TL;DR Go in the morning before 8 a.m. and avoid crowds. Mimosas are delicious and staff are amazing and courteous. I've been here a few times and it never is what it's hyped up to be. The first time I came here I waited two hours for my food and there were only two in my group. (we were comped for it, wonderful service!) The food always takes forever to come out and it's always room temperature when I do get it. I know people who got sick here. My friend thinks that the kitchen is just too small. The service is always friendly and courteous, however I never leave totally satisfied. I have a theory that it's just this location that has this problem, I have only been to this one location. If you go for their breakfast specials from 6 am to 8 am, they have popular bfast combos for only $4.99 and since there's less of a crowd the food is piping hot and delicious. I had called the day ahead to make a reservation for Saturday morning, and the lady laughed at me and said there was no need (and she wouldn't accept my request). Weird, she could've been more tactful, but okay. But the next morning our waitress had a very similar attitude - it was like she thought she was too good to be our server. I can look past bad service is the food is good. But the food was mediocre. I was excited that they have gluten-free waffles, but unfortunately they have dairy (which I can't have), so that was a bummer. I do appreciate that their menu indicates gluten-free options. Haven't been here in over seven months and had the best experience. Our server Carlie was top notch amazing. Not only is she the cutest thing ever and has the sweetest outgoing personality but she really took the time to hear and listen to our order. My friend and I went at approx noon (maybe it was 1pm) yesterday (on a Tuesday), and we were seated right away. We ordered our food and had it 10 minutes later, at the most (which was very impressive). My friend got a burger w/ avocado, bacon and something else on it (I can't remember) and onion rings, and she really liked her food. I got a Belgian waffle w/ sausage links, and they were so-so. The waffle smelled really good, but was REALLY soft (think a pancake consistency, just shaped like a waffle) and the sausage links were soft, too (I'd never experienced that before). For the price (my bill came to something like $9-$10), I'd expect better quality food, especially since I only ordered an entree and side. The portions are a good size, but the food just wasn't up to par. I might go again and try ordering something else, because all of the food on their menu looks and sounds amazing. Finally had a morning off so my boy friend and i decided to go grab some break fast - our first pick had a line around the block so we decided to go else where and boy friend picked Broken Yolk, Oceanside. We live about 5 min from the La Costa location and to be honest I felt the place was over rated. Once we got there I looked at the reviews and was prepared for slow service, but I was blown out of the water! The hostess had major bitch face, but the bus boy that brought water and drinks was very friendly and fast as was the server. I got the 2 eggs with corned beef hash, hash browns and toast. Everything was exactly like i ordered it. Boy friend got an omelet that he said had a ton of bacon in it. Since I had seen the bad reviews I was sure to keep an eye on the clock - our food arrived within 10 min and again was all made correctly. I used to think that the Broken Yolk ratted but I will definitely return to the Oceanside location and may give the La Costa one another chance thanks to my recent visit. So if you haven't been within the last week or so I say give it another chance - plus they have a larger drink menu ^_- read more

2nd time here. I walked out the first time at breakfast due to no service. This time it was because for lunch my wife's BLT had a bug in the lettuce. We stood up and walked out. Will never be back, ever... UPDATE: Owner reached out and offered gift card. I upgraded score to 2 stars for effort. I still will never ever go back there again and cannot recommend it. Did I mention the food was below par too? My wife's BLT sandwich was thin and un-inspired besides having the bug in it. My hamburger was bland and I had to ask for onions. My rating is due to an incident here - ordered food and had it delivered to table by a runner who failed to say anything about the heat of the plate (beans that had been microwaved) I picked it up burned my fingers badly and he was said "yeah there hot sometimes " ouch! Spent my meal holding a cold drink in my hand and my fingers became more sore. The manager came over with an apology and said "most of us have lost feeling in our fingers and don't realize that we're setting down a plate that is MAGMA (yes that's the word she used) hot". Then sprayed my fingers with burn spray - no food comp, nothing at all. Very disappointed!! Molly our server was very nice and apologized often and checked on me as well throughout - she's a keeper. Great service but the food was definitely NOT worth the price. The price of drinks is outrageous. I pay the same price for a latte that doesn't taste like the burnt end of a pot that's been sitting. My daughter ordered a build your own omelette with ham & cheese. She got quite a few jalapeños in there so she lost her appetite on that. Didn't help that the entire underside was a runny mess of egg. She ordered hash browns but got some flaky potatoes that were so burnt they weren't even worth a second bite. I ordered the stuffed French toast and was annoyed that I couldn't make it into a combo, so I paid an exorbitant amount to add them as sides. Bacon was so crispy it had no flavor left and the measly amount of hash browns overly cooked left much to be desired. I'm just throwing this out there to get an idea of whether what happened was normal or not: One of our orders was a dish (sorry I forget the exact name) that had two poached eggs. My wife asked that the whites not be runny, and the server assured us they would not be. Unfortunately one of them did have quite a bit of liquid white, and when the server later came to inquire if everything was OK, we mentioned that to her, and her first response was "Do we want to talk to the manager?" Are there some places where the servers have no discretion in fixing an order, or is it possible that at this place this is what they are instructed to suggest to the guest for any problem? Went here for the first time visiting a BYC, and I have to say we were terribly disappointed. For a place that specializes in breakfast I expected decent tasting food. The wait was average for a holiday. We waited about 15-20 minutes for a table for 2 at around 10:30 a.m. The server was fairly friendly, the food didn't take longer than most other sit down restaurants, but the food was awful. I ordered the french toast with a side of bacon. My husband ordered the steak & eggs. I got a healthy portion of french toast, but it was tasteless. It was like eating bread that had been grilled for a few minutes. I couldn't even tell there was any batter on it. The bacon was okay, slightly overcooked. I ate about 1/5 of the toast, and had to apply syrup liberally for any flavor. The steak & eggs was even worse. He ordered his eggs over medium and the steak medium. The eggs came over hard and the steak came rare. And I do mean RARE. The hash browns were more like fried mashed potatoes. He did say the toast was fine. Also, even with the steak being cooked rare, the only thing he said he tasted was the char marks on one side. Seemed like the cook threw it on the grill and left it on one side to burn and put it on the plate. Service was a bit lacking as well. I had coffee, which the bus boy brought. My husband asked for a large glass of water, since that was all he wanted to drink. He never did get the water. No one ever came to ask if I wanted a refill on my coffee. When the server brought out our food I had sausage on my plate instead of the bacon I had ordered. We ended up spending over $30 and felt like we needed lunch when we left. For that amount of money at breakfast I would expect at least good food and service, if not outstanding. I will definitely not be going back to this place. My husband actually said he wished we had just gone to Jack in the Box and gotten a breakfast sandwich, since it would at least had some flavor and only cost a few bucks. read more

