WOW, just WOW! What happened to this place? I've come here many times in the past 20 years. Mostly for special occasions. This most recent visit was such a dramatic change from what I have remembered in the past. I ordered the Broadway cut sliced English style, rare. The cut came out to me in chunks. It looked like a 3 year old went to town on it with a knife. I have never had an English cut from any prime rib establishment come out in chunks. Usually sliced nice and thin, and laid out nicely on the plate. This was just slapped together and thrown on the plate with no presentation in mind at all. The meat was flavorless. The au jus was bland. The pop over was under cooked and mushy. Absolutely the worst prime rib I have ever had. My daughter's kids cut was perfect! Sliced nice and thin and came out medium rare. If you're looking for a prime rib fix but couldn't get a reservation to HOPR, this is a decent alternative. They have all the same sides as HOPR - an identical menu essentially. I got the peninsula cut with half corn half spinach. I ordered the baked potato but they sadly ran out and I had to settle for the garlic mashed potatoes. It was good though. Their complimentary bread basket is just okay - French bread with butter. I loved their salad! Very well dressed. Although they don't make it in front of you. Now I'm not sure what the hype was about. Everything seemed to go down hill the moment we were seated. I understand the holiday rush brings high volume, stress and disorganization but I do believe at least an attempt should be made to provide a warm guest experience. Ordering was quick. Too quick where I couldn't even get a breath in to order a drink. I had to ask for a drink menu and flag down our server who seemed visibly annoyed. Again I only managed to order one drink without providing my partners order. Again we have to flag them down. It seemed like all the heterosexual couples around were catered to and got what they needed. We were left without water for an hour. We had mistakes with our order and there seemed to be no thought about us. Fine because it's a holiday and it's busy? Not sure. It didn't feel good to be excluded. We had 4 verbal interactions with our server: order, drink #1, drink #2, food, check. Never a "how are things?" or "is there anything I can get for you?". We were able to walk in without a reservation for a party of 5 right at opening and get seated right away, which I really appreciated. They have dining room, bar, and outdoor seating. We were sitting towards the back of the dining room, I think there was some booths and some upstairs seating maybe too? The host was really nice and we got water and warm bread right away. The bread was light and soft on the outside with a light crust on the outside, and served with butter. Most of us got the biggest cut, the Broadway, with two select cuts. One select cut and one Broadway were sliced English style, which means instead of a steak, it's served carved thinly. After the salad, the meat is served with jus and your choice of sides. The salad is small but refreshing with a light creamy dressing, similar to thousand island, I like the beets. I selected for my sides the creamed corn and the baked potato. The potato is smaller than what you will get at HoPR, but it's also not dressed as richly. It's more preportionate to a side potato than and entree potato, which I appreciate. The cream corn is nice in that its corn kernals are still whole, instead of sort of pureed. It's nicely sweet and a little savory, but maybe too starchy. The prime rib was great! It was well seasoned without being overly salty. Here they sear and then bring the roast to temperature. Even though the rub cap looked 'done', the middle was medium rare, and the whole thing was pretty tender. The only thing was that the fat layer on mine didn't have a great texture, so I didn't eat it. They provide one little thing of mild and spicy horseradish for the table (really only enough for one person), but you can request more. They also have gravy on request. Oddly, my friend's gravy tasted burnt while mine was fine. They also give you one whole popover per person. This was crispy outside with eggy soft inside. I liked to dip it in the gravy between bites of meat. A much different experience from HoPR, more casual and quiet. Also not as theatrical. Recently, we came here to celebrate my niece's birthday. Having hearing about Broadway Prime has a similar option to the House of Prime Rib (HOPR), I've had it on my to-try list for a while. Since I don't frequent the Peninsula often, I was looking forward to this dinner. It's located on the busy Broadway Ave, we were able to find street parking a block away. The restaurant was fully on this Friday evening, but our table for 13 was ready on the second level for our 7pm reservations. The menu is pretty simple. It's dry aged prime rib served in four cuts, dry aged New York steaks in three cuts, a salmon and vegetarian option. But it's the prime rib that I was here for and I ordered the 12 oz Select Cut in medium rare. The entrée came with a potato side and a vegetable side, which I selected a baked potato with butter and 1/2 creamed corn and 1/2 creamed spinach. We were first served baskets of soft French bread with butter. First item was the plate of salad