that kind of permiated throughout the cab of my C6, When Kyle and I spoke he gave me the impression that he was purchasing brand new leather from his supplier but it appears this leather may have been sitting in some warehouse for who knows how long, yes I am bummed and you know I would have purchased brand new seats if I could have located them the money was not an item, I just wanted perfection but I guess you live and learn! read more

I had a terrific experience at Bright, when something broke inside the driver's seat of my car, and it wouldn't stay upright. My regular mechanic referred me to Bright, and they asked me to bring it in to take a look. A bit of poking and prodding yielded a diagnosis of broken welds. They scheduled a day to bring it in, and the work was done by mid-afternoon, same day. They were also able to make a carpeting repair, taking care of a relatively small issue without turning it into a major replacement. The cost came in at almost exactly the amount of the original estimate. All in all, it was a perfect transaction, keeping my old car on the road with a minimum of fuss. read more

I did not have work done here. But i met with the owner and was scheduled to have some upholstery work done on the driver seat. In the interim, my car dealer said they would do the work for free because it shouldn't have failed so quickly on the low mileage vehicle. I called up bright auto a week before my appointment to let them know and they were grateful for the call. I mention this because in the times I've dealt with them from beginning to that final phone call, they were nothing but professional. And I got to see some work in the shop as well and they look like they really know this stuff also. So I will definitely go to them for the next project. read more

I took my 1959 Rambler for a headliner.It took three months to get it in the shop and four months to complete. The windshield had to be R and R to do the job . They had me contact a glass shop to do so.I had to buy a $360 seal after four months they called and said pick it up. They told me they couldnt wait for the glass guy so they put the glass in themselves. Along with two new roof dents and a stab in the front seat the windshield leaks. Abandon all hope, Ye who enter Bright Auto Upholstery. Got my rig back from Maaco, Bright Auto claimed they were five weeks out, two weeks longer than original estimate. Fine. No Problem. I schedule a day to drop off. I call on day of appointment. They're not ready for me. Check back later. No, we won't call you to let you know when to drop off. Also, we're only going to do the work that will make us the most money. Despite apparent centuries in the business, we can not add a single bit of value to your concept. That wouldn't pencil out for us. A month goes by, Mike insists I call every day to check in. Starts calling me kiddo. Doesn't answer phone during very generous lunch break, no way to leave a message. I feel I'm being groomed for a phenomenal screwing at some point in the distant future. Finally they have a spot to store my truck. For three weeks. No work done. This isn't rocket science. I am not a piggy bank to empty when you see fit. No springers for me this year, no turkeys either. Finally it is the aggravation of working with someone who can't estimate time or cost that causes me to spring my truck. Anyone in the business for more than a year should be able to provide cost and time estimates. Unless they are terrible at what they do. They did not do a single thing they said they would. By they I mean Mike. His employees were nice and professional. The ONLY thing Mike is an expert at is stringing customers along. No price or time up front? Get out of there, or grab your ankles and hold on for the ride of your life... Within two hours of springing my truck, I'm talking to upholsterer with much better concept (ABS headliner that will allow for sound deadener). I brought my seats in October of 2016 to get refurbished out of my 57 Belair. May of 2017 I started calling on how's the progress. That's when the song and dance started . He had more excuses than a bad politician. Then he says he got some material in & that he spent a week & half on my seats but they just didn't come right so he needed to order some more materials. Then he tells me had it on order but after 12 weeks of excuses I called his manufacturer and they said he was in a month ago with a sample but it would take 8 weeks for them to make it. So on October 4 th I went & asked for my seats back. The only thing that got done in a years time was he cut a chunk out of front seat for the sample . Do not take your car (new or old) to Bright Auto Upholstery, unless you want to go through the seven gates of hell. Here's my story of woe: On March 20, I took Blackie, my fully and beautifully restored '67 Volvo 122 Amazon to Bright Auto Upholstery on SE 6th to have the headliner and carpeting installed. They had done small jobs for me in the past and did pretty good work. The only downside is they're a bit on the pricey side, but I don't mind paying for good, honest work. Well, that all changed in the past few months. First off, they let Blackie sit there for a full week before they even touched the car. What pissed me off was that I was on a tight timeline in order to finish her up before the IPD 50 Years of Volvos in May, and told them this. They finally did the work after much of my nagging, and it only took them 2 days (even though they had the car for two weeks!). Bottom line: they could have managed that one better so I could have other shops do work on it too. Total price was $900 for both. Yes, very steep indeed! They were nice enough to drive Blackie up the street to the Line Up Shop for alignment. The Line Up Shop finished their work in a few hours, and I was summoned there to pick up the car. I get to the Line Up Shop and proceed to take her down to Yuri's place for final buffing, and discovered three dimples in an otherwise-perfect roof. Yes, that perfect paint job was now ruined. I call the manager of Bright Auto Upholstery (Mike), and ask him WTF??? He tells me, "Oh yeah, I was going to call you about that, but I got busy." Evidently, they put one of their new guys on the job, and while he was installing screws and brackets ??? to hold the headliner rods on, he either let the drill bit go too far and hit the outer sheet metal from the inside, or used screws that were too long. Long story short, they F'd up my beautiful paint job. Luckily Yuri was in the neighborhood, and stopped by to take a look at it. Yuri quotes me $600 to repair it, which would include metal repair, a complete reshoot of the roof, and color sanding/buffing. Mike says no problem, he'll pay it. Two weeks later, Yuri tells me it ended up being $800 due to the increased cost of paint and supplies, and way more labor than he first thought, thanks to the damage caused by Bright Auto Upholstery's "not so bright" employee. I pay Yuri his money, and go back to Mike from Bright Auto Upholstery to collect my $800. He calls Yuri a "shyster" and says he won't pay a dime. I try to explain that the $600 was just a quote, and sometimes stuff costs more, especially with body work and paint. He says no way, and wants to see a materials break down and hourly labor accounting. No problem... Yuri writes one up, and even includes the paint/materials cost list from Industrial Finishes. I give all this documentation to Mike, and he still says he won't pay it. I tell him that he needs to talk to Yuri, and give him the number. He never calls. But he does tell me I have to watch out for "those Russians" because "they'll try to take you for a ride every time". WTF dude??? How dare you say that! I've known Yuri for over a decade and he has NEVER taken advantage of people... if anything Mike, you're the damn shyster and you're trying to take me for a damn ride!!! Three weeks ago (if you're doing the math, that's 3 months I've been waiting for my money), I finally give up and tell Mike at Bright Auto Upholstery to pay me the $600 and I'll deal with Yuri for the other $200. He says no problem, takes my mailing address and says he'll send payment. Two weeks go by, still no check. Last week I call Mike again, and he says the check came back and he must have written the address wrong. Yeah right... he must have thought I just fell off the pineapple truck yesterday. I tell him I'll be right over to pick it up in person. I go there, and sure enough there it is. It sucks because on the way over I'm preparing myself for a big argument, possible incarceration due to me kicking Mike in the throat, and what happens...? he hands me the check. It looks legit, signed to me, for $600. All's well that ends well, right? Not so. Here's the tally: - Bodywork on what WAS a perfectly straight 122 roof - Respray on what WAS a PERFECT paint job (Yuri did an incredible job redoing the roof) - Numerous phone calls and in-person trips to Bright Auto Upholstery and Yuri's shop - Having to find another upholstery shop because I will NEVER, EVER, EVER take my cars there again, and will steer everyone I know away from them. And I highly recommend you don't take your business there either. Consider yourself warned. read more

