After reading all the great reviews, we decided to try the broken oar and we're definitely not disappointed. We were seated promptly and taken care of by one of the best waitresses we have ever had anywhere.. Food was delivered quickly, and was of excellent quality. My wife had the fish and fries and it was done just to her liking. I had the brisket sandwich which was excellent. The local draft beer was also cold and tasty.. Unfortunately we were not even able to be seated as they kept seating groups ahead of us and we were told because we were just 2 people we would not be seated until a small table opened up. As a past restaurateur and chef I was appalled at the attitude I was given when I asked the manager why we were not being seated. I unfortunately wouldn't eat here if the food were free as they treated me with such disrespect that it would never be worth a try. With so many places to eat in Moab they need to do better. I'll start by saying, the service is awful! The food makes up for it, but the service is terrible. We came in on a Wednesday evening and were seated within 10 minutes. The restaurant was fairly busy but that didn't bother us. We ordered our drinks, which they only serve beer and wine and an appetizer. Our drinks came fairly quickly, but the appetizer which was only French fries took almost 30 minutes. The Oar fries were really good though so it made up for the wait. They bring you a house salad for the table which is actually really tasty and it wasn't drenched in dressing which was nice. I really liked the rolls with honey butter that accompanied them. For our mains we ordered the trout (which they realized they had run out of 20 minutes after we placed our order), so we changed for the fish and chips which was pretty good, the brisket sandwich which was delicious the brisket was so tasty, I wouldn't bother having the Gouda because it definitely just sits on top and is weird, and the chicken pesto pasta which isn't bad if you really like pesto. All in all, the food is pretty good.. oh yeah, you have to order the sweet potato fries. But the service is awful! Would definitely not return. read more

So I will preface this review with the fact that I think I visited Moab and this restaurant out of season. During previous visits to Moab in the summer, the town was very lively. However on this occasion I visited at the end of February and it was pretty vacant. I visited the Broken Oar on a Sunday night for dinner and was surprised that they, like most other restaurants in the town were closing at 8pm. The staff was accommodating and pleasant and worked with us to quickly get our food ordered and out before the kitchen closed. The atmosphere was nice and clean. Unfortunately however I was not impressed with my meal. I ordered the Oar burger and felt as those it was dry and not as filling as I expected. My friend ordered the Pig burger and enjoyed it. We all tried their Sweet Potato fries which had an interesting twist of caramel sauce - extremely good! All in all, not a bad spot but I was still a little hungry when I left. read more

This was my first time visiting the Broken Oar and I loved everything about it. Cute, cozy, cabin-like atmosphere, and awesome service and food. I traveled to Moab all the way from Florida and after hiking all day at the Arches National Park, we were starving! The wait time was 5-10 minutes the most and the hostess was very sweet. Food was delicious and FAST!! I ordered the cod fish tacos and a side salad. But the most important thing about my experience was my server Shay! 10/10!! My wife and I dropped in for a casual dinner shortly after they opened. Already there were many customers present. I had the special- chicken marsala and my wife enjoyed the grilled chicken thighs. Our waitress, Bina, was wonderful. My selection was average and I thought the sauce was a little too creamy and not a real Marsala sauce. The thighs were very tasty. Wine selection was limited. I've never had to resort to writing a review on Yelp PLUS I had to edit this review THREE times because it kept getting worse and worse. Our family is a big fan of hamburgers, steaks, and ribs - but we ordered all three items and they tasted AWFUL. There were a total of maybe 5 bites across the entire family and we were ready to leave. The ribs were charred. Hamburgers were hockey pucks. They had no pasta this night. And lastly, I ordered a steak with no flavor. $36 for a steak I didn't even eat more than one bite of. The staff is equally as bad. They were extremely snappy and short. They were arguing amongst each other and unprofessional. I do have to mention John/Jon was amazing, and helped us keep our cool. After bringing it up to the manager, the guy had the nerve to take only 10% off the bill. Entire meals went untouched even after asking for some to be remade prior to the bill. Twice they flopped and flopped hard. I promise you that our $200 order would have a big tip attached, but after this experience I wouldn't bring anybody you know close to this place. We came in hot and hungry from hours in Arches on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. We had a longish wait, but it was worth it. My grandson loved his surf and turf and the justly famous sweet potato fries he subbed instead of the mashed potatoes. I also asked for changes -- no spicy hot mayo on my Cali burger, thanks. Bina, our waitress, didn't blink. She just said changes would be no problem and carried on being her friendly self. We loved chatting with her about the Moab area as well; she gave us some really good travel information. Our meals and salads were beautifully presented. My 14 oz. New York Strip was the best I've ever had...spiced and cooked to perfection! The garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus spears were yummy! My wife's dinner of Trout was equally outstanding. The staff that greeted us were very nice, but when my meal came different than I ordered it the waitress actually corrected me..."Well that's how you ordered it!" We had a party of 16 for a rehearsal dinner tonight for a wedding tomorrow. We are from another state. We called 4 times to reserve and make sure they are set up for our party of 16.
