Bronco's Deli, located in Bishop, California takes it's name from the football team of Bishop Union High School, who are the Bishop Broncos. The restaurant is located just a couple of blocks away from the school, and offers after-school specials to students who are walking on their way home from school. Note: Nearly everything is "walkable" in Bishop, as it's not only a small city in terms of population, but it also sports a small footprint. My carne asada torta was delicious, very filling, reasonable priced, and the dipping sauce was out-of-this-world, and really made the torta outstanding. A hidden gem! During this time it can be very difficult to find a good, clean, and decent in pricing place but we found it unexpectedly!! I'm not a huge fan of a breakfast burrito but I wanted to give it a try at this place because it was so welcoming and reminded me of Cabo. I order the veggie breakfast burrito with potatoes and cheese. Let me tell you my husband and I LOVED IT. It was packed with goodness, tasty, and not dry at all. Made on the spot!! Oh and you have to try their special salsa! I think that's what their known for!!! If you're looking for breakfast right before you hit the mountains to hike or travel up the sierras, stop by Broncos for their veggies breakfast burrito and salsa on the side. A shout out to Robert, we walked in just a few minutes before closing " no problem " he said and whipped up our order we proceeded to pay with a debit card not knowing they were "cash only " once again " no problem " come back and pay me on Monday. Came into Bishop yesterday looking for a new place to try for lunch. Read great reviews about Bronco's Deli and I can see why. They have a good location on Academy Ave., just off from N. Main St./Hwy 395 in downtown Bishop. You'll find plenty of parking. Note there are two buildings that adjoin one another. You order in one, there's indoor seating in the other with an adjoining hallway. When the weather is nice I believe they offer some outdoor seating and tables. Ordered the Pastrami sandwich along with a small side of potato salad. Split the sandwich with my dad -- I read other reviews stating they offer large portions. The bread is very fresh tasting, plus they lightly toast it. The pastrami was perfect, excellent taste and cut well too. Pastrami is one of those meats that if not done correctly you'll notice it immediately. No such issue here, she did a wonderful job! An overall superb and pleasing taste with mustard, red onions, pickles and melted swiss cheese... yum! The half sandwich is plenty, even for a guy like me at 6'-4" and 230 lbs. The potato salad was also nice. Most places slather it with too much mayonnaise, but not here. While a little "drier" than some, I found Bronco's potato salad to be just right. Their service is absolutely first rate! Even from the appearance of your meal, you can tell they take pride and great care in the preparation. And everything is fresh! I picked up right away they genuinely want you to enjoy your meal... and that I most definitely did! The dining area is nicely appointed, sort of modern but very clean. They also offer free Wi-Fi! To be honest, I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Bronco's Deli and try more items on the menu. Prices are ~very~ reasonable and their portions are perfect. Will need to come into town and have breakfast sometime. You'll enjoy Bronco's for a delicious breakfast or lunch. Sure looks like I'll become a regular whenever I come into town. Excellent fresh food. I ordered the chicken salad with cranberries and raspberry dressing. It was not overly sweet with plenty of fresh chicken. More than enough for the hungry! My husband ordered the California burrito. He loved it. It had a bit of a kick, but wasn't too hot. read more

Great variety of food choices, super friendly service, quick, and affordable! What else could you ask for? We stopped in while driving through town on Memorial Day. I had the carnitas tacos, my husband had a breakfast burrito, my daughter a turkey sandwich, and my other daughter a burger. Everyone was very happy with their food. Would 100% recommend their carnitas and I can only imagine the other items on the menu at equally as good. This is a new sandwich place in town, and it's wonderful! It's located just down the block on Academy from the movie theater, or from Bishop High (perfect for high school lunch kids). I had the pastrami on sourdough, and it was very tasty. Fresh lettuce, tangy mustard, fresh sourdough roll. I had a Mexican coke, and the young lady serving promptly asked if we wanted a cup of ice for our drinks, and brought them out. My wife ordered the tuna sandwich, and she said she quite enjoyed hers as well. She had a can of Pepsi, and got a fresh cup of ice, as well. The portions are also quite generous. On recommendation of my wife, who has been here before, I ordered a half-sandwich. It was plenty, and was easily a full meal. If you order a whole sandwich, you WILL be full. The staff looked to be the cook's daughters, but they were friendly, courteous, and efficient. You order on the north end of the restaurant, and there's a small hallway which connects the pleasant, quaint indoor dining area. It really reminded me of a throw-back type of diner or soda shop. The atmosphere is simple, and cute. Here in Bishop, you've got to have solid quality to stay open, and although it was my first time here, it definitely won't be our last. The morning operation was a one-man-show where the cook was a master of the flattop grill. I almost thought he was going to breakout some teppanyaki moves like at Benihana. His service was fast and friendly. His cooking was careful and detailed. We came for breakfast and I considered ordering a bagel sandwich but gladly found that he makes the entire menu all day. Instead I had the carnitas torta with melted grated cheese and spiked with a grand dose of red onions. Not a traditional torta, but a simply luscious combination of the right ingredients. It was the best thing I ate on this trip which covered eating at six different restaurants in the Eastern Sierras and I'll be back on future trips to try more. We also ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo. Mostly potato with a watchful use of chorizo, the ingredients were fully mixed which created consistently distributed flavors. All soft and hearty ingredients, something bright or crunchy would help vary the experience. The expertly folded toasted tortilla avoided the typical hard knot at the ends. Next time, we'll try the carnitas burrito. Order in the back room where the kitchen also resides and eat in the front room. read more

Big tasty sandwiches, not amazing, not gourmet, but just big and hearty. I had a turkey sandwich on freshly baked sourdough. Fast, friendly service. They also have breakfast burritos, which I didn't have, but looked good. The person asked if I were visiting the area, and when I said yes, she said, "Welcome to paradise." I like that. Bishop is an incredible town with an amazing back yard, and we love it here. It's situated across from a hostel, which looks to have tons of backpackers from the Pacific Crest Trail or elsewhere, so they probably would welcome the opportunity to stuff their face here. read more

We just tried this place yesterday. It definitely fills a niche since Raymond's has been gone. It provides good sandwiches and excellent salads in a downtown location that is easily within walking distance of downtown businesses and the high school. We had the bronco sandwich and the house salad. The sandwich ended up feeding three of us, (we took leftovers to our daughter who was getting off work) as it was a large sandwich. We need more places like this in Bishop. Great place to grab something to eat. I had a blt bagel with a cup of clam chowder. Sandwich was fresh (next time I will ask for less mayo but that's my personal preference) and the chowder was good for a $2.50 cup of chowder in Bishop. The service was friendly and quick.