My child found a small tear in my leather seat and proceeded to peel it like a banana. Figured it would cost an arm and a leg to repair it so I bought a cheap seat cover to hide the eyesore. After a year of sliding around in my driver seat, I asked the service guys at my dealership about how I could repair it. Several suggested Mike's shop. I emailed him and he got back to me quickly with an estimate. Arranged a day and time with no fuss. Got it back in a timely manner. Other plus is his shop is two blocks from public transportation so it was easy for me to get to work and back. Only hiccup is that when I left the airbag light started flashing. I called him and even though the shop was technically closed he answered and we made arrangement to reset it. read more

Bright is the best in town. Not cheap and they are busy. The owner has been doing it for many, many years. Have a tear in your seat? They can replace that panel of material, perfectly matched with the rest, and return your vehicle with a nice protective coating on both seats. I had an awful experience at this shop. I am not one to talk badly about a local business online but I feel a moral obligation to share this story: I brought my car into Bright because my convertible top was leaking. They kept it for several days just to diagnose it which was frustrating as I was paying for a rental but I understood they were busy. They told me they finally did diagnose the issue and that they had to order parts for the car which would also take several days to arrive. I picked my car up so that I could drive it while we were waiting for the parts to arrive. After leaving the shop, I realized that my car alarm was no longer working. I called and spoke to the owner and told him that the alarm was working when I brought it in but it is not working now. I asked him if perhaps one of his techs had disabled it while they were working on the car. He said no one touched my alarm and that they were not responsible for the fact it was not working. I calmly said, "It was working when I brought the car in and it was broken when I left so I can't help but feel you have some level of accountability in the situation." He told me if I felt that way I could "take my business someplace else" and then he hung up on me. read more

