I somehow managed to get in an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon (she only works with another assistant and has limited slots available) and I could not have been happier with my experience. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by name and Natalia's assistant went to work on filing and cleaning up my nails. After, I switched over to Natalia to do the actual polish/design. Originally, I had went in with the intention of getting chrome nails, but Natalia being the artist that she is, suggested against it because with normal wear and tear, it wouldn't look good because of natural chipping. SOOOO after having finished up her previous client and seeing the AMAZING job she did on her nails, I decided to go with her suggestion and do a rose gold magnetic nail look. She even asked if I was planning to have my gel manicure for 2 or 3 weeks so she knew what products to use for me. My mom saw my last manicure when it was 3 weeks old, and she seriously asked me why I had gotten a manicure that didn't start at the bottom of my nail. As in, the manicure still looked brand new, like it was just done yesterday, with no chipping, so she couldn't fathom the idea that it was old and had simply grown out over the course of weeks! LOL. Also, my nails feel healthier than ever. I've always had a problem with my nails breaking, so they could never grow out, but since Natalia got her hands on them, I actually haven't had a single broken nail (despite the fact my nails have been far longer than they have ever historically been). Considering the length of time her manicure/nail art lasts (and that your nails will be perfect and chip-free the whole time you have them) her pricing is absolutely fair. I found this on gilt city on a whim and decided to try her out before my trip to Japan (3 weeks long). Oh boy, am I glad I found her!! When I arrived, it was in an unassuming studio in a building. She worked by herself (I think she mentioned she had an assistant but I never met) and was very professional. If you are looking for a salon to give you a massage and lotion you up, look elsewhere.. her services are really just her meticulous nail art designs.. and honestly, she is just the best darn nail artist you'll find. She definitely cleans up your nails and files them etc. etc. She has a great array of polishes, but i've always chosen gel. She will discuss with you a nail design to fit your every desire - if you bring her a picture, it'll definitely be easier! The whole process took about an hour, but I couldnt be happier. There were moments when she did a design and was like I'm going to take this off because I am going to redo it better. She is a perfectionist and will make your look perfect! After nearly 4.5 years, today it is time to write a review for the one and only most talented nail artist I know. The woman who has created Brilleny has been a blessing in my life. Someone I discovered and called asking to make an appointment on her birthday without knowing and from my first appointment I was obsessed. Without me ever paying attention, Natalie was committed to having me grow out my real nails so I wouldn't need extensions all of the time. While my manicures can last up to 6 weeks, I keep them regular at 4.5. the nail art you see in the photos are Natalie's own designs and ideas. I never go into an appointment with specific requests, we just always see where the inspiration goes. She is incredible detail oriented. I found Natalia through Gilt City. What amazes me about her is that, she does EVERYTHING. From scheduling appointments, taking photographs of her work, maintaining her website, selling jewelry on top of that?! I mean...I have to give her mad props for that. Her studio (yes it's definitely closer to an art studio than a nail salon) is bright and full of light. Her decor is minimalist but chic - just like her and her designs. She took time with removing my nails, being careful not to damage my overly gel'd nails (I don't think my nails have been naked aka sans-gel for at least a year!). I've been meaning to write this review since I got my nails done by Natalia about a month ago but kept waiting until I had the time to do it (and her) justice:)! Three and 1/2 weeks plus later (!) I am STILL looking at my nails saying WOW. Just last week I went to the dentist and was complimented by the dental technician...their staying power and how long the manicure lasted has been unbelievable! Of course, gel has that reputation in general, but usually it cracks or warps or grows out in a weird way so that after two weeks you're sort of ready for an overhaul, no matter how great they looked on Day One. Not the case here. There are so many things to love about Natalia AND her studio: A) Her skill and artistry: executed with such precision, finery, enthusiasm and crazy amazing attention to detail, Natalia watches over your nails with aesthetic artistry, amazing creativity, and passion. B) The environment: something so homey, comfy, sophisticated yet REAL, her studio is a place (gasp--opposed to every other nail salon in the universe!) you not only want to be in, but look forward to re-visiting. Oh man! I wanted to love this place so badly. Natalia was great, accepted a same day appointment. She told me 1:00, when I got there she said she thought she said 1:30, no worries. I waited. There were two ladies ahead of me and both almost done so it was fine. Her assistant took off the gel I had on and broke my already broken nail further. She was so aggressive! Then she tried to cut my nail and boy did she! She cut my skin and my nail. Finger began bleeding. Then I chose a nail color and it turned out to be clumpy and streaky. The assistant kept painting and said nothing until finally I spoke up and said, this is terrible. What's going on with the paint job? She then said something to Natalia. When I realized Natalia wouldn't be doing my nails, I decided not to do anything fancy and just get a plain gel polish because I didn't trust her assistant to design well. Gel nail art has not caught on in D.C. so I made an appointment at Brilleny when I was visiting friends. Book an appointment because Natalia is the only technician and the space can only accommodate one customer at a time. I decided to go with baby blue gel with iridescent triangles after Natalia let me look through a book of her designs. We did a few mock designs so I could see in person how it looked on my nails. It's been ten days and my nails haven't chipped or started peeling on the sides. I paid $70 which included a design on each finger which I thought was very reasonable.