with a house-made dressing. It had pieces of beets and crumbled cheese with the romaine lettuce. The lettuce was not crisp. HOPR served the famous Spinning Salad table side. Next came the entrees. It was weird that the entrees were not brought and served from left to right or vice versa. Dishes came out four at a time and to people throughout the table. After the first four, there was a pause before the next four were served, a pause then the final five. No silver bullet cart here like HOPR. There, the cart would come to your table and everyone down the line would be served. I was in round two of service and people in the first two rounds had to wait for everyone to get their food before eating. I ordered my au jus on the side and it wasn't brought to me until the third round of entrée delivery. My Prime rib was very tender, comparable to HOPR. The baked potato was a little undercooked, hence it was not fluffy. Cream corn and spinach could have been creamier. The popover was not airy and they were on the bready/dense side. The host brought a cake and the kitchen did a good job cutting and serving the cake. Overall, the main entrée, the Prime rib was very good, tender and juicy. The salad and the sides were just ok. The HOPR was a step above with the overall food quality and the experience, silver bullet cart and spinning salad bowl service tableside. Service was inconsistent. Given that the prices were even a little more the HOPR, I know which place I prefer for a nice Prime rib dinner. read more

This is nothing compared to house of prime rib in the city, but I didn't expect it to be. The salad was really good and the bread was warm when they served it. Steaks were cut in a hefty portion but my NY strip was a bit undercooked with the request I had made for how I want my steak to be. The cream of spinach/corn (we got both) I think needs some working on. It's just this thick blob of some cream base with corn/spinach. Service was fast, we got seated almost immediately. The server had issues with understanding my drink order though. I ordered gin and tonic and he said that the machine was broken but I can clear see the other tables has their drink. Beautiful experience on our anniversary. The prime rib and the ny steak were absolutely delicious. Our server was super attentive with constant check ins. In all honesty I was a bit worried from some of the reviews on here but to be clear, yes this is not house of prime rib but at the same time it delivers what you expect from a good prime rib place. I see that a lot of people keep making that comparison but it would be a bit of an unfair one. I dined with a party of 4 on a Saturday at 5:30pm. Reservations were easy to make, parking was plentiful (metered street parking and lots), and when we arrived we were sat right away. The restaurant is for dinner service, opens at 5:00pm and closes at 10pm. It was an overcast rainy day and the temperature of the establishment was on the chilly side. Wish there was a description written in the menu between Peninsula Cut, Select Cut and Broadway Cut. I will save you flagging down your server to ask. Peninsula is the thinnest cut, Select is medium and Broadway is the thickest. You're welcome ((smiles)). On the mid to larger cuts if you are lucky, you might get a bone. I say might because the cow only has so many ribs, not everyone who wants one gets one. The entrees are served with two sides (as pictured I chose the select cut with mashed potatoes and 1/2 1/2 Creamed spinach and corn) other accompaniments include a basket of bread, a salad with the restaurant's house dressing, and popovers. Food was delicious and plentiful! I was able to make 2 servings out of it! If you are in a hurry this place may not be for you, service is quite drawn out allowing plenty of time to converse with your dinner company. Bathrooms are located at the back of the first floor. Oldie but goodie. The menu is pretty straightforward. Choose your entree: Prime rib, NY steak, fish or vegetarian. Any main comes with a fresh salad, English popover and 2 sides. The generous serving of fresh salad was dressed in housemade dressing that is kinda like russian or thousand island. At first bite I didn't like it but it grew on me and I actually ended up finishing it. I ordered the Select Cut Prime Rib which was 14oz (I think) with half and half creamed spinach and corn, and garlic mashed potatoes. The Prime Rib was very tender and juicy; it lacks flavor tbh until you grab the S&P shakers and season accordingly. I liked the roasted garlic in the mashed potatoes. The creamed spinach and corn were just fine. The English popover had a crusty top and ultra soft custardy inside that would've surely absorbed all the au jus on the plate if I wanted to. My only (minor) gripe is the reservation process. When I called, I was aiming for 6:30 but they said they have an opening for 7pm. We were in the area at 6:20 and killed some 30 minutes before checking in. We were surprised to see the place isn't even half full on a Saturday night. They didn't care about the reservation at all, they didn't ask and proceeded in walking us to our seats so I mentioned it to make sure they knew. It seems we could've just walked right in. The thing that makes it hard to review is the fact that if you've been to places like HOPR