I contacted this place over 10 times for a quote/to schedule & every single time the guy said "I will call you by the end of the day with a quote" EVERY day for 5 days he told me this. NOT ONCE did he EVER bother to call me back or give me a quote. He also had me text him photos of my car seat & my VIN number but clearly had no intentions of doing anything for me. I am very very happy with how quickly and professionally my car seat was fixed. I had to bring my 2005 Mercedes in because there were 2 large tears in the driver's seat that had gotten very bad because I kept putting it off. Within 2 days they re-upholstered the seat, replaced all the torn material, and matched the other seat perfectly. They were also very friendly and polite. Not sure why this place has only two stars? It's an outrage I say! Mike is terrific and a genuinely sweet man. I came to him over three years ago with my Miata and its rapidly aging roof that an overly helpful friend tried to help me get latched only to rip the zipper out. Mike came out of his shop and got the roof up and that's the way it stayed until I could afford to fix it. A year or so later the window ambered to black and I visited again. He helpfully suggested some products I could use to restore it. And then finally in August 2013 a vandal put the poor thing out of it's misery with a nice slice to the top. Finally I made it back to Mike's to actually do paid work so I upgraded from vinyl to cloth and a glass back window and couldn't be happier. Thanks for being patient with me Mike! I had a 1999 miata soft top, I had bought the new top and taken the old one out except for 2 screws, I was in a bad place during a huge storm. I called them up off of a referral and they talked about how it was more complex then it seems and said they would call back. They didn't call back and I had to call them back then they claimed it would cost me $450 to get this work done... I did some research online, wen't to ace and picked up a swiss army knife to reach the screw i couldn't get to... 50 minutes later i had the new top on my car during a let up in the storm. Definitely would NOT recommend, they sound like huge price gougers and a little arrogant. Hope this helps someone save some money read more

I wanted to customize the sun visors for my van by covering them with some faux fur. The first upholstery shop I called pretty much blew me off saying the job couldn't be done because of the way the sun visors were made. Not to be discouraged, I called Bright and spoke with Mike. He said to bring them in so he could have a look. I took them in and Mike said as long as I didn't mind losing the mirrors (which I didn't), that he could do it no problem. I picked them up today and they are exactly what I hoped they would be! The guys at Bright didn't skimp on attention to detail or craftsmanship just because it was a small/simple job. They look better than the factory and even feel a little sturdier. These are going to look great in the van! A reminder of a great experience every time I reach to keep the sun out of my eyes. I'm not sure how other people have managed to get good work out of this place because I haven't. My headliner turned out good but they put my sunroof together wrong twice. They didn't even hook up the motor the first time so they sure as hell didn't test for proper operation before I picked it up. They said they would look into a leak as well and have failed to fix that twice. The back seat they recovered for me has also come apart twice. I waited five weeks for an appointment to get it fixed and they have had it now for three weeks. I came in today and asked about the car and I had to remind them which car was mine. They had totally forgotten the problem with the back seat which means they haven't touched my car yet. I've been friendly and patient the whole time because I have been a member of the car community for 25 years. It's clear these guys could care less about my car and it shows. I'm at the point where I'm going to pay another shop to fix the piss poor work. I'm not gonna give this guy another dime. You might get better work than me but I have about 2000 dollars that says you won't. read more

Mike and his crew completed replacing the leather on my Infiniti G35. I had been living (sadly, but temporarily.) The AZ climate is brutal on leather interiors. I went down to chat with Mike. I met all 3 of his fantastically entertaining canines. I proceeded through the work shop, rife with fantastic original classic cars in shop for interior work. I also saw and felt some of the finished work. Quality. Into Mike's office. His demeanor was casual, like an old friend. A friend who knows all about auto upholstery needs. He told me about what the work would entail. Time estimate. Dollar estimate. Reasonable. Hired. Mike and his entire crew did a fantastic job. The job was completed quickly even though they were swamped with work. The leather used is a huge upgrade from the original leather. The sewing and fit is as close to perfect as can be. The seats are even more comfortable than before as he rebuilds cushioning before upholstering. Aside from one slightly crooked section of front passenger seat's door side seam. It's barely noticeable to me and no one else would ever notice. So, I didn't mention it to Mike. Especially as it took me weeks to notice. I hate to even toss that into the review. But, really, nobody is perfect. Beside, I trust that if I had had a problem with it he would redo. Time estimate: nearly perfect. Cost estimate: spot on, but included a bonus prize from Bright! I had a plan to call three shops when I was considering this repair - Bright was the first on my list and after talking with them, I was sure that I did not need to make the other two calls - They got me in and out on time and the seat is like new! Whoa! I brought the two front seats from my Toyota 4-Runner to them for an estimate to recover in leather so that they would look new again. The guy quoted me $800.00. I asked if that was for both and he said no, that was each. I asked why so much and he started telling me that leather was $1/inch right now. Again I asked why. He said the petroleum products used in treating the leather was raising the cost. I pointed out the oil was less than $60/barrel right now. Needless to say I did not choose them to do the work. I took them to a competitor who is doing them for $600.00 for both. read more

I bought a new Robbins top for my Miata -- they're expensive enough that it seemed worth it to have someone knowledgeable do the installation, and everyone I asked recommended Bright. Good advice. Not especially inexpensive but then again not horrendous for price. and now 4 years later the top and all seals remain water-tight, the top still looks terrific (no wrinkles or puckers), and remains easy to raise and drop.
