Golden Almond Milk Latte
Karyn M.

"He who controls the spice controls the universe." - Dune The spice trade routes changed global world economies. Once a closely-guarded secret punishable by death, now spice is as easily accessible as opening the spice drawer. I've watched with interest as turmeric has been touted as a spice that has anti-inflammatory properties, aids in reducing cholesterol, helps mood, etc. I visited Love That Spice, a cute spice shop in downtown Highland Park. This is a friendly and welcoming space with premium spice and tea blends. I tried the Golden Milk Latte, which contains turmeric. They asked if I wanted to add a little honey but noooooo I had to deny myself and abstain. I regret it as I don't like the taste of turmeric. The staff was very helpful in answering my questions and preparing my drink. Next time I will have them add the honey. Love That Spice will help you to love that spice.

I love the Chai latte here. It's not too sweet and the flavor of chai is strong (but not overwhelming). The inside is peaceful and is the perfect place to enjoy your drink. There are many options on the menu that I look forward to trying. There's also retail area where you can buy spices and teas.

This spot is welcoming, and the owners are so kind! And the drinks - The Red Dragon Elixir, Superfruit Smoothie, and Triple Layer Strawberry Matcha were unique and delicious. Definitely returning!!

Lovely shop with a kind and very personable owner who will help you find what you need or the perfect remedy for what ails you! They also blend and serve a variety of natural teas in various flavors. I am more of a coffee girl so when they mentioned a Chai tea made with chicory (and oat milk, yum!) that tastes like coffee, I was sold. And after I tasted it, I was hooked! Healthy and delicious. I'm craving it just thinking about it now! The peanut butter protein balls we tried were a amazing also. I would drive to HP just for those! The owner Marlena's husband grinds the spices at night and everything is made in-house and fresh. The aroma when you walk in is amazing and the shop is laid out so nicely. They're happy to answer questions and definitely offer service with a smile. Marlena lived in my hometown for years and is now a close neighbor, and it shows. She's got that certain vibe and I'm so happy to have met her. If you're in the area and haven't been to Love That Spice, do check it out.

This place is great! The owner and staff are super friendly and very knowledgeable about their teas and spices. I was looking for a particular blend of tea for my diabetes. Judy was super helpful in telling me which blend they have. Marlena, the owner, bagged my tea for me. I loved how she wrote down what was in it and explained why the ingredients were in there. There are directions on the bag in how much to use and how long to steep the tea. I was afraid the tea would taste too earthy, but surprisingly it tasted very good. I think the cinnamon mellowed out the tea blend very well :). I think I just found my new tea and spice place!

Lovely spice/tea shop with super friendly staff. They asked what kind of teas I like and directed me towards good options. In love with the tumeric ginger lemonade! Tangy, spicy, refreshing, and delicious - will definitely be back for that. Protein balls were good as well, but be aware they contain peanuts. A little pricey, but don't be deterred by the price tags, the products are mixed and packaged in-house, and are worth the extra expense.

"Love" cannot be underestimated in this establishment. From the moment I entered the door, Marlena made me feel special and welcome. I quickly realized that everyone who entered the door was made to feel the same. Marlena has the best and freshest spices, too! Her knowledge of herbal wellness is unmatched. Don't miss this gem when visiting HP.

Great ambiance, great staff and service, and best chai I've ever had! I always stop here on my long walks through highland park.

Honestly, I thought that was just the standard for suburban grocery stores around here. I hadn't even heard of Sunset Foods until a TV commercial popped up the other night. Back in NY, I practically lived at Uncle Giuseppe's, and I've been majorly missing that high-end, Italian-market vibe. The commercial looked legit, so this past Saturday, I figured why not make the drive up to Highland Park and check it out. The second I pulled up, it just felt different. I got a super warm greeting walking in, but what really sold me was this guy outside grilling hot dogs right by the entrance. Honestly, just catching that smell in the weekend air instantly took me back to summers on Long Island. The store itself has a great vibe, really clean and upscale. I hit the cheese section first because the gourmet selection is massive. A really nice staff member saw me looking a bit overwhelmed and helped me pick out a few incredible cheeses. Then I hit the bakery and deli, totally overloading my basket with random finds, including a massive brownie that looked insane, and some awesome cured meats. But the real test was the meat and seafood counter. At Jewel, half the time the meat looks like it's turning brown under the plastic wrap. Sunset is the exact opposite. Everything looked fresh and bright. They were running a sale on salmon, and I picked up a filet that was delicious. Yeah, the register total was definitely higher than what I'd pay at Jewel, but the quality difference is night and day. You get what you pay for. So glad I found this place, it's the closest thing to home I've found yet.

The staff here was absolutely friendly but food-wise, I thought the selection was pretty minimal , Bare Bones and above all a bit overpriced which kind of disappointed my experience here. Overall, this place has a variety of many things from vegan options for my wife to a variety of cold drinks to go. Check out lines move by pretty fast as well. This place featured plenty of parking as well. Overall, I thought this was an average grocery store to check out.

Brian arrived promptly at 5:30pm as agreed, and over the ensuing five hours, he whipped up a wicked four course meal while we sat back and enjoyed the show. Blackened shrimp with Creole remoloude...finger lickin' good. Jumbo lump crab cake with spiced Dijon lemon vinaigrette...heavenly. Seared baby lamb chops with mascarpone mashed potatoes and rosemary butter cream sauce...saliva inducing. Dark chocolate molten cake with quad berry sauce and lemon vanilla whipped cream...it's so fluffy I'm gonna die! In addition to his ridiculously tasty food, Brian's personality is electric. Talking to a stranger for five hours in your home would normally be awkward, but not with Brian. He had us rolling on the floor laughing with stories from his crazy life and cooking for A-list actors and athletes. He was also very inclusive of us in his cooking...explaining what he was doing all along the way and asking us to taste this and that at each stage of the meal's preparation.