and San Mateo Prime, you've now added Broadway Prime to the mix and can easily compare & contrast these different locations. My hope for this place was somewhat high because if it was delicious then we wouldn't have to consider going into SF anymore and deal with the difficult parking. Parking wasn't tough. There's tons of parking along Broadway and the side streets and a couple of parking lots nearby. We were seated slightly after our reservation time, but nothing terrible. We got our menus, got our bread, and went on to look at the menu. I opted for their select cut (medium rare), creamed corn, and garlic mashed potatoes. I would say if you were coming here for a special occasion then maybe try for an earlier time than 7pm. We asked for more bread and was told they were out (but had popovers to substitute!) and no more baked potatoes. Being out of certain things can happen, I understand, and our server did her best to accommodate what she can. After the heart breaking news of them being out of baked potatoes, the server later came back and said they were able to find a few more for us (SCORE!). Overall, I felt the food was so-so. Neither the prime rib or the creamed corn held as much flavor as HOPR. Garlic mashed potatoes came with a legit garlic piece in the middle which I didn't expect so that was a surprise. Got there around 7:15 PM to check in. Went inside and found out that there were multiple parties that had the same reservation time. Claims that she was yelling at him. I step in and got into a yelling match with him and told him to walk away. Luckily he did, or I'm sure tempers would have flared and something may have happened. Hubby said he was "full" (if you've read my other reviews, this is code for "I don't like it"). I took the leftovers and discovers his had a ton of fat I had to cut out. Anyway, you should pull it out 30-60 minutes before dinner to bring it to room temp. I seasoned the daylights out of it, added a small dab of butter, and put it under the broiler for just a couple minutes. That really helped. Then served it with a baked potato. I haven't been here since the pandemic started and even then it was inconsistent with it's service and quality. What it has going for it was convenience with it's location. For a family occasion, we went there and noticed the price increased to $65 for the largest Broadway Cut. Then I also noticed they no longer have the Zepplin Meat Roaster on display up front like before. All the meat comes from the back kitchen. Then the salad forks were no longer brought out cold by your server, they simply placed 2 forks with your dish. Salad came and nobody offered to grind my pepper, it's self service on the table. Lots of service cuts, and I'm not really offended but it's noticeable. When the food came, it tasted fine, but ordering an English Cut turned out to be a bad idea. They did not slice it neatly, it was more like hacked to slivers. Think of it as if it was cut for stir fry. Tasted fine, but not what I expected. The side dishes were ok, it felt as though everything was under seasoned so we needed to add salt to everything, that to me wasn't too big of a deal cause I'd rather have it under seasoned than over. With your entree you receive their house salad which was a mixture of romaine lettuce, sliced beets, and crushed hard boiled egg. The flavor was mild and although I didn't love it I found myself mindless going back for more. Then there were the popovers, which appeared to be slightly burnt. It didn't have much flavor and honestly I just didn't care too much for it. When it came time to complete our meal, our waiter discouraged us to get dessert. He didn't make either option sound appealing and just said "yeah most people don't even get dessert." So with that simple statement he made his own decision for us that we were done (we went elsewhere for dessert). The odd exchange with the waiter was off putting, so I don't really know if I'd come back. Meh.... The restaurant is located in an older mostly wooden building that smells like an old wooden building. The salad looks like bag lettuce with a house dressing, no other selections available. Like none. They mentioned lemon and egg in the dressing but all I smelled was vinegar and lots of it. The sides on the plate - creamed corn, creamed spinach and potatoes were all room temperature at best. The meats were the only hot items. The prime rib had minimal flavor. The salmon was super tasty which is not expected at a place that specializes in prime rib. Very limited menu selection so for the few items they offered we expected them to be delicious. Loved that they gave us horse radish! However for the price we paid, it was not the most tender piece of prime rib that I've had. They did fill our water glasses and checked in on us but for that price I was expecting better everything. I miss the way they used to make the salad at your table versus just bringing you one that may have been sitting in the fridge for a bit. The bread was also eh. A sourdough would have been classier. The place was a little brighter than I remembered and the noise level was too bad but most likely I'll stick to making my own prime rib! read more