I wanted to like this place. I love breakfast. We got two adult meals and a kids meal. Service was good, food came out fast, coffee left a bit to be desired. But our meals were disappointing. The chorizo omelet had about 2-3 tablespoons of chorizo, what was there was very tasty, but it was in less than half of the omelet. Also the hash browns were very undercooked and borderline raw. Border Benedict, again what I was given was great, but only one Benedict had meat on it and the corn cakes were a little over cooked. I entered this place with high hopes considering the fact that I am over the Denny's and IHOP environment and food. I ordered the chicken Fried steak and eggs with hash browns and a blueberry muffin. the wife had a quiche with the fresh fruit side dish. Food finally arrived with fruit that was far from fresh a couple of grapes were starting to look like raisins the pineapple slices were turning brown and the oranges were old also both blueberry muffins were dry and falling apart the gravy on my steak was cold and jello like. I could go on about the food but I'm sure you get the point. I did not complain but bottom line Is I will not be returning. Had a chalky texture and was lukewarm when I got it. Don't get this. -Hash browns 4/5 Tasted good. I would get these again. Brother ordered: -Chocolate chip pancakes 3/5 He said it was "okay" and that he sort of regrets getting it. Order if you want some decent pancakes but he said they were nothing special. Overall the food is okay, but you're probably better off going to Denny's in the Target shopping center or Mimi's Cafe nearby. Very disappointing. My wife & I came in for Thursday lunch @ 12:30 PM. The place was not busy but it took a long time for the waiter to come by to help us and he was no where to be seen during our meal. The water glasses were not refilled until the check was ready. I had a chicken ceasar wrap (good) with onion rings (excellent, best part of lunch) while my wife had a patty melt (good) with sweet potato fries (soggy). When we finally got the waiter's attention he ran off to get a replacement for the fries without waiting to hear if that she what we wanted. I had to raise my voice to catch his attention as he was waking away to get the replacement changed to potato salad (OK). The food was acceptable, but the service would keep me away. Monster servings and a decent price. I came here twice with my girlfriend, once for breakfast and once for lunch, and the food is definitely filling. The menu has a great variety, and both times the food and service was great. I only gave it 4/5 stars because the first time we had a waitress who seemed like she had better things to do, and although that may be true, her attitude rubbed us the wrong way. (she was more like "what do you want?" instead of "what would you like to order?", ya know?) Came here earlier today with the family. This was our second visit. The hostess and wait staff were friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They seemed to have roving bus staff watching for empty glasses/coffee cups and empty plates. This was nice since you weren't necessarily dependent upon a waiter in order to ensure the little things were taken care of. The bus staff did seem a bit zealous in the performance of their tasks, and it was nearly a hovering presence. The food was great. The portions were large and it arrived quickly and hot. My 11 year old son looked at me crazy when we got him a kids menu, but when his plate arrived he understood. He didn't quite finish it. Overall I'm a fan. Great place and kid friendly! I requested the juice of my child to be mix with water and it was done on point and he didn't charge us. I asked for egg benedicts with fruit and they were delicious! The pancakes are perfect, not too thick buttery and just perfect! Husband ate corned beef which was also delicious, I tried it, and I usually don't like that stuff. My boyfriend and I have been coming in here for breakfast a lot since quarantine was lifted and the food is always great (with the occasional exception of burnt bread or scrambled eggs that may have sat too long before coming out to us). I always get either the feta avocado toast which is amazing every time, or one of the pancakes/french toast which are never disappointing. The servers and ladies at the front have always been really sweet and swift when showing us to a table. The waiter with the top hat is exceptionally kind, and our waitress today (Alison I believe) was super attentive and sweet. I wish I could remember more names and faces because we really have gotten a fair share of the staff and they all have done great at making sure to check on us, refill our coffees, get our orders in, and make us feel important. read more

We order takeout from Broken Yolk quite often. Lately they have been getting the order wrong. They either give us the completely wrong order or they leave out parts of the order. When we try to take the time to check the order before we take it, they get impatient with us. I understand there are problems with Staffing xcetera these days. But it is not that difficult to check and make sure the order is correct while you are bagging it. When you order online they want you to tip, but I am tired of tipping them to do it wrong. read more
