Went to this place for dinner our last night of our week in Oahu. Excellent service - every single worker was super friendly and always made sure we had what we needed. This one hits the basics of a small family bistro: clean, decent menu, pretty good foods. Pho broth is on point, but the Pho noodles got a bit stale; recommend buying a different brand. Prices are higher than expected though! read more

Second time in one week! I first saw a post on IG showing the special of the weekend. The picture was amazing enough that I already could imagine what it tasted like. Coming from Mililani was not an issue because I now had to have the "special of the weekend" banh canh tom cua! Off we went to Waialae. Parked in paid parking across the street. Staff are super friendly. Wasting no time I flashed the IG post to our server. OMG! My order was super amazing. Just as I had imagined. A week later I brought my friends with me. I raved about the dish I had but unfortunately they were not serving it that weekend. I hope they add it to their menu as a daily dish. Hint Hint! I would give this place 5 stars but the restroom is placed in conveniently. You'll need to go through the kitchen and storage area to get to the restroom. I kinda felt like I was intruding their space. Other than that this place is a winner! read more

Four of us dined at Broken Rice a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is very clean and nicely laid out, albeit a bit too plain as there is nothing on the walls to counter the starkness. A few photographs of the many beautiful places in Vietnam would truly add to the ambience! The owners and servers are eager to explain the menu, and the service is excellent. Our friends ordered vegetarian pho by phone 48 hours in advance, which is a nice added service, and they found it to be delicious. We ordered the grilled shrimp and the shaking beef broken rice; both were very good, and the cubes of beef were clearly cut from a prime piece of ribeye. It is a tad expensive (peruse the menu on their website to be better informed before you dine there), but the value is definitely there. We will return soon! read more

Went to Broken Rice tonight with the family and we all enjoyed every dish! We had the Special Broken Rice, Spring Roll with Vermicelli, Chicken with Vermicelli, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, Crab Fried Rice and the Shaking Beef, all very good but I thought the beef was especially tasty! Restaurant decor is minimalist modern and clean! Great service and food came out quickly! So excited we forgot to take pics! read more

Been here twice already! excellent service and food is hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant on the island. First visit we have the crab fried broken rice, summer rolls, and beef pho. Best beef pho with rich and tasty broth and the meat was sooo tender and melt in yo mouth! Typical pho places give you choices on what you want inside your pho so i usually just get the regular rare steak. But Broken Rice's beef pho is set and they've already built the best combination of the meats with the addictive soup. Any other pho place i would drench in hoisin, sriracha, and the garlic chili oil but for this GEM, no sauce is even needed, trust me. The crab fried broken rice was soo tasty...it's something about the broken rice that absorbs the subtle flavors unlike typical rice. The summer rolls were simple and refreshing. My 3 year old even loved the food and she is a super picky eater. 2nd visit, we of course needed to get the beef pho again, spring rolls, and the special broken rice. Food and service again was on point. The pork chops and chicken were so tasty and tender...not dry like other places ive had. My 3 year old again gobbled everything up! Overall, my family loves this place and will probably make it our weekly spot to hit up. The service was courteous and prompt, food is money, and location is great in the up and coming kaimuki district. Cant wait til we go back for the next meal! read more

This is our new go-to Vietnamese spot. Great "clean" Vietnamese food that doesn't make you feel like drinking a gallon of water afterwards. They don't have a huge selection but it looks like everything they do is top quality. My wife had a crab soup that was delicious and I have their special broken rice which was great. The restarunant isnt that bad but i'm giving it a three because they use the fat noodle that you use for spring rolls in them inside of the skimmy one. Less meat and a small portion of vegetables to put in my dish its more like a pinch of vegies they gave me. But i think the broth of it is very good but i dont think i'll ever come there again to eat read more