nice ambiance but can get a little noisy further into restaurant. Food Salad came out on wilted leaves and a little spotty in color looking a little brown. The Dressing was pink in color I presume to camouflage the old Lettuce. The Entree came out looking good but the Prime Rib was swimming in the Au Jus juices and so were the side dishes of creamed Spinach and Mashed Potatoes. Neither had its own taste for the Au Jus, and should've came in separate small dishes or the Au Jus. A friend suggested Broadway Prime after telling him I was looking for a restaurant to host a business dinner. Of course, I listened to my friend, and made a dinner reservation for my group. I should note that I called mid-week, a little past noon wanting a reservation for that evening. A real person answered the phone and was more than helpful. The restaurant itself excludes old San Francisco (but SF is about 30ish miles north) with its oak paneled walls, brass fixtures, frosted glass sconces, among booths and tables of various sizes...I could imagine "Sam Spade" sitting in a back corner having a little prime rib with a bottle of his favorite single malt. None of my guests had ever been to or heard of Broadway Prime and were equally impressed by the unique ambiance..."it's not like any restaurant I've been to in the area" was the consensus comment from my guests. Our server provided us with lots of good insight into the (relatively uncluttered) menu and was attentive without being pushy...having taken in all the ambiance, advice and pre-meal drinks we all ordered the "Broadway cut". Even seasoned meat/steak lovers should beware; this cut isn't for the faint of heart; it's bone-in and massive. The server said it's a 20oz cut, if I recall correctly; a piece "Fred Flintstone" himself would love! That said every bite was juicy, well seasoned and truly delicious. Everyone's PR was cooked as they wanted; not a single unhappy person among my guests. Having suggested Broadway Prime certainly made me look like I know what I'm doing (at least in terms of choosing a restaurant), the rest was all the restaurant's good attentive service and great food ! read more

We had a wonderful evening of 27 diners. Staff was very accommodating - refilling water and tending to our needs. With such a large party upstairs in a small Room with two small windows I wish perhaps we were seated in a different area? We were yelling over each other to have a conversation and it was really warm in that room. We had 22 in that room and another 5 in a booth outside. The booth had much better air flow. Now on to the food. The salad was excellent. Not overdressed with salad Dressing like how it could be. The server even offered another salad serving to those who wanted it. My hubby really enjoyed the warm bread which I did not partake in. I asked for my prime rib to be medium rare but when received looked more medium. The piece I got was not thick - about 1/2" and a little small to my liking. The cream spinach and cream corn was excellent. I wish there was more on my plate. We did not get any choices on the potatoes Which I would have gotten a loaded baked potato. We all got mashed potatoes with Gravy which was Fine. Next time I return I will ask to be served the bone attached To my prime rib! read more

You can tell the servers are trying, but the food is beyond mediocre. Literally everything has no flavor. The salad is bagged old brown lettuce with a salad dressing that has no flavor. Prime rib literally has no flavor and the au jus was plain also. The spinach tastes like it was frozen because it tastes like water, no salt, cream or Gruyère flavors. The pop overs were underbaked and still gooey. I have no idea how people like this place. It's cold inside and flavorless. Probably new management going the cheap route. read more

I started this journey by accident, Next thing I am calling the same day ( Wednesday) morning to make reservations for the same night for 7. The man who answered was accommodating . Drinks before the dinner was on point. Just enough, I still wanted to taste my food. A bottle of wine was ordered and orders where taken clockwise. Was very surprised on how fast the food came out, they have this down. Once you finish one item the next was coming out. So we'll done. Salad was delicious. The warm fresh French bread and butter . The popovers. The main coarse the prime rib. Garlic potatoes and cream corn and spinach all tasty. Did I mention that if you finished they asked if you wanted more!!! Yes please!!! It's official I cannot move. Too much , now boxes. In my opinion come here and have a much better time with friends and family. That absolutely delicious food. If you're craving prime rib and cant get a reservation at house of prime rib, you come here! their prime rib isn't as flavorful as house of prime but it does the job. I really love their salads here! I could always go for seconds and their garlic mash potatoes are delicious too. Not the biggest fan of their corn or spinach though ); something is lacking. I was impressed with the quality and temp of the prime rib - seasoned and cooked perfectly medium rare. Sides were excellent. Service was fantastic as we had a combination of attentive food servers including the manager. Ambiance - it's ok. I've been here before so I know what to expect. Feels like an old restaurant, but it took away any pretentiousness of a high priced steak house. read more