What a delicious broth! I know that there are about half a dozen pho places in Kaimuki and I was skeptical about this new place but I couldn't have been more wrong. My girlfriend got the oxtail pho and it was tender and delicious, the broth was flavorful and sweet I got the lemongrass pho and was blown away by the delicious taste. I cannot believe that I didn't know that this place was here before now! Absolutely amazing. If you love pho, I highly recommend this place. this is a great family restaurant! pho broth was so tasty - not too salty, just the right flavor ... and I am quite picky about the broth. the meat (and there was a lot) was so tender. this is my new favorite! the spicy beef soup was also very tasty - again not too salty, not too hot. the spring rolls and summer rolls (yup - we tried all the varieties)... so light and crispy, fresh and great sauces. it was so good, we had to order more ;). the special broken rice and crab broken fried rice... yummmm. and the dessert .. home made gelato with espresso coffee and banana tapioca. heavenly yes - we ate all of the above! cannot wait to go back! read more

Absolutely love this place. My rave review of this gem cannot do justice to describing how really, really terrific the food is. I'm vegetarian, and H is a meat eater. Everything I've had has tremendous flavor. The veggies in the bun are so perfectly seasoned. The veggie pho is out of this world. The owner was so kind to show me a video of his wife preparing the veggie stock, authentic stock. Lots of love and labor goes into their veggie stock. H says the beef pho is the best he's ever had. The shaking beef gets a standing ovation. There is something so special about the rice. The veggie appetizers get a two thumbs up, way way up! The atmosphere is serene. The walls are decorated with tasteful, colorful, peaceful art. Oh, and the place is so clean and comfortable. I love the dish ware, very artistic. I look forward to going again and again and again. Goooood food! We ordered the chicken noodle soup (pho) for my 6 year old, he LOVED it. We all tried some too and it was delicious. We ordered the Shaking beef, pork chops (the special), and the king crab fried rice to share between three of us. The crab fried rice was our favorite, but all the dishes were really good. The restaurant was clean and I loved the ice cold stainless steel cups the water was served in. My Diet Pepsi was served in a mason jar which I liked because it was plenty without needing a refill. Had lunch on Sunday. The restaurant is very clean and simple. The food was ok. The Vietnamese iced coffee was super tiny with LOTS of ice. I didn't get any vegetables/sides with the pho. New place and is undergoing a soft opening. They have a nice tapioca and taro dessert they are giving out for free for the soft opening. Of course I had to try out the pho since it's Vietnamese. It was pretty good, the broth has a good flavour with good flavor, the meat used was fresh and not overcooked, size is just right for most people I believe. Overall a pretty good pho. I do want to comment that's it's a little more pricy pho than what I usually see. Presentation is nice but it seems the same as others. I'm a big eater, so I want my food for my money, so it doesn't help when the extras like lemon and beansprouts aren't that much. Still need to try the other menu options later on but I would say, it's a nice place to bring a date to for Vietnamese right now, it's a pretty cozy, and quiet place. The place is clean, simple, without too much gaudiness and doesn't give a sense of being over cluttered. It's good for small groups (up to 4) but more than that and they would have to start moving tables and chairs around. The owners/workers are all nice and hard working. I entered in and he was self fixing the baby seat and cleaning it real good for the couple with a baby that was here before me. Location is not bad either. I can't give this place ANY stars, but since I have to to post this I gave it the minimum one star. Where do I start?? Very bare interior, no pictures, no sauces on the table, not even the basic sriracha! The one guy working said little, definitely no pleasantries, just gave us steel-like cups of water. We ordered the lemongrass (beef?bologna?luncheon meat?) pho(only one size-small!). The flavor wasn't bad, but quite small and being that I was sharing it with my boyfriend, not enough! THEN here comes the spring rolls(imperial, I guess)! Four small rolls, possibly store bought, probably double fried. Too much batter, chewy texture, weird. I asked for sriracha and was given about a tablespoon of it. Oh yeah, the lettuce for the rolls was wilted and had different odd sizes, kinda hard to wrap. My boyfriend and I saw others' reviews and to be quite honest, was this the same place that we went to? Too bad it was on a Wednesday night and Vietnam Hale was closed because we were really wanting pho and what we got was ripped off! Don't eat here folks!! read more